Works great. Went from a clevo vbios that I've been using for a bit (Gsod free) to this new bios and, so far, it seems gsod free as well. 211, 10.8 and this is a beautiful thing.

2 - vFlashed with "New 08/30/2010 vBIOS with Overdrive"
3 - When i try to instal Cat 10.8 it says that my GPU is not supported? ? Anyone?

    EDIT: Nevermind, something was missing...

Any benefit to this vbios if you don't experience gsod? Aside from overdrive I missed the other details.

Glitches at lower clock speeds (set with AMD GPU Clock Tool, on this vbios and 10.8s):

100/200 - YouTube videos cause the whole system to lock up and a restart is needed.

200/405 - Periodically the Aero translucent GUI switches off, reverting to the basic scheme. It recovers after a couple of minutes.

I've been using 200/405 for a week or so due to the lower temps (I need a repaste), and haven't noticed this glitch before this vbios. As for 100/200, I only started using that today, so I don't know if it's the fault of the new vbios or whether it's inherently unstable. After I repaste this won't be so much of a problem and I'll be able to use the higher speeds (I'm idling at mid-70s currently and don't like that).

I haven't tested any games yet because they just auto-shutdown due to heat anyway.

to get chastity's version with overdrive unlocked working, you have to remove vflash.bat and use only updateod.bat?

overdrive is part of the catalyst suite for overclocking you gpu

for manual control. i think powerplay still remains intact.

For me it didn't fix anything.

10.8 catalyst was installed after the previous version was wiped with a special tool.
    211 Bios was installed successfully
    93 vBios was installed successfully

And yes - GSOD is still here!

I just wonder how a company like ASUS could manufacture a GAMING notebook and COULD NOT TEST IT PROPERLY before selling.

I got my notebook in March, and I have this vBios update only in September! That doesn't work by the way!

    Latest products purchased from ASUS:
    1) DVD-RW - stopped working
    2) nvidia 9800GTX+ - died
    3) ASUS G73 - GSODs

This notebook was the last ASUS I have ever bought. Thank you very much for your attention.

Games - Starcraft 2, Call of Duty 6, Call of Duty 4.. I don't play anything else.

Can provide a memory dump analysis if anyone tells me what is it and how to do it.

That seems to be a heating issue not a vbios issue. 111c is extremely hot and I think the temp for it to shutdown is 110c if I read it correctly in another post.

    Reporting....

Installed 10.8 a couple of days ago. Then istalled latest bios a while ago and finally vbios from first post.
Normally I'd get a crash instantly or within 2 minutes in furmark.
With the new vbios I ran furmark for 40 minutes without any problems. Max temperature - 93 C

One thing that worries me is the high-pitched, barely audible noise coming from my gpu (?) on a high load. Had it happen before, keeps happening with the new vbios.

    One more question -

In Ubuntu - fans are working like crazy. I mean really. Like a small airplane. Max temperature is 95C.

In Windows - I hardly hear the fans.

Is there ANYTHING (a program, hardware update) that can set FANS to 100% ALWAYS (even if videocard temperature is 10C and i'm playing outside in winter)?

Only the Bios can control the fan speed. Unless Asus releases a bios update that forces the fans to be 100% all the time, it will never happen.

Thanks for the awesome support Gary, and everyone involved. Happily installed 211 + vBios + 10.8 and everything's running great so far. Did a quick 3 minute Furmark without a hitch and will test gaming in the coming days.

Thanks again! This is the type of community involvement and support that makes a lasting impression on customers!

To everyone who wants to start complaining and bi7ching about my posts or my presence here: I couldnt care less what you have to say, so if you dislike me and/or my posts just ignore them and move on instead of littering threads and making it harder for everyone to find useful information.

I took some time today and downloaded and flashed the new vBios and did a clean install of the 10.8 cats.
    Here are my findings:
    - No more GSODs/VSODs!
Tested: 3 hours of Furmark (2x 1.5 hours with a reboot in between), 2 hours of StarCraft 2, 2 hours of DDO, 1 hour of watching flash and watched one blu-ray movie.
    - Powerplay works as it should.
    - Overdrive is still half broken.
By half broken i mean that you can use it to overclock your GPU, but when it downlocks after GPU load drops, the memory stays at its overclocked state. This also means if you overclock the memory to more than what your GPU can take and make it crash, after you reboot the memory will still be at that frequency and youll most likely get an instant crash again and again after rebooting. But if you use it wisely it shouldnt be too problematic, so this is really up to you, but ive chosen not to use it in the end and just reflashed to a vBios with locked overdrive.

I also tried how low i can push my clocks and found out i can use the same clocks as the newest MSI vBios (means it can go way lower than 250/500 Chastity used) and on top of that i dont even get any flickering when the memory clock changes using powerplay.

