    It's probably a 7200 HDD.
that's what mines gets in W7
So far we got 1600x900 screen res,500GB HDD and a i7 720 Quad.
    That's not too bad :)
I'm just wondering why the box had no specs???
Seems like a pretty good deal with all that and a 5870.
    I'll take it :p

YEA!!! Its the i7 with 1,6GHz Quad core. :) Fantastic. You've got the G73-RX05 right?

COUNT ME IN! :D That's a lot of "higher end" hardware for 1199$. Hope this will be available online. :)

    G73JH @ BestBuy Canada

I noticed that ours have them, and it says in stock. You probably can get it cheaper off of NCIX, though as they price match xoticpc (save 150$ CAD) - although then you have the wait time and paying for shipping ($30 for 1-2 business days).

I did notice the lower screen resolution at the BestBuy one, which I think someone noted earlier in this thread (Native Screen Resolution 1600 x 900). And it doesn't say anything about coming with the backpack or the mouse that the other resellers seem to offer - not necessarily a big deal, as I know most people already have good gaming mice (I have a Razer Deathadder) and a lot of people seem to be replacing the backpacks with something else.

It might be different in the US, though, as I know despite the dollar being almost at parity with the USD electronics are still generally significantly more expensive in Canada.

EDIT: Just noticed this was posted quite a bit earlier in the thread. Oops.

ARRRRGHHHHHH!! I just ordered a Toshiba Qosmio X505-865 from best buy today online. I had to return my G60 because my 14 days ran out. I spoke to like 6 different people in the store and they all told me that the G73 isnt coming untill there Reset in June. Even the manager said the same thing.

Well maybe it will hit in the next 14 days lol. I can always return my X505.

I actually like the idea of lower res screen. You all may be in denial but we all know that the 5870 GPU struggles to play high end games at 1920x1280. So in time it will really begin to struggle. I like everybody else would rather have lower res and full detail+high FPS. The full HD is actually what turned me off of the regular model.

The Toshiba X05 is a joke compared to the ASUS G73.
Plus it's one of the ugliest laptops ever created.
I would return it in a heartbeat.

As posted before, the SKU for the RBBX05 is 9741729. The SKU for the RBBX09 is 9743709, but their inventory system still has it as a 15.6" screen...

There are only a handful of games that the GPU really struggles with at 1080p, and they are ones that it will struggle with at 1600x900 as well.

And you don't have to use all 1080...I play crysis on mine at 720 to help framerates

    LoL! :)

Well I went ahead and used my 10% Discover card/BestBuy coupon today on my g60 (return/exchange) which now extends my return date from today to 45 days out ... hopefully these G73s will be in someone's hands for testing soon! :) ... then we can get some hands on from people here and that will help me decide if I'm going to exchange my jx for a G73 in the near future... I still have my eyes on this G73 RBBX05 - hopefully the specs won't dissapoint!

I thought someone said the G73 was available at Best Buy in Canada, but as expected you don't get the HD display. For me the display is the deal breaker that's what separates an awesome notebook from the common notebook. You can find a Toshiba with i7 and good GPU, but the display is always the meh, who cares factor that makes me say no thanks.

Fellow Canadians, I went out there and bought the G73JH-RCNX09 from Best Buy Canada. Here are the specs:

So what are the big changes vs. the A1/A2:

    -No Bluetooth
    -Blu-Ray Drive (A1 only)
    -1600x900 (usually 1920x1080)
    -Webcam 1.3M (Usually 2M)
-1 Year Warranty (Original ASUS warranty are much better)
    -No mouse/backpack

Now BestBuy sells this thing for 1699$. On XoticPC, you'll end up paying about the same or very close for all the above. It's a no brainer... Why did I do it, I got someone working from the inside! ;)

AFAIK, there are no 05 model in BB Canada's systems.

Can the asus warranty be upgraded? If so what are the prices? If these sell on ebay for $1595 minus 8% cashback= $1467 and the lower end BB model is $1200 plus tax (7% for me)=$1284 plus the cost to upgrade the warranty one year to match ASUS is there really a difference in price? If you could use the 15% cashback through BB than that would be a bigger difference in price. I have about $800 in a pitch in card for BB, I might have to get rid of that and get the ebay deal what is the opinion on that here?

Who says there isn't a choice? Universal health care means you can go to any doctor in the country, any hospital. *shrugs*

No insurance companies telling me I cannot be covered for pre-existing health problems, or not covering me because I went to the wrong doctor.

If you look at this video:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LMDN-LdhVTk

That should be what is standard on all G73. LED backlight is not mentionned... I stumbled on that:

    http://www.it-echo.com/2010/03/20/a...3-laptop-w-intel-core-i7-720qm-processor.html

Which at one point had me believe that I was mistaken but it also says 2MP camera. Which is most definitely wrong.

Drivers on windows are generic so, no chance of knowing if the panel is LED through drivers or model number.

I'd love to find out

    EDIT:

Oops, it's mentionned on the BestBuy website that it is indeed LED backpanel... Sorry for the confusion :D

Reasons to buy at Best Buy:

You prefer the 1600x900 screen over the 1920x1080 screen (not me).

You have BB Credit w/ 18 months same as cash but don't really have the up-front money for a reseller version (me).

The reseller versions are almost all a better buy, especially if you add in the standard 2 year warranty and Accidental Damage Warranty that most resellers offer thru Asus.

I think the G73BB is perfect for my needs. I don't need FHD resolution, 2x500GB HDDs, or 8GB RAM.

I was set on getting the N61 but this G73 has a higher resolution plus a stronger video card.

The only reason because it's cheaper than the CLEVO and other G73 models.
Only drawback on the ASUS is replacing components.
Let's say you find a good deal on a i7- 820/920 quad trying to replace it yourself is gonna be a huge pain.
It's extremely copmplicated for people that are a little reluctant to upgrade to begin with.

I'm waiting for BestBuy because there's just too many RMAs with this machine, I get the 45 days return policy with the Silver Rewards Zone, and most of all I can just drive it up there and grab another one if I get a lemon.

The return option is one of the key reasons, especially with silver membership. I bought a Sony VPCF115FM over at BB last earlier this month, it's getting returned do to the numerous problems I've been seeing.

Another is hands on touching of the system. Actually getting to see it, hold it, and see it's build quality makes a huge difference in purchasing something confidently.

I don't really *need* full hd ( might even prefer the lower res for a smoother machine ) but will the 5870 even need a lower res, that card should have no problem with 1920x1080. Or im wrong? Im just not sure if the $180 different between the BB model (plus tax) and the ebay one (minus Bing bashback) is even worth it? $180 for 500gb HD 2 GB ram 1 year extra warranty plus one year accidental and a higer res screen (again depends if that is a good thing) is good deal I think. I think my only problem would be getting rid of that pitch in card and how much I would lose there would have to be factored into the 180 difference.

Reality is that if ever I would want to game in 1920x1080, I could do it through the HDMI/VGA output but as for on-the-go, 1600x900 is more than enough and I'm pretty sure that the 5870 Mobility will have for the most part average capabilities at 1080p...

I'd rather sacrifice 2-5% visual quality increase in favor of 10-20% of performance increase. (Rough example)
