thanks, by the way the screen looks fine, better then the one i had before.
lots of people were complaining about the screen and said it was one of the "CONS" of this laptop, but its great.
    im pretty satisfied.

i know this person at "Hans computers," Apparently he can fix almost every laptop problem.. cool eh?
he ordered it for me but im not sure exactly where he ordered from.
ill ask him and let you know.
And if i ever do get the Bsod which i hope i dont get, ill take it to that guy and he can probably find the problem, ill let you guys know when that happens.

Got an 0x124 just now playing MW2. I'm on the latest everything, NVIDIA, 205 bios, etc. What was weird though was that my Logitech G15 USB keyboard stopped working a few secs before the BSOD.

No BSOD yet here either...been putting it to the test pretty good the last week:
    1. Crysis - all Medium 1920 x 1080 - Avg 35 - 40 FPS
    2. CODMW2 - all effects enabled 1920 x 1080 - no AA - Avg 55 - 60 FPS
    3. FEAR 2 - all medium 1920 x 1080 - no AA / AF = Avg 45 FPS

GPU Temps peak at 88c - 89c, have not yet seen it crack 90c.

Not to be harsh but if you come in this thread just to CLAIM "Lol my computer works", please don't. This thread is about people with the actual problem.

There's till tons of people having this issue, including me(Well I've only actually had 1 BSOD, never tried newer games though), and I don't want to send in this laptop to RMA to get it back and be told it has no problems. And I doubt it's a bad batch as it seems games work without crashing without AA. I also bought this laptop at the end of november while it came out in october, so a bad batch at this point is unacceptable and would occur a recall of the product. I also don't think you guys magically got a new batch in a few days interval from which I bought mine; this laptop is hard to sell in some stores since people USUALLY don't buy laptops to play games.

I got through Resi Evil 5 without crashing in three sittings.

I left on Oblivion for 5 hours and it crashed with a BSOD(happened once) when I came back to it

I played Team Fortress 2 a lot, as well as League of Legends. No problems here.

I did PS2 emulation for hours, still no problem there.

didn't mean that way. I just hate to see potential buyer come in and see this thread. They would think, when they buy this laptop, they will get BSOD while playing games. So they will avoid buying this great laptop. If you think that i'm slapping my ego around, that's not true.

^^^ I belong to both Hardware Canucks and Evga Forums, have been a member on both of those Sites for about 4 yrs...
FYI, part of the solution when trying to troubleshoot a problem is to compare problematic Rigs with ones that are problem-free ( I also build gaming Desktops)!
Instead of making unconstructive comments like that, you'd be far better off asking some questions re: both HW and Software configurations of the folks that are not having issues....

Sefam: I don't think anyone is trying to be smug, as your post seems to say. Those of us not having the BSOD issues are wanting and trying to understand why we don't just like you're trying to understand why you do. I don't want a f'**ked up laptop as much as you or anyone else, as those problems may somehow crop up in my system if its happening elsewhere.

Despite what you 'demand', I ask everyone who owns a G51j to post if they've had crashing problems with these specific games - those who do and don't. If we can't narrow it down to something it may never get better for anyone. Chill out, man... when it comes to owners, we all have the same goal for heaven's sake.

I don't know if it's any relevance, but a couple of hours ago I was reading some notes online (through Internet Explorer) while the computer completely froze. I could clearly see picture on the screen while the computer was completely unresponsive to every action. Not even Ctrl + Alt + Del would bring up anything. The only applications running in the background were IE, Microsoft Office and Powerpoint. Regardless of being completely frozen there was no looping sound or anything of that sort and the fans were still running at normal speeds. I had to press and hold the on/off button to restart the laptop. I believe this was the 2nd time this has happened throughout my ownership of this notebook.

PS. It’s a darn shame sefan was banned, I don’t believe he deserved to have his account suspended for a simple rant, but why it turned out this way is beyond me.

Wow, didn't realize he was banned till you said that. His post shows edited so I wonder if it wasn't quite what it looks like now, but if it was...surely someone shouldn't be banned for posting an opinion. It is a shame if thats the case.

There was more in the post....... It wasn't just what is there now.

Anyway, My neighbor got his 3rd BSOD today in Borderlands, 2 were because he resumed from a paused state after a few minutes of not playing, once was 5 mins or so, the other was a 20 minute delay. Both times, after unpausing, you'd move one step, that's when the BSOD occurred. The third today was while playing, but it took 6 to 7 hours. He's played for a grand total of 25 hours.

6 to 7 hours of straight playing? That BSOD must be a protection feature so he'll get up and get some blood pumping in his legs! I kid of course, but man... thats a long session. Or maybe I'm just old. ;)

I can't even play a single game that long... he stopped for an hour and now he's sitting across from me playing again. BSOD as soon as he got to the character selection screen though.

It's basically only happened to him when the CPU is in a major throttle, eg starting up the game or resuming from pause. Now he put Extreme Turbo on with min and max processor at 100%, lets see how long he goes..

Update just bought and played CODMW2 for 2 hours with no issues. Played Civ IV again for a while with no problems. So far it was just 1 random BSOD that I posted about earlier.

similar thing happened once on windows 7, while reading digg comments (with firefox). after CoD crashes on XP, you can ctrl+alt+del and close it, but shortly after everything becomes unresponsive (every time).

