Yeah, if that were the case I'd have to find a reason to send my perfectly ok running X1 in for repair ;)

... I do have some light bleed along the bottom of the screen so maybe that could constitute a need for servicing... ???.....Hmmm.....

But yeah, what is the deal with the GPU's of this latest batch arriving?

    this review
    http://www.anandtech.com/printarticle.aspx?i=3531
    1: click login = 1 second
    2: click okay = 1 second
3: click enter world = 5 seconds till your standing on the grass ready to play
and since they seem to be talking about that last part... they seem to be fairly close. (real world perspective) i ran tht test 20 times to be sure.
also keep in mind...we said the intel drive was faster at READING. that was never an issue. i said the vertex drive was faster at writing and gave 40 gigs extra space for less money. (that's why i went with the vertex)
and since we are throwing up reviews...
    http://benchmarkreviews.com/index.p...sk=view&id=299&Itemid=60&limit=1&limitstart=0

not sure about that 14 to 16 second app stuff since you never really said what applications you we're running nor OS, so i have nothing to compare. but i can open 8 microsoft apps in like 5 seconds

    uploading to youtube right now.

again, lets recap...never said the vertex was faster at reading than the intel, but for the same amount of money..you get a bit more out of it.
    striker

kingston hyperx memory is no cheap run of the mill memory and is pretty costly

4-4-4-12 4 gigs will run you like 250 bucks
i think ill give them a try soon....

Vertex IS faster in sequential reading:

and MUCH faster in sequential writing:

the point here is random read/write:

In WoW the X25 will outperform a Vertex pretty easy because of the file architecture used in WoW.

X25 actually have the best overall application launch time but it DEPENDS in how the file architecture was made in the application (big files = Vertex, medium files = Vertex, small number of small files = X25 have some advantage, lots of small files = X25 will outperform by LOTS).

    http://www.anandtech.com/storage/showdoc.aspx?i=3535

I already sold my Vertex but FOR ME it's the best ssd in market :p (it will depends in what applications u use... and thats why I'm gonna buy another 1 or 2 :p).

Yay! Finally, after promoting this product since the 1st day I joined NBR, someone gonna take a stab at this product :D
Striker, Kingston doesn't have 4GB stick of that HyperX ULL product. Sorry.
John, the link to the product that I posted earlier only $218 instead of $257 on your above link.

Im waiting for Striker to get that new PCI-E SSD for his desktop.

    BTW...

Can any tell me what aftermarket upgrades will avoid the W90 warranty? i searched in the asus website but found nothing :(.

Like... Can i just upgrade Ram and HD without avoiding the warranty like in my MacBook?.

we we're talking about the faster memory not the more memory... :)
so for faster memory you can only go 6 gb's in a w90v.

haven't found it in 4gb chips @ 800 mhz yet.

    edit:
but now running 667 4 gb kits in a w90 could prove to be the move, since you can raise the memory speed up to 800 mhz....hummmmm...(speculation here)
any one try this yet? run 667 memory then over clock it to 800 mhz... or is that even possible in the w90...

Hmm cpuzis reporting my memory running 667 with a 4:5 divider -.- post says im running 800 though, gah we need SPD settings in the bios for this beast to. Im just surprised that asus being a large producer of highend desktop OCing mobos and then this laptop which SCREAMS 'overclock me' dont provide some of the really basic overclocking functions such as tweaking ram timing. Blah, there has to be someone out there that can crack this bios and who knows how to add features in yes/no? What do you guys think?

Alienware is so much hype to capture the young audience, they wait 20 days to see this super laptop and feel that they now have to purchase it. Not to mention the absolute highway robbery they charge for upgrades.

that was just me messing with you.

12 gigs is fine for the person trying that. and you proved it work. congrats.
that sounded more like a personal best thing than a performance upgrade.. :)

been knew they we're ddr2-800 sticks.

been paying attention to you talking about 12 gb for like the last 10 pages.. :)

but then we got on to something else, having to do with over clocking higher. something about what vicious was talking about. when he said his ram was his limiting factor.
thought you might have wanted to test it out for everyone. since your machine is on the test bench as we speak. :)

would love to use up 8gb of ram (let alone 12gb), but just can't quite find my self doing that just yet. only in test.... at least...not yet anyway...

You would think they would give you the ability to tweak the bios to holy hell and back but sadly they do not . My P6T deluxe asus board has more options then you could imagine when it comes to bios tweaks so clearly if anyone were to make a bios with all the bells and whistles it would be them . I guess they dont think the laptop market is much of the enthusiast but there oh so wrong. Personally the only real thing that machine needs ASAP is just more power going to the CPU to unleash Qx9300 to full potential or atleast that would be great start .

As for Dellalienware there usually a little slow out of the gate with ideas but in the end they will get the most credit for there machines.

