Following your tutorial and using the 213 version of the BIOS, I was able to succesfully oc my GPU on the first attempt. Trust me though, flash drives were at the ready. Running stable 10 minutes in. Lets get down to some stress test.

mem @ 1053 might not be stable. iirc, lighting-intense scenes (tf2 general shadows, sometimes looking at the sky in cs:s on dust2, looking past the standup lamp towards the right hall from the broadcast room in broadcast in cod4) will have artifacting.

I have not experienced any as of yet, but I'll keep it in mind. With that said, what would you recommend I go down too? Flat 1000MHz?

Should I remove the sticker from the grill on the bottom of the fan?

    http://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/cfgw2/

Edit: Current clocks hitting 96°C. Should I remove the grill cover?

Edit: Gone back to stock for now.

i would clean out the fan. even with a room temp of 25+, 720/1800/1038 didn't go over 94 for me (92 is when the highest fan speed kicks in). also, the reported temp can be +8 or +7C over the real value (you could check in nibitor, compensation value).
don't remove the cover, since it forces air to go over the hdd's and ram.

Ok, I'll check the fan and make sure its clear. I'll also use your 720 / 1800 / 1038 timings and see what happens.

Additionally, you were correct. The compensation value is 8°C.

And now that I know that, I definitely won't touch that grill cover.

Alright, it's been awhile since I have been here. I was surprised to come back and find a bios mod solution to overclock the 9700m GT.

So, since there is that bios mod, would any of you (thalanix perhaps) know if there is a way to change the bios to allow changing the multiplier on multiplier unlocked cpu's.

I spent a lot of time researching this when I first got the X9100, but gave up after not finding the appropriate resources to make it happen and lacking the hex knowledge (or general coding knowledge for that matter) to even begin to attempt digging into the bios and figuring it out myself.

If I could adjust at the multiplier instead of the FSB I think I could get up to ~3.7-4ghz. Right now I can control the temps well enough to keep it stable up to 3.59, but after that I run into issues with the PCI bus being clocked to high.

I don't know if that is even something that could be done regardless of whether anyone would have the interest (though it could pay perhaps) in doing it.

Anyway, if one of you who has knowledge of BIOS could let me know if it is possible I would appreciate it.

those are locked by intel, nothing in the bios will change it. iirc, its only possible with a pin mod, which would take a lot of time to analyze what each pin is for.

There is really no way to unlock or change the multiplier unless you are using an ES unit. (Engineering Sample)

I have the X9100. It is one of the Core 2 Extreme series, i.e. it is unlocked. But I still can't do anything with the multiplier because the BIOS doesn't offer that option.

Well, I suppose that answers the old question of Core 2 Extreme's and the G50V. Someone manages a Mobile Quad and we're all set.

similar cpu's often use the same microcodes (eg. Q9100 and 9300), so multipliers are most likely not written into them.

Okay. That is basically what I've heard elsewhere, if it isn't there then it can't be added without extensive knowledge of the the motherboard development programming and the actual developer tools.

    Well, thanks anyway.

    Hi thalanix,
Would it be possible to create a 665/1650/855.213 and 680/1690/885.213 and 695/1700/900.213 modded bios for me ?
i tried it by my own...but i dont works...it says there is no rom file :(.
or maybe some could explain me more detailed how to use mmtool...i would be very thankfull.
where i had to load the G50Vas.213 file?

    is the biosflash/biosedit working under win7...because i use win7 ?

    sry for my bad english

EDIT: i got the G50V bios loaded to mmtool...and extracted the file that u wanted...but when i try to open it in NiBitor 5.1 (also tried 4.8) it says "no clockrates found"...what should i do?

    PLEASE HELP ME :(

regardless of my completely different make in laptop, i have an Acer 8930g with a 9700m GT DDR3, and the max it clocks to core wise is 575/800 core/mem i believe, whcih is really crap considering what i've read people hitting 740 core, i would be happy with 650-680, i just wondered if anyone has tried this on an Acer 8930g,

P.S this thread is the reason why i signed up, respect to Thalanix

are you sure you extracted the right one? it should have a device ID of 064A.

    what i would do:

    i) start->run->nvcplui and check the Video BIOS version. us G50 owners have 62.94.3C.00.15, which is clock locked.
ii) try a software overclock anyway (using nvidia's System Tools [6.03?], google).
iii) find an editor for the bios brand that's on the acer (mmtool is AMI only).

the rest will vary, but in general you'd be trying to either extract the vbios from the system bios, or use something like nvflash if the vbios is on the board itself.
then edit it with nibitor (hopefully), if not, a hex editor like winhex to find/change the clocks manually. if you extracted from the system bios, use the same tool to replace the existing, if you dumped with nvflash, flash with nvflash.

    @thalanix

well, i've modded my bios with success :). i switched the option "extract Module" thats why nibitor was not able the read the file  .

BIG THX for your modding guide

but i've got one last question...can i flash the modded bios with the "start flash" option over the bios? or should i better use EZflash?

am i right...EZflash is a flashing tool for nintendo gba and ds? http://www.ezflash.cn/software.htm

EZflash in the gba/ds scene is a flashcart to play ROMs (that you obviously own ;)). not related to the EZflash tool in the bios.

i personally save the bios to c:\ and use ezflash since its easier.

