Definitive Guide to Uninstalling Broken or Corrupted ATI Driver files:

    1. Run Uninstall ATI Catalyst Install Manager in Control Panel.
    2. Run Driver Sweeper.
    3. Clean files and registry with CCleaner.
    4. Reboot into Safe Mode.
    5. Run Driver Sweeper.
    6. Clean files and registry with CCleaner.
    7. Search for any files starting with ati and delete all in:
    C:\Program Files\ATI
    C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies
    C:\Program Files (x86)
    C:\Windows\System32\drivers
    C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository
    8. Open services.msc
    9. Stop the service "AMD External Events Utility"
    10. Open cmd console and type in: sc delete "AMD External Events Utility"

Response should be: "success: [SC] DeleteService SUCCESS"
This should delete atiesrxx.exe that is undeletable.

    11. Open services.msc again and verify that "AMD External Events Utility" has gone.
    12. Clean files and registry once more with CCleaner.
    13. Reboot and install new or older driver that works!

follow exactly what you said but nothing changed. I actually reinstalled window to see if it window or left over driver related.

I'm pretty confident that my issue is bios and vbios related. or maybe hardware related.

Anyone try taking the battery out and running on only AC power to see if these changes anything? I had this type of issue on my old MSI laptop because the ACPI/battery management kept pinging for the battery power in Crysis and adding the stutters. Might be something similar.

Wow after reading all of this I may just hold off from running 10.8 until something better comes out. I have 10.7a right now and it still works great.

After running the 211 bios, and the beta vbios w/OD, and catalyst 10.7a, it's working flawlessly. No lag/stutter or GSOD's. I get excellent frame rates too.

I should also mention I did a fresh install of Windows 7 and the necessary drivers.

I played CODMW2, COD4, CODWAW, BF2142, BFBC2, Mirrors Edge, GRiD, DiRT2, Mafia 2, and a few others with no issues what so ever.

I'm very happy with the new vbios.

The best drivers I've used so far are modded drivers from TweakForce.

Mobility Catalyst 10.5. So far all games run great, including StarCraft II.

For the short time I got to use my Loaner G73 lol, I did run the 10.8 drivers on a fresh windows install. Everything essential was installed ( basic drivers, Creative stuff + Latest Realtek, 211 + 93vbios). Ran TF2 flawlessly.

Again this came after my way of installing the Beta 10.7 drivers which include coverage for every card, desktop/mobility, then the 10.8's directly on top.

A quick update on my stuttering situation,

I'm currently on 211, Gary's vbios and catalyst 10.7a. I just noticed I don't have any stuttering with Just Cause 2, it runs flawlessly.

NBA 2k10 still stutters a lot, less stuter with PES10, same amount of stutters in Assasin Creed's 2

I don't know what is my problem since i don't think it's hardware related, Just Cause 2 runs fine with impressive FPS. It has to be a window issue, I googled and found out that many people also suddenly have stuttering, though there isn't any universial solution.

Besides, i used CoreTemp and noticed that when i'm playing 2K10, it runs smooth while the core load at around 45%, suddenly it droped down to below 40% - stuttering happened then quick dissapeared and back to arround 45% again. I had my P4G setting as Performance as well.

So 10.7a is the way to go atm? Besides maybe the tweak 10.5.

Just flashed my vBIos and went to 10.7a instead of 10.8. No reason to "upgrade"?

mm, someone remember my video of furmark getting stuttering when i disable twinturbo?

Today I have playing with AMD gpu clock tool and I put 5870 at 150/300, then the pc crashes and I had to shut down. When I returned to windows with 5870 at stock settings (405@700/1000) I tried furmark and it runs without stuttering although with twinturbo disabled.

I'm looking AsusXperts users who suffer microstuttering and they have the 5400 disk version

with 8gb many games/maps/scenarios are totally loaded to the RAM, so they don't need the HDD at all but for the initial loading. Never have shuttering but (under my eye) low performance in MW2 with 10.8, so, now I'm with 10.7a and everything runs perfect.

It's known newer catalyst drivers improve some game, but also it's known with some improvement, they break others improvements for others. The most recent know situation was for BBC2 which in desktop, from 10.1 to 10.3 receive some improvement which was broken in 10.4 and but return in the 10.5 version. At the end, you must find by yourself which one fit the most games for you.

What it's the the temp that we must worry about actually? TSS0, TSS1 or TSS2. The 1 and 2 are always higher than 0, and my averages are always closer to TSS0.

    mm fresh news:

4 users that i have located in AX with 5400rpm HD suffer micro-stuttering in games, One of them has switched his 5400 disc for a hybrid momentus XT and micro-stuttering is gone.

perhaps the problem is caused by index server service

i experienced the same problem today. SC2 used to run at ultra everything flawlessly (with minor lag during big battles) but now it is often jittery and laggy.

I am on BIOS 211 with garys vbios and 10.8 CCC. i hope somebody finds a reason for this cause every time my g73 seems like its gonna have a good day something else is wrong XD
also note after updating to the new BIOS etc. i have NOT experienced ANY bsod/gsod :)

    Indexing service disabled...
The thing is if i switch to the MSI vBios i get no more stutters of any kind so i doubt it could be anything like a HD. Games dont really rely on HDs when they run, all they need is usually in the memory once the game has loaded.

Hey guys, just bought me a G73 a few days ago. The only work I have done to it was install bios 211 and disable all start up programs, everything seems to be working fine. Although i'm still not 100% happy with the gameplay/frame rate. I have yet to update my GPU drivers but I will get around to doing that soon. Any tests you may need me to perform? I have a wide selection of games, (BFBC2, MW2 (not installed), Flight Sim X, Burnout Paradise, Mafia 2, Fallout 3, borderlands, WoW, etc

So far I have been comparing the performance with my desktop, with an i5 750, 4gb DDR3, 5870, blah blah, and i'm getting slightly better performance out of my desktop. I believe the only edge my desktop have is having a full 5870 video card.

The ones that i currently play and stutter on mine are DDO & B&W2. SC2 does it very rarely and it just might be too much action on the screen causing it there.

Ah, thanks. In idle my average are around 58C with powerplay. With powerplay disable the increases to 62C. On games (dont use furmark) my temp are around 85C.

And processor are around 42C idle (O% state), 47-50C browsing, 57C high demand apps.

    Those temps seam fine ;).

    Btw. to answer an old question;
How does ambient temperature impact GPU temperatures.
Just a while ago my ambient was around 27C~28C, and my temperatures were: 59~61C idle, 93C peak furmark.
Now my ambient is 21~22C, and my temperates now are: 54~55C idle, 88C peak furmark.
I did not repaste in between and i use a non-curing thermal paste (MX-3).

how do i check if i have a 5400, i think we all have 7200 drives?

i read some guys also said that slow hard drive causes stuttering in games that have a huge maps like assasin creed 2 or just cause 2, however, i mange to run just cause 2 just fine, I come close to believe that those games that are stuttering don't make use of my i7 very well.

Does anyone play assasin's creed 2?

one thing i noticed is that stuttering seems to happen more in win7 64 bit for everyone, i might switch to the 32bit version to see how it goes.

What I would do is go into the BIOS, and disable as much as you can, and then turn things back on one at a time until you get the lag back.

Yeah, it's slow and tedious, but you will figure out what is causing it.

Usual suspects are either old wifi drivers and LAN drivers. I would start there. Heck, in fact, update all your drivers, and do a forced overwrite with the latest Intel INF.

I did disable my wiresless, sound, lan, usb, webcam, everything i can in the bios. no luck

Could it be IRQ conflict? I checked and i saw some of hardwares share same IRQs. is it ok?
