No interviews??! BahWhat I want to read is their response.

what can they say.. i mean really if they admit to being at fault the what... recall??
they are going to stay silent and as far from this as possible...
least they could do for us though is rework some 10.7 drivers and make us happy
then next year some 10.12 drivers, etc...
one or two driver reworks....
ofcourse i would expect a recall, or the ability to take the unit in and get a real working gpu put in correctly as well
then i would consider an asus again... but what are the chances of that -
Day 2 of 10.7a: Still going ok. Ran furmark for 1 hr when I got home from work and now upto 4 hours of having alpha test of an upcomming MMO (awesome graphics too!) playing and it still hasn't had a GSOD.
I think it's only a matter of time thoughThe minute it does GSOD i'm going back to 10.1 lol.

I'm kinda new to all this voltage/clock speed tinkering stuff and have a quick question. Sorry if this is the wrong place to post.
I just flashed my vbios to Ziddy's v3 and it's supposed to have changed the voltages to 1.05/.90, but AMD GPU ClockTool still shows my voltage at 1.15. The options to change it to 1.05 and .90 are there but when I hit 'set voltage' nothing happens. Also the vBios was supposed to make the GPU automatically downclock to 200/500 when running on battery, but according to AMD GPU Clocktool and techPowerup GPU-Z, when I unplug the clocks stay at 700/1000. Am I missing something? I have Overdrive unlocked in CCC so I know the vBios flash worked. I'm on 10.7a and I have Power4Gear Hybrid uninstalled since I never used turboboost anyway.
Haven't had time to test stability at stock clock speeds yet, so can't say if my GSOD's are gone. I wanted to figure out all the voltage/clock stuff first.
EDIT: Ok, now it is going to 200/500 on battery (not sure what I changed), and the voltage is now locked at .900. Shouldn't it use the 1.05 when the clock is 700/1000 and the .9 only when it is 200/500. Or is the .900 stable for 700/1000 as well? -
Yeah, I thought my comp was GSOD free until i tested furmark for an hour instead of 20 minute durations, I crashed at around 40 minutes using ziddy vbios 3. It's past my two week return window so I"m out of luck and stuck with this computer, I really hope ASUS does something now.

Sorry about not looking around. I've found the posts you're referring to. I am indeed concerned about running SCII and BC2 in partcular, so I'm planning on trying the 10.7a release. Tips?
-
UPDATE: I like to play Magic The Gathering: Duels of the Planewalkers, and this game on my system would be unstable on stock speeds with newer reference drivers. Always needed a 705/1100 OC. I would like to add that with 10.7a, I just played a full round with a couple of friends online at 700/1000, and no glitches. Needless to say, I'm very happy with that result.
I think when I get home I am going to archive this current OS install, and use it for when I screw things up again.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
I'd would love some feedback from users using Ziddy's V3 vBIOS + Catalyst 10.7a. People not interested in using a mod vBIOS please do not apply. -
What do you want to test? I haven't unflashed ziddy v3 yet, although I might keep it just for the better battery conservation.

I also ran into some stuff on Hardwareheaven where a chap going by Robin Hood has been modding the Cat releases for OEM Notebook users. I thought you may like to try his 10.7 WHQL release if you have issues with the ones ATI supply. If it helps, let us know about it.
-
Anyone tried those Robin Hood drivers yet? -
-
Looks like a placebo pack
Identical to 10.7 from ATI.
Ironically, it'll probably solve all HellCry's issues heh. -
oh well, hey, I'm trying to find anything that'll help guys.

I have never had a GSOD, and my unit is from the very first shipment (ordered the morning newegg.com posted them in). I have only locked up and crashed once, but I got the Windows BSOD. I've installed every single ATI CCC update from stock to 10.7a. I have about 30 brand new games that I play (I am a gamer nerd and spend every evening of my life playing 5 hours of video games and all day on weekends) and I've yet to GSOD or crash other than that single incident. My temps are not bad, wish they were better, usually around 85* shader on every game but BFBC2 which gets up to 90*. I'd prefer low 80's so I'm seriously considering a repaste as long as I order a replacement keyboard first. I run the 209 BIOS and I have always kept the stock VBios.
I've encountered the keyboard/touchpad issue, but I just disabled the touchpad in the bios. I hate the G73 touchpad anyway and I always use my G9 mouse so this doesn't bother me.
Hellcry, I don't doubt that you say that there is no G73 in existence that won't GSOD given a long enough run on Furmark; but given my experience I don't know if it's just a broad spectrum or there is a fundamental defect in the hardware.
I almost need to stop visiting this forum and reading all this stuff because it's seriously giving me a complex about a machine that has worked perfect for me and my 80 hour a week gaming habits.
I know I am not alone, I have heard others like Jody and ViciousXUSMC share similar experiences.
I don't mean to invalidate any problems people have, I know they are real and I think Asus needs to do something. Personally, I just need to stop reading this message board all day and enjoy my machine. -

I'm right there with you, although I don't game as many hours as you.
I have no idea why I still read every G73JH-related post here....must be OCD.
I do like tinkering since I've been a PC developer since PCs existed, so I don't mind looking into diagnosis and/or potential fixes, but the more I read the more I worry LOL. -
-
-
If it runs without a problem, then give it some Furmark, if it gives GSOD at WEI score...u save the time of a Furmark run
-
-
Used the 10.7a drivers and furmark.

HellCry, the Harbinger of GSOD!

Back to 10.1 for me.
Dear ASUS, can we have some drivers please? -
Just got response back about BIOS 211 from Asus Germany, the short version:
"I am sorry, but we are not allowed to send BIOS by e-mail"
And he gave me link to BIOS 209.

ATTENTION: Can we get some GSOD people to try the desktop driver packages?
-
btw, new bios avaiable!
-
Great! I'll probably hold back for a bit and see what other users say about it. Thanks for the update.
This will be a dealbreaker for me... I'm looking at Clevo laptops and, since I'm still within my 15 days, returning my G73. If this bios fixes enough issues, I'll happily save a few hundred dollars and stay with the G73- I'm a college student so 'just' a hundred dollars goes a long way. -
ATTENTION BUMP: Still need volunteers to try their units on 10.7 Desktop WHQL
-
-
So, we should see what is different with my setup and yours. Hmm. I could prepare an image of my install, and see how that image works with other machines... hmmm.

Sorry if this question has been asked before, but has anyone tried the MSI GX-740vBIOS? Dated 02/02/2010
h/tp://www.msi.com/index.php?func=firmwarefile&dno=11770&i=0 -
I just remembered, I have some of the hardware disabled:
Webcam, card reader, Bluetooth, TV Tuner -
-
-
You can use their previous vBios or the Clevo one, but youll be left without HDMI and VGA out, and it still wont be fully stable. -
-
Every laptop manufacturer makes their own cards according to ATI, they are provided with only the chipset and they choose the rest themselves.
