ram timing would make sense if and only if every somewhat memory-intensive application on every platform was affected, which is not the case.

Hey C4ptain, do you know how to generate your dxdiag log? If not, here's the procedure:

click start then in the search box type dxdiag then press enter. Once its up and running, click the 'Save all information' button and save the file to your desktop or somewhere else you can find later. Then, in your reply here, attach that file.

You could also attach the memory dump file that Windows created when you had your BSOD. You can usually find that file in your Windows\Minidump folder (eg: C:\Windows\Minidump\120509-21699-01.dmp).

Finally, if you really felt helpful (or really wanted to help Asus to fix this as soon as possible), you could download Everest here, install it, run it then click its "Report" menu and select "Quick Report - all pages" then "Plain Text". Once it checks out your system, you'd click the "Save to file" menu in the dialog it pops up then attach that to your message as well.

Just trying to spur you unfortunate people getting BSODs to help get it fixed ASAP.

Actually HP is at the very bottom of the list in terms of reliability. You can go do your own research, but HP laptops are poor in terms of quality. Lenovo/Thinkpad on the otherhand are well made machines, but it's only lately that they're falling behind and that might have something to do with the sale of the company.

good luck with HP. Most of the people I know that owned a HP had to get a new laptop in around 2 years. Something always break in HP. either the hinge, lcd, motherboard, graphic card, etc.
Don't know about thinkpad quality now, but if it is anything like the past, they are solidly build and last long. But one thing for sure: thinkpad are not gaming machine. and if you are looking at Asus G51J, then you are probably looking for a gaming machine. So thinkpad would not work for you.

Eh this isn't so much true these days. There are now "home" thinkpads that do have a GT240 in them. They're still overpriced for what they are and their displays are still crap.

Yeah but it's still a GT240.. I'd never consider a gaming laptop with a 240, I'd be afraid it'd be obsolete way too quickly.

Overheating? That's a new one to me. They run warm, sure.....but I haven't heard of any of them actually overheating. But then again, to me overheating means that it reaches a temperature threshold and the computer shuts down to protect itself.

At the moment the only Dx11 capable laptop coming out is from Acer and like HP they're both on the bottom of the list in terms of reliability and service (my Acer had problems after 11 months). True ASUS has given a selective number of us issues with this new machine, but prior to this I've owned 3 other ASUS notebooks and I've been more than satisfied with each of them compared to the array of other notebook brands I've gone through. (Toshiba, Acer and Dell)

This BSOD could possibly be a simple software issue and hopefully not hardware related, but either way I trust that ASUS will take care of its customers well or they wouldn't be taking the number one spot in the quality and service department.

You don't own this laptop tigerlp, so how could this bsod REALLY be bothering you?

Sorry, just reacting to the tone of your posts. In all sincerity, I'd suggest you take a look at the Sager's if this Asus isn't what you want... they're great gaming laptops (if a bit suspect in the build department). Gateway has three new laptops that'd be great for gaming as well. All viable options for you since you hate this one so much.

And no, running XP doesn't have problems. Neither does Windows 7 for more than a few of us, but others are having problems. Dunno why.

Couldn't have said it myself (Not to continue a flame, but if you don't like to take the risk that buying an Asus might cause you problems then go buy something else. No one is forcing a gun to your head and telling you to buy the G51J).

At any rate, people with the problem should still post their everest dumps so that Asus Support can check it out, wish Dragokld still watches this post and updates the the first topic with the quote from Asus Support

Are you serious? You're going to go nuts if it gives you a BSOD...and then we're all going to have to hear about it here every five seconds.

Please for the love of god...hold off and either wait til there's a fix or you find something else that suites you better.

no word yet. i need it until the 11th at a minimum, after all assignments are in and i can get to work on exams. if i don't get a response by thursday, ill give them a call and see how it goes.

to everyone who just got here (from google or otherwise):
    - post your dxdiag
    - OS and install type (recovery, retail, xp etc.)
    - everest report
    - where/when the BSOD occurs AND the stop number

please keep the "when is asus going to fix this", "what a bad laptop", "[brand] is better", and similar comments to yourself. we don't know when it will be fixed, if at all, and not everyone is affected.

ill try to help get this problem fixed.

it runs fine on xp so probably not hardware problem.
just a compadability issue for windows 7 or bios.
we should probably let microsoft know about this problem.

After I called ASUS support, they told me to download the 205 version which can be found on the G60J page.
and not to disappoint you guys, but it really didn't do anything for me.
i really hope that they come up with a real solution soon.

Funny, while posting a reply here I just got my first BSOD. Not gaming, not even in High Performance mode... was running on battery in Battery Saver mode. Wasn't a 0x127 either, it was a sleep mode problem with one of the drivers, I think. Will post info about it here regardless in case its useful:

Updated to 205 ran Project Reality/Battlefield 2 without Extreme Turbo and no BSOD after 30 mins. Lets have more people try BIOS 205 and see the results. By-the-way you can download BIOS 205 under G60J on the ASUS support site which makes sense as the label/sticker on my G51J-A1 also says G60J under "M/B Version".

Everything that was pre-installed with the laptop straight from the factory is there. I'll need to do more testing to see if I'll experiance a BSOD, but at the moment time is limited and I don't own many games. :(

I am starting to get bluescreens on COD4 mulitplayer is it possible that someone in the game is causing it? I notice when I go to a certain server I will bluescreen within a couple of minutes. and I see people complain someone is using an aimbot. but then I go to another server and complete a couple of games.

Yes, follow that guide but with the changes thalanix specified and you quoted. The SATA being most important as without that change you won't be able to boot your slipstreamed xp disc.

IT IS ASUS fault because of buggy BIOS.
Of course people will get blue screens in W7. This OS is not perfect.

Here almost all of us get BSOD with exactly the same stop code

    WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR (124)

That's what we're trying to solve.

The link given by tigerlp is just a general thread about bsods in w7...
