That's great! Except, when I sent my machine in for RMA, they took away my GSOD-free GPU card (while swapping the mobo) and updated me to 211. What a joke.

Long time lurker, first time poster...

I registered so that I can take advantage of the "special deal" we will all get for beta testing the G73 for 4+ months (at least for me). Some users/owners get access to "newer" beta firmware/code.

I thought I would toss my hat into the ring. Experience? Well, I do possess a crippled G73...and have tried many half baked ideas, but have not been creative enough to come up with my own...I HAVE managed (somehow) to keep quiet and let the pros work their "magic".

I figure I can get my post count up into the thousands by just joining this thread.

Please PM me with the details on what I've acquired.

    Regards,
    SHAKEn (not stirred)

That is also bad news for the current G73 owners, since they probably won't stock parts and have to order from Taiwan :(
Hungarian shops were out of stock for a few weeks, but recently got new shipment...the price is very friendly too, the stock (bluray,720QM,8GB RAM) unit starts at $2475 (EUR 1950) :D :D

    Buona Sera Italia!

There is a fix for your problem in the works as I type. If your machine's BIOS is not 209, I would upgrade it to that, since the fix will require it. If you do not know how to flash your motherboard's BIOS, I would suggest getting some help on the matter, since you will also need to flash your video BIOS as well. I'll be posting a general How To for this fix shortly.

Will 211 people like me have to down-flash back to 209, or are there plans for a compatibility fix?
Also, you should PM me that beta vBios. /winks

I've twisted Gary's arm, and got him to let me release the vBIOS, since a working config has been worked out. Mind you, this is not final, but at least you can play without some Gary Screen of Death's mucking you up. Batman AA has been running here for almost an hour (first time ever!) with no overclocks, so Gary left it to me to leak, or not. So I'm making a package, with a little batch file to install it. I'd start making your Bootable USB flash drives if you haven't already.

In the meantime, I'm working on enabling Overdrive.

PS - what's with the damn monocles??!

Couple pages ago. Frustration lead to tea, tea lead to monocles, and it's all history from there.
But what about the bios still? Back to 209 I assume?

Welcome to the forum! My name is Kaelang and I'm ahead of you in line.

Good to hear, Chastity. I'd be interested in trying it out myself just to see if the new vBIOS is stable on a presently stable g73.

No but seriously Chastity do make this clear so we dont have any unnecessary complications, can the 211 bios be used with this vBios or must you have 209?

Ya question is how long? Seriously , if this how can ATI/ Asus screw up so much if 4 other companies have it working? Anyways , idk.. i'm cooling down..

Same here.. u won't get rid off me but i'll shut my trap and have less tension waiting..

its not ken's fault.. it asus's and bloody paypal's fault for taking so long.. and trust me , u don't know how it feels to wait half a year...

anyways, i hope something proper comes out.. a lot of ppls blood pressure will go lower including mine.... and ya how do u make a bootable USB stick? I don't know :D... i've got a stick but no idea.. just preparing.. to ensure no GSOD when i use it for first time ... :D :D :D and also is there guide to update the BIOS?

ATI cooked the vBIOS with 209 in mind, and Gary's Squad Of Decoders confirmed that 211 broke the compatibility, bringing back Gary's Screen of Death.
I would assume that a later BIOS release will be the easiest way to fix this.

As you may have expected, I've been going nutsy doing all these mods and tests and tests and tests and ....

Indeed. Best Buy has an amazing return warranty these days. I had a G73 from there for a bit, until I got a working 1080p replacement, and then I decided to return the BB one instead of trying to sell the 1080p model used.

I actually got 2 defective G73s from BB tho. One had a bad LCD with a stripe, and another refused to see all of its RAM. They don't even blink at getting you replacements for any reason.

I've personally used 5 separate G73s and 3 of them had a defect of some sort. Only one had GPU problems though.

I rolled back to 209... Now just waiting for the vbios. This is exciting in some weird way. The other day i was asking myself why don't we have fan control in the vbios. Then it hit me, there is no fan on the card. Felt so stupid after that...

14 days is still plenty of time though. I usually find problems in a couple of hours at most.

So IF I ever get my laptop from RMA and IF I will get GSOD, I should upgrade BIOS to 209 and use this new vbios so I can use latest Catalyst 10.8 without any problems(HDMI working with this new BIOS installed?)? Except Mafia 2 right? :D

That would satisfy me. I'm lucky though, atm, I don't play games yet due to school and stuff. I have a feeling that If I played, I would be like the guy who is complaining the most on this tread xD

Also, GSOD is not a hardware issue to whoever said that. Its already been confirmed that its an issue with the vbios.

and finally, I just want to say this... I love asus. I love this laptop. Its awesome and will be perfect with the new vbios update. Not much can be done to those who have waited 6 months for a fix and couldn't even have fun playing because of GSOD. But I still feel like if this thing didn't have any issues, this thing would blow the doors out of any laptop thats out now.

You guys would do well to remember that

with that said - WE WANT AN EXTRA 1 YEAR WARRANTY!! WE WANT AN EXTRA 1 YEAR WARRANTY (repeat 20,000 times)!!!
