That is perfectly normal on laptops and the wear can actually fluctuate so I would not be concerned at all about it.

Cool thanks.
-
Very good little tool a bit like coconut battery of the mac world and I see that this laptop is good on power it's sitting at 7W ish of discharge rate.
-
If others could check there battery with BatteryCare just to see how there's are dooing I would Appreciate it, just poste some info like mine is a 69XX mAh and has 2% degadation in one week.
-
Do you have particularly bad battery life or are you just really worried about your battery health? -
No I am fine with it I was just wondering as I am used to mac's and there batterys are much better I guess. Like my wife has an old macbook aluminium and it has 15% degadation over 4 years and 800+ battery cycles.
-
For comparison, I just loaded HW Monitor to check, mine is showing 2% Wear Level and 68398 mWh Full capacity. It has fluctuated from 2% (better than it was initially actually it appears) to 7% and back.
HWMonitor - CPUID - System & hardware benchmark, monitoring, reporting
Great program for monitoring temps, load etc as well. -
I noticed that when you use HW monitor to check battery capacity with 98% or 99% battery plugged in, it will saw more percentage of wear, when it's FULLY charged to 100% the wear is 4% but when i plug it in at 95% the wear was 8% ... the battery is fine

When it's out we should be able to install it in the g46 B140HAN01.2 Datasheet download - Panelook.com

1080P is a bit overkill for the 660M though... 1600x900 is a nice balanced load for it.
-
Should not be to to long is my guest as it was dated to be out by Q1 2013.
-
Hehe one upgrade to far?
-
nah, i think 1080p will work, i mean it's better to have more pixels available when needed, since we can set games on 900p or 720 if the gtx660 can't handle it. On the other hand you are pretty much stuck on that, to me 900p and 720p doesn't offer much improvement
-
And you are correct, performance wise we could always drop back to a lower res for gaming if need be. I just can't help but feel after using both current screens, the 900p is a great sweet spot for 14". I'm totally open to hear opinions when someone tries it, I know it will look great for pics etc. -
How much of a performance hit do games get when gaming at 900p? If any.
-
Gtx 660 is capable even at 1080 resolution. Don't you guys remember G55 and G75 with gtx 660m? Or lenovo y580 or msi ge60 with 1080 display and gtx 660m were all adequate.
Now i agree that 900p hd+ display is the sweet spot for 13-14" laptops but if the 1080 display upgrade has better color gamut, contrast ratio and black levels then it is a no brainer. -
I really want the 900p display but I am not trying to drop $100. Hopefully I can find it cheap elsewhere in the future.

of course 760M will be way better since 750m is re-brand of 660M. 760m should = 670m or better, I was thinking how did macbook pro survive it's 2880x1800 retina display.. if that's available i wouldn't mind installing it
-
Any idea on if/when this laptop is being refreshed?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Asus tend to keep their cards close to their chest if they want to on these, so nothing yet.
-
I'm excited to see the new G750 when it comes out as it copies the G46 design which I love, but honestly I have to say the G46 and it's size has been so convenient I can't see going to something else at this point... I was just finalizing a proposal on it on a jobsite on the center console of my truck for a customer tethered to my phone for data... hard to do that with a 17" beast ha
-
size matters
-
In this case...smaller is better.

Depends what level of performance you want, a small machine that overheats is not much use.

My main rig is in the shop, and I need a quick fix. This seems right up my ally. Considering that Bestbuy has it for $800 right now, and the fact that my main rig is actually used as a Desktop all the time. (What with all the usb hubs, and a monitor hooked into it.) It would be nice to have something portable. It's a good 2 weeks at minimum before I get my main rig back and I have nothing else with the power I need for school even (We use some specialized software that will bring my old dualcore laptop to it's knees begging. (Then again it doesn't take much to do so.) But anyhow,I am really considering this laptop, since my criteria are pretty much: immediately accessible, have decent power, not too expensive. From what I can see $800 is a really good price point. (Screen resolution isn't a bother to me much as I will be temporarily hooking into my 1080p display, I'm also used to the 1366x768 display as just about all the computers in the house except my main rig use this resolution. That and coupled with the gtx 660m it'll do everything I need for school and gaming while my main rig is being repaired. CPU seems pretty good too. I don't think the software will slow down much compared to my i73610m in the main rig. And is far better than a low-end dual core cpu that I am using right now.
My biggest thing is what is the opinion on this laptop. Considering the price point, and the fact that I can't afford to wait for newer tech or wait on shipping. (I am already behind in my studies thanks to my main rig going out.)
Edit: Thought I should mention, the best buy model for $800 has:
I5-3230M
8GB Ram
750GB HDD
GTX 660M 2GB
14" 1366x768 display
Windows 8 -

