    Hi all!
How many external monitor can be connected to the gl502vm-FY015T (gtx 1060 model) ?
Technical support told me that it only supports an external monitor at a time...
But if it has two video outputs (HDMI and mini displayport), the notebook should not support two external monitors simultaneously ?

Tech support is ignorant. This supports at least 2 external displays simultaneously with the built-in display, for triple display.

If your laptop has a thunderbolt port, you might have displayport alt mode, and be able to connect a 3rd external monitor with a usb-c dongle, for 4 displays.
Another guy above got 4 displays working.

officially, the gtx1060 supports 4 displays, limited by how many video ports you have.

    Some gl502vm's have tb3, some don't.

    depends on the region.

But if you buy a gl502vm-db71 or db74 in the usa, there's a good chance it has tb3.

tb3 might be disabled due to licensing issues on the 502vs. Or it may lack the controller altogether (using ASMedia controller).

Hi Guys. 1St week with my new GL702VM (ordered on Amazon.uk).

I have a little problem with GPU temperature using laptop for 3 hours no stop in hard gaming sessions.
    Gpu reaches 87C degrees.

So i bought an Aukey Cooling pad and now max temperatures are 83C.

What do you suggest? Undervolting ?

    I love this laptop .
    Price 1099£ for Black Friday.

Definitely undervolt if you have the time or a weekend to stress test this out.
I recommend Throttlestop tested by Prime95 + OCCT.

ASUS gave you their official but conservative answer based on available specification. Mini DP is the only external output available but if your model comes with other connectivity such as HDMI/USB-C then you can do more displays with those.
If the unit does not come with those connectivity, you can also go with DP MST hub which gives you more DP ports (up to 3) such as this one below.
[ mDP to 3x DP MST hub]

    Hi all,

Just bought an ASUS GL702VM. Unfortunately, it appears to have a 'blotchy' screen across the entire panel - most noticeable on a flat color such as light blue - it seems to have a cloud like appearance across the whole screen. Its even noticeable in normal use, particularly during up/down motion in games on certain color backdrops; its also really obvious when moving across the ocean in google earth too. I've been reading around, doesn't seem to be a common problem, has anyone else had this issue?

I've already put in for an RMA, replacement arrives tomorrow, hopefully this is a one off problem because other than that, initial impression is that I think its a great machine for the money. Very easy to switch out the HDD for an SSD and completely clean vanilla Win 10 install, simple to get all the drivers in etc. I'm coming from a first gen MSI GS70, which I've had for three years and has been excellent but the 765m definitely dated nowadays. Reason I plumped for the 702 vs the MSI GS73VR were a: this one is about 350-400 bucks cheaper, b: the Gysnc panel and c: I really like the fact that Optimus is disabled - noticed on my old one it stuttered a bit when switching between the two after Win10 install just when moving around the desktop, such as opening up the notification panel. I'm not concerned about battery life impact given I use this laptop as a portable desktop replacement between a lot of locations - its always plugged in as a rule. I think the speakers are pretty good too for what they are, with none of the convoluted soundblaster cinema/nahimic gimmickery.

I don't think the keyboard and ABS plastic deck is as good as the MSI's steelseries and all metal - but its not bad at all and as a function over form on a budget sort of guy, I will be able to live with it no trouble. I do think the highlighting of the wasd keys is somewhat pointless (who actually looks at them when gaming - everyone who plays knows exactly where they are), but no biggie.

Another quick question for anyone who might know.....I'm obviously going to drop the stock HDD back in before I send this one back. If I were to put my SSD straight into the identical replacement as is, do you think I would run into activation issues? Personally I would so, so am planning on yet another full clean install unless anyone else knows otherwise.

This is what I mean by the 'blotchy' panel - it even shows up on a photo:

I just got the GL502VS and after playing overwatch I checked hwmonitor and noticed my GPU gets to 82F and the CPU gets up to 93F. Isn't this uncomfortably too hot?

you guys check out the new bios update released on Dec 9?

updated thermal policy possibly helps overheating issues, at the expense of fan noise

I have the GL502VM model. I was hoping that this version would improve my temperatures, which are at the level of what has already been reported on this topic.

However, this new version is for the GL502VMK model.

Hey guys, I'm considering picking up the GL502. One question.

Are there a lot of issues with this model? I used to own a ASUS G74SX and I remember that I had a lot of issues, and even though I sent it to support multiple times, they never fixed it. Is the issue with ASUS support still that bad?

Hey guys i just bought the GL702VM.

I'm actually quite happy with the quality of the build and the surface tempts (bought Clevo p670 before and even if its internal temps were better, the keyboard area mostly WASD area were too hot for me). The one thing im not happy is internal temps of course.

Is asus released any bios update regarding to this? I mean i feel like fans are not working efficient enough to prevent noise i think? And do i need to repaste maybe? Or undervolt? :D If there is anyone who did undervolting and had successful results, can you share with me please? Im quite noob about it. Thanks!

About the Razer Core I do not know, but according to the official website of Asus ROG XG Station 2 the ROG GL502VM/GL702VM are compatible with it, and thus with Thunderbolt 3.

How bad an issue are the thermals on the GLO72VM? This was my pick for a new laptop, but my old one had nothing but problems with overheating and I don't want to go through that again.

You'd think that with one of the primary features ASUS advertises the "triple-copper cooling system", this wouldn't be a worry.

i cant tell about the max temps cuz im not a pro gamer that takes the laptop to the limit... but i can tell you that the third mini-fan is awful.. cuz just playing LoL at max settings (meh), there's a spot on the keyboard (where the third fan is placed) that gets hot.. it does annoy me, so idk about you though.... i guess its not letting the air out or something like that; circulating it back inside the laptop maybe..

