AMD 5870M 128bit 1GB GDDR5 - Stock 64GB/s Memory Bandwidth
NVIDIA 460 128bit 1GB GDDR5 - Stock 40GB/s Memory Bandwidth
Both use GDDR5. AMD provide much better controllers Nvidia are on the same page as above exactly the same Bus/Vram/Memory but runs 33% slower.
The difference is substantial and will become more so as time goes by.

Hmmm l40GB/s...is...just...PITIFUL!
My old P-6831 fx with a 8800m GTS does better than that! -
guys.. it seems my local reseller tell me my g73sw is G73SW-BT not G73SW-BST
from googling, i found that G73SW-BT is from btotech.com
and it supposed to be 1,5GB ram and 192 bit.
strange. what should i do? im using this machine less than 1 month( April 29th )
i have contact my local reseller to solve this thing, and waiting for his response
my question is >> are all G73SW-BT is from btotech?? ( like BST come from BEST BUY)
if i have G73SW-BT that supposed to be 192 bit and 1,5gigs. do i have rights to complain and request for RMA/exchange??
help!!!
-
Look on the underside of your laptop, it will state the exact model you have. Seems like from those pics you certainly should have the 1.5gb/192bit bus version.
Are all the other specs correct, like the 1080p, 500gb hdd, etc? Hopefully you can get this resolved swiftly, its not too late. -
You have every right to complain because they are advertising a gtx 460M with 1.5 GB of dedicated ram when in fact they sent you one with only 1 gb.. Technically thats false advertisement and they could possibly be sued for that. But yes... you have every right to be mad especially when you paid 1599.99 for it..
-
underside of my laptop >>> G73SW-A1 ! in my box >> G73SW-A1/BT
ok this is really serious problem. glad i found this thread, and i still wait for response from my local seller!

So.. A BST with a 1GB 460 GTX with an A1 sticker. LOL
I suspect shenanigans
-
that is really odd.. even my local sellers is confused. they offer replacement for videocards. glad to hear that. will sent this rigs tomorrow for replacement
-
If that's an A1, it should have 2x 500G Momentus XT drives, 8G RAM, and the 1.5GB 460M. Give me the retailer info who sent you that, I want to foward this to Asus.
-
i dont know where, my local seller buy this g73sw.
but today they sent my asus g73sw-bt to asus service center for video card replacement with tags "video card memory down from 1.5gb to 1gb"
im in indonesia btw.
they said asus indonesia is out of stock with g73sw. and maybe it'll take time for video card replacement. sucks... i take my harddrive so i can still access my data, and my local seller give their g73JH FR to me for temporary replacement, so i can still play and work with G73 series with ATI flavor
LOL
-
btw its not A1... its BT >> difference is >> only 1 500G momentus xt, and dvdrw drives no backpack/gaming mouse. still 8G ram and 1.5GB 460m (but sadly i got 1GB!and im asking for video card replacement!!)
-
no no.. she said IF it were a A1 version then you SHOULD have 2x 500 GB and a 1.5 gb Vid card............. -
A1 in indonesia is $2200
i bought from them BT, its kinda like A1 but with
1x 500gb
dvdrw
no backpack/mouse
$1900
they label it G73SW-A1/BT -
hence they labelled it incorrectly because the A1 version comes with 1.5 GB VRam, and 2x 500 GB......The BT version apparently.. according to you.. come with 1 GB VRam and 1 500 GB... hence they are DIFFERENT... Hence it is NOT a A1... Hence the labelled it INCORRECTLY... Hence it is false advertising.. period...
-
confusing... i wonder if i can check my g73sw type by checking it from serial number in asus website??
my g73sw is currently in asus service center for video card replacement to real gtx 460m with 1,5GB vram.
and i can not complain about "A1 sticker label thing" with local seller. because it is clearly i bought this G73SW with cheaper price under label of BT from the first place.even though the serial number and model sticker of this g73sw is A1.
its $300 cheaper, and comes without bluray and no additional 500gb xt momentus no original backpack/mouse (but they give me another backpack and gaming mouse for free)
and im ok with that.
i wonder if that "BTO 28/4" means they bought it from btotech.com ??

I have a question for someone who knows the answer.. lol
Im tired of asus advertising this thing with that blue led strip under the screen... how in the do we turn it on....... almost every pic of the new G73SW has that blue led under the screen, yet no one can turn it on?.... thats pretty ed up to me.................. -
That's because 5800M is running at much higher memory speed (625Mhz vs. 900Mhz)
In reality, Nvidia's memory controller is actually better than AMD's version. But like I said, unless we're talking about high resolution gaming, anything above 1GB VRAM as this point is a waste. -
Unortunately, you can't, because it's not there. The SW doesn't have the blue light.
Alot of resellers, shops, etc. are simply using the picture from the JH, which does have the blue light. -
The blue light is not really that special to be honest and you can only really see it if you have the screen closed and your leaving it on. It also flashes when on standby but thats about it.
If you want lights you should have got the G70S  -
I think the blue bar was removed due to customer feedback that the blinking bar during sleep mode was too annoying.

