    @JwPwns,

Hey bro! Nice hearing from you again!

I basically went to HIDEvolution and sent my laptop there, if you take a look at the configuration it states that it has both a 1600x900 and a 1920x1080 resolution configuration. I also upgraded my wifi card to the Ultimate 6300 for better performance over the stock card. The thing about the 1080P though is that it's an IPS panel. When I called them he stated that it's similar or maybe even exact as the panel found on the new AW 14''. BTW I bought the new AW 14'' but I didn't like it because it was way too loud during load so I returned it. I'm going to hold on to this beauty until hopefully Asus decides to do another revision. Hope this helps bro!

thanks! i didnt know they offer 1080p till i saw your post. Now it's time to upgrade my screen too! and you are so right about the noise from AW is unbearable once you are used to G46

    Hi everyone!!
I was planning getting a g46vw, and i wondered what kind of audio codec chip is installed?
In the asus support page there's VIA and Realtek... I'm asking because I had problems with VIA before (not the only one too, considering my google search :p)

unfortunately it's VIA and it's not very good. but I don't have any problem with audio at all. I would buy an external audio plugin if you are audiophile

It's not the worse though. It has ample power for headphones below 100ohms. The implementation makes a huge difference though. The g46vw has a great amount of noise on the line whereas my W110ER was dead silent.

So I found an adaptor that's much smaller then the one that came with these systems - 90W AC Adapter for Asus G46VW K55A Laptop Battery Charger Power Cord Supply New | eBay

I was told the dimensions are 5x2x1 (In inches), I find that really hard to believe because this is soo much smaller then the big brick that comes with the system. I was told that it works with the G46VW, does anyone have any doubts on if this is true or not?

I really want to buy a new power adapter since the old one is huge and this would make traveling a bit easier for me

I would get one from a trusted 3rd party, like the coolermaster range.

Getting those sorts of bricks off ebay could end you up with something unsafe and/or putting out huge amounts of interference.

    Cooler Master: USNA 120

Is the one I have used personally for some acer laptops, it's really a 110W adapter than can feed 10W to the USB too.

I would not touch a 90-Watt adapter with a 10 foot pole. I was playing metro last light and my stock 180 watt unit blew. I had to send it back and get a new one under warranty. Seriously, I would not mess with a 90-watt unit.

A 90 watt would force the CPU to it's lowest clock and wouldn't charge the laptop under a full load scenario. I fold/boinc with just the GPU with a 90 watt and it does fine. But I agree, don't use a 90 watt ;)

If you are going to mod one then the 240W dell slim is the smallest high power brick I have seen.

So um... what's the deal with thunderbolt? Did the G46 end up getting it? If so, which specific models? Do the ones from HIDevolution have it? That's really a deal-breaker for me.

Also, does anyone have any news on a successor with Haswell and GeForce 7xx? I'm hoping to purchase that one when (and IF) it's ever released. It would be pretty dumb of Asus not to make one, right?

Hopefully the successor does have thunderbolt as well, though :p

The model's I've seen don't have Thunderbolt. Maybe next revision (If Asus decides to do it) There was like news on the revision, but it still had Haswell CPU and 750M GTX I believe, not the 765M GTX. I forgot where the article was though, it like like a store newspaper thing from what I remember. Personally I think at the time, this was the best 14'' Laptop. Only bad part was the screen many of them came with which was the 1366x768 but you can upgrade it. Personally I have the i7 Ivy with the 1080p IPS panel.

Hey Nivaku, you got i7 haswell or that's just a typo? i'm really interested in that if it's true. They really need to release more information about their product lineups, if they decide not to make a newer version they should announce it too so we could upgrade with a different brand.

I got my unit back today with the upgrades. I did a clean install of windows 7, but I cannot find this last driver in my device manager called "universal serial bus (usb) controller)"

Does anyone know exactly which one it is that has done this before?

Is the 1080p IPS panel your talking about, is it a AUO model...? How did the install go, and how does it look. I'm pretty much maxed out on this laptop except the display is the last thing I need to upgrade.

Yes it's an 1080P IPS panel, don't know what is and how to tell if it's an AUO model. The people from HID evolution did the installation. When compared the stocked panel 1366x768 vs 1920x1080 the difference is quite a bit.

yes, i pulled it off an hp laptop and I tried with windows 8 and windows 7 but nothing's working so far

and i found this in my search about why the card wouldn't work.

    http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/wlan/sb/CS-031167.htm

Though i did see HIDEVO offer this card as upgrade for their Asus G46 i wonder how they get it work.. since i tried old n newest drivers for Intel 6250

i'm on 7, the ones it install automatically for me worked but then i updated it to the newest driver and it stopped working , I had to remove the adapter n everything, then install the newest driver before installing the adapter then it worked with the newest driver .. not sure why it has to be in that order but atleast it's working now

    Hi,

Does the Asus G46vw fit fatter 15mm 2.5" hard drives. I was thinking about putting in a drive with more gigas, like the WD Green WD20NPVX 2TB 8MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 2.5" Internal Hard Drive.
I had the laptop apart last week, but didn't check.

Has anyone put a 15mm drive in the G46vw?

I just thought about it.. Since there'll be a g56jr(might be a refresh of the g55) is there a chance that there'll be a g46 refresh late in the year when we see the high end maxwell and new broadwell? It's a bummer if asus completely shelved the idea of a 14" rog.