I assume you are playing without V-sync? Yeah, running at 300-400 fps pushes the hardware beyond the limits of a AAA game.

For example - while playing AAA games on my GL502VT - I get around 77-79*C max on CPU and GPU

When playing CS:GO or a Moba at 200-300fps - I get 85-88*C max. Surface temps are also higher. Noise is largely the same.

i think v-sync is on? i never tinkered with that since i bought my laptop.. though yes i do get that weird 300 fps :/

but my temps are usually 65-69 for both the cpu and gpu.. i have only reached the 75-80 once (i think it was 80), and that was Overwatch..

i'm still a rookie.. probably even less, since i bought my laptop i did not tinker with any settings or so; i've read about people undervolting to reduce heat & power., fixing audio settings and so on...... i don't know about these :D

actually that brings me to a question, is there any way to get full cpu/gpu power while on battery only? even if that meant getting 1 hour on battery?

EDIT: well not full power; im not greedy, at least the half? im happy with 20%... cuz when im on battery, the gpu is mostly idle (139 mhz) even on graphic intensive programs.... and i got this laptop for its portability... >.<

Just set the power plan to Maximum performance and tinker a bit with Nvidia CP's settings. That should generally be enough.

after reading your comment i went to tinker with the Nvidia CP's settings but couldn't find anything... googled it, turns out it was hidden in the battery's power options.. i feel stupid cause i probably looked there for more than 10 times but i didn't click on "Show addition plans" -_-

Thank you for your help ^_^

Now i have to read more on what should i tweak to get the most out of this laptop :)

There are settings in the Nvidia Control Panel for the GPU, the ones in the Windows Power Plan are for the CPU - not the GPU.

Under Nvidia Control Panel 3d Global settings, there are 3 settings to play with:
    Nvidia Manage 3D Global settings.JPG

Multi-display/Mixed-GPU acceleration => Single Display Performance mode

Power management mode => Prefer High Performance (not Adaptive)

Texture filtering Quality => High Performance

That's an older screenshot, you may have other new performance options in newer Pascal driver versions.

Check the "Programs" tab in the Nvidia Control Panel too, make sure the application settings aren't overriding these settings.

    done, thank you.

2 questions if you don't mind:

1- for the power management, does that only apply for when the laptop is not plugged in? as in, if it was plugged in, will it work on higher clock speeds and cause even more heat emission than necessary? pardon my rookie-ness...

and question 2: i couldn't find what you mention when you said "Check the "Programs" tab in the Nvidia Control Panel too, make sure the application settings aren't overriding these settings."

should i select every application i use and change the 3 settings you mentioned previously to "use global setting"?

    thanks

Depending on the laptop, when you unplug and run on battery you will likely run on the iGPU, so the dGPU Nvidia settings won't apply.

I always check for Application settings in the Nvidia Control Panel 3d for new apps I install to see what the default settings are, mostly they are already set to the "Global Settings" for those options, or forced to the best performing option already.

The Nvidia 3d options to Prefer High Performance keeps the clocks high for the GPU just like the Windows Power plan options for CPU Min/Max 100%/100% keeps the CPU clock high.

It's also good to realize that keeping the GPU clocks high all the time will have the same effect as keeping the CPU clocks high all the time - extra heat and power use causing higher temps and likely more constant fan activity.

You may find it helps to run Global settings for power saving / quiet operation - and to set only the apps you want to use High performance in Program Settings. :)

And, to run an app that doesn't have those High Power settings - instead has Adaptive set - to reduce the GPU clock even after exiting the High Performance GPU application - the clock may not drop even then.

i did not get the last part... do you mean after exiting an application that i've set to use high performance; i should open and exit any app that i've set to "adaptive" to like.. update the gpu and reduce the clock speed? o_O'

thank you, temps while using chrome solely were 60-65C..... and even restoring the settings did not help. (at that moment i did not want max performance anymore.. just the silence of the fan)

thanks for the tips ^_^ i restored the Global Settings to the factory settings, and changed the 3 settings you mentioned on Program Settings only for the apps that do require high performance.

Have any of you put Linux on the GL502VM? Did you have any issues?

Also, what's battery life watching videos? Forgive me for asking a question that's probably already been discussed elsewhere in this thread, but I'm somewhat concerned about battery life with these new G-sync (no Optimus) laptops.

Is there a BIOS option to switch back and forth between G-sync and Optimus like in the new Clevo models?

I have gl702. So i had usb cable attached to my laptop so I can charge my phone but it wasnt used right atm. I accidently touched the tip of the usb felt a bit static electric then the laptop immediately went dark. Tried turning it on nothing happens. Unplugged and plugged the power again and I dont even see that orange light.

I am scared...have I accidently fried my laptop? What is going on??

static discharge does that sometimes. a misplugged vga cable has shutdown my computer before.

Open it up, disconnect the battery cable and power cable, hold down the power button for a minute.
then reconnect the cables, try to power on again.

Had GL502VL for 9 days and 1060m died. It was getting so hot while I was just playing Civ6. Good thing is that I got my money back from harvey norman, but cannot recommend that model.

is it really useful to turn on g-sync? I've read around that it isn't so useful in laptops...

I've had a horrible first time experience with it because turns out game is not optimized to use it..

also, if i should use it.. do i have to turn v-sync off in the Nvidia control panel?

    thanks

I have this model, bought it on Amazon. The hardware ID is lgd046f. A quick google search suggests it is an LG made IPS panel.

I brought the GL502VM less a month. But I also have the issue that the screen turning off after the "ROG" has shown. I had to press the power button to make it into sleep mode. I look up this issue, some people said it is the driver issue of bios and GPU. So, I uninstall the GPU driver and download the one in asus official website.

    I am still testing.
