Sorry for the looooong delay, but I've been packing and making last minute plans for an out of state move. To save some money and to get one I know would work, I actually ordered the XPS bag from Buy.com the other day. I'll have it tomorrow, but it looks like there's already some good info in the last few posts. However, since I'm a G72 owner if you would like to know how it fits I can either post here (as long as it's not too off topic) or I can post in the official G72 thread.

Thanks again to all of you for the advice and info.

Somebody mentioned a black Targus XL for a G73, but I can only find it in blue. The Citygear comes in black- which one were you talking about?

I'm looking at the G73 for a college laptop/desktop replacement notebook if I can keep it in one piece through college. I want to be able to carry whatever textbooks I'll need along with the laptop (I'm doing computer science). Is there a difference between the XL and the Citygear? How is the default bag Asus gives you? What kind of room does that have? If I don't have to buy something extra, that'd be brilliant.

I just received the XPS backpack as well and noticed that the foam padding at the bottom makes it so the laptop will rub against the zipper. I'm thinking of maybe cutting the foam in half so that there will be more room...

The wrap that the foam is in is held in place by velcro. If you pull the foam with wrap, you can rotate it to the main area and slide the g73 all the way in the sleeve.

Thanks for the tip. I covered my G72 in the thin anti-scratch (?) cloth bag it shipped in. Really did not want to fit then, but I'll try what you suggested because I'd like to just slide Lappy right in. All in all, a GREAT bag, and the price point made it an even sweeter deal.

True. It's either that or the plastic clip hits when it sits in the middle.

isn't it possible to remove the plastic clip in some way (i.e. cutting or unscrewing it?)

just got this for my g73....

    http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/...etail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=a2851790

the ppl at Dell assured me dat the device will fit in without any problems....guess I will just have to wait and see.

With the XPS being sold out in most places...i think this would be a good substitute....will post back my findings in a few days.

EDIT The Belkin Bag's main compartment does fit the laptop, but its tight as hell....got it replaced with a
Targus Platinum Blacktop with Dome protection....perfect fit!

    Hi all,

I am looking for a backpack for the g73 too. I liked the M.A.S.K from Slappa very much but the shipping to Turkey costs around 60-80$ and its a little too much for a bag. Any other suggestions?

Saw someone post in another thread that he had this brand backpack: "Pakuma" They have 'em at Welcome to Pakuma or ebags. Looks pretty nice, but not so sure about its protective qualities. Personally I like Brenthaven, as I had the Metrolite II laptop bag.

Cross posting from another forum I frequent,

I guess the G73 does fit in the console/laptop compartment, but it's too snug for my liking. Still considering whether I should return the bag. The G73 has no problems fitting in the main compartment. For reference, Last pic is a Macbook Pro in the laptop/console compartment with a G73 in the main

I had a Slappa MASK. Keep in mind that, although it can fit more things than you probably have, the straps are a little on the slim side. Personally, they were a little uncomfortable, and completely out of place considering the rest of the package. Add that to the fact that it is smaller in footprint than the stock bag but sticks out over a foot with the MASK lid, and you have quite an awkward package. The exterior is huge and rugged, the interior is almost soft-touch and very thin.

It will fit most everything: fine exceptions would be the power supply pushing into the lid of the laptop, which bulges back into the main compartment, no place for a dedicated CD book, and the sleeve does cannot fully close over the G73 (too wide). However, you can buy a Targus Citygear, with similar capacity, quality and material strength, for half as much.

I just picked up the Slappa Velocity Pro Matrix after it being recommended by others in this community. Just confirming that the G73 does "fit" in the main laptop compartment, just the flap is barely able to velcro it closed on the other side (but it does close). An elastic velcro strap extender would be a much appreciated addon to this backpack. But I must confirm, as others have said, it is by far the best quality backpack I have owned and I feel confident using it to carry the G73. Plus, it is dead sexy.

I had the Matrix and switched to a MASK with the KOA face. So far though I've had the straps rip on both bags. Slappa service has been awesome and has swapped them out for me both times.

I'm hard on the bags- I pack a ton of stuff in them, shove them through security at the airport and then under my seat on the plane, or sometimes in the overhead bin. The material has been great but I think I'm just overweighing the bag. If this one doesn't work out I may end up going elsewhere but I would still definitely recommend Slappa's products and their service is awesome.

They're expensive, but I think they're well worth it. I will say that I didn't pay this much for mine.

Laptop, power brick, Zune, earbuds and full-size cans, switch w/large power supply, mouse, Ratpadz, cd-case w/movies and software, whatever novel that I'm currently reading, various usb, HDMI, and other cables, two cellphones and power supplies, keys, gum, aircard, usually a pop or water bottle.

I have also brought a work laptop and power brick with this loadout in the past though I've been avoiding it of late.

The stock one is a Targus, you can try searching Targus G73 backpack.

I wish I could have warned that guy about Ebags laptop finder, for something this unique it does not work in either capacity. Both the excluded and included bags they recommend for the G73 are wrong, maybe the only exceptions are the Slappa ones.

I am going to get the Ben Sherman BS105015 messenger here this week.I will post my experience here soon.

And as I had stated on another board the somewhat low end QuiksilverCarver V backpack works well in the main compartment.

Again do not trust the Ebags laptop finder it is a joke.

I'm having a difficult time settling on one. Right now it's the Targus XL backpack, but the Targus CityGear Messenger also looks functional.

I like the extra room of the Targus XL, but I like the sleek design of the Targus CityGear Messenger. Also, there's the Targus XL Rolling Case for those days when you don't feel like carrying something. :)

Of the three, what do you think?

It might be a little strenuous on your shoulder if you go for a messenger bag. That's what my experience was with a messenger bag I purchased, but maybe mine didn't have enough padding. It started aching after a while, but it was useful that it allowed me to carry both my laptop and a backpack to the airport. Not sure if they would let me slide by with 2 backpacks as carry on.

Ben Sherman Messenger has incorrect dimensions, aaaaaaaaaargh. Anyways I decided to get the Goliath of laptop messengers the Timbuk2 classic messenger XL. I think it is pretty much not padded but Timbuk2 has a really good selection of XL laptop sleeves, something I just discovered after buying this. Get some pics on here because I know a 26"X14" messenger will fit the G73, lol.