Look in the section on Bestbuy .com that has open box and clearance. In they're clearance section under laptops/tablets then Asus they have the first model which had just a slightly slower dual core (which will have 0 impact on gaming etc) for $664 brand new at a few stores local to me. Obviously every state and city will be different for inventory so your mileage may vary.
Heck of a deal regardless of what is coming soon.Attached Files:

Absolutely a no brainer for anyone looking at this model.
Also if you ever decide to throw in say a Quadcore or the 1600x900 screen those upgrades will be painless considering what you paid initially.
The fact this thing has awesome cooling and can handle bigger CPUs,overclocks great and has Optiumus for plenty of time away from the wall if needed this thing has just awesome overall value. -

Hey be77solo, i noticed that your sig states 1866mhz ram, does the g46 support ram up to this speed or does it just run at 1600mhz? thanks

Hey, was wondering if I can use the Windows 8 drivers to install Windows 7. I have run into a few programs that don't like windows 8.
-
You might be able too for some of them and if they are .rar files you can extract the driver then do a manual forced install through the device manager. If you are going to install windows 7 make sure to disable secure boot in the bios as well.

Probably F2 and if not then just pound the rest of the F keys till it pops up.

The 5400rpm HDD in this thing feels sluggish, thought an ssd would be awesome until I saw how much space I was using, just to make it worth it, I would need to get at least a 320GB SSD. Of course this laptop has no options for a secondary drive, so in all honesty an SSD is out of the question. Would this: Amazon.com: Seagate Momentus 7200 750 GB 7200RPM SATA 3Gb/s 16 MB Cache 2.5 Inch Internal Notebook Hard Drive -Bare Drive ST9750420AS: Electronics work? It is a 7200rpm with 2x the cache. I was also looking at the hybrid version ( Amazon.com: Seagate Momentus XT 750 GB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s 32 MB Cache 2.5 Inch Solid State Hybrid Drive ST750LX003: Computers & Accessories) with 32MB cache and an 8GB SSD built in. Though the difference is about $30-40. Trying to see if it would be worth the upgrade. Both are 750GB which that part is fine, just the speeds. Thoughts?
-
this laptop has Msata SSD port, SSD is an option. I'm using 120gb ssd for just os and games, with 10+ games installed and tons of video editing programs, i have 30gb left.
-
The hybrid drives are great alternatives if you are looking for fast bootimes and affordable.
I had the 750gb one for awhile and really liked it alot.
There are the SSD purists but if you are looking to keep costs low you cannot go wrong with the hybrid drive. -

Wow good find on the open box section on bestbuy, shows my local bestbuy has one of these guys in stock, open box for 664$. Returning my macbook pro retina and gaining 1400$ in my pocket sounds like a good idea anymore lol.

Little curios why they're putting these on clearance?? Is it just because the new one has the i5 with 3.2 instead of 3.1??
-
Well worth the effort however, it makes a world of difference in snappiness and all around performance. The stock drive is painfully slow as an OS drive, but, it works great as a d: for storage, games, etc. -

Thanks to everyone for the help. Now, to decide on an MSATA drive. What would be a good one?
Edit: I may put links to one's that seem good if/ when I find some, so please check my posting again later.
Edit 2: I actually found 2 off the bat that jumps out at me:
http://www.amazon.com/Crucial-mSATA...UTF8&qid=1369856674&sr=8-3&keywords=msata+ssd
or maybe
http://www.amazon.com/Mushkin-Direc...UTF8&qid=1369856674&sr=8-5&keywords=msata+ssd
I have Amazon Prime and such. Was thinking the 64GB, then thought maybe the 128GB may be nice to have for future updates and such. But I will have to see how my budget is before jumping on the 128GB. Thoughts on either drives? -
I highly recommend the Crucial mSATA drives as mine has performed great and I know it fits properly on our motherboards (not setup for proper mounting so have to get a little creative). I'd go for at least the 128GB as it will give you some fast storage space and still extra room for provisioning (SSD's often slow down when reaching full capacity so it's recommended to leave a little head room, of course not required and often debated
)
