Meh. I'll just play on my Nvidia desktop until Catalyst 11.6 official plus the 1.1 patch are both fully released.
Edit: Anyway, the patch just released, and it's a 9GB download for Steam users! Crazy. They must be replacing huge pack files.
-
Patch v1.1 is live: Home - thewitcher.com
go get em!!! -
FINALLY!
That is what I call a performance patch.
Same location at 22-25FPS now runs at 37-41FPS same settings!
Verrrrry Nice! -
^ just tried patch 1.1 absolutely no performance increase for me..
more disappointment..
@ dallers which version do you have? steam/retail or gog? -
I find the downloaded version paul.dll gives me much better performance. I own the game as well so dont really care. -
I can't get it installed :O it's says invalid game version or incomplete (something like that). I tried GOG and retail and it does the same thing. I tried deleting troll.dzip l(somebody said it fixes it) but still can't
-
-
Thats the only way I got it to work for me. It would always give me that same error you were getting when trying to run it from the desktop. -
Retail version, had the GOG paul.dll and .exe but tried changing them with the original ones and some I got on internet. I see there's many people online with that problem...
-
remove anyother dzips you may have put into the game folder too, you can put them back later..
so to recap..
1. make sure you're runnin the original exe and paul.dll which came with your copy
2. removed any dzips you may have put in including trolltrouble
3. run as admin/put in game directory -
It worked! The only thing I didn't try was to remove the dzips while the installer is in the game directory and it worked
EDIT* I am getting 30 fps with same settings, but I didn't check the fps at that location with latest version, I can't really compare. -
Load times have increased something special that is clear. Performance wise :/
I definetely am seeing better results than before the FPS are more stable and do not drop so harshly on average I see 5-6FPS increase in exterior locations but then I go back into the camp in Chapter 2 and it drops back to 23FPS.
I guess we are just going to have to work with what we got because I have held off as long as I can I wanna get back into the game before I lose track of whats going on! -
I'm getting way worse FPS than before (I have retail version and was using gog exe until I patched it). Don't get it, the exe should be the same now...
-
Holy crap!! HUUUGE performance decrease post patch. Steam version here. Serious downgrade for me. !! 9GB and it up my game after 20h of game time. I was running maxed out at 1080p (no uber and no vsync) contently at smoothish playability. I don't care about 30 or 60fps. It was playable ...maybe 15-20 all times. Now it feels like less than 10 fps.
-
Install AMD 11.5b hotfix. It did the job for me together with witcher2 patch. Like 5 fps increase (23-32 now without bigger drops like before in the camp)
-
Will test this weekend as I've no time today
In like 33hours we will know more ^^ (9am friday morning here - Belgium)
Btw; in the comments on the witcher website, there are many others who complain so... we should "stay tuned" -
Still unplayable for me. The patch didn't change much. I'm getting 20-35 FPS, in battle I have huge jumps from like 28-32 to 15-19, it is about 21 on average during a fight. It is not acceptable (for me at least).
-
didnt care to scan this whole thread or be flamed for making a new one.... but did anyone get a chance to play this on a g73jw? i have one and this game looks awesome but would want some real life testimonies before taking the plunge and buying it.
-
However even on ATI it runs good enough for me and the just pure outstanding graphics and storyline make up for it. Embarrasses Dragon Age 2. -
i loved dragon age 1 but never bothered to get 2 after i played the demo for the second one. but you think i'll be able to have it playable and even have a little eye candy on the g73jw even at 1080?
-
Check out my screenshots and settings on this page and that is on my ATI so you will have no problem with an Nvidia card people have said they get better frames with the new drivers we are still waiting for our proper fix, even so I find it runs perfectly acceptable and half the time im just standing around gawping in awe at the beauty of the game - again see my screenshots
1080p does seem to lower people frames because of the bandwidth limitation but your 460M should overclock well enough to make up for it, personally I do not buy into the 1080p hype so for me its a bonus running at 1600x900. -
oh wow. if i can get those settings on 1080 i'd be more than happy with frames above 30. thanks a lot dallers
-
I would have happily paid twice as much for this game for the effort that's been put into it. Its a proper RPG. -
yeah...I realized that ubersync was enabled on my card which was why performance thrashed...once I disabled...it feels a bit smoother than 1.0.
Also got to pop in and say that yes...this game makes DA2 looks like stupid and trivial. Witcher 2 is amazing. -
I don't personally own the game, but I read many controversial about the settings. Here I found some analysis by Gamespot in which they compare low-med-high-ultra settings. I must say there is no difference between high and ultra, and even low looks terrific.
