On a positive note, turning off the APM functions with HDD Scan seems to have worked, no more lag spikes so far. It's just a makeshift solution, of course.

To be fair, ASUS cannot really be blamed for a problem caused by a third-party component, if only they make available the firmware to rectify the issue to us oem customers.

Hey guys good news i got my hdd updated to sd24:
    Here what i did:
First i download the seagate updater ISO
    here is the link:
    http://www.seagate.com/staticfiles/support/downloads/firmware/MomentusXT-ALL-SD24.iso
burn the iso to a dvd and go to bios by pressing del , ajust boot sequence to use dvd.
When you get promped with a menu press control +c.
Run this command to force the update:
    fdl487a -m anak -f ansqsd24.lod -i st95005620as -s -x -b -v -a 20
It worked here and both hdds are working fine, no corrupted data ;)

A shortcut would be to press the Esc key instead of F2 to go into the BIOS. Pressing the Esc key will bring up a boot manager where you can select the Optical Drive...then press Enter and continue with the instructions above.

As I posted yesterday morning I knew the Seagate forums had a fix, just could'nt remember the specifics as I did not have to impliment them. The XT with SD23 fixed most PC's issues other than a few select MAC's.............

Mindtilt, I need some help with this. I experienced the lag yesterday while playing Batman:AA and tried the procedure you mentioned above. This is what I get (see screenshots - in order shown) and I am not sure where I should type the "fdl487a -m anak -f ansqsd24.lod -i st95005620as -s -x -b -v -a 20" command

Also, does anyone know if there is a way to enable the keyboard light via Bios. I didnt see an option in there and it is really frustrating to search for the keys to login in to windows.

The third picture you show is the firmware update menu. Press ctrl+c to break the program and enter the command to force the update.
The windows software(i think the name is ATK) controls the keyboard backlit you dont have a bios option to control it.

Thanks for the prompt reply. Still no luck. I hit ctrl +c, it asked if I want to terminate batch file and I said yes (see screenshot 1). Then it gave me C:\> command prompt. I did "dir" and the fdl487a.exe was there. I tried the command and got nothing (see screenshot 2). I tried again and nothing. Do you get any sort of confirmation?

As far as keyboard light goes, it works fine once the computer boots into windows. Lot of the computers, lets you enable it via BIOS so I was wondering if I am missing that option (since everyone is having driver issues).

    Thanks.

Are you using the dvd iso or the windows updater? You need to use the dvd ISO:
    http://www.seagate.com/staticfiles/s...T-ALL-SD24.iso

    You typed the full command?
    fdl487a -m anak -f ansqsd24.lod -i st95005620as -s -x -b -v -a 20

I dont remember if i got that confirmation prompt "yes/no/all" , try hit control+c again or just type enter and execute the command.
    Good luck.

I have a momentus XT and the way updarted to SD24 was simple.. i downloaded the iso image from seagate , burned the ISO to a CD disc which was made bootable using ImageBurn.. its an excellent burning software.. Than i restarted , press esc quite a few time and just ran the disc.. this works way better and no such command had to be typed.. try this.

I am using a CD and not the windows updater. I got the yes/no/all prompt after I hit ctrl+c but guess I could try hitting ctrl+c again after I get the prompt. Thanks for all the help. Appreciate it.

    Update:
    OK, got it to work. There was a typo in the command you posted and I kept trying that. It should be fdl487a -m anak -f anqsd24.lod -i st95005620as -s -x -b -v -a 20 and not fdl487a -m anak -f ansqsd24.lod -i st95005620as -s -x -b -v -a 20 :D

No problem. I am glad it worked. Now I am gonna test it :)

Ya that seem to have fixed the lag. Great tip. Thanks.

So, now that CES has started and the market is going to be flooded with tons of new gaming laptops from all manufacturers including the Asus G73SW (with sandy bridges), how many of your think we should have waited at least CES is over to make a decision on a new laptop? I am still considering returning my G73jw-3de but can't make up my mind.

The new Sandy Bridge model pre-order with 2 hdds (same as a1 model without 120 hz screen/3d emiter) was U$ 2500,00.
GPU is the same and i bet the new processor wont make a difference for gaming.
For sure its a better processor with integrated gpu, here is a test: i7 720 X sandy bridge at same clocks(The article is in portuguese)
    http://www.noticiastecnologicas.com.br/2010/08/comparativo-de-performance-intel-sandy.html
They said it have 20% more performance overall. If we compare with i7 740 maybe the sandy bridge outperform it by 15% or less.

Edit : Pre-order prices are droping...

Some games are cpu bound like GTA IV(and like you said dragon age) but that's not the rule , most games are gpu bound.

The Alienware M17x with dual graphics card, 3d capability and optional 120hz screen looks good and not that pricey. Toshiba and Lenovo also announced 3D gaming laptops I think.

    Hi.

Even with the new command line, it does not work for me.

When i type ctrl+c to break the program, i am not able to write yes. Is that normal? When i start to type "yes", before i have written "Y" a new line show up with "C:\". When I then type "fdl487a -m anak -f anqsd24.lod -i st95005620as -s -x -b -v -a 20", nothing happens.

