Its about 130. The DVDs you find in Best Buy and staples are only upgrades, you will have to get them shipped. I purchased the Pro version for myself.
-
Just as a side note, you can use an upgrade usb stick to do the full install... everything is there. All you have to do is add an ei.cfg file to the sources folder that tells it to install your particular version and either skip your key during installation and enter during activation or let it use the key already in your uefi. Works great and saves having to have a full install disk.
This is how I did it as I don't have an oem or retail install disk. -

I just don't see how thy get away with making you pay for it twice. I mean you paid for it when you buy the machine. They should provide a disc.

I have found some msata's from Crucial/micron, which isnt a no name brand in sizes up to 256gb. makes me wonder if it would plug in and work without a problem.

You guys should avoid buying laptops with preloaded windows OS.

I just saw the Asus G46VW and immediately fell in love! I am looking forward to buy this amazing laptop

Curious, anybody with a g46 having touchpad issues? Mines started acting wonky, missing touch pressures and skipping all over the place. Trying to determine if it's a hardware or driver issue. Its some odd branded touchpad I've never owned before.
EDIT: Appears to only be a software issue, so that's good! I'm still not sure what the conflict was, but after uninstalling Logitech Setpoint software that I had installed for an external wireless pointing device and the Asus Elantech drivers/gesture software, the problem has gone away and pointer function is back to normal. I'll tinker with it some more to determine which was actually causing the problem, but my gut blames a conflict of having both drivers/gesture softwares installed together. -

Anyone ran Battlefield 3 on this machine yet?

As a follow up to my previous post I have discovered the cause of the problem I was having with the touchpad: It was the actual electrical outlet itself in my home office. Must have a bad ground in the circuit. As soon as I plugged the AC adapter back into the same outlet I was using earlier when the problems started I had the same crazy jumpy erratic touchpad after I thought I had fixed the problem! Unplugged from wall and it worked perfect again. Moved to a different circuit in the house and plugged back in and touchpad still works properly while charging. My apologies for any confusion, I was quite confused, as the cursor was going crazy and I was trying to work ha... software/drivers were not the problem!
Now to troubleshoot the circuit in my house... always something! -
dunno my framerate tho ill check.. -

Like I said in my post though, with deals like this Lenovo IdeaPad Y500 Laptop: Core i7-3632QM, 16GB DDR3 RAM, 1TB HDD + 16GB SSD, 15.6 " 1920x1080, 2GB GeForce GT 650M, Blu-Ray, Windows 8: $836 + tax with Shop Discover, its hard to think Asus is putting out all of it self. I still would buy it and I'm one to wait till black friday to even consider buying any laptop, even so I think there should be mSATA,QM CPU,7200rpm at the bare minimum for 1k asking price. -

I did a fresh install of windows 8, will ATKACPI driver and hotkey-related utilities get my lights back on my back-lit keyboard?
The only driver I needed to install was ASUS Wireless Radio Control (A driver to make you switch Airplane mode(Wireless) On/Off)
They can all be found on the asus rog website on the asus g46vw download section -
I went through and installed all the drivers and just left off the Asus bloatware apps. Definitely get your chipset, audio, NVidia and intel wireless drivers updated. -
Oh, the auto detected drivers for my intel chipset isnt good enough?
-
Depends which version it installed, mine had a few basic reference drivers installed that I wanted updated after the clean install... I always like to keep the important ones updated. I'd recommend installing the drivers off the Asus page at this point with it being so new, they are pretty much all up to date except for gpu, get that straight from Nvidia.

I'm trying to disable my touchpad, I've tried the fn+f9 and it still doesnt work. I cant seem to find it on the control panel settings/options. How would I disable my touchpad? I'm using a wireless mouse btw, and when I type it gets in the way if you know what i'm saying

Have you tried installing the latest intel chipset drivers?
-
Ted@HIDevolution Company Representative
-
@Meaker - Thanks! I was planning on visiting Intel's support site to do just that and I had completely forgotten about it. Upon updating the Wireless Display driver, the proper driver was found and the service is now running perfect. All drivers are accounted for and everything is running smooth. I'm very happy with this purchase so far. Thanks again!! -
-
It doesn't actually matter, as I don't use WiDi currently, but it irks me as well ha -

I'm surprised they felt they needed a 180W brick with this device, and made no attempt to make a thin one to go with the thinner machine.
I suppose you could mod a thin alienware brick to the right cable to make it more portable... -
is that brick bigger than the one used with the g53 and i guess g73,, cause those are huge and heavy, was hoping that everything with the g46 would be more portable.
-
The odd thing is that's not the brick I got with my g46... I got a slightly smaller sleeker (more rounded) unit with different cables. Its smaller than my g73 adapter. I'll have to see what the model number is.
Edit: mine came with a FA180PM111, output 19.5v - 9.23A
Edit 2: see post #292, Coder posted pics of his, that's the one I got with mine. -
Found information above.
-
I'm just wondering whether a 90W brick would suffice to power this thing.