Here is the link:
The Witcher 2: Then and Now - Page 3 - Features at GameSpot -
I second that Nekki...Though Im not too sure about Low or Med as I've never tried them.
After playing countless hours on High (Motion Blur, Bloom, and US disabled), I decided to give Ultra a shot, and Ive played on it for about an hour or 2. Other than about a 5 or so decrease in FPS, I didn't notice a significant difference at all. Im already amazed at how well the game runs on High considering how fantastic it looks. -
about 1600x900 and 1920x1080
1600x900= 1.440.000pixel
1920=1080= 2.073.600pixel
1.440.000/2.073.600 = 0.7
if u got 30fps in 1600x900 it means you will got 20ps in full HD 1920x1080. is that correct? -
I have the G73JH i7 740qm and the 5870m or whatnot. I purchased The Witcher 2 from steam the other night. After downloading and playing I can't even play the game on the lowest possible settings without hitting lag and some choppy moments. What the hell? Is it something wrong with my computer. Its still playable but highly annoying.
-
have you checked if any update is available for the game? (even if honestly, steam should have patched it already)
which video driver are you on?
Have you try to lower the resolution? -
Okay, texture memory size made a noticeable difference for me. I had it set to medium, cause that was the default for high (I think), but I just switched it to large and things appear to be smoother. I bumped it up to XL and I'm not sure it's a huge difference from high.
-
BullDogJoe try running the game at medium or low spec. Like somene has already said there aint much difference. Once you get into Flotsam River town the framerate will pick up quite alot. Dont
worry about certain areas (eg. Leaving triss' tent at the start of the prologue, entering Flotsam main square, etc) the game is very badly optimized. I have found that between 25-40 fps are acceptable
on medium. I can imagine you are adjusting your settings and then playing the game with a previous save and getting annoyed cos it doesnt run 100% smooth, quitting, changing the graphic settings
then reloading the save again. The devs at CDProjekt or AMD will bring out a fix but when that is you will probably be on your next playthru. LOL.
A good tip i have tried is to not use the options tab to set your graphics, but to copy from your 'profiles' folder all the default low spec 'rendering' values to your 'user ini' file. As you probably know
these are located in the 'Witcher 2/Config' Folder in 'My Documents'. -
I disabled ubersmapling and AA. My game is up to date. MY screen resolution is 1600 x 900. And my video driver is
Ok, . Now when I start the game the world wont load. I can walk around but my character is invisible and everything is orange and lightly outlined. The WORLD WONT LOAD?! -
-
Whats the CCC? Catalyst control center.. Or something? Sorry, I'm not Computer genius. Lol
-
-
It's the AA, that's what gives that affect. Once you mess around with that in the CCC everything goes to nuts.
-
-
Oh, I just set it to Defaults and everything works fine now. Thanks Tijo and BaggyBizzle!
-
-
Also it's like people say, you often get between 25 - 40 FPS. But for me that's perfectly playable and the game looks great!
Only problem is that it's damn difficult...Witcher one was "easy" if you fought against 5 - 10 enemys at once, you could take them all... while now in chapter 1 that's impossible... you have to take them one by one... which is hard when they keep standing together ^^
Q -
Wait...did I miss something? Apparently theres an update to the game, as well as a new hotfix gpu driver??
-
-
You need to update to patch 1.1 manually -
Dallers: Ever look back at your 720qm thread??
Thanks QuZyX, Ill look into it -
I want some of this 900/1150 malarky!
That 1.1 patch does not improve the performance of the ATI single cards nor the 11.5b hotfix it only fixes crossfire thus far and some people have even seen a drop in peformance. I tested between both and the only improvement I see if from the lower end FPS but I reckon thats my CPU overclock helping. -
actually, the update + the hotfix allow me to have 30 fps+ now with better settings than before i update
happy \
/
-
Meh, the update does nothing for me. Same old 20-30 fps
-
Updating the game and drivers got me lower fps
-
The poor performance all hangs on the config tool coupled with the user and render.ini files. The option to use the config tool before the game launches, produces many bugs and that needs to be sorted out before we see any big improvements, eg. some values are not written to these ini's when you enable/disable certain graphical attributes. I don't think its the drivers for the GPU or the G73 in general at all. It will never run smoothly until then unless you are one of the lucky ones or a troll. LOL
