How would I check this? I know my "system" BIOS is 211. Is that the same thing?![]()

Not sure if this is right or not. I'm assuming not. -
nope, its not.

I'll flash the updated one tonight. Hopefully it will fix this. -
im really sure it will.

can someone make a new vBIOS with proper powerplay.. i have chasity's Overdrive one but 250/500 battery is ok but 405/1000 on AC idle is too high.. i tried ziddy's vBIOS and his is broken for me.. the clocks on AC are weird... i need this as i can get more battery life and save some electricity

Okay, I think I successfully updated. Is this right?
http://i903.photobucket.com/albums/ac239/powermapler/BIOS123.png -
Yep, that should be correct. And I think you would know it if it wasn't successful
-
-
i have noticed today that after flashing this new vBIOS, my battery lasts a lot longer
GPU clocks go down ´to 300/1000 also in high performance mod with battery... -
If you flash to mine, you get Overdrive and 250/500 battery settings
-
@Chastity
That will be my first thing after when i get my gpu replaced -
please can any body give link of hellcry vbios bit lazy to search
also anybody tried both chastity and hellcry vbios which one is better for lowering temp in idle -
His would since he uses more aggressive settings
-
ya give me those links.. i'll use those.. too lazy to learn RBE... i've just started university and got a ton of stuff to do.
-
That is right, i used very low (you could call it agressive i guess compared to the broken Asus overdrive) clocks in my modded vBios - i took the latest MSI vBios clocks as a base for it.
I removed the previous link out of caution, but since so many people have been asking and sending me PMs about it, im going to repost it here.
Again, and i cant stress this enough:
Use this vBios at your own risk!
Some people, myself included have had absolutely no problems with it and its worked nicely to lower temperatures and increase battery life by a fair ammount, but since these GPUs arent made identical and are in general built inferior to the MSI/Dell/AW ones, some GPUs just cant handle clocking up and down so much and some people have had crashes and/or bad flickering with this vBios, so please at least test if your laptop can handle the clocks with AMD GPU Clock Tool prior to flashing this vBios.

stupid question now... why is the checksums for?
-
The checksum is for you to verify the download if it was indeed complete. If you get a different checksum, then something went wrong and the file is broken.
-
i understand that but how do i check this?
-

That is not completely true, your file can be broken and you can still get the same checksum (collisions ) (in the case of simple parity checks for example (possible even for md5 but not accidentally) ) -
thanks HellCry .
but can any one tell how to test using AMD GPU Clock Tool as said by HellCry . I am noob -
Im not sure if you should be doing this if you dont completely understand it, but ill tell you anyway...
Open up AMD GPU Clock Tool and set the clocks (write them in the fields that have the current clock numbers in them and press Set Clocks) that are used in the vBios. If it switches fine from and to all the clocks used, it will most likely also work in the vBios, if it doesnt the vBios will probably give you trouble as well.
The clocks used in the vBios are:
300/400 (low) -> 700/1000 (med,high) on AC
100/150 (low) -> 300/400 (med,high) on Battery
and 500/1000 for UVD
Voltage was also dropped from 0.95 to 0.9 on the lower clocks, but that shouldnt present any problem.
Again, do it at your own risk, there is no guarantee offered with this. -
ok i tried as you said it didn't gave any issue . switching was smooth .
thanks hellcry . now time to put hellcry vbios -
i'll try it out... ziddy's vBIOS was broken for me... i had a 405/1000 AC step whcih wasn't supposed to be there...
edit : something's just weird... my AC stepping is 405/400 and under battery , game clocks don't reach 300/400... temps are lower which is good but something seems wrong.. similar stuff was happening with ziddy's... does anyone else get this? i'm keeping it for now but this is just weird.. i don't get any flashing or what so it makes it weirder..........
powerplay wise , when i se to max performance on battery , idle clocks are 300/400... still doesn't explain the 405/400 for AC power which is set for max performance...
ok so its a powerplay issue still can't see why 405/400... -
BUMP! Need Opnions! Wow the temps are low on idles... GPU's in high 40s.... lower by 10C idle... this 405/400 on AC power is only irritant.