Glad to hear man, its a great machine that will hopefully only get better if they release a bios update :). The asustech guy awhile back did say they were working on new turbogear profiles for the Quadcores so hopefully they have some aces up there sleeve to combat the M98nu and alienwares new offering.

Sure hope so :D Thing overclocks like a beast and this this as weve already seen has the power and cooling to back it, no reason for asus not to in all reality.

I actually came on here to post about fallout 3 though :) I was just playing it on the default detected settings of high and i was totally bummed out getting 25-45 fps. However i hopped out of the game tossed the cpu up to 3ghz and hopped back in to see a solid vsync 60fps (except when spinning around loading new textures). So jumped back out, cranked it to ultra @ and put the cpu back to stock. Found a nice view looking over a large landscape and it sat at 50 fps, hopped back out and bumped cpu back to 3ghz (ultra still) only to have that same viewpoint now vsync capped at 60 fps again.

I know all that states the obvious that these cards are cpu limited (and apparently fo3 has some sort of bug with the low fps when i was on high settings) but i just had to post because its such a great feeling to be able to see that myself, and see the improvement with just a mild (mild in the terms of this cpu should be running 3.6 easy) overclock.

Ya fallout was very CPU hungry on that machine . Only issue i would run into on occasion was at 3ghz it would hardlock the game and i would have to ctrl+alt+delete and restart the game so i got used to saving often but i usually played it around 2.9ghz and had 0 issue . it also for some reason happened more indoors then out . The games a tad buggy as i had the same issues on my desktop where it would lock the same way .

Yeah, I still find that setfsb will lock the machine sometimes, would DIE for a bios overclock unlock. I think the hardlocking with setfsb though is when the system uses speedstep and drops the multiplier to 6 and brings the system to the 1.6 ghz range then it bugs out when you try to set the fsb.

I have 0 clue why they dont unlock the multipliers for the machine in the bios because like you said the machine has cooling in spades so theres really no issue . If not that then atleast like a 25% turbo gear would be ok to :D.

Yep. We just need to break kinc and get him to give up his bios really :D

That guys everest and cpuz don't match. Everest was reporting 10.5 multi with 310 fsb while cpuz said it was @ stock... By the way i read on the ocz forums today that i believe that any cpuz after 1.41 doesn't correctly report mobile cpu voltages. Something to keep in mind.

Probably Alienware new system will be based on Clevo M980NU.
    Alienware loves LED Lights... :D

And the timing, "19 days to go", is the same release date as Clevo M980NU.

Ya sometimes the readings are not correct from one to the other .

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=380916

thats the thread of the sager so you can see more of his pics as he was the first to try a Qx9300 . i just dont get why a little machine like that with a very small powersupply can be putting out all the power and yet there holding back the Quads in the W90 . Clearly Asus has to have a bios in the works and when they built the W90 they just werent using the Qx9300 for testing otherwise they would have thrown more juice at it.

Just me or do those guys seem a little paranoid over those temps? Well i guess at stock those are a little warm but still seems totally acceptable in a 15 inch.

I guess were just blessed with such an awesome cooling system, i really don't doubt that well start to see some better overclock options on this machine once asus gets all the GPU issues sorted. Last thing they want is to release a bios update that could further increase the current problems, im speculating well see the update sometime around early-mid june after all the current issues get sorted.

This is just a thought, but with all of the issues that has "owners" returning these lovely lappy's back to Asus. May I suggest a change in verbiage? Instead of using the word "owner", use the word "renter". So signatures and tags might read like this...

"First official W90VP renter" or "Proud renter of an Asus W90VP" ;)

Technically you own it even if its not in your possesion.

Renting is temporary, paying money for an object that will be released from your ownership after a period of time has passed or when payments have stopped.

These belong to use till the end of time and there is no cycle of payments (asus even pays the shipping)

That said I got an ETA on my RMA finally something like the 24th of this month so I still have maybe 2 weeks to wait.

Here is hoping somebody at Asus accidentally drops a 120gb vertex and qx9300 in my machine before sending it back :p or atleast just in the box.

Video "Flickering" in game menu's I would call it a sync issue or "screen bouncing"

Its something I could have lived with but had no reason too so I sent it back.

I dont hate AW people, they hate themselves enough when they see cheaper higher performing devices from Asus :p

The G50V had lights on it, I didnt care for them in "strobe" mode but when I put it on "always on" it was pretty cool.

I had no problems breaking it out in the middle of the boardroom table for a professional company meeting with all my bosses & co-workers. I got a few compliments on it too. It made it look expensive and unique.

I just found out Sager is going to have a mobile quad core sli gtx 280 machine to compete with the W90, wonder what kind of brick its gonna be :p

Well actually curious what the price will be.

Whats the deal on AW side with the 4870? are you getting a GDDR5 version?
