Correct, UVD settings below 500/1000 can cause stuttering when using hardware acceleration for high definition video or intensively encoded video.

I use 250/500 because when the labs were looking for a compatible setting, this was acceptable across all the machines tested. You're welcome to customize with whatever your hardware can handle.

I'm just glad it's working for people, and I don't have to waste my weekends running tests all day. :)

For people having trouble making a bootable flash drive for this, see my 3rd sig link (GSOD Resources) for a guide on this using the utilities provided in the package.

Nothing wrong with Chastity's. You never made it to the DOS command prompt so something's up with your bootable drive.

Try googling for ati drivers and use their installer package for mobility 10.8s? You might have a desktop version.

This vbios is interesting - I didn't have gsod problems before but I figured a preemptive attack on it wouldn't hurt. I'm now on this new vbios with 10.8 and my idle temps are 5c lower, and the max load temps are 1c higher... I also get slightly higher min fps scores in unigine. I wonder if the "official" asus version will have OD properly/fully enabled?

    First it downloads 10-8_mobility_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc.exe.

Run that downloaded executable...it first extracts the install package then runs the extracted installer.

Hello guys nice to see that something is happening here. Btw can anyone compare performance with regard to original old vbios.? Are they same with new or better or maybe worse.? I never had problems with mine machine and there is no need to upgrade if there is no some performance improvements :). thanx

I've seen a few people comment that they are seeing minor boosts in performance in benchmarks and in games. Also adding 1c to their max temps.

What are you, 14? Calm down. I agree with you 100% about having a broken computer and being upset, but it's the internet. People are basically anonymous. When you get upset over nothing, it reflects poorly on you. You've been helpful to me, and although we disagreed, you've made some good points. It doesn't matter though, if you act like a spoiled teenager. Let bygones be bygones. Holding a grudge (esp. on the internet) isn't going to do a thing for you.

    Thanks for your contributions!

I was using Cat 10.6 before and just updated to 10.8

    catalyst_mobility_64-bit_util

    install it afterward... :)

I havent written anything to start an argument again or have i? That wasnt my intention if thats how you see it...
The are only two people here, who i do not intend to name, that were really uncivil towards me and i cant help but hold a grudge against them, but i dont intend to keep arguing since its just a waste of my time. A reminder cant hurt, so thanks, but i dont intend to make them start again...
Glad to hear you appreciate my posts regardless.

Again, please use AMD GPU Clock Tool and test the clocks before flashing the edited vBios to see if your GPU will handle it as well as mine. If it does and you decide to flash it please do post your expirience with it. ;)

Caution noted. Thing is I've been using 200/500 to watch HD rendered with DXVA and I've never had any stuttering. Even with 1080p Abatar.

All I really needed to know is how to use RBE safely. :D

Chastity's distro link has the updated atiflash.exe right? This thread grew too fast for me to read (been sick, doctor's) but I remember reading something about Gary packaging an older version of atiflash.exe into the rar.

    *sigh*

Noob issue. I've flashed previously but for some reason I get nothing but a flashing cursor. I've tried different packages of the HP tool, and even tried a linux option but at most I get a flashing cursor. I have removed the boot option- perhaps someone could walk me through creating the bootable flash and adding the boot option in bios? I can't type at all at the cursor and thus can't use the vBIOS or bat file options.

I know it's been listed elsewhere but I've had no luck. Thanks.

If you want to try the Mid version, try 300/400 and 400/400.
If you want to try the Low version, try 100/150 and 300/400.

Chastity has the latest atiflash inside if im not mistaken.
But heres a link to the newest if you need it: Link!

    1. Download 93vBIOS.rar

    Make USB flashdrive bootable.
    2. Extract HPUSBDisk.exe to Desktop.
    3. Extract win98boot to its own folder on yer Desktop.
    4. Run HPUSBDisk. Check "create DOS Startup disk" and navigate to the win98boot on your Desktop.
    5. Hit Start. Voila.

    6. Spam Delete at Post. Enter Bios.
    7. Navigate to Boot.
    8. When you have your now bootable USB plugged in, Hit the Harddrive BBS Priorities thingy. Select your USB. You don't 'have' to create a new boot option.
9: Boots to DOS command prompt.
    10: C:/ pops up.
11: Type in Vflash. Hit enter.
11a: Type in updateod (if you're using Chastity's)
    12: Hit Enter.

    Voila.

    @HellCry.
Thanks. :) So just hit Save Bios in RBE and flash that? Assuming I keep the same file name so I don't have to edit the .bat file as well.

Try using the hp tool to reformat the stick again, don't use the quick format option.

You don't NEED to add a boot option in the bios - simply scroll to the far right option (where the save/discard changes/exit is) and select your usb drive, hit enter. You'll boot off the usb drive but it won't boot off it by default.

If you want it to always boot off the usb stick whenever it's plugged in, under boot options you'll need to manually add it and give it a name, though I forget the little details.

You also don't need to go into the BIOS setup at all...just hit ESC key during POST and choose the USB drive from the boot device options.

Note: If the USB device doesn't show, try enabling legacy USB support in the BIOS setup...I had to do that for my thumb drive.

    aramis,
make sure to restore BIOS defaults first (furthest right menu) then reboot the machine before trying to load the USB flash disk.

I have a hunch you have legacy USB devices turned off which would explain why you system is not reading the flash drive.

    hope this helps.

Well there it is, my first flaw. Perhaps I am the only one who's experiencing such G73JH behaviour. After 4+ hours of gaming (nfs:shift, league of legends, mafia II) I noticed major and sudden framerate drops, endlessly oscilating between 14 - 90 fps. The complexity of rendered scene is irrelevant to their presence. My temps are all right, and after a restart things are working well for about an hour or so, then it starts to chop again.

Such weird slowdowns weren't present earlier on the 209 Bios, stock vBios and asus 10.1 drivers.

    One thing im wondering about AMD GPU Clock Tool;
Ive tried the command -restore using a shortcut to restore the clocks to default (after using another shortcut to set some custom clocks), but it just doesnt work - the clocks stay at the previously set values...
I also tried using the default -core= and -mem= values but than powerplay doesnt kick in.
So does anyone know of any working way to make a shortcut reset the clocks to default so powerplay works again (and without having to open the program and click restore clocks)?

Youll get some bugfixes and improvements with updating the bios (like fixing the fn+esc freezing and some problems after sleep and hibernation...) and one improvement - powerplay by updating the vBios, but theres always a very small risk of bricking the machine when flashing the Bios and vBios so youll have to decide for yourself if you want to do it or not.

you know thats right , i just thought the bios had some hidden advantage like a higher fan speed :D, from what i read 95-97 is a bit high but on most games its 80-90

Ive been playing it for around 5 hours since flashing the new vBios and havent had that happen, but ive noticed something else; while playing DDO after i flashed the previous beta vBios and sadly also on this one the game sometimes freezes up for a second or two and than just continues like nothing happened, which it never did on the stock vBios. Anyone had that happen?