@ Hellcry
Would you mind telling me what MSI vbios you use and wich is Latest MSI vbios that works with the G73JH? -
lol i don't have the time.. anyways , idk.. my idle temps are 45C which is just awesome... down almost 10-15C.. those clocks don't matter.. just wanted a second opinion.
-
Just want to say thanks for the fix. I'm deployed here at Saudia Arabia and I pretty much had a brick sitting in my room because I couldn't play Final Fantasy XIV or anything newer cause it would crash.
Temps are a little high but I'm in a high temperature area even indoors.
Quick question, if I were to do a clean install of Windows 7 and add a solid state drive, would I need to redo the flashing of the bios and the vbios as well? Thanks. -
-
@sean you are using hellcry vbios ?
-
To answer the two questions:
The Powerplay on battery is still half broken, since i cant change how it handles clocking down and up in RBE (and no other tool that is available), only Asus can do that (and theyre busy sitting on their behinds).
I can modify clocks, voltages and Overdrive limits. I say half broken, becouse it doesnt clock up properly in many games on battery and has way too little clock profiles to use (medium and high load are just one profile for example).
As i said, Asus hasnt done their job and this vBios is still not finished and i suspect thats why they didnt upload it on their support site as an official update.
I wish i could do more with the Asus vBios, but with the tools available i just cant, i just tried to improve what i could. Sadly the most important settings are still in the hands of the manufacturer (in our case Asus).
And to those that want to know which MSI vBios i used as a base for clocks, it was ATOMBIOSBK-ATI VER012.020.000.032.035757.
Its also the one im currently using, becouse its got PowerPlay that actually works like it should and is perfectly stable for me unlike the Asus one (but i do loose HDMI and VGA out, but having a stable and slightly better performing laptop is a priority for me). Im not saying you should use the MSI vBios, becouse its got its risks involved (you have to force flash it becouse you obviously get an ID missmatch since it wasnt made for our laptops and someone had a failed flash that way, but for most of us it works like a charm), im just illustrating what could have been done, but hasnt been on the Asus vBios. -
Thanks for the information..
My first gaming system in YEARS !!!!!
First, started getting BLUE Screen of DEATH, thought it was related to this GSOD.
Turns out it was a problem with the antivirus software and Windows 7. Had to turn Netbios over TCP/IP v4 OFF or turn off the antivirus software..
THEN I got the GSOD..
Followed the steps to resolve.. bios 2.11, vBIOS updated per instructions, CCC 10.8.. NOW I have no problems.
I know many are discussing heat issues, etc. I mostly play Civ 5 right now, and have had NO issues since resolving the BSOD and GSOD issues.
Heat just doesn't seem to be an issue for me.
I have no issue with the keyboard or touchpad. I don't like the touchpad, but haven't had any 'software' issues with it.
The rest of my usage is business related. I got the ASUS because now the kids are out of the house and I have time to do some gaming. My wife doesn't mind at allwhat a great woman..
she told me to get the more expensive system so I could play games. Leaves her time to 'do her thing'.
This board turned around my 'I made a major mistake getting this system' to 'wow.. with these updates, I'm 100% happy with this system'. Granted, I'm not a heavy users like most of you, I just want to play some games once in a while and not have problems..
again, thanks for the INFO in this thread... -
Love the laptop, Hate the vBios. -
my powerplay's fixed... just need to turn overdrive on and off.. had no problems.. thatnks hellcry! Your vBIOS has been perfect!
-
After using the tool to put the DOS files and make my flash bootable, I notice that looking at the flash drive on MY COMPUTER, there are no flies listed. I can put on the flash flies etc., manually, but the DOS files don't show up on the flash.
When I format my flash I used the extracted files from the WIN98Boot but nothing seems to show up on the flash. Am I doing something wrong? I tried booting to the flash from the BIOS screen and it says enter vaild boot device..... -
-
ok after using hellcry vbios for 3days now i am getting flickering stuff strange thing is that if i set clock to 305/400 no flicker but as default 300/400 i get flicker . also i tried setting it to 200/400 no flickers strange .
-
-
edit: you don't copy the win98 boot files to the drive, you just use hp format tool to do it (select the folder etc) you just copy the vBIOS and the flash utility there -
.
-
ya totally strange card it run fine 290 and 305 not on 300
. right now reading tutorial of RBE trying to learn it
-
The flickering is mostly caused by lowering the ram unfortunately.
I am lucky enough not to have this problem, however my friend with the same laptop G73JH, gets tons of flickering regaurdless of what you set the ram at as long as it is below 1000mem. -
