On new egg under "other features" the A2 says backpack and mouse. It does not say this for the X-1.

My G73JH-A2 crashed hard while doing some intense gaming tonight. I took pics to show you all what could happen if you play such graphics-intensive games. Don't try this at home!

Screen is sooo very nice. I just can't believe how nice it is. And, who would have thought that there was a 1620 x 1080 option in the N64 emulator? Pics don't do the screen justice

We can probably confirm it doesn't come with a bag. My A2 from Newegg is showing 17 lbs. on UPS.com.

When we bought my girlfriend's for her 17.3" laptop, it was $75. I can't remember if that was from Newegg or not, but it was just a normal Targus backpack.

    I have a question for X1..
So does the X1 have one 500GB HD in one bay and the other bay is available?
I just wanna make sure of that since I'm thinking about getting a SSD as my primary drive...

I can't imagine they made an entire design change for different models when they all support 8GB RAM stock. (4 DIMM slots.)

ESPECIALLY when they're having a hard enough time getting one model produced.

Uhh... i'm a bit confused.. so, are you telling me that x1's internal design is different from A1/A2 ? does X1 have one 500GB HD in one bay and the other bay is available or it just has one bay?

No, I'm telling you that ASUS had a hard enough time producing one flavor of the G73, let alone making different motherboards for the X1, X3, A1, and A2. They should all have the same motherboard with the same internal ports.

I'm taking a guess (since no one has one yet) that the X1 has two HDD bays, but one is filled with a 500GB SATA drive.

It's hard to tell. Engadget has the Newegg link in a story on their front page. Just be sure to do what you can ASAP in the morning.

what if the second HDD bay is not available on X1 ? This is what I'm worry about as i said I plan to get a SSD as my primary drive. so no one knows for certain yet ?

Nope, no one knows. The first ones will arrive today (Wednesday) and I'm sure we'll hear from some of their owners.

I can't see any logic in ASUS making an entirely different design for the X1, so it should have an empty bay for your SSD.

There is however, the possibility that there is no caddy. As far as I know, no one has confirmed the existence of a caddy in the X1 yet.

2nd HDD bay is pretty much a certainty.

I'm curious about the warranty, too. We'll know later today and I can guarantee the entire Newegg stock will be depleted come 24 hours from now.

This is true. The drive will fit, however. Some laptop HDD bays don't even require a caddy even though they come with one. Sometimes the plastic door has a "foot" on it that keeps the drive in place once screwed back onto the bottom of the laptop. It'll be interesting to see.

.... god!! this is such a hard decision for me to make !! should I order it now or wait until I get some feedback from others... however, the problem is there's a huge chance that X1 would run out of stock by the end of today...

another thing to consider is the possibility of newegg jacking up the price again... as some1 who really had his heart set on getting the A1 from a small time reseller, I would honestly hop on the X1/newegg bandwagon right NAO!!!111! Oh visa debit card why have you forsaken me?

I've made up my mind!!! I don't care if there's a second caddy come along with it or not !! If not, I'll get one. I'll cancel and pre-order on A1 and getting an X1 now!!! there's no way for me to wait almost 2 more months!!!

    "Greetings programs!!!"

Sorry, HUGE Tron fan, and I always love saying that. ;)

So like many of you, I'm a tech-a-holic. Have been using my DFI MB, Athlon X2 4400+ CPU, 2GB DDR Ram, 500GB HD, etc. for over 3 years in a Apple G5 case I modded. The Corsair PS faces forward in the front, which makes the whole PC warm the room more than it already would. ;)

Anyway, point is I want a desktop replacement, and I'm looking forward to it handing decent games. Sounds like these are good choices, but the only game folks have shown in the whole thread is Super Mario 64. ;)

Anyone able to intelligently comment on the video card in this rig? What can we expect?

Also, I'm assuming the i7 proc is the BEST way to go, but I notice it's only a 1.6GHz, where i5 cores in other laptops are over 2GHz. So how does this proc really rate?

Happy for ALL of you that are getting one. I remember that feeling of ordering you new toy! Gotta love that. :D

Personally, I'm thinking of getting the A2, as the bag, extra drive, etc. are all pluses for me. But to each their own!!! ;)

Thanks to the site for the great forum, and thanks for your time!

Don't worry, all the G73 models have the same build. The empty hard drive bay will be there.

As others have mentioned, there is absolutely no way Asus would have spent the time and money engineering seperate builds for the different G73 models. That would be going against a cardinal rule and every precedent of consumer hardware construction budgeting.

Also, for you guys waiting on the fence... I'd suggest buying it now. Newegg's price-jacking algorythm has already kicked in, stock will be gone soon, and judging by demand, you can bet they'll be more expensive everywhere when they come back in.

Your homework assignment is to re-read the G73 thread.

    Quad posted Crysis numbers.
Ken posted MW2 and crysis numbers/videos.
    Justin posted Crysis videos.
    Ziddy posted numbers.

The rest of the information you are seeking is also in the main G73 threads. Use search and a little digging around.

Anyone else notice that newegg does not say the speed of the memory? I am probably reading too much into this, but just a thought: maybe this shipment also has the 1333 MHZ as well, but its a temporary fill-in speed. So newegg doesn't want to post the speed because the post will be either incorrect for current shipments or incorrect for future shipments.

Does anyone have any links where I can read up on the basics of fitting new optical drives in laptops? I have been digging around trying to figure out what is likely to fit in as a blu-ray replacement if I choose to do that later. All I can find is on asus' website, the G71 has a 5.25 size optical and newegg sells 5.25 optical drives... but others have said I can't assume they will fit!

The first few A2 shipped with 1333 (I think, says somewhere in the mass of posts in the A1 thread.) Since this is the first time these are shipping it should ship with 1333, if the trend continues.

I really didn't want a desktop replacement but need a laptop and this thing is just too awesome to pass up!

I was so close to ordering the G51JX-x1 but it's just too ugly.

Can't wait to get it and drop the SSD in there.
