    Java script edition eh? :p

If you put g750jz into Google you get a variety of options.

I am not buying a new Asus until I can at least get a glossy screen from the factory. They already lost 2 generations so far that I would have upgraded to just for the cutting edge fun of it.

You can get the screen replaced at a reseller.

I don't care if resellers can replace the screen I can do that myself. It's been years now that I can't get one with a glossy screen just some matte turd to look at. Then there was the 3d screen hoax. Oh well unless this G75 dies I just wont upgrade. They all ready lost $3-5k in sales from me.

Just got the JM-DS71 last Friday from Best Buy in Melbourne, FL for $1133 out the door and delivered to the house. Traded in a 12 yr old XP laptop for $25 BB Gift card and a $75 in-store coupon (good only on a new computer), and used 10% coupon from USPS moving packet (they started adding them again 4/1). Had to pitch a fit in store and with email to corporate to get them to honor the $75 coupon, but eventually received full value. Can't beat being a squeaky wheel sometimes.

If you don't care for 120Hz 3D stuff and just want glossy, check out the AUO B173HW01 v4 panel. I'm using it in my Clevo right now and it's by far the most gorgeous screen I've laid my eyes upon. Not only is it glossy, it's also 90% gamut, so the colors really pop out like no tomorrow. (high five for glossy btw, seems like we're the minority as most people prefer matte)

Strangely enough I was going to ask how that screen looked. I was searching and couldn't find much. That's the one xotic sells in the np9377? I actually like glossy when executed correctly.

Ya I have been using the AUO B173HW01 v4 for years now. Replacing them myself. Really hoping for a new generation of screens that will be even easier on the eyes but am sure this screen makes anything Asus puts in there laptops now look like trash.

When posting benchmark videos have a frame rate counter on and go into the options menu to show the settings.

Huge Problem - G750JZ with "AUO B173hw01 v4 90% glossy" and "Intel HD Graphics 4600" + refresh rate

I just received JZ model with "AUO B173hw01 v4 90% glossy" (bought from reseller; default screen is matte for this model) - and its pain to look at, the colors is great, but when you look at the text(word/firefox..and so on) it’s Very hard to focus on it and after a day of using it I have headache. My wife also notice that something wrong with it. We both have Gateway FX P7811 laptops with 1980x1200 AUO V0 glossy screen for 6years now - so it’s Not resolution or glossy.

Default refresh rate is 60 Hz for this screen. And I notice that when I uninstall "Intel HD Graphics 4600" driver - from device manager, refresh rate changes to 64 Hz and Only then I can see text without any distortion and its sharp.
I think it has something to do with integrated graphics/optimus.
But at the same time when I uninstall "Intel HD Graphics 4600" driver - I can‘t change screen brightness at all - it stays at max.

Is there Any way to increase refresh rate to at least 64hz Or Disable/limit "Intel HD Graphics 4600"?

Hey everyone, I was hoping someone might be able to my question regarding the G750JM-DS71. I am probably going to order it from Xotic PC so I can get the "Glare Type" Super Clear Ultra Bright LED Glossy Screen w/ 90% NTSC Color Gamut (1920x1080).

My current laptop is getting pretty old but has a brand new drive in it I got as a gift (the WD Black 2 120GB SSD/ 1TB HDD. Does anyone know if the JM-DS71 comes with both hard drive caddys?

What I mean by this is that the last Asus laptop I bought was an G51VX-RX05 years ago (Core 2 Duo, 4GB of ram, GTX 260M), and even though it had two drive bays, the secondary by did not come with a caddy, so when I ordered my second drive I had to purchase the caddy to mount the second drive properly. I am just wondering if Asus still continues this practice or if the newer laptops actually come with a caddy to mount a secondary drive from the factory now.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Yes the last few versions of the G Series have come with both drive caddies even if you only have 1 hard drive.

Can you help me understand what eDP means for the future? I read up on what eDP means as an acronym but none of the sites I found would talk about why this move is good.

