Yeah, they did this when they launched the G51.
Sounds like the date is getting pushed back due to other resellers not being able to get their hands on them for customers. Asus really hit a homer with this laptop and price.

The sku and price in best buy's system... -
Well, let's hope for the best then!
-
Not sure if everyone saw this edit to a previous post, so here goes again:
Just got back from my local-to-work Best Buy, they saw the 4/4 date for the -05, the information in the system for the -09 (available on-line only) read the same as the -05 (i7/6G/500G) but with a 15.6" screen size, in my mind an obvious misprint. If I understand correctly, if it was a 15.6" screen, the model number would be G6x, right?
Maybe I will try to get an A1 thru Best Buy for Business, if I can use my BB credit card and get the 18 months same as cash - anyone know if BB4Business will do that? -
-
Yeah all G73 models are 17" laptops.
-
-
Really!
Any idea what your getting spec wise other than it's a ASUS G73?
Your a brave man.
I would at least like to know exactly what I'm buying before throwing all my hard earned $$$$ there way. -
Can't be that bad of a risk. The specs are on the side of the box when he gets it and if he doesn't want it at that point, he can just return in store (I assume).
-
Maxx you took the plunge awesome! cant wait to hear back from you when you get yours
.. I may be next
-
Yeah, I really would love to see what the final specs are.
We need a review and pics as soon as you get it...lol -
i am on my 5th laptop since july 2009 from best buy and i want another replacement since its been in now three times for the multimedia card reader sticking and bad keyboard, wifi, nic card, power cord, screen faceplate. So i want another new one but best buy says no i do not qualify for lemon since i only have the $99 accidental plan that does not cover lemon issues. I swear I will go to a television station and talk to them if BB does not fix the card reader this time. I should also be upgraded to something like the Toshiba witha quad i7 or the asus g73. The TOshiba was like $900 and not sure how much the G73 is. The toshiba only has 512mb video but has a quad cpu.
-
good luck.
-
How can you get 5 bad laptops!
-
-
I called bestbuy, i went to the store and nobody give me information, that is killing me!!!I would have ordered it too if someone had told/showed me something...so angry
-
-
Well, the brave soul Maxxmentum will hopefully be able to give us the low-down in a couple days. I do find it strange though you can order it, but the specs are still almost non-existent.
-
-
That's just rotten luck.
-
So G73 might be out on best buy website or selected stores by 4/4/10?
-
Several of us have confirmed our stores show it should be put out on display on 4/4 according to their computers. I haven't seen anything about the website yet, but I hope it does soon so we can see the real specs.
-
Got to work some OT now.lol
If they do come out on 4/4 I have a feeling these babies will sellout quick.
The waitings killing me now! -
-
Sounds good to me.
I'm ordering online for in store pick up. -
That better not be the price in the USA. -
Good find Ziggy. So we finally got resolution size - 1600x900.
I guess the only difference with the RBBX-05 will be 6 gig of ram and 500 gig hard drive instead of the terabyte. -
You missed one. Type of Keyboard: Canadian Illuminated Chiclet
-
-
Thanks Roy batty, find it from all the way from germany
i have a sister in london ontario, maybe i buy this laptop in my next jurnej if i visit my sister, maybe buy the us book, in Germany the book will cost 1800 - 2000 euro
-
If you get it from Best Buy do you still get the Asus warranty or are we forced to get the crappy Geek Squad service?
-
No ASUS warranty from BB, just the reg. 1 year warranty for every laptop they sell.
Unless of course you spring for the exta warranty. -
-
-
In Brazil it's going to be easily $3500 or more
-
This isn't adding up to me. We'll assume the 09 version is $1599 in the US, and all info is that the 05 version will be $1199(US). It seems that they would have to drop more than 500 gig worth of hard drive and 2 gig of ram for a $400 price drop.
-
-
-
Yeah, it's just weird that they won't offering 1080p on the 09 model.
I'll wait to see the specs of the 05 model, but I might just end up waiting for my local microcenter to get the X2 in. -
-
Reasonable guess mylowrider. How did the G72 best buy model stack up against the reseller versions? Maybe that will give us another clue of what's going on.

Okay I have good news and less good news...and dont laugh too hard news.
Specs: 1600X900 res screen, 500GB 5400 rpm HDD, 6GB RAM. Did not see bluetooth. Pictures dont do the case justice, it is very cool and feels good. Before the "event" I did play some champions-online on max, an unreal experience. The keyboard is sharp. Initial startup was a nice display. The box comes with no-specs on it, no docs other than a base manual and linux os manual.
Here is the warning: When you first start the machine and it boots it ask if you want to make a recover disk. Apparently this is not just for your settings, its your only recover. I saw the recover partition, but thats not the same thing. DOH!
Now for the dont laugh too hard: I thought..now I can put my windows pro on it. I did this without a second thought. Everything seem to work except sound on one side, and the turbo button. I played some champions and then decided to fix the turbo issue. Got no where, and thought I would just roll it back to factory spec. Thats the last time the screen came on...DOH! I finally called ASUS (good experience, even had good English), they recommended I return it for another one. My new unit will be arriving in 8 days. I will test it stock with pics for everyone. Maybe a youtube. For a brief time I was a god! -
Awesome. This turns out like we hoped with the 1600x900, 500gb, 6gb ram. I'll have to add bluetooth through a tiny $2 usb adapater from www.dealextreme.com.

Edit: Yeah, whats the CPU on that thing, thats the thing I'm most anxious about right now.
Edit2: I doubt there are any Windows XP drivers for the G73, at all? I mean the hardware is brand new + Micro$oft stopped printing up & backing up XP a while ago? It's all Win 7 from here folks! -
My bad. Its a 1.6 MHz which is why I wanted to get the turbo up and running. When I attempted to install the Intel turbo software I got an error. Said something about missing hardware. As for the HDD, I did not authentically check the spin rating, but on the genius score it had a 5.9, so I think its a 5400, there is room for a second HDD. With everything else in the 7's. I wanted take screen shots and verify, but then the "event" happen. The lesson I take away is do not fix your computer when you have been up for 23 hours. While it was functional it was a very nice experience. The deck felt strangely absent of extra buttons (except for the keyboard of course).
