The VBIOS update VOIDS the warranty no? Why would I want to do that on a brand new machine :'[
Sorry guys I'm getting old! I don't want to tinker with anything anymore, I just want to work the way it's advertised.

No it doesn't void your warranty, and if you freshly format a USB stick, you should be fine. Flashing takes all of 10 seconds...
-
-
Yeah, I'm trying to regester my product online at the moment. However, I'm at work ^^....
I can't get the serial # of my box while I'm at work
Another question, this is so I don't shoot myself in the foot....
I'm currently deployed to Iraq, will Asus even take my product even though I bought it less than a month again In San Diego, California?
Or will they say your product is no longer supported because you took it outside of the country? Just wondering, don't wanna get boned... You know how it goes....

Oh ok thanks antisniperspy and ALLurGroceries!!! I had no idea this wouldn't void my warranty! I actually thought it would...
Can you send me the link for this vBIOS on ASUS site? Or is it only on this forum? -
see my sig link below for the vBIOS
-
I don't mean anyone any disrespect when I say this but after talking to a ASUS Technician...
Modding the BIOS VOID's the warranty!!! Has anyone check to see if ASUS actually released this? -

There are a few different modded VBIOS files on this forum, most of which use the one on the first post of this thread as the base. If you aren't comfortable flashing these, that's perfectly understandish-able, but the one on the first page is a beta VBIOS straight from ASUS.
If you don't trust any of that, head on over to this ROG forum post by another ASUS employee. -
Sorry to change the subject but does anyone know where i can find the ATI 10.10 drivers? While playing black ops on 10.11 my game always ends up freezing
-
I followed all the steps and it works fine after I install catalyst 10.8 for one restart. After a 2nd restart it goes back to vertical lines of death, gray screen of death or black screen of death. Help please! I'm going prematurely gray from trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong!
Runs at 91 C after 10 minutes on Furmark. No GSOD. However, 10 minutes of Left 4 Dead 2 has a BSOD, GSOD.
Reminder, I can play Left 4 Dead 2 for hours right after I install Catalyst 10.8 with no GSOD issues but after a restart or 2 it starts up again!
Addition: Sometimes its a white screen with gray lines as well while other times its just a black screen. Have to do a reboot.
Addition 2: Tried Chasity's vbios and it worked for one restart again then while on this webpage I got a white screen of death. Had to reboot. -
-
It's the game, not your driver problem. -
You want a picture of a white screen?
-
best of all , do a OS reinstall just to make sure not software problem.
Leopard2 -
HAHAHAHA, I hope you get this sorted out 0rlo
Send him a pic of your white screen
How is black ops anyways? Worth buying? I've seen it on my brothers XBOX360 but it looked awful. -
Turned off the power play feature in catalyst and it seems to have done the trick. I did get a BSOD after playing left 4 dead however but not during the game. Maybe it was just an anomaly but I'm skeptical. Anyway, happy gaming.

What kinda settings can you play it with the G73JH?
--- I noticed with guru3d's gpu clock I could set successfully 771/1100, I did this without much more heat surprisingly.. I was wondering if there's anyway to mod a bios of my own for this?
<- LOL listen to me Mr. doesn't want to void his warranty. Meh, it might be better to just set the gpu with that tool from guru3d. Less to worry about eh? I wonder if they hook up the machine to a bus reader if they can tell if you messed with the clocks or anything, some weird cache built into the bios space like the hijack/anti thieve mechanisms, Oh no.... hrmmm *scared*
I know we used to flash the x850's to x850xtx way back in the day.. rofl... I don't even remember the website I used to do this, power something no idea... -
Having mobility 10.8 installed when I flashed my vbios and bios 211 with me other driver updates, was my issue of not being able to update my driver just a chance happening and nothing else?
-
1) Turn off your hardware monitors. These can cause driver restarts.
2) Uninstall all things ATI, reboot, run ATI Crap Cleaner, then install 10.11 WHQL.
3) Have you updated any other drivers? Intel INF with -override option? WiFi? Lan? Realtek audio & HDMI? Touchpad? -
I have recently bought asus g73jh, do the vbios files given in the original post still hold good or we have an updated vbios.
One more question the keyboard light fix patch in this post http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus-gaming-notebook-forum/513264-keyboard-light-fix-gary-key.html needs to be applied after bios 211 flash right?
i think i have bios version 206 i can flash it directly to 211 right? no need to flash to 209 and then 211
Sorry for being a newbie and loads of questions. Thanks a lot in advance to any replies
-
-
No you should not have to use the keyboard fix unless you use the wrong program to flash bios.
Yes you can go from 206 directly to 211. -
thanx a lot m8
-
This has probably been already discussed, but I flashed the beta.rom from the suggestions in the other sticky thread for G73 problems.
Is the one on this thread the better/latest vbios? -
-
@Chastity
It appears to have been the powerplay option that was doing it. No problems for the past 2 days. Fingers crossed here.
If it happens again I'll update the Intel INF, the wifi, lan, the audio & HDMI as well as the touchpad. The only problems I was having seem to have been associated with powerplay. Thank you for your concern. -
Hrm, now that you mention it. I didn't have Tune Up Utilities on my computer before when I did have the GSOD.
With that being said, Tune Up Utilities asked me if I wanted to disable powerplay because of the windows power settings profile. I checked yes, and it did the rest.
Also, I updated my drivers to 10.10e, since then, I've overclocked this thing to hell and back while playing AA3 for hours on end. Not a single GSOD, that's without the vBIOS fix. -
Hello everyone
I am thinking about buying the G73JH from Best Buy for $1200. I dont want to spend much more than $1200 and from my search this seems to be the best gaming laptop for that price. In one of the best buy customer reviews I saw the G73JH GSOD issue and ended up on this forum. It seems the majority of you have found success from Gary's fix. My question is whether or not you recommend the G73JH, given the frustration of this problem. How difficult was the fix to implement and has the issue resurfaced since you used the fix. Also, if you do not recommend the G73JH, is there another gaming laptop you recommend?
Thanks -
@mlb426
I'm still on the fence w/ it. I'd say give it a try. For me its not working but this is my first G73JH. It is possible I just have a bad one. Going to try overclocking it to make it work right.
@Chastity
Any tips on fixing it w/ overclocking? Experimenting now -- so far I had a VGA crash but it recovered. Something is resetting my graphics card drivers somehow as I got another GSOD while playing Aliens V. Predator. The funny thing is I can play Guild Wars for 3 hours w/o problems but as soon as I fire up a game that requires a little extra power it GSOD's. I really don't want to RMA it but if overclocking doesn't work then I will have to. Thanks in advanced! -
@mlb426
This is my first laptop computer & I absolutely love it. I hated it at first cuz of the frequent GSODs. But with the fixes, it's perfectly stable. Played New Vegas & Black Ops with maxed settings without a stutter. There's lots of peeps here that will help walk you through updating vbios & bios if need be, as I did cuz I'm a noob at such things. I would highly recommend this comp. -
One more thing it would be great if someone can post MD5 Checksum for Gary's file like chastity has given for her's.
thanks a lot to this community its such a relief knowing wat is wrong and how to fix it -
If it works for you, then go for it. It was already explained that flashing your vbios does not void your warranty and its a 10 second process (I even have the steps in a video on my signature). But its up to you. -
It's what I had to do to get mine working. I couldn't go to 1100 as I got screen tearing on some games. I thought raising it would fix it initially but that changed quickly when a game I was playing turned into a bunch of wild colors. Anyway, so far so good on 705/1080. Wish me luck since my vbios 211 fix still isn't working!