    I know i have st95005320 and SD22 firmware.

I would appreciate any help, as i think this might be the help to fix the bloody spikes in SC2 no matter how low quality i put on.

Yes it's normal, just hit ctrl+c again when it gives you the yes/no/all prompt (as shown in the attached image) and you will get "c:\>" and you can type in the command. Nothing will happen if there is a typo or if the necessary files dont exist in the CD. Do a "dir" and make sure the fdl487a, anqsd24 etc exists.

I suspect a typo. Give it a try again. I was frustrated too but when I fixed the typo issue I mentioned in my previous post, it worked. The screen will actually tell you that the firmware is being updated. When it's done, turn the power off. Do not hit ctrl+alt+del or something like that.

Thanks for giving me hope :D

EDIT: Even with the new update, i still have lag, spikes every 30 sec in windows or in games. I am getting so frustrated!
I have set APM off, uninstalled P4G, updated to sd24, overclocked, then underclocked to test that aswell. Nothing helps! Does anyone have any advice for what to do next?

You patched both hdds with SD24 firmware right? Check with hddscan if both are with sd24 and run smart, search for errors. What bios are you using? make sure that you got the last one.
Go to windows powerplan and set it to high performance and select to never shutdown the hdd.HAve you tried a clean SO instalation?

    Thanks for the repons.
    Bios: 203 - 08.11.2010
Both hdds? I think i only have one. Hddscan smart finds no errors.
I have done the thing for the powerplan.
The only option i have yet to try is a clean instalation of Win. I guess i have to do it now then. One question, if the key under my computer is for the Norwegian version of Win 7, can i instal an english version with that key?

    THanks

Dragon Age gives me in the 90+ fps as measured by FRAPs with my T9300 core 2 duo extreme so the i7 will handle it just fine. In fact, my friend has the i7 and DA plays extremely well on her computer. We both have Alienware M17X, mine is the R1 and hers is the R2. I think I'm going ASUS G73 3D for my next laptop. My son, 15, is inheriting my M17xR1.

i tryed many commands and versions, seagate update and dell update but nothing worked.

here is an interesting thread for everybody how wants to try it on his own but i will wait now for an official release.

and i can tell you that the asus update is already done, its just not quality proofed and will release soon.

    http://forums.seagate.com/t5/Barrac...icking-noises/m-p/39419/highlight/true#M16853

the thing is that they know that there are these problems in the forums but they need model nubers and coustomer informations directly from you!

so please everybody out there call asus , tell them your modelcode and your name (same way as for RMA) and say that you got problems with the bios with the vbios and with the hdd firmware.

THIS WILL CHANGE THE SITUATION, NOTHING ELSE CAN DO THIS SO FAR.

ok got it working now (thx to ruckus)
i was very close to the solution yesterday and now i got it^^
the code was wrong, now please type

    FDLH -m Holliday -f 0005SDM1.LOD -i ST9320423AS -b -v

for flashing the 320 GB version of your Seagate Momentus XT HDDs in your G73´s.

but stay still tuned for the asus update wich will comesoon (i told you).
    maybe they change something.

I highly recommend you DO use Windows Update.

To keep driver updates from slipping in without your knowledge, you can adjust the Windows Update settings. I use these settings:

That way I can look at the list of updates before installing them.

Just to be clear, all the beta bios I am seeing are not compatible with the G73JW-3DE?

Unless I was miss-reading some post, it seems users have the same keyboard and touchpad problems with the G73JW-3DE and yet I see no beta bios for it.

Does the G73JW-3DE suffer from the touch pad and keyboard issues or not?

cucho's post is very incouraging. Mine arrived today and I'm afraid to even open it with all the problems I read about in my 3 week wait for it to arrive. All these messages I keep reading and I just want to see if I can get a refund, ship the package back without ever opening it.

I wish dell was a little more informing (I asked when them when an alienware with 16 gigs will be available...hard to believe they didn't know and 2 weeks later they have one). Had the current Alienware been available a month ago I would have just gotten that (at the time 8gigs of ram was the max i could get). The 30+ days for Asus to RMA is rediculous. Dell will drive to my office the next day and perform onsite repairs. Not really sure hoe they get away with 30+ day turnarounds, I would have to buy another laptop during that downtime, no way I could go 30 days.

Congraultions on your laptop, its sweet. After all this time I still do not have 3D working. I ask for an RMA and after 2 week Asus guys tells me "did you enable steroscopic 3D in the NVIDIA control Panel?" I was like, "yea i did it when i first open this thing". Couple days later got my RMA and sent my glasses in. Call Asus, guy ask me for RMA, I give it to him. Guy say don't have it yet. 3 Days later after the delivery date to them I call them again, they track it with the ups tracking number I give them. Guy goes "yea i think we got it but its not updated yet, can you call us back" This is Asus's customer support's favorite words "can you call us back"

Here the hibernate is working. I installed last atk drivers, idk if its messing with your hibernate, but it controls some special features of the laptop like the keyboard backlite, try update it and test again. With the old atk my backlite keys was bugged now everything is ok.
