Um about an hour ago, I want one but lets face it I cant afford it and its one of those things I wont buy for myself since im so price concious. But I want to do a super in depth real life test review of one and also I want to own one.
So heres hoping I can manage donations to cover half the cost and I will cover the other half.

Depending in how is the file architecture from the program that u r using the Vertex will be the winner. In WOW you have the MPQ files but they just work as a folder, you don't have centralized files with all models or all textures, you have inside the MPQ lots of small files (anyway its the unique way to make a game like WOW have a smooth flow) what make the X25 noticeable faster.
But in games that use a more "quake engine approach" like hl1 or hl2, who got more centralized files architecture (nothing with the GCF files) for models, textures, the Vertex should surpass the X25 pretty easy.
And when the files are really small the difference between Vertex and X25 should be small too because the access time still 0.1 ms and thats what will make more difference in this case (the last anandtech ssd article have a start programs benchmark who exemplify it by showing that the difference between Vertex and X25 is not that big in "normal programs").
It's a little of guess because i never really saw a comparative between X25 and Vertex in hl1, hl2 or any other game/program that use a small number of big files over lots of small files but its a technical based guess lol. -
i played wow and once my files loaded into memory..they never even touched the drive but every so often.
not a whole lot of games running off of hard drives...
but...im going load it again to be 100 percent sure. -

WoW was the largest noticeable gains in a game I saw when I upgraded my ram long ago on my old system. Reduced slowdon and stutter considerably when entering main towns. -
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
yeah. exactly what he said!
edit: also..the monolog portion of the games runs off the hard drive. (the video sections or level changes where they tell you your next mission) or if you have a dvd in, then it reads it from the rom. -
Well in wow you can notice a pretty big difference between Vertex and X25 and even bigger between ssd x mechanical hd.
Wow don't and can't load everything to memory so it just load what he need... It was a very good implementation because it keep loading models, textures and you don't see any stuttering or anything but anyway I'm talking about the launch time of applications.
-
and launch times are pretty quick on everything you bring up.
from power on till os and 25 programs (18 adobe and 7 office modules) loaded...1:46 seconds. single drive 1:11 seconds raid0

If the Intel and the Vertex are already pretty much the best two and they have similar speeds and you can tell a "pretty big difference" that means its not even close to instant. -

EDIT ok i found this comparing them

but what is the firmware jumper? -
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
Yeah, its not as good.
Im not the SSD expert, but I know the Intel & Vertex are the only two you really want to be looking at.
I think the core series is supposed to be decent but when your already spending that much I think you would regret not spending the bit more to get a SSD that is really worth it. -
Aristotelhs2060 Notebook Virtuoso
yes the 1VTX firmware update function is very promising as i found it is very cheap in comparison with other ssds and very good performing too. if you find an other offer you offer hunter please tell us to make it out of stock

i dont think the name x2 is original and the specs are exaclty the same. and seems weird to sell a new laptop and at this price.
-
The X2 is legit. I have the same thing. -
Yea, except:
I am selling this laptop AS IS with no Return.
-
I would be unsure about this seller only because he modified it , and unless its done by the reseller, I don't believe Asus will warranty it. Newegg doesn't make modifications.
My concern also, is that this seller may have OC'd the crud out of it and decided to get rid of it cause it has issues. .. The price does not reflect the money he put into it in upgrades etc.. Ebay is a scary place for high priced items,, IMO.
I"m selling mine but its never been OC'd and Asus has had it longer than I haveI'm sure once they fix the unit recognizing a second graphic card, it will be like shiny new out of the box.
-
You cant sell something to someone when they can modify it when they get it, fry a component or something and then expect a private seller to take it back and return your money? Not feasible.

Just called ASUS to get an update on my RMA for the stuck pixel.
They received it on the 4th. I was told that they do not have any screens and would have to order from Taiwan. When I asked how long that would take, she said 2-3 weeks to receive the screen. That is not an acceptable time frame given my history since purchase. ASUS has had both my units almost as long as I have!!!!
I asked if they could check to see if there were any DOA units they could take a screen from = no
I asked if I could just send the rest of the box contents (dvds, mouse, ect) and once they receive just send me another. = they didn't have any stocked currently.
Again, ASUS warranty is A+ but the execution is C_ at best. I feel like they can at least call a customer or email to let them know what is going on with the RMA. It always has been that I wait what I feel is a fair amount of time to hear from someone, then I have to call them.
-ends rant.....misses his big sexy lappy..single tear -
Replace my GPU's??? Did I miss something or do you have me confused with another with an issue? Everything was running peachy on my second unit till that pixel started glaring at me with it's evil red eye!!!!!!!

Im still waiting on MINE!!!!!!!

Can you post a much bigger version of that pic?
Please
-
Lol I was just about to ask that.. Please post pics. And put a person or cat or something that shows scale in a few pictures so we can see how big these laptops are. Thanks!...
I'm still waiting it out but closely following this thread. I haven't ordered yet at all. I can wait it out, eventually they will be regularly in stock and problem free hopefully. -
Just out of curiosity how many people on the forum are waiting for a laptop from Ken?
I wonder if he will get enough to fill the entire order on the 20th.... -

In my own tests the difference was a little bigger (like 2.x seconds not 1.4 lol). I don't know what is noticeable for you guys but 6 seconds is not instant for me and a 2 seconds difference is pretty noticeable.
Of course that the difference depends in the program file architecture... And the brutal random read in the intel make the difference in WoW but it's not going to happen in every program and thats why i still prefer a Vertex.
Just to exemplify
PS: I don't play WoW i just installed it here to compare with my friend after reading the anadtech review.
-
Guilty admission follows.... As I have been reading this thread and seeing the posts of those waiting and waiting I keep thinking how lucky I am to have received what so far has been a properly functioning unit before they stopped shipping. I usually seem to be on the other side of the deal where I am reading peoples enthusiastic chest thumping over their shiny new hardware while I wait. I like being on this side of the equation better
-
I am also lucky as I have never got a bum piece of equipment so I can wait until they fix the issues, I would have been pissed spending $2400 on a laptop that had issues and then to have Asus tell you "wait for parts" while you sit with your finger in your nose.
$2400 in this day and age is allot of cash for a laptop.
-
Anybody had problems with the USPS for their asus w90 overseas???
-
-
-
GET OUT OF MY HEAD!!!!! -
With the amount of people on here that just ordered from ken alone he better be getting a couple pallets of these things at the minimum.

Cool! I bout a cuple games already! and was thinking about a SSD or two, I have to figure how to copy the intire hard drive to the new drive I may get. -

The big 47" one is a Sharp Aquios its worth well over $2000 and it was $1400, strictly speaking on the "deal" the sharp is a better deal compared to its normal price.
I love my Westy though, if that model is as good as mine you would be very happy with it. Its not 120hz though, atleast I saw no indication that it is, and if it was they would make a big deal of it, it wouldnt be hard to find. -
and as you were saying Striker his shipment is comming on the 20th of may and then i have a good month of waiting before i get mine because it is gonna take forever to get out here -