7 hours is long? i think you're getting old :D

Just curious.....you guys with BSOD's al have Creative Audigy Soundblaster "uninstalled" ?
I just spent the better part of 4 hrs trying to get Bioshock (downloaded from Steam) to run.
Soon as I run the executable I get the "Bioshock .exe had to stop...yada yada yada error". So...spent a good part of that time going through many posted "fixes" for this including changes to the Default.ini file and a ton of other crap....the change to the .ini file worked, the Program launched, but no sound!!
So, uninstalled Creative...boom, works great! And yes, did try the latest n greatest Open Al stuff....

So....if you haven't already uninstalled Creative Soundblaster HD Audigy..try it....doesn't effect the quality of the sound at all!

    I know I certainly won't be re-installing this "crapware" !

Creative have always had pretty buggy drivers... considering its just an added software layer on top of the decent hardware built in I couldn't agree more: uninstall it. It does, however, have some tangible benefits if the game specifically supports EAX 4, but those are few and far between these days. Specially for the headaches.

So you're getting crashes in XP now as well as Win7?

Nah, I'm not getting old. I am old. 6-7 hours of anything these days and I need a good nap, man.

no BSODs. CoD crashes (freezes with long sound loop) more than i remembered it to, but its still in tolerable amounts (once every 8 hours).

A51j-a1 has no creative hardware parts in it.
It uses realtek hd audio chip and driver.
There is 0 reason for creative software and drivere be installed in the first place.
    Realtek chip doesn't do eax.

Uninstall all .. all creative software.
    Download the newest realtek driver.
Uninstall original realtek driver .. reboot .. install newest one.
You get full graph equalizer and sound effect by realtek driver/software itself.

Asus wanted 1 more big sticker on front that is all.

The exact same thing happens to me, but it happens every time I try to play left 4 dead 2, when I open PowerPoint and a couple more.

I think it is a sound driver issue cause every time it happens de sound loops and after 4 or 5 seconds it freezes.

AWESOME! My computer just froze again as soon as I lunched Firefox. I had to force it to shutdown and restart through the on/off button, but get this now the computer doesn't work anymore. As soon as the laptop starts it takes forever for Windows to pass the loading screen and when I login it wont load pass Windows Welcome screen. It'll just sit there saying Welcome while the damn blue circle spins. Things couldn't be better, especially since I have a exam tomorrow and this is only taking up my precious time. Thank you ASUS for your great $1820 (with taxes) product.

winkey + r (start -> run) -> eventvwr.msc -> System -> look for it there. not sure what the log would say, but it will have the stop code in it.

    even in safe mode?

something to note, even in BIOS 205, i still get "\Device\ACPIEC: The embedded controller (EC) hardware didn't respond within the timeout period. This may indicate an error in the EC hardware or firmware, or possibly a poorly designed BIOS which accesses the EC in an unsafe manner. The EC driver will retry the failed transaction if possible.". this is pretty much the equivalent of the low-level mem corruption error you'll see on linux/dmesg and is more than likely the cause of our problems.

that, or separate ACPI profiles for win7/xp/linux/other-os in which the win7 one has a problem.

In safe mode it takes a very long time to log into Windows and when does I receive a message over the task menu that Windows was unable to load the account and that the account I'm using over safe mode is temporary. I'm going to call ASUS and give them hell. They better send me a brandspanking new machine, casue this is getting out of hand and way beyond my patience level.

from the temporary user, in console, try running something like

    net user cheeseman 123

where cheeseman = your username and 123 = pass
    ^will need admin privs

if you have autologin on, change the account it's auto logging in to. it might be a damaged SAM database (in which case this might correct it), or damaged on the disk (so try chkdsk as well).

If ppl would send their machine back every time there is a software error :p ..
You better learn how to use/diagnose/fix problems yourself .. or go buy apple.

Just create a new user and move your files under that, or find what file got corrupted by the shutdown and fix it.
Chkdisk is a good thing to do too.

I know how to diagnose and fix problems thank you. I've gone through 7 notebooks in that past few years each, some of different brands, and each with their own different operating systems ( Windows XP 32/64 bit, Windows Vista 32/64 bit and Windows 7) but I have yet to experience anything like this. It would be a lot easier to repair whatever is wrong if it’s related to my Windows 7 copy at all, but other than the given recovery DVD I haven't even been provided with a proper Windows 7 DVD to use for repair. Through safe mode Windows doesn't seem to even find any of my restore points which makes the situation worse, so I guess this laptop will remain a paperweight until Wednesday after I'm done with all my work.

Hi. I feel compelled to post to this forum as I too am suffering random BSODs whilst trying to play Crysis on my brand spanking new G51J. Updating the bios made no difference. I see that this issue was first reported almost 6 weeks ago - Asus, what's the story? Any timelines on a fix? $1600 for a gaming rig that can't game...bad.

Anyone else get a bluescreen if you enable jumbo frames on the GigE port? Happens with the first network usage after the change. Then every time you reboot until you change it in safe mode.

I'm running a clean install of Win7 Ultimate and I have the G60J 205 bios loaded, but I'm not going back to the G51J's 204 to see if it has the same problem. It works great for my needs otherwise.

enabled @ 7KB MTU, no problem yet.
    no problem across reboots either.

@fuyuki: did you beat Borderlands solo or with friends?

Just clocked in 10 hours of Borderlands this weekend..had one BSOD right in the beginning when I maxed everything including having AF and occlusion(around 30 minutes in). Then turned those two off and didn't have a single problems for 9 hours straight.

Edit: This my first BSOD since I got this laptop a month ago. Not 124 error code though