Not sure why it wouldn't work in Vista 64-bit. Worked fine for me when I ran Vista. The overclock is done on the BIOS level, separate from the Operating System.

Hy. I've an Asus G50V-A1 and recently i start to have some overtheating problems with my 9700m gt. i get 100+ temperature in games and starts to lag for about 30s and then comes back to normal for a couple of minutes and then lags again. If i'm not playing i have 66 but it goes really fast to 90+if i start to play.

Clean the case of dust, search for the dissasembly guide. Or lower the overclock

are you sure you're selecting the .rom file? it should be 1MB in size. also make sure your disks have no errors (chkdsk) and that they are properly unmounted (cleanly shutting down windows)

Sorry i just realised my noobish error, i only install Win7 2days ago and was using the built-in decompressor to open my zip driver files..
however it didnt detect your modded bios as a compressed file so i just thought it was the complete file..

Downloaded winzip and it detect the file as compressed..
Extracted the file and all modded bios were there.
Will be home tonight so i'll give it a go then..
i'll report back with my O'C and my temps soon..

Sorry for wasting your time Thalanix..
    thanks for your help..

Has anyone overclocked as well as changed the CPU to something faster? I am wondering how much the cooling can handle.
I have the P8600 and it never goes above 60 degrees on the cores while gaming but then the GPU is around 85-88 degrees (overclocked with bios) so it might rise if I put a faster CPU in right?

    Hi guys.
Sorry to bring up this thread, but i finally managed to OC my card via Nvidia software, at least the options are unlocked... Something similar to the post Braineater86

Here is a video of how its done and the steps explained below (don't know if i'm allowed to post a youtube link here, if not, sorry and i ask for a moderator to modify my post to erase the link):
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=coC_L3LNHrM

Things you need (links on the video description)
    * Dox Drivers version 185.85 (these are for Win7 x86 and x64, don't know how about XP or Vista. It has one feature that when on idle it downclocks the card and you get lower temps)
    * Driver Sweeper Utility (any version)
    * Nvidia System Tools 6.06 (tried with 6.05 and gave me some problems)
    * PhysX (any version)

    Steps to do:
    1 Install Driver Sweeper
    2 Reboot to Safe Mode
3 Uninstall all Nvidia software and related folders (if you used Ntune, you need to go to the registry and erase all the entries related to it, its easier to use search on it)
    4 Uninstall Display drivers
5 Run Driver Sweeper, marking Nvidia display only
6 Reboot when prompt by Driver Sweeper, enter in Safe Mode again
7 Install DOX Drivers, do not reboot
8 Install PhysX (the version of your choice)
8 Install NTools, all the three, System Performance (this one unlocks the graphic card OC, so is the one we are looking for), System Monitor and System Update
9 Reboot to the standard mode
10 In Start menu, All Programs, NVIDIA Corporation, you'll get NVIDIA Control Panel with a few shortcuts, any of them opens the extended NVIDIA options (you must accept the terms in the first time using performance options).
11 Set your card for your desired OC

Now i can already OC my CPU on the Direct Console from 2.66 to 3.00 (on extreme turbo), if someone could find any way to put it further without changing the graphics or memory would be great, since with setfsb i managed to put it on 3.2 but it OCed my memory and graphics too and i ended with stuttering on GTA4, even in low quality.

Hope this post is useful to you people and sorry for my English (i'm Portuguese).

    PS: I have a G50V with a T9550 2.66 processor, an Intel PM45 chipset and the 9700m GT

Just an update to my previous post.
In fact it unlocks the Clocks of the GPU, but i only can increase the shader clock, the memory and core clocks give me an error when trying to increase them: "The changes made were invalid and will not be applied".
So I'm still stuck on the 625/800/1550. The shader i menaged to increase it to 1845 with only 2ºC more, now at 92ºC max. Back to vBios mod for now...

You need to increase with correct numbers. I run my games at 750gpu/850mem/1650shader max temp. at 85C, GPU bios flashed/undervoltaged with NiBiTor at Extra 0,91V and CPU undervoltaged with Trottlestop.
Perfect for gaming and very stable, play tested 12 hours continous, no problems or crashing. Perfect happy with it!

Does anyone know the relation between the GPU clocks and the FSB clock? What GPU clocks are raised when overclocking the FSB, all of them?

I am attempting to raise the FSB but still keep my GPU clocks at 720/1800/1050. So if I raise the FSB 15%, should I then lower the overclocked GPU clocks by 15% to be at the same level?
The reason I ask is because I can't get a live reading, all my programs just reads the GPU clocks as if the FSB bus speed is 1066MHz and doesn't change when i raise the FSB.

GPU and FSB are independent from one another. FSB affects RAM and CPU timings mainly.

Thats not the case with the G50V.
The FSB definately effects the graphics card alot.

Are you sure? I thought OCing the PCI-E would do that but not the FSB. Can you explain what you mean by "effects the graphics card alot" when you also say "all my programs just reads the GPU clocks as if the FSB speed is 1066 MHz and doesn't change when I raise the FSB."

Also the G50vt and G50v run off the same board and chipset. OCing my FSB doesn't affect my GPU. My computer actually says G50V on the bottom. The only difference is the 9700m GT vs 9800m GS. You can interchange the two.