A screenshot of what im using:

This came just in time. I was just about to go through with my 3rd RMA in order to get an entire new replacement laptop or a full refund, but now i luckily dont have to go through all that trouble.

So i have to say thank you to Gary Key who kept at it and finally provided us with a much needed vBios. If only Asus did so from the start... Now we just need the promised solution to keyboard missing keystrokes and ill finally be able to fully enjoy my laptop. Would be a nice idea to also make a seperate sticky for the Synaptics drivers when you have them for us just like you did for this.
And can you give us any update on the Synaptics driver package you said would be released next week now or a leaked beta perhaps :)?

So let me get this right... Gary released a new version of VBIOS that fixes the timing issue. Chastity then released a new, modified version of CCC 10.8? Or is this a VBIOS fix too?

In other words, in what order would i update my computer? I would flash with Gary's then flash with Chastity's? and where would installing catalyst 10.8 fit in here?

I have been following these forums for about 2 months. Ever since i got my G73jh from microcenter. I would get GSOD on any driver above the 9.12 Stock one that came with it. Today i followed everything step by step and  IT WORKED..

211 Bios + 10.8 Ati Driver + Beta Bbios posted by Gary (not OD) = 10 minutes on furmark Full Screen 1920x1080 AA 8x Max Temp 91C .. No Repaste.

THANK YOU SO MUCH EVERYONE :)

Legit i cried when i saw 10.8 Working cuz it was amazing.... :D
I have had GSOD with everysingle Ati driver since.. And i did the clean reinstall each time safemode Driver Sweeper.. yea i know the whole thing..

    This Vbios WORKS! :)

Gary released a new version of the vBios, Chastity edited it in RBE to enable overdrive and set the battery clock to 250/500.
I edited the new vBios from Gary to lower the clocks more (and voltage on battery) to get lower temperatures and better battery life taking the MSI vBios as an example for core/memory ratios and also made an overdrive unlocked version of each of those.
All of these are the same vBios, just the settings are a bit tweaked on the edited versions.
Noone did anything with drivers. They come directly from ATI and should work as they are.

So you are saying that i should flash the vbios with chastity's so that i can get the overdrive feature and then install 10.8? Do i have to get a special version of 10.8 to get the overdrive features or will they just appear on the stock versions of 10.8 due to the editing?

Thanks for the help here Hellcry, i don't see why everybody else gives you crap

Is there any reason why UVD is at 500/1000? If I edited that down to match the battery saving mode of 250/500, would that cause any instability that might bring back GSODs?

I spend most of my time in the Quiet Office profile, and on the previous vBios, the clocks for were matched (for notebook in battery mode, and UVD) at 200/500 for both, so watching flash videos didn't cause my screen to flicker.

But now it clocks to 500/1000 whenever UVD is activated. Annoying imo.

Also, I flicker when changing mem clocks, but not core clocks.

    And welcome back HellCry.

Im not saying you should use the modded versions, that is completely up to you. Overdive still isnt fully working so i myself have decided not to use an unlocked version but thats just my preference. Just make sure youre flashing the newest vBios which actually solves the GSODs, be it the version from Gary or the unlocked version from Chastity, and you can use any driver you wish with that (the latest 10.8 being the most logical choice of course).

I had trouble becouse some members strongly dislike how i expess my outrage when i have to wait for months sitting stuck with serious problems and pointing out the other laptops were better for not having those problems really ticked some people off and there was a very heated argument on why this laptop is better/worse than the others and some people posted lots of missinformation to try to proove their point... Lets just say we couldnt agree on some things and i could have expected as much trying to have such a discussion in the Asus section...

The UVD has always been 500/1000 so which vBios were you using before ?
I think the UVD clocks are so high becouse 250/500 perhaps wouldnt be enough to handle 1080p video and 500/1000 is used to ensure fluent playback, but i havent tried running such video on so low clocks so i cant say for sure...
You can try setting 250/500 with AMD GPU Clock Tool and testing if 1080p video plays fluently and if it does i think it shouldnt be a problem to edit the UVD in vBios to match your battery clocks and reflash it, but then when you use high performance and start up a video it will flicker there, so unless you use high performance really rarely id say you wont gain much. Test it and see if it works with GPU Clock Tool first.

Dont have as much time now so i wont be posting so much anymore, but thanks, its been a while...

So i just had quite a scare while trying to flash the bios. I followed all of the directions just as gary posted them and then i used Chastity's vBIOS. When i booted off the USB, all i got was a single underscore flashing in the upper left corner. It wouldn't do anyhting and no keystrokes i made did anything. i had to hard reboot and change the BIOS. What could have caused the error? Should i not use Chastity's?
