They don't even know you can properly overclock CPU's in laptops, it seems.

Asus provides the 7820HK OC'd to 4.4ghz for every GX800, pretty good actually :)

I was suggesting there might be headroom to test for beyond 4.4ghz.

Unfortunately the chips that are being used already user super high voltages. This is basically a way to not have badly binned processors goto waste and at the same time have something to use in portable systems. And in order to cool them easily, go bare die and dump the IHS.
Add to that they need to setup voltages in a way that can be used in multiple units en mass.
Even in Linus's tests he had throttling under water.

So no one has managed to fit laptop and water dock into the suitcase correct? so suitcase is only for Dock and PSU's?

    What are you talking about?

The water dock has a spot in the case just the same as the PSU's and laptop. There are slots for all the pieces required :)

Asus also provides a backpack for carrying just the laptop and PSU for lighter travel.

That would be silly for Asus provide a case that big and *not* fit everything in to it :)

There are mostly GX700 photo's of the case open with all the parts in them, but it's the same frame / setup.

The laptop and PSU fit on one half of the case, and the other half of the case holds the Dock. There are cut-out's in the foam for everything.

The GX800 case photo looks different than the GX700... maybe you are right, but I sure hope the laptop fits. What's the center cutout for on the non-dock side if not to make room to slip in the laptop under the foam?

    160427-asus-rog-gx700vo-water-cooled-gaming-laptop-6.jpg
It looks like you need to remove half the foam on the dock side to fit the whole dock / base into the case and then put the half foam back over it, so maybe the same for the laptop side - the whole foam pulls up and you place the laptop in then put the foam back over the top of the laptop and the PSU fits on top of the foam.

Good point, i cant seem to find any videos of the GX800VH, but with teh GX700 , the case fit everything IIRC.
With the GX800VH however, seems like on the dock and bricks go into the case. Which is weeeird, having to carry the laptop separately in a backpack.

I can't figure out what they were thinking with this suitcase foam on the laptop side. The cutout in the center doesn't seem to make any sense at all.

The foam cutouts don't seem to make any sense, so I'm hoping that there is a simple explanation or misunderstanding. I've escalated my case to a "supervisor" who claims to have a video showing the laptop inside the suitcase. I want Asus to update the foam if it isn't correct. We didn't pay $6,000 for this laptop to have to resort to DYI.

It seems to me that if the suitcase was really meant to only hold the dock, they could have made a much smaller suitcase and included space for both power supplies etc

welcome! Yeah I haven't tried the case yet, but I wouldn't want my laptop in there even if it could fit. Besides that, this thing is still a blast. No issues to report, besides nvidias horrible driver releases.

So when I turn off the display on the GX800 with the function F7 key, they screen goes black but the backlight turns back on with the black screen. Anyone know what could cause this? It was working fine before. This defeats the purpose of me saving the backlight when I'm not using it. Thanks

How do I get access to the top side of the motherboard after removing the bottom cover? Do I somehow remove the keyboard from the top, or do I need to completely remove the motherboard somehow?

I just want to replace my SSD's, but don't know how to reach the third one.

Just download and open XTU and go to all controls. Then core voltage, I run the slider to about about -0.125 to -0.150 and all core multipliers at 40 to 44 depending on the clock I want. Hit apply and make a profile name for it. Every time I boot my PC up I open xtu just to make sure the profile is sticking. Verify voltages are changing with CPUZ

Actually I would expect it to be offered by Costco, They handle Asus closeout hardware as well as try to get hard to find top end stuff while it is new as a service to their customers.

It's a great place to buy it, not for service of course, but for returns - used to be essentially endless, now it's less - 90 days for computers - which is awesome :)

End of line closeout's, same for TV's, Stereo's, Monitors, Desktops, not just closeout's - fresh new stuff too with less of a discount.

It looks like the GX800 is somewhere in between. :)

We are still on 1080 - and CPU's are still Kabylake - Coffeelake is delayed till next year for laptops and desktops, only ULV first - there is supposed to be a Kabylake refresh instead, but it won't be much of an improvement.

Asus might rev the hydro-cooler and case / display again, but haven't heard anything about it.

It might be that Costco is a good place to showcase the GX800, with lots of foot traffic, but for the most part the Costco PC areas don't have many demo stations.

    Anyone seen a GX800 in a Costco...?

Yeah, typical for high end models. You used to be able to order through the store and have them handle receiving, then you can also return through the store too.

Here's a good example of a Costco closeout on a discontinued laptop:

    https://www.costco.com/ASUS-ROG-G70...---8GB-NVIDIA-Graphics.product.100309991.html

It's the one with a 980!! That model has come out with a 1080 too, but Costco doesn't list it.

BTW, these offers usually don't last too long, Costco sells out and moves on to the next "pallet" of boxes :)

This thing comes with 1 or 2 quick disconnects, so you could modify your own and attach 2x D5 pumps with a dual top + Mora3 along with 9 120 or 140mm fans?

The QDC ports look extremely proprietary to me from the videos I've seen

I reckon it'd be much easier to open up he dock and just cut a tube to divert the flow through extra rads/pumps

But it comes with a built in screen+keyboard! Only the extra cooling system is being modified and it runs fine even with the watercooling system detached. The cpu+ both gpus are cooled by both water+air. Unfortunate that they don't include a desktop processor in these.