Your overclock results equal 1.5GB stock results :x

No, it is not. There is a difference of about 100 points over the GPU in 3dmark11.

In short:
Graphics score of 1.5gb: 1602 >Overclocking> 1995
1GB of Graphics score: 1517 >Overclocking> 1840
There's a big difference between 1602 to 1840. Despite the gtx 460m 1.5gb is faster of their version of 1gb, it's not that big a difference, as illustrated in 3dmark11. -
I get P1850 on the JW at stock settings. My best overclock is like P2133.
-
no.. on the vantage overclocked. i got over 10000 and on the 3dmark06 i got over 16000

Thank GOD I looked at this post the day after buying the G73SW-BST6 ... I'm typing this on that particular laptop right now but I'm am going to return it ASAP well within the 14 day return period. BUT I have a few questions.
1) Does the amazon model of the G73SW has the 1.5 gb vram model with the 193 bit memory bus?
2) In all of your opinions which is better the GTX460M with the 1.5 gb of vram and the correct memory bus. Or the ATI card the 5870 mobility?
THANKS SO MUCH .. I'm so glad i decided to look up this odd issue when I noticed the card on notebook check had 1.5 GB vram and mine only had 1 and thankfully I've caught this cancer before it was too late. I'm NEVER buying anything from BB ever again.
Thanks again,
Robbie Owens -
my stock 1.5 gig was getting high 14900.. so you did good.. and i suppose the .5 VRam does make a difference.. lol You WILL enjoy it once you get that beast back buddy.. I hope you get it back soon too!!
-
Anyone tried the 1GB version with the Witcher 2 yet? If you get better results than the ATI I will
-
yeahh. for know im enjoying replacement unit , g73jh with 5870 1600x900pixel. this ati is beasttt but also got high temperature..
-
Does anyone know how to get this MSI Afterburner to actually save the profiles i create.. it always goes back to the stock clocks...-.-...And i went into the .cfg file and edited the 0 to a 1 like a few people in other forums suggested...

Did you right click the slot to save?
-
Just tried that and still no luck
-
Im talking about graphics points.

Hi!
I've got Asus G73SW-BST6 from BestBuy with 1gb GTX 460m
I made 3dmark11 tests
Results:
stock: 1947points
OC 805/1450: 2299points
OC 830/1480: 2356points
Ithinh the diffrence between 1gb and 1.5gb is abot 30-40points in stock 675/1250Mhz -
how about 3dmark06 score?
-
i didnt made yet
i'm dowloading now 3dmark 06
what is stock score from 1.5gb in 06? -
What CPU score are you comparing this too? The GPU score difference is noticable but will really only be affected by the loss of bandwidth 20gb/s when running a program at a higher resolution like 1080p.
-
im sorry that test is running on 1280x720. default is 1280x1024 for comparison
-
It's pretty well known already how much the 1.5 Gb. 460M (192-bit) with an i7 2630QM with native resolution of 1920 x 1080 scores on these benchmarks on stock GPU clock. Not to encourage arguments but these are the standard resolutions from these free benchmark softwares. -
748points in EXTREME TEST 3dmark11 - OC: 830/1480
615 points stock
in 3dmark06 my defaukt resolution is 1280x720 and i cannot change this because i've got basic edition
what score got gtx 460m 1.5gb in 3dmark11 in extreme test? -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Is your screen 1366x768? If so plugging your laptop into an external screen of a higher resolution and then opening the benchmark should set it to 1280x1024.
-
no, i have 17,3" its 1920x1080
I made new score: 2398points (850/1500) - temperature is about 69Celsius
I think there is no difference in 3dmark11 between 1gb and 1.5gb, scores are similarAttached Files:

128 bit version of the gtx 460m is watered down and it sucks.
-
That is because you are overclocking above the 192 bit versions clocks and you are running the resolution at 1280x720 which does not utilise enough bandwidth to show the difference the extra 20Gb/s bandwidth you lose causes.
Compare your 1080p stock score with that of a 192bit version and there will be a difference the evidence is clear to see.
Its very sad that my old boy 5870M is smashing your score with a 720QM in it as well
Asus walking backwards again.
P2581 Can only hope the 560m does the business.
-
Lol my 740 is nice, but i need a repaste(idle temps 49-57C) unless they just run that hot.
-
Perfectly normal.
-
Ty bud. oh and what is the temps for the gpu that is like 10C hotter than the others??
-
What are your idle and load temps?
