You could also try to reinstall the driver.

Start > Search for 'Device Manager' and click on it > Mice and other pointing devices > Right click 'HID-compliant mouse' and choose Uninstall.

Use the trackpad to click on the 'Action' menu and 'Scan for hardware changes'.

    That should reinstall the driver.

If that doesn't work double click 'HID-compliant mouse' and then try enabling the second option under the 'Power Management' tab.

Good luck to my English and German friends here. May the best team win! I hope some day our team can get to your level but I doubt that will ever happen. Oh well, training camp starts for the NFL soon. Go Seahawks!!!

Maybe I should have bought a razer mouse that comes with firmware updates. But I settled for something else.

My bios version is 213. I checked on Asus website its suppose to be the latest ver. :)

If you have not the latest chipset driver then try it also.
    Here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus-reviews-owners-lounges/494250-asus-n61jq-driver-thread.html

I had a problem before where when I plugged my HTC Diamond 2 phone to a USB port, the Logitech Wave Pro mouse and keyboard connected to another port used to stop working.
Updating the chipset driver fixed that problem for me.

Great that you were able to fix it. :)
So as ZJJXL suggested, it seems that the mouse itself was the problem for you.

Before anyone asks, the 213 version is for the N61JV model. I think the N61JQ is still 210.

Is heat in the Asus N61JQ something to be concerned about? Would the CPU/GPU temps possibly shorten the life of this laptop? I know that some people might say that I should put it on a laptop cooler, but I really like to have a laptop on my lap in my big comfy recliner.

A major question for me-->is the bottom of the N61JQ cool enough to use comfortably on my lap? Or is this not a good "laptop" to use on a lap?

I'm trying to decide between this or the N61JV, which runs cooler, but I'm hesitant about Optimus--I don't want to get locked out of a game because the software is confused about the graphics capability of the laptop.

    Thanks!

I have had no heat issues whatsoever with my N61... max temps while playing heavy graphic games (like Crysis or Battlefield Bad Co 2) hover around the 70c (both processor and gpu) give or take a few degrees. That is with a laptop cooler (CoolerMaster Ergo Notepal which has a nice big fan).. but even without it runs relatively cool

You really don't need a cooler. As for using it on your lap the N61JQ is perfect for this. It is cool on the bottom and it draws in air from the front which is raised a little. With this raised front you can set the laptop on a pillow or blanket and it still draws in air. I also am a couch potato. I use this cooler Amazon.com: Targus Lap Chill Mat AWE55US (Black with Gray): Electronics mainly as a tray. I just leave it on it and carry it around on the cooler. It works great and I would highly recomend it for this unit.

This is great to hear, thanks, Greg! BTW, one thing I'm concerned about with using a cooler is that the laptop might slide off--that would be awful. I looked up that cooler on Amazon, and it said that it has 4 rubber stops to keep the laptop from slipping--do they work well enough to prevent that kind of accident, in your experience?
    Thanks!

It doesn't move at all. As I said I just leave it on the cooler all the time. It stores real well on it and is real easy to transport. Now this is not the best cooler if you have a unit that is burning up and you want to blow a hurricane up it. But for this laptop it is perfect. It tilts it up, holds it in place, and is easy to carry around the house with your laptop on it.

Anyone bought any type of accessories for their N61? I got mine last week and tried shopping around for:
    1. screen protector - no luck, stores mostly have 15" and 17" in stock
    2. Laptop sleeve - managed to find one by Case Logic
    3. Keyboard protector - if its true that the N61 vents air through the keyboard, then we can't use a protector ?
    4. Cheap NAS - was looking at the DLink DNS-323 but it seems to make better economic sense to build one with FreeNAS

This is what I was told by ASUS tech support:

"The keyboard for U80V is incompatible with N61Jq and no backlit model for N61Jq temporarily."

I guess "temporarily" is better than "at all".

I have also all the necessary parts (Qt chip, wire glue etc. ) except for the keyboard.

I am still waiting for the keyboard to arrive from asusparts.eu.
It has been three weeks since I ordered it. :(
The status is still "awaiting parts".
They ordered it from ASUS Taiwan, but it seems that they still didn't get it. :(

They may not be a great team and didn't even win but I had a lot of fun rooting for Korea. I caught the match in Busan and was glued to the TV for most of the game. They played well considering most expected Uruguay to crush them after their 4:1 loss to Argentina. I didn't even bother watching the US match.

It seems that any modern game that I run on the laptop cranks the temps high, both CPU and GPU. I've never gone past 95C. But still it bothers me. If I only live in US, I'd RMA it right now. I'm thinking of buying an AS5 and let the asus business center here to apply it but I'm unsure if they could apply it properly. What a bull shrek. :(

What temps do you get while gaming?

It's very dusty here in my place, I have to wipe the screen clean every time I use the laptop. I think it attracts more dust as the panel has glass in front of it. Static I guess.??

i believe you have such high temps because there is dust accumulating in your system. you should find ways to make your working environment as dust free as possible. there are some tutorials on how to clean your laptop. its simple and should not void the warranty.

    YouTube - cleaning laptops

    &

    Cleaning A Laptop Computer

please do report if you are having better results while gaming.
i live in a dusty environment too, when my laptop arrives its going to be a pain to maintain this machine.