DisplayPort - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Embedded DisplayPort (eDP) 1.0 standard was adopted in December 2008. It aims to define a standardized display panel interface for internal connections; e.g., graphics cards to notebook display panels.[19] It has advanced power-saving features including seamless refresh rate switching. Version 1.1 was approved in October 2009 followed by version 1.1a in November 2009. Version 1.2 was approved in May 2010 and includes DisplayPort 1.2 data rates, 120 Hz sequential color monitors, and a new display panel control protocol that works through the AUX channel.[14] Version 1.3 was published in February 2011; it includes a new Panel Self-Refresh (PSR) feature developed to save system power and further extend battery life in portable PC systems.[20] PSR mode allows GPU to enter power saving state in between frame updates by including framebuffer memory in the display panel controller.[14] Version 1.4 is expected before end of 2012; it reduces power consumption with partial-frame updates in PSR mode, regional backlight control, lower interface voltage, and additional link rates; the auxiliary channel supports multi-touch panel data to accommodate different form factors.[21]

Basically it means you can reduce the cabling of LVDS which was getting up to 50 pins for 1080p 120hz, 3k would have been getting silly for example.

If Asus could simply have a 1440p option for the G750JZ it would literally be the perfect laptop... Since Windows UI scaling can't make 3K+ worth it yet.

Thanks guys on the eDP info.. I took apart my G750 to gain access to the internal ram slots and I removed the screen.. noticed the video cable was tiny.. Like a small rectangle plug that snapped neatly onto the motherboard.. is this eDP?

That would require such a panel to be produced, it is not so it's not an option for asus.

You're telling me Razer has 3200x1800 14" panels being produced and multiple other companies are having 2880x1620 15.6" panels being produced, but ASUS can't get 2560x1440 17.3" panels produced? Where is the logic in that?

Hey all apologies if it was addressed earlier in the thread but I'm in the market for a new system and I'm curious what sort of temperatures are you seeing from the CPU/GPU under load on the G750JS? (4700HQ/870m)

Panel manufacturers are making those so companies like Razer and others use them in their machines. The logic is the panel manufacturers like AUO, samsung and LG actually have to make them for the parts to be available. A single company like asus is not going to have a dedicated run.

For someone with sensitive eyes(like me) read this first(its my post on Asus forum):
G750JZ eye strain from screen flickering that is caused by low PWM frequency lead to eyestrain or headache.

G750JZ Problem Eye strain from screen flickering that is caused by low PWM frequency

with my New Asus G750JZ I have tried both screens: default screen that came with G750JZ is CHI MEI N173HGE-L11 (CMO1720)" and replacement screen "AUO B173HW01 v4 90% glossy screen) = they both have PWM Flickering

I even went to store to see/compare if my JZ is defective - but its not (see video):
note: in the video you will see that I change brightness from max to min

-Asus G750JH-DB71 (with screen CHI MEI N173HGE-L11 (CMO1720)) = Flickering the same way as my new G750JZ (with N173HGE-L11 (CMO1720)" and "AUO B173HW01 v4 90% glossy screens)
    Asus G750JH DB71 screen CHI MEI N173HGE L11 CMO1720 - YouTube

-Alienware 18" = It has PWM Flickering, but NOT to much.
    Alienware 18 - YouTube

    -Toshiba Qosmio X75-A7180 17.3" (AUO B173HW02 V0 / AUO209D) = NO PWM Flickering at all!
    Toshiba Qosmio X75 A7180 17 3 AUO B173HW02 V0 AUO209D - YouTube

-Asus K550LA-MS51T 15.6" = NO PWM Flickering at all!
    Asus K550LA MS51T 15 6 - YouTube

Notebook itself is GREAT, but I don’t know what to do now, because I can stand flickering ...
I even bought replacement screen "AUO B173HW01 v4 90% glossy screen", but it still the same (see video that I posted on asus site)!!!

Yes we have been hearing about this flickering since the G75 models. I haven't been able to experience it with my Chi Mey none glare screen. I think hmscott pretty well explained it to all of us.

Do you also see the flickering if you have no artificial light in the room running? In some cases certain kinds of lamps can increase the seen amount of flickering.

Uhm, J S model is what I own, this forum keeps changing J S into the words javascrypt. That's not what im trying to say

I have the JS model, actually awaiting a replacement from amazon coming just tommarrow. I know my temps aren't good which is why I'm getting a replacement. But temps while idle should be 45-55c, gaming 65-75, rendering 90-95. That's CPU. GPU while ide wont really show anywhere except hwinfo at that's around 40c, gaming with 870m is 70-75c depending work load, and max ive ever gotten was 85c while playing crisis, and that was only momentarily otherwise ran around 80c.

My temps, which is why amazon is exchanging, idle temps 50-55c, gaming 75-85c, rendering 102c and thermal throttling. Gpu is same as above.

Ive also gone through 4 JM models with 860m before I got one that was tmep good and quality good. First JM had same issues as my first JS model, second and third the plastic around the screen was very wiggly and few keyboard keys were loose. But fourth one is awesome.

