So rolling back to the original drivers seems to work. Optimus comes on no problem. Working driver date 1/14/2010, 8.16.11.8871

Dude, once more you are in the wrong forum. This forum is for N61Jq which doesn't have a beast called, Optimus. It has the ATI video card and not the Nvidia video card.

Windows experience memory index only 5.9? This is very strange, anybody knows about it?

If you are not using a Solid State hard drive your WEI will be 5.9 because your overall score is the score of the lowest component.

upgrade your RAM to 6G or more, WEI can then hit 7.3/7.4 for RAM.

I was playing BC2 today and my machine suddenly hibernated in the middle of the gaming session. I wasn't keeping track of temps, but the ambient temperature is pretty warm ~85F. I was running under AC Power not battery power set to high performance, so nothing should have turned off, which makes me suspect temps.

Were would I find a log about the shutdown condition?

Were you gaming on your laptop with just the battery? If not, try setting your power options to performance and set it so nothing gets turned off.

Temps wouldn't have put your laptop into hibernate mode. If it was temps it would have just shutdown the laptop (hard stop). Maybe you hit a shortcut key for hibernate.

I'm using the Koss KPH\6 headphones ($5 at Wal-Mart) and the sound is really low even when the inline controller is set to Max and I've maxed out the volume setting in Windows (which I observed is linked to the hotkeys). I'm about to update to the latest Realtek driver. Should this fix it or is it more likely the headphones are just bad?

Looks like I'm using the .206 BIOS, I never upgraded. I'm running the 10.4 ATI drivers.

I'm thinking it hibernates because the power button light goes out completely, but when I power back on, Windows indicates it's 'resuming'.

I played another hour or so, this time with the lid up, and CPU-Z running, and the graphics card temps were higher than I'd seen. 102C. Isn't 105C the top of the operating threshold?

No one knows what the BIOS updates really do (since ASUS doesn't post change logs), but upgrading may help. I can see no reason not to upgrade; they don't update BIOS for no reason.

I'm not sure about the temps; ATI seems to be secretive about it. This post mentions 105 C for the memory and 96 C for the GPU core. It is definitely too hot if thermal management features kick in (i.e. if you see a drop in FPS when reaching a certain temp). If you consistently see temps >105 C, it might be worth underclocking the GPU. You could also look into a cooling pad; I and others have found that they make negligible difference (only 1 or 2 degrees with my Zalman NC2000), but they may work better at higher temps.

Edit: I think this is the utility people have been using to over/underclock their 5730s, but you should double-check.

Help!! Whenever I startup my computer I get this message "Bluetooth Software License Not Found [2].

Also, my webcam frame rate is very slow, there's like a 2-second delay e.g when I move my arm, I only see it moving on the LifeFrame screen about 2 seconds later.

Please help, thank you very much!! :)

    I'm using an Asus N61JQ - JX014V.

You might try updating the Bluetooth driver to the latest version: outside link. It's probably a good idea to uninstall the current driver using Control Panel (uninstall references to Broadcom and WIDCOMM).

Mike, I don't even want to post driver updates but given all the requests I have agreed to do so. I post what members supply. I do not verify or edit them. If Lounge owners want to provide the dates in their posts then I will post it. But I am not going to look this up.

Now speaking of driver updates. I just got back from a cruise to Mexico and I see the update dorks :D have been very busy! I will get the new updates up soon but you guys find them so fast that they will be obsolete before I can post them.

I just finished updating my drivers and bios today (I never update that stuff when I really need the computer stable). I don't mind if the front page drivers lag behind a bit, that usually means that the ones on that page are stable or at least tested.

Wow, fellow readers. I am THOROUGHLY impressed.

I had (have) an old Dell D600 that's tired on so many fronts it's not even funny. Hinges busted, unbelievably slow XP Pro install and very loaded with all of the tools, tricks, extra's that a techie like myself likes. Apps like password fill tools, Office 2007 (yes, a legal copy!) and very large PST files only scratches the surface of what all I had on this system...so much I can't even list much more than a small sample. Starting over with a formatted drive and fresh OS is a nightmare to me..taking me several weeks to a few months to fully get operational with everything. Finding licenses, install files (that's not usually too difficult) and for that matter even REMEMBERING what all I need ... as I said, a nightmare.

Enter Laplink's PC Mover. We all know what type laptop the new one is and what it is running....64-bit W7. Unbelievably after 8 hours of transferring everything I asked it to (via their own USB cable) I have almost EVERYTHING in place. Profiles, applications (including my Office 2007 and Outlook with everything perfectly in place), you name it, it's there and working perfectly. I would have had to purchase the form filler because I've reinstalled it too many times. That alone was almost worth the entire purchase price of Laplink.

So..going from an OLD Dell, 32-bit XP, to this fancy new Asus with 64-bit W7...I honestly thought I was going to be in for one heck of a mess.

I give this software 5 stars and THEN some. Unbelievable...

Hope this helps someone that customizes their systems as much as I do mine.

Hello, I'm new here, and I just got my asus N61Jq-X1, but I'm quite worried about its temperature, in entertainment mode it is cool I think so, idle=52º and full max 75º, but in performance mode( Power4 Gear, minimum state and maximum state to 100) , I ran GTA4 for 10 minutes and the cpu got 92º in max and the game flicks sometimes, is this a normal temp ? or I have to change the Power4 Gear values, and what values are recomended in order to not loose much performance ? thanks in advance!

when modifying colour settings in CCC. Is there anyway to make it permanent in the sense that it doesn't have to switch colours after startup. Because everytime i log on my computer to the desktop theres about a 5 second delay before it applies the colour settings. Is there any way to circumvent this?

