technically if the first sector is broken you can't boot.

Do we have a option to control the Fans already?

BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!
Can someone unlock the fans on the BIOS, please. -
-
Okay, just updated my vBIOS.

Havent tried any games yet. -

what's the best bios version to use with this vbios update? i'm using 211 but i read somewhere that 209 is actually better to use with this update. can anyone confirm?

Another question, is my fan suppose to be spinning all the time after vBIOS update?
My idle temp is only 53C because of that. Not really a complain, as im quite happy with the temp now. It's almost as low as a desktop GC. -
The fans are autocontrolled by the BIOS and it's temperature table / TSS0 core temp reading. As long as the fan is spinning, life is good.

hello there i have read these forums and would love to know from the users which is the most up-to-date vbios they would recommend between gary chastity and hellcry.
ps thanks to all of you for the great work. -
So is it Asus has not yet officially got to a video bios? I was thinking of getting a JH but am not sure I'd want to go with an unofficial hacked vbios.
I would have thought by now Asus would have fixed this, or is their fix to off the JH and get rid of inventory to replace it by the JW and leave JH owners out to dry.......... ?
Edit if they are leaving JH owners out to dry I have to seriously rethink getting a G73 at all.................. -
lol, Gary vbios93 isn´t and "unofficial and hacked vbios"
-
Edit; I looked on their support site not only did I not see a vbios I search gsod and there is nothing there as well for the term. This is not very reassuring, I think they have lost a sale as what problem would I have that they would bail on me too.......... ? -
The vBIOS was developed and put forth from Asus' R&D Dept, and is being used in current G73JH units and by Asus Support for RMA's.
Do you need it to be any more official?
Asus will not post it on their website since they do not want to support anyone flashing their units. They prefer you RMA it. However, it you mess it up, just RMA and they will fix it still. -
I am not saying it doesn't work nor a great fix but you are leaving the general masses to fend for themselves if they don' have a heads up and official company stance easily accessed from the manufacturers site. I mean that I really doubt every JH owner is coming here and getting the goods..... -
People who have the GSOD issue and know how to research the problem will end up at this site, and will do the update themselves if they choose to. -
Just curious, what date did Asus Support start using the vBIOS for GSOD RMA's?
Anyone know? -
You need to understand is that the NBR forum was used for the beta development and testing, which is why the links are homegrown. -
GSOD once on Fur Mark with Catalyst 10.10. Other than that, everything seem ok so far.
Im expecting that im gonna RMA it at least once. :/ I'll fix my Dell first before my G73 have any serious issues. -
so if i dnt get a gsod but my starcraft2 is laggy on high what would be a recommended fix still updating bios and vbios?
-
Are you running on stock drivers?
I tried BFBC2 on stock drivers, the game tend to lags when im spamming noob tubes( in campaign, mind you) for fun or places with lots of smoke. After updating to Catalyst 10.10, smooth frame rates ever since. I havent tried my SC2, though. -
I have a doubt I don't know if you guys ever faced it: whenever I try to download a new mobility driver, it doesn't have the driver itself - it only have the catalyst control panel
I tried to download the latest one (10.10 - Windows 7 - 64bits) using the Util or download individual drivers. I installed using this steps:
1. Removed previous drivers;
2. Rebooted
3. Install new driver and reboot
4. The resolution is still not the native one and when I enter catalyst control panel, it says the GPU is not supported and quits. I checked the device manager and no ATI driver was installed.
I checked the folder the driver uncompresses itself and no INF file is there... The INF file is there when I use the Asus old driver (10.1)... do you have any tips?
Thanks a lot! -
Weird. This is how I do it:
Download this special Ati Mobility driver update tool. Run in, click install. I don't uninstall the previous version, I just install the new one over it. After the installation I'll do a reboot.
That's it and so far always worked.

isnt right. -
hey jubarim,
I had the same problem, well it usually happen when m trying to install ati catalyst older than 10.7.
The best way to install a new ati catalyst i found was, install driver sweeper, uninstall ati catalyst manager completely, Then switch to Safe-MOD run driver sweeper and click on ati display hit analyze and clean. Then restart on normal windows and install the new ati catalyst as usual.
It worked for me, however u must make a backup before doing this. -

sorry i dint see, she has given 10.10 also... Yeah u can use 10.10 i guess it will be good...
-
Oh no no, the link is for 10.10 WHQL driver.
The thread he posted is first related to 10.9a, that's why. -
So its updating Bios Vbios and CCC to fix all problems? would someone mind posting links to the most updated ones I have read through the first 30 pages and the last 10 pages and kind of confused which to use since theres about 5 different versions floating around for vbios and its still 211 bios for every one of these versions of vbios?
-
In the end there are 2 Asus versions. One is the original beta and the second is Chastitys modified version, which enables overdrive.
You should find both on the first page. -
Or in my sig link below

