I was with Creative software since 206. Now in 209 and never had a lock up, even without use CMSS-3D activated. Keep your creative + realtek updated (2.51 so far)and you won't have any worries.

I hate to say it but the techs working on your laptop will never treat it the way you do, they deal in volume and pressure and deadlines so they will probably try and blaze through whatever it is they have to do to your laptop.

Sadly the only person that will take the time, effort and care to see that nothing breaks in your laptop is you. After seeing what the insides of a poorly worked on laptop can look like I do not trust asus techs anymore, I'd rather do the work myself.

was looking at the xoticpc site and now they are offering 4 year accidental warranties and onsite service, a little late for me but at least ASUS is stepping up their service a little bit.

just for double check. I fire up steam 2 minutes ago with CMSS-3D activated, bass boost activated and eq activated, steam runs smooth with no lock ups, play portal for a while and now I'm back in the forum. Now I start Easy of acces center and the computer remains stable.....

Creative it's not an issue anymore for me.

From asus dvd drivers. If you don' t have it, look for chastity links (at the signature) to download the dvd image. The one at the asus website do not install nobody knows why. For the realtek just google it as realtek hd drivers. Have luck.

It's weird tho, it doesn't actually "feel" that hot. Like, I can put my hand on the keyboard and on the bottem and it doesn't burn or feel overly hot at all! Feels the same as when it reads 80c honestly.

The guys at BTO said it could just be that the censor is too close to the ram or something, and that it happens sometimes. Because it never shuts down from the temps, and it nevers feels that hot.

    So I dunno. :/

So i jsut restored back to factory...are temps higher on the stock drivers? I wanted a clean environment so when the new vbios drops, i can do the cleanest test possible :)

Ohh and btw, the creative fix seems to work well for me..thanks (another reason i restored back to factory, since i cant reinstall once uninstalled.)

Idle temps are higher on stock compared to 10.8 + 93vbios, load temps remains the same +/- 1c. At this point there is no recorded downside to running the new vbios.

Nice, Creative Audio center recognized it without a problem, and no more lock up if Bass boost is enabled! 1 more issue fixed :) Tested it with Ease Acces Center, STEAM and Ventrilo(all 3 locked up with the default Realtek driver if Bass Boost was enabled in Creative Audio Center) and they didn't freeze the laptop :)

Also double checked with Skype, MSN, and Gtalk. I used to have intermittent lockups with those.

2.51 seemed to have fixed those lockups, and now 2.52 as well.

Seems like the G73 is a late bloomer. :p

Question: Do you guys just install Realtek updates over the previous version or do you instead embark on the old "uninstall, safe mode, driversweeper, reboot, reinstall" tedious method?

Edit: Do you guys reinstall the HDMI Audio driver from Realtek as well?

    Hello,

My question is along these lines too. I've completely uninstalled the Creative software and I was not able to install the software again -

Do I need to uninstall the Realtek - Then install the Creative and then the Realtek.

    Thanks for the help!!!

    In Peace and Agape,
    Trav...

according to the read me in the downloaded file, if you have older drivers, clicking the exe will prompt you to remove the old drivers, then restart. then clicking the exe again after restarting will install new drivers. There is no need to use driver sweeper or any of the other stuff.

Thanks guys. 2.52 is installed. Now it is time to put it to work and see if anything is broken!

In regards to the Realtek HDMI driver - what was the final verdict in regards to potential conflicts with the new vBIOS? I recall seeing people reporting back to Gary whether they had it installed or not during his GSOD troubleshooting investigation. So is the definitive answer to have it installed or not?

    Dead quiet?!

The vBIOS is out and thus far seems to be a great success for everyone. The touchpad is still a work in progress. Creative fix was just posted, apparently though I haven't tried it yet.

I don't think we will get a real solution for the HM55 chipset which would mean full SSD performance while retaining power saving. The only thing Asus can do is openup the C states in the BIOS to disable power saving.

What I read so far leads me to believe that the HM55 chipset has a design flaw which isn't going to resolved with some software. I would very much like to be wrong about this but the absolute silence from Intel is not good. They know the problem, they just can't do anything about it because it's a hardware design flaw.

Basically the HM55 and PM55 chipset are flawed. Fubarred.

What you linked isnt really a solution... disabling idle states and making my CPU run at 60C+ just idling is ridiculous.
Tweak it differently and youre loosing SSD speeds again so you just cant have it all as it is now...

What about lack of ability to buy a bracket for the 2nd HDD bay? I am going to have to shim it in there for the time being so it doesn't move from the connector when moving/moved till I can find one online. Nothing at Asus' store still since it was yanked (per other thread somewhere here) awhile ago.

We don't actually know that, but without a response from Intel we may never know. I personally think Intel could if they cared about their customers, release a new firmware that rectifies this issue.

Although I have never heard of flashing your own chipset, so not sure how safe that would be.

I bought 2. It took 6 weeks to arrive by sea turtle and carrier pigeon (shipping costs almost as much as both of them) but it is a perfect fit. Maybe I should post that extra one in the marketplace for big bucks. :)

    Update-
    1. Still working on the missing keystrokes problem. The new Synaptics driver has fixed some systems or modestly helped others at best. Reverting back to the Windows 7 in-box driver works but you lose some of the Synaptics functionality. We are still on it.
    2. Working closely with the Service groups on RMA problems to further improve customer service.
    3. The G73Jw production units for review have arrived so expect to see reviews up by the end of the month on the NV version of this unit. We will continue to offer the G73Jh for customers desiring the AMD GPU.

Thanks Gary! Just FYI that for some of us, going to the default MS driver doesn't fix the problem and that the only solution has been disabling the touchpad altogether. I presume you are aware of this but just wanted to make sure... :)
