All element has to do to prove the naysayers wrong is make a video using his phone or camera of his system running furmark in real time. Just show that the bottom cover is fastened to the system, show ambient temp, run furmark and then nobody will ever dare doubt it.

first of all..who said the bottom cover was fastened to the system? I clearly stated in earlier posts I was running without the panel to emulate the mods I plan on doing to the backpanel from forge once I get it. Secondly- you assume I have a video phone, I dont. Hate cellphones with a passion. Third, but not least. I don't care to prove anything to anyone- I know my system and could care less what naysayers think.

It doesn't concern me--I've got throttle issues to worry about. I don't really care one way or the other but if there is a way to shut them up, that would be it.

    Don't worry, I get that a lot on CS:S.

The KGB has now taken the M15x power issue as a subject of interest.

Come back to G family, you know you miss the heat. You know you almost had me into going M15X in the future.... now i dont have nothing to look foward.... maybe asus releases a dual cooling setup someday.

lol no one would come back tot he G series once to move to the epicness of AW, regardless of that problem. im sure it isn't that "serious", but we shall see. if it is, DELL will be obligated to fix it. i say some1 who owns M15x, run some RTS/GTAIV/CPU intensive video games to see if the problem persists.

Greatings all sorry is my english is not the best but i'm portuguese :) i just register and i would like to know if anyone can confirm if the back cover that you are talking about is the same for g60j, that is my labtop. i ask because i can't find other than just for g50v and i'm not sure if the dimensons are the same. thanks

by the way great forum and great ideas

ps i didn't had time to read all posts but i tried something this weak that showed me something interesting, if i do the stress test on the gpu without the botom cover the temp never rises up 83 and is always up and down between 72 and 83, that ocurs when the fan kicks in and when it stops. so what i'm trying to say is that the holes on the butom cover if well placed make all the diference.. Please correct me if i'm wrong and my english to loll

what tape do you use for the blocks? how about crazy glue? what about making a back plat that is an entire fan in the circle area? and another fan in the gpu area of the back plat?

have it shipped to a country that has a ups store in it. then have the ups store mail it to you. or you could just purchase another on off ebay that is doa for parts.... or make one your self out of wood.... or plastic or something with a dremil...

after better analysis on my labtop (g60j), i got the impression that, tought the arquitecture of the g60j is similar ti the g50 and g51, the g60j as less space in terms of hight. If the copper blocks fit they will be in touch with the back cover or even the cover will put pressure at least on some blocks because i mesured and is less then 4mm, maybe 3,5mm max, there for, very tight...i guess i will have to think of something or stick to the drilled back cover, that is, if i ever manage to get one :(. i thought of something like taking the 2nd hard drive off and put on that space a fan and try to make some kind of air flow that, at least, renovate the air lowering a little the temperature, does this makes any sense to you guys?
by the way i read all the tread and i have to say you guys did a very good job and achived excelent results. and for sharing the knoleage my thanks

I never understood the fake grill on the underside of the laptop!? What the hell is it there for? I took my cover off and it looks to have a sound dampening type material on it. Is it a cover we can snap off?

Best guess it was designed to be open air went but at manufacturing someone screwed up and started the press machine up, and b4 they realized there was a shipment full without opening cut.
There was no going back after, when all the back plates are packed up like that.

It suks when using it on the go on tables, but at home can just use coolers or fans to push more air.

There is no point to mod and add fins/ramsinks/openings and void warranty until it expires .. the cooling depends how much air pushed thou the case itself.

lol...it's not like that, there is a solid reason why they would do it. if it was like you suggested, when the started manufacturing the second revision of the G series, the G5 1, they would've actually cut it as they were starting off fresh. the G50 also had this, so it has someth. to do with thermal specification, SS had a good hypothesis tho.

The heatsinks act as, well, heatsinks, that absord heat from components, letting them heat up less quickly and giving them additional surface area for air to cool them down.

The drilled out bottom panel is meant to emulate having your bottom panel removed. In conjunction with the heatsinks the difference is noticeable.

I'm loving the copper mod so far, definitely helped out with my G51J.

My neighbor has the G50 series with a T9400 and 9800m GS. He has literally heated up cups of water by placing them next to the side of his rig. Melted crayons accidentally too... He's interested in the mod as well now. His brother was playing Left for Dead (1) on it, so I interrupted him and installed HW Monitor.... wait til you see this...

He doesn't want to reseat the heatsinks since he still has a year of warranty, but needless to see we'll give it a good cleaning.

Also looking into good notebook coolers. Which ones do you suggest for these models? How is the fan placement on your NC2000?

Forge's backpanel has arrived, it is riddled with holes but my idle temps aren't nearly as good as predicted (and as hoped would match the non-panel setup) will check Maximum Furmark temperatures later with the standard res test.