I think that p4g high performance is overvolting your laptop.Actualy i have the same problem, when i'm using high performance turbo boost is always on,even in idle and the processor stay at 55 W when it should stay at 15-45 W.
Advice: Use the balanced profile from windows.
Any news with backlit keyboard? :D I was thinking i could power it from usb? :))

I downloaded a program called battery care that automatically changes the profile when on AC and battery power. My settings are AC is balanced (because you still get the turbo boost without burning your system like High performance power4gear mode) and battery is quiet office (unless anyone has found another profile that gives better battery life than this and still looks good).

I honestly just haven't had time to work on it. I am not sure about the other guys.

As for the USB port, it could power it. I don;t think it is the best place since there is probably a light sensor attached to something on the system and that would be the ideal place.

I did toss around the idea of creating a little app to control a USB port in order to turn the keyboard on and off but, I would like to think of that as a last resort idea. Also, I'm not even sure if you can turn the power off to the port.

I believe that disables the port from Windows using it but I don't know if it stops the power flow.

I did some research on this because I'm doing the same with a N71JQ. You cannot switch off the power of a USB port because the USB protocol simply doesn't allow for it. It is possible to switch off the drivers of a hub using the devcon command in DOS (which you could link to the Fn-F5/F6 for instance), but the port needs power because it sends data before switching on/off. If you can using the data signal in some way you're in but that goes well beyond my knowledge.

BTW devcon is basically the DOS version of Device manager. There's a version compatible with win7 x64 in the Windows Driver Kit.

What about the advanced windows power management feature to disable PCI and USB ports when not in use? I don't see how this would help battery life if the USB port is still active and drawing power.

Try with an optical mouse and you will see the laser ray turned off(will stop the power flow).

Are you sure this is the power flow stopping or the mouse reacting to the driver being removed? If I write an app to turn on and off the port, I want to be sure.

Doesn't the N61JQ have a light sensor in the display? Wouldn't this be the preferred source?

Need help guys, my laptop just arrived.

    Using Win 7 Color Profile:
I tried right clicking on the ICC profile attached, however the "install" option didn't come up.(as said by Risco in another post)

In CCC, I changed the desktop properties settings(for R,B,G).

However couldn't find "Hue,Saturation,Brightness,Contrast" settings under the Desktops and Displays(using 10.4 ati mobility driver). Only an option to check the display there.

Also, the R,G,B settings are not getting applied, when I press "reactivate ATI controls" , the settings are changed for a second or so, and then goes back to the default setting.

    Am I missing something?

PS::: I am having another problem, it seems the keyboard isn't properly mapped.(Shift+2 -> "(double quote) while Shift+' -> @ ..basically interchanged)
Can this be solved by downloading drivers? ATK driver? Or is it a physical problem?

    Any help would be nice....

To access hue, saturation, etc., you have to right-click the little icon at the bottom for your laptop screen, and choose "Configure."

Not sure why the settings aren't sticking. Maybe there is another program trying to control color on your laptop? It could be Win7 itself; are you sure you didn't accidentally install the ICC profile? You don't need both (ICC and CCC settings). You can check by right-clicking desktop => Screen Resolution => Advanced Settings => Color Management => Color Management. Remove any profiles listed on the Devices tab, and uncheck "Use my settings for this device."

Regarding the keyboard: make sure the language is set to English (United States). Go to Control Panel, and underneath "Clock, Language, and Region," click "Change keyboards or other input methods." Choose "Keyboards and Languages" tab => Change Keyboards => and choose English (United States) (or the layout of your choosing).

Anyone notice a faint buzzing noise from the touchpad when on battery power? It only happens when you put your fingers on it. remove them and it is silent. Pretty annoying when surfing the net.

Also I get a high pitched noise when iTunes is open, again only on battery power. Anyone notice that too?

Thanks a ton for the succinct reply.
I was able to access the hue and saturation settings under configure(but no brightness)..

It was only after I checked the profiles, that I found out that the . ICC profile, had already been installed(I had clicked open and nothing had happened,so had thought it didn't work).

Also, had read about you guys having problem with the calibrated profile not sticking in games, other apps etc.

    Found this link:
    http://www.pusztaiphoto.com/articles/colormgmt/win7/default.aspx

and set the Color System Defaults profile to the calibrated .icc profile,(Name: ColorDisplay Profile-1,that you had attached in your post).
I am not too sure, but ran "Gears of War" and seems as if the colors are not getting reset.

Has anyone else tried it? All other options seems to require some professional calibration tools combo(spyder + powerstrip etc).

Sorry, if the link or this issue has already been discussed extensively, but don't recollect having read about it in this thread.

    PS:
I checked the keyboard setting, it was set to English-UK, tried changing to US, but still having the same problem. Would installing a new ATK driver help?(or is it any other driver which is required)?

Why is that this notebook doesn't read the other two gpu temp? In GPUZ, temp #2 and #3 say -168.5C. AFAIK temp #1 is not the core temp? But maybe I'm wrong.

Before the 10.3 or 10.4 Catalyst drivers, I don't think any of the software could even read the GPU temp. Maybe they haven't added the code to query the other sensors (or maybe those sensors aren't present on our chip).

    Hello Everyone,

I just received my N61jq laptop today and is overwhelmed by the shear amount of "bloat" inside this laptop. Mine did not come with any recovery disc so I'm presently burning a copy for safe keeping. Here is my question. Last year, I bought a Windows 7 "upgrade" disc with key for my Vista based lenovo laptop. I would like to reformat the same laptop using the upgrade disc but will use my OEM keys, to get rid of the bloatware in this laptop. Will my plan work, or will the upgrade disc "refuse" my oem key?