After playing a game for 2 hours with AC on my room, but here i live is very hot
And the stupids Fans are always working @ the same speed -
How hot is it where you live? I mean what is the room temperature, 25, 30, 35°C?
I just wonder that because you wrote it's hot...
Btw. your temps are a little bit hot, is the laptop on a flat surface and can take in air from below? -
Just one question, how much does ambiance temperature affect the GPU temps?
It's gonna be summer over here in Australia, and it could be extremely hot, like 40C. Will 40C ambience temperature actually cause my GPU to overheat? -
Well i live in Africa it´s very hot, the room temperature must be around or above 30º, and the laptop is on a secretary, and this are the temps using the laptop to browse the web, with music on, normal mode
I can do some cooking on my laptop -
alex, thats pretty hot.
I'll freak out when i see that temp. -
-
I always store my laptop in my secretary.
-
I wont, I simply wont comment on that one Chas but the mind boggles. I never had a secretary you see but they must be hot. And big too
-
@alex, your temps are really hot for just browsing the web. 81°C Idle for your Ati Card is in my eyes way to much. I have 57C idle, with a room temperature at 22. So if you have like 8C more room temp, then should your Ati not be higher than 65 and not 81 :S
My advice is to send it in for RMA for a repaste. You could do it yourself, but it's a little bit risky. And if you do it wrong, then it might actually worse than before. -
man, I pretty much stopped reading this tread since mine is working just peachy besides touchpad issues and thats it (lucky me).
haven't heard from Gary in ages, last I heard, he was saying bad words at asus. Welp, I guess anyone would with all the frustration there has been.
in a few months, my next step will be to switch to ic diamond once I actually start doing some intense gaming on this thing.
anyway, good luck everyone. Can't wait for a touchpad fix. -
@Chastity or anybody that could help me.
Hey man, you seem to be pretty good at fixing VSOD / GSOD on the g73jh series. That is why I need your help. I want to know what to do to fix my problem. I sent my computer twice to asus repair center, it took 2 months and I still get many vsods. I'm a little frustrated and now I just feel like doing all this stuff on my own. As far as I've checked, my bios version is 211 and my vbios seems to be older than the 012.020.000.032.038352 since the last number starts by something like .037...
2 things will trigger vsods on my computer : running sc2, full hd resolution with ultra graphics settings will cause it to fail within 30 minutes. The screen will black out for a split second many times before it happens. I could actually tell when its about to crash. lowering graphics = no vsods, or almost never. ( but i dont want to lower graphics on a gaming computer, if I did want to do that i would have bought a cheaper laptop right? ;p)
Running the donut will cause it to happen after 2 minutes. the gpu temperature doesnt go above 87 celcius while doing the donut. I use HDMI out and I hook my computer up to a 24 inch ASUS screen with full hd display. The lid of my computer is shut at all times.
Also, Catalyst is version 10.6. I dont know which version is ideal.
So basically, i need all my computer features (hdmi out working) with no VSODS.
catalyst 10.6 / bios 211 / vbios .037something
note that my bios version is 211 and not 0211 (as displayed when i press f2), i dont know if they are the same.
Should I update my Vbios and catalyst to 10.8 (I want hdmi out to work)? Im really noob with all this stuff so.. thats why i need help ! ;p
*also, for some reason it wont let me create a fat 32 usb drive, is it because my usb disc is too old and i should buy a new one?
Thanks for your advices. -
Based on this info, you need to update your vBIOS. Too many times I've read that the vBIOS was flashed by Asus, and they keep using that damn older one which doesn't work.
Grab the one from my sig, and if you are having issue with making a USB boot stick, you can use a USB HDD too. You can also try FAT16 (or FAT) on that stick, if it's under 1GB. -
WOW thank you SO MUCH! This fix actually works! I just used a 16 mb usb card in FAT and the flash seemed to work because i ran the hairy donut test for over 10 mins now at 87 degrees, NEW RECORD.
The system is really stable now. I didnt get any screen fumbles of any kind while running the test. Now I need to check for some sc2 at ultra settings.
Thanks again! -
Ah yes, another satisfied chastity customer!
Cheers, -
Chastity any idea why I might be getting GSOD's even though I updated to the new VBIOS?
I orginally installed the VBIOS before I installed Gary's VBIOS and thought that might have any issue with what was happening earlier so I flashed yours. One time it was a pretty orange, the second time it was an orange Sherbert color with vertical lines running up and down.
Here is what I've done/tried so far 211 BIOS, Gary and your VBIOS-es, Powerplay disabled, Creative Driver fix, I've tried Catalyst 10.10, 10.10C, and 10.7a on Gary's and I've tried 10.7a, and I'm now trying 10.10 with yours, and temps seem to be just fine.
VBIOS under GPUZ: 012.020.000.032.038352
Thanks! -
Hi Chastity & all...
I'm new to the gaming laptop world and have an issue with my new G73JH. I found this thread and it looks related.
Issue#1: Playing a DVD or data CD with video on it, the laptop seems to crash/blank out with an error noise after several minutes. To fix, I've been doing a force shut down.
Issue#2: Surfing the net after some time (sometimes only 30mins) the screen goes grey or striped grey. Once it recovered after a few seconds saying there had been a driver error with the ATI Radeon Family card. Usually I need to force shutdown.
So Far:
Asus recommended I reinstall the OS. Problem still there before & after doing windows updates. Have installed catalyst_mobility_64-bit_util... and supposedly have latest updates.
So...
I've seen the discussion in this thread so far. What are the latest recommendations? Is it related?
System Info:
Microsoft WIndows 7 Home Premium Version 6.1.7600 x64bit
i7 Q720 @1.6Ghz
Bios Version: G73JH.204, 11/01/2010
SMBios Version: 2.6
Graphics:
Catalyst version: 10.8
Bios Version: 012.017.000.004
Cheers. -
@1kingdom247: Update your vBIOS, link is below.
You have the old stock vBIOS which causes crashes with the Catalyst you are using.
