How much you all want to bet that the G73jw with Nvidia will have perfect working vBios with perfect Powermizer downlclocking in 2D and 3D mode perfectly?

Wouldn't surprise me since Asus is traditionally an Nvidia company. The G73jh is the first notebook from Asus with a ATi GPU good enough for me to consider.

So should i go wiwth the 10.8 or wait for the new vbios? Heard a lot of people are having the same GSOD problem with stock vbios and 10.8

There's nothing wrong with trying 10.8 and reverting back if you GSOD.

That's what I did. Tried the 10.8's with/without new custom vbios and still got GSODs...so reverted back to 10.7a and Ziddy's vbios...more stable for me for some reason.

    Update -
Nothing new so far today on GSOD or the Missing Keystroke events, but I think we are getting close to a cure but more importantly an exact reason as to why they occur on some systems and not on others. I have been down several rabbit holes this week but thank you to those who have answered my questions, we greatly appreciate the help. :)

I hope you mean you are getting closer to fix the vBIOS and not releasing some kind of hocus-pocus power management setting that might delay the GSOD :)

Did you check why is MSI vBIOS working without GSOD?

I think this is a very good question, that deserves an answer. I mean, we did sorta pay like $1700 for this beast. We don't want to wind up with a $1700 paper weight ina year either when asus drops driver support for it, and all we have is ATI drivers left.

Please post if you have gsod or not (yes or no) and your gpu number in this thread. number should be similar to 60-NY8VG1000-Cxx. just open the bottom lid (only two screws). Just want to see some more results.

That would be nice. Because I'm going to keep RMAing my laptop, costing asus money, until I get a g73 that doesn't GSOD.

I can't help it but these kind of comments form Gary or other Asus personnel don't seem so reassuring. This might very well mean that someone has just made some bizarre power settings like you guessed or tuned core clocks in official vbios to delay the onset of GSOD or flickering/artifacts that many times precede it.

Rather than the comment 'we are working on a beta bios that has not had GSOD issues' I would like to hear something like: 'We found the reason behind the GSOD phenomenon (for example by closely examining the behaviour of MSI and Clevo vbioses) and made the simple fix that eradicates the problem (and should have been apparent from the release of the model)'.

Listening to Gary's comments it seems they still do not know the real reason behind the crashes :(

The beta vbios Brian mentioned might actually be the one we already have, it hasn't been officially released even as a beta yet...

I don't wanna get anyone too excited, but I thought this might interest some of you.

Please don't ask me for more information, because I honestly don't have any. I am not beta testing anything for them and I am not under any kind of NDA from Asus. This is simply something I found interesting in a private email I received. So what I'm posting here is quite literally all I know.

I've been in touch with Gary himself for a while now, and he just turned me over to one of his co-workers who shall remain nameless.

His co-worker emailed me today (if you want me to be more specific, I got the email Sept 2nd around noon, eastern time), and one line in particular caught my eye:

Obviously, the fact that Asus is expecting to have it tomorrow doesn't necessarily mean we will have it tomorrow, but I still thought it was a positive sign. Hopefully this means good things for all of us.

That's what I meant. I'm sure I'm going to have to use these updated drivers to eliminate my missed keystroke problem. If it doesn't contain two finger scrolling, I can certainly live without it. The other Asus drivers I have tried never have that feature. If I can have a touchpad and not miss keystrokes, we'll call that close enough!

    Gary,

Can you offer any insight as to what the new VBios addresses. I think this will set some of our minds at ease. Based on a comment about power settings in a previous post, many are concerned that your team may not have identified the exact issue. Knowing what the Vbios changes may quell some of this.....Nothing too deep, just a sentance or 2 :)
