Someone decided to leave a review of the laptop on the Best Buy site even though it hasn't been released yet haha... Hopefully it is what the laptop will be like though.
Does anyone think that the resellers would be willing to upgrade the screens of the laptop suppose if I bought it from Best Buy? Not sure how long I want to wait for this laptop to come out with the higher resolutions and the processor always can be swapped out if Best Buy doesn't get an i7 version.

The screen will be limited to a 1366x768 panel due to the cable.

Then you will need to source a new cable and display, they will remove the wires for the second LVDS channel for the low res version.
-
EDIT: It appears this model from earlier in this thread has TB, just no better screen option. Given the lack of G46VW reviews, I take it it doesn't ship yet?

I know sometimes models get released but availability can be delayed, especially in some regions over others. If Donald gives out information it will be the best he (and likely anyone else) has.
-
Yeah delays suck. Impatiently waiting for this laptop to come. Might end up having to get a placeholder for it until it is released haha.

The problem about Q2 2013 is its landing around haswell, so you might get a refresh pretty quick.
-
Haven't really been looking into Haswell. Whats the major difference between Haswell and IB?
-
Haswell is a new architecture, the first designed ground up to take advantage of the 3D transistor process that Intel pioneered in Ivy Bridge. The main draws are:
Confirmed stuff:
* Significantly lower idle power (competitive with ARM chips, more sleep states, faster resume from sleep states, system sleep for weeks at a time)
* 2-4x performance on integrated graphics
* Some new extensions which will make specific things 2x faster
* Native Thunderbolt support
* New TDPs (only slightly different so ultimately this won't change much)
Speculated stuff:
* ~10% better CPU performance clock per clock (as per usual Intel iterations)
* Probably some higher clockspeeds (nothing groundbreaking) -

So with a machine like this, you don't really care about the integrated graphics changes.
So refreshes are likely to be a bit more efficient, a bit faster but including a thunderbolt port. -

For the lazy that's about $1400. Would be reasonable if it had a better screen + TB, but non-US prices tend to always be a bit more expensive anyway.
-
Well its december id like to get some avalibility estimates CMON BESTBUY

Someone already got their unit from BestBuy and posted a review on the BestBuy site.

If you ask me, it blows the M14x out of the water in terms of price and performance if you're going to compare baseline units. Personally I'm just holding off buying until I get to try out one at the local BestBuy. -

The price is very good, if only it was $50-100 more with the higher res screen though.
-
Long time lurker, first time poster... i have been keeping an eye on the G46VW for a while, and it looks like it is available on Best Buys website today!
Unfortunately i am from Canada, and unable to get one yet! but! i am very anxious to see / hear some reviews of this machine.
Anyone out there had a chance to get some hands on time with this yet? -
Where did you see available? -

mmm not sure why but my last reply didnt post...
Just went to their website, put in G46V in the search bar, and it came up -
I think everyone else is referring to the fact that you cannot order it, and it says it's only available for in-store pickup, for which there are zero available stores to pick it up from. There are a few links to the Best Buy page in this thread already, but here it is again, just because.

Hey you guys, check this out BestBuy.com - Find It At A Best Buy Store
ARE YOU SERIOUS .....
-
Anyone plan on getting this today? Would love to see a review.
-
I don't think I'll bite on the 768p screen but I was thinking about going to a nearby store to see if it's on display.
If it is, would people be interested in pictures/impressions? I speak as an owner of a heavily modded G50vt/G51 . -
Yeah pictures/impressions would be nice. I don't think it will be out for display as of just yet since the stock arrived yesterday but it never hurts to take a look.
-
Good point. I'll call tonight anyway and see.
EDIT: I spoke with Josh from XoticPC just to ask if they had any info on the G46, and he said there is no news at all, officially or unofficially. He did of course know about the G46 though, and said the G55s currently are shipping with Thunderbolt (I think that's been covered elsewhere but I figured I'd ask).
EDIT 2: Called them, it's not on display yet. Ah well. -

Anyone have any luck seeing this thing in person, or any initial reviews? Still no love for us Canadians, but definitely excited to see some feedback on this laptop.
-
G46 is available all over my zip code in the Chicago area and available for pickup. Someone should have this by now and do a review.
-
Maybe everyone is waiting for the higher resolution screens.
-

I'm really thinking about picking this up tomorrow at my local best buy. How is the battery life looking now? If I can get ~5 hours that would be awesome.

)
GPU never goes over 63C God the cooling of this thing is fantastic! -
Thanks mate! Basically we cannot upgrade the hdd into an ssd and that officially turn me off about this laptop if we have to use some kind of special tool to open the special screws that Asus put in there!