I use the JM for gaming as it plays high settings and runs cooler and its just awesome. Picked up the JS model strickly for video editing and 3d rendering. The added boost from 870m from 860m nets me about 10 seconds per movie minute less than than the 860m offered. When videos being rendered are hours long, and I do hundreds a week, that's a major difference.

If my budget allowed im sure the JZ would've been better. Also considering the MSI gt70 with 880m and 8gb gddr5. But heat/thermal throttle/fan noise are my issues. But if my next JS model comes tommarrow and has same heat issues as mine, ill just go msi. If im going to throttle and run hot, might as well get a 880m out of the deal. Asus quality is by far absolute perfect in my eyes. I love every aspect of it. MSI isn't bad, its just hot and loud. But if my JS is going to be hot and loud, no better off than MSI.

    Hope this helps.

Also theres an rog forum on asus website for the g750. They have so many great forums. Theres also a guy hmscott, ive noticed he is just on there answering like any question and very very good. He also holds the realbench score for laptops, with a asus 780m model. By a long shot to.

    Hey guy
Finally the G750jz is out in the country where I live and when I saw that it is "only" $1900 I ordered one as soon as possible. I think this was a reasonable price for a laptop with i7 4700 and GTX 880M 4GB and 2 year international warranty.
However it only comes with 8gb ram and a 1TB 5400rpm HDD. The ram is no problem, but my question is, can I add a SAMSUNG 120GB SATA3 2.5" 840 EVO MZ-7TE120BW SSD as a 2nd HDD or there is no room for a 2nd sata 3 hdd?

Also, would adding a 2nd hdd void warranty? My laptop will arrive next week and if it is possible to add a sata3 ssd, then I would order one before it arrives.

    Thanks!

8 gigs is great for the vast majority of users. You need to be doing something specific to need more.

I bought the G750JS at Fry's yesterday for $1550 before tax. It seems every store has a slightly different configuration of specs. This one is 12GB of RAM and 750GB hard drive with DVD-RW instead of blu-ray. After I decide I'm keeping it my first project will be to install an SSD for the second hard drive. I upgraded from a Dell XPS 15 (L501X model) that is 2-3 years old with a 420M, so quite a jump. It is my first 17" laptop so I'm still getting used to the bulk.

The display on mine flickered pretty bad out of the box. I think I finally have it solved and the inversion test shows no flicker at all. Also the colors looked very washed out and just general blurriness. This is coming from my L501X with the upgraded screen that was universally praised at the time. Here is what I did:

    - Removed the Splendid display program
    - Removed the Asus Power4Gear program
    - Updated NVidia drivers with the 'clean install' option checked
    - Calibrated the display in the Intel Graphics Control Panel with the following values:
    • Brightness: -10
    • Contrast: 50
    • Gamma: 1.2
    • Hue: 0
    • Saturation: 20
    - LCD brightness set 3 or 4 notches above lowest.
    - Installed Flux

The display is MUCH better now. When I first opened it I was like wow this awful and I was going to return it.

I am going to test out of a few games to see how the heat/noise is, since my primary use is on the couch on my lap one of the main reasons I bought this one was because it is supposed to stay cool. If that turn out ok the next step is to install the SSD and restore. I haven't done this on an Asus laptop before and of course it came with no install media. From what I understand there is a utility to copy the restore software to a USB drive, put in the new hard drive and restore from there, right? Any other considerations?

EDIT: Why does this forum convert J.S into JavaScript. Seems weird...

    Hi!
I've got my G750JZ and my question is, is ~80C CPU temp ok during gaming, like Crysis 3?
I tried XTU Stress Test and the CPU is around 80-82C under 100% load, isn't this a bit high? Also, is it normal that even under this temp the CPU FAN still run on 2300 RPM? The CPU fan speed does not change, same speed as during idle ...

Temps look fine. Once they reach 95°C I would be careful.

Something is really fishy here...I ran XTU Stress Test while plugged in and CPU RPM stayed at 2300, I tried the same on battery and the FAN speed increased to 3200 RPM, which meant -6-7C under 100% load...I hope it is just a software issue and not a BIOS issue.

Seems to be working fine now...but there is 1 more thing:
My G750JZ came with 3% battery wear level out of the box and after 1 recharge it is now 4%. Never have I seen a laptop with wear level higher than 0% right out of the box. Should I send the laptop back for a replacement?

That's pretty normal, it may just need time to calibrate.

Are you sure? I discharged a few times and it went down from 4,9 to 2,6, but now it is up at 5,2%...