version: 012.020.000.032.0383.G730 (as reported in BIOS) 012.020.000.032.038352 (as reported by HW apps) -
I just purchased this laptop off new egg(the re certified deal), and I'm trying to figure out the best way to handle the errors
I've found multiple philosophies:
Play with it until you get errors then try to fix.
Update BIOS to 209 immed.
Update BIOS to latest immediately.
Any thoughts on how I should handle the Notebook? I want to make sure everything is ok before my return policy is up.
I appreciate the insight.
Also, I see the overdrive BIOS, what are those?
-Zach -
@ZDS:
I would
1) Install stock drivers and any desired software from the Asus driver/utility disk
2) Update BIOS to 211 if necessary
3) Update video BIOS to the one on the first post of this thread
4) Update the audio and HDMI audio drivers to the latest from Realtek.com
Those should fix the vast majority of G73JH issues. -
Thanks Mark! How would I determine if it is necessary to update to BIOS 211?
-
You could also use a third-party app like HWiNFO32 to check the current BIOS version. -
G73JH is an awesome computer, got mine from BB too and never had a GSOD, i would recommend it anytime to anybody with the budget. Dont hesitate bro, get it, its a hell of a beast
-
@Chastity
My vbios number. -
That shows you have the latest beta vBIOS, which is a good thing. You should not have to overclock anything to have a stable gaming experience. Please set your clocks to 700/1000 and give it a whirl.
-
@Chastity
Clocked it a 700/1000 and got a white screen of death from just surfing nfl.com. I think mine is just an exception to the fix.
Got a black screen with orange lines a few minutes ago clocked at 710/1095. What a headache. -
Try updating your drivers, especially realtek ones and wifi ones, also get the windows 7 crashing patch (still beta) -
@0rlo: I would suggest at this point to setup an RMA at a local ASP and get a video card replacement, because without having the laptop in hand, I am running out of ideas.
As a last resort, I would uninstall everything ATI, reboot to safe mode and run the ATI Crap Cleaner, then reboot, and download and install the Catalyst 10.11 WHQL, and ONLY INSTALL THE DRIVERS ON A CUSTOM INSTALL. DO NOT INSTALL ANYTHING ELSE.
Run it this way for a couple of days, and see if it still b0rks on you. If it doesn't, then go ahead and download the CCC Standalone installer and install that, and test again. -
The wierd part of all of this is that it works for several hours after I do a fresh install of ATI drivers or flash it. Wierder still is I've never gotten a GSOD on Furmark even after running it over 10 minutes. Something is making it trip up. Was checking out some old fixes and one mentioned uninstalling the asus program power4ghybrid. Wish me luck. If not I'll RMA.

http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/Apps/P4GHybrid/Power4Gear_Hybrid_Win7_32_Win7_64_Z1142.zip < Current version of P4G Hybrid
I use P4GH w/o issue, so maybe you just need to update it. -
Chastity, are you using the OD function which your vBIOS gives you access to?
From my understanding, the two differences from your vBIOS to the new one are the following:
1) Lower clocks on battery mode
2) Access to OD
Is that all?
I'm planning to update to yours tonight for the purpose of overclocking via Overdrive. I am presently on the other new vBIOS w/o OD.
Thanks! -
Yep... 250/500 on battery, and Overdrive enabled.
-
I read on the ROG forums that updating using a non standard vBIOS can void your warranty as it gives access to features which "may" damage your hardware... Well duh... but void the warranty? Argh.
Maybe I will hold off as I just bought this thing and want to keep my 2yr ADW
