hmm, would it be worth cancelling my w90 preorder and waiting for this?
-
-
lol its your call i unno what they are going to do but i just figured something out reading the source code on the web site
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=381013
it doesn't say it on the site directly but ... it seems dell its taking it all -
@Mr.Moo
My statement about Alienware loves Light FX doesn't mean I hate Alienware. I just want to backup my prediction/speculation regarding Alienware new laptop.
Clevo M980NU's "flashy" design, high performance profile, estimated release date, history between the 2 companies... all of these make Clevo M980NU a perfect candidate for the next generation Alienware.
Now if only Quanta also produce the next generation of m17x, we will have a Great Laptop War this year
-
clevo's flashy design doesn't matter alienware would re brand it ....
now that dells running it im betting its an exclusive but i hope its a rebrand
please check my link up there it seem there is a new line of dell/AW laptops and desktops -
i'm leaning towards no... i don't want to exceed 2.7k for a lappy, but i'm guessing the base processor for whatever these new line of computers is probably a q9000... stock hdd space will probably not exceed 640gb... so all i would be getting for waiting is slightly better video card and maybe more ram, right?
-
prolly gonna be at stock a t9550 or somethign to that effect
stock HD will prolly be 160 gigs
ram stock will prolly be 2 gigs ddr3
i unno though im just throwin POo here
wish i had more info
-
eh, its helpful though... you know AW pretty well, so whatever you have to say is somewhat constructive.
on that note, is it a correct assumption that i would be paying more to make the allpowerful lappy "better" than the a1? if so, i'll just stick with the a1 as it is a very good deal... but one of my worst nightmare's would be if the AW/dell lappy is better, and around the same cost of the a1.
but that's why i was sort of thinking of cancelling my order for the a1 and waiting to see what the allpowerful lappy brings. i hate when companies are shady about specs... -
i unno i have no idea AW is usually a little more expensive but with dell backing this it could be cheaper.... who knows ...
but as of now i will say the Allpowerful will be more expensive ...
also update a former AW tech agent just said it is not a 18 inch ..... -
whaa?? that's odd that they'd build this much hype for something that isn't 18"
-
ummm I dont think screen size matters but it does change alot of things .....
....curious now -
i don't know... but i suppose it makes sense because AW doesn't even offer an 18", but i just expected an 18" for something called "all powerful."
i don't think i'll wait for this, 100% now... -
the ASUS is still a beast
-
yeah, i repped you for helpin' out and your post in the other place. thanks for the help, moo... your comments reaffirmed my confidence in the w90. lol. i'm so interested in this dell/AW line of computers though... because dell isn't that overly priced... and they offer big discounts.
-
im wondering to because from that source code it seems allpowerful is a series of laptops and DESKTOPS
dell with its sources could help it get cheaper -
yeah.. before i ordered the w90 i was going to get an hp laptop with these specs:
Upgrade to Genuine Windows Vista Ultimate with Service Pack 1 (64-bit)
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad Processor QX9300 (2.53Hz)
$100 OFF!! 8GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm) - For 1GB Nvidia GeForce GT 130M
640GB 7200RPM SATA Dual Hard Drive (320GB x 2) with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
1GB Nvidia GeForce GT 130M - For DDR3 Memory
18.4" diagonal High Definition HP Ultra BrightView Infinity Display (1920x1080p)
Blu-Ray +/-R/RW with SuperMulti
Webcam + Fingerprint Reader with HP Imprint Finish (Fluid)
Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-card with Bluetooth
50% OFF!! HP Integrated HDTV Hybrid Tuner
Full Size Backlit Keyboard
8 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
No Productivity Software
HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope
for under 2.7k because they had a 20% off coupon that could be used on any customized laptop. i know dell has coupons like that, too... which is why i don't know what to do... -
You don't want to wait for Clevo M980NU?
The price of Asus W90 (with ATI 4870 CFX) really make changes in the gaming laptop world. The price of a GTX 280M card is approx $280 cheaper than the previous 9800M GTX card. With SLI, that means it's approx $560 cheaper compared to 9800M GTX SLI.
Thus we can speculate that Clevo M980NU will have the same price as Asus W90 with the same specs... or slightly a little bit more, but still reasonable
-
nvidia does not equal fairly priced...usually

I wanna say configured similar to the w90 its going to cost $500 more. Dont know why and it doesn't sound like a good idea but just a feeling I have.
Plus do we yet know if the 280m beats the 4870?
Mr Moo will tell you people buy for reasons other than just specs & performance, that looks are important. If this Sager is like the others, its not going to be getting high marks in that category, and while I dont frequent the Sager/Clevo forums often the few times I dive in there seems like all the units that had my interest all had heat issues. -
well, i need a lappy... and i don't wanna wait for something that is just "slightly better." plus, aren't the stock processors in those intel duo chips?
-
vicious have you seen pics of this laptop it has more lights then a AW trust me
i LOL'd at the comment about looks..... i want both so i went AW. It was 2 best at the time behind the 9262 n i didnt have 3 grand lol
also i have heard it was slated for 2k stock -
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
From what I read on the forums its a mobile quad and sli GTX 280M' so its the W90 clone but with Nvidia inside.
But thats just the bare necessities, we dont know hard drives, size, cost, chipset, ram, wireless, optical, etc.
The GTX280 never did impress me since its just an overclocked 9800GTX
but I guess if it performs (and doesnt die like the 8000 series did) its ok.
-
...dude from what im hearing if its true its gonna go both ways ....ATI and Nvidia ... we know for sure AW does have 4870's DDR5 and they are testing with flex...... which mean they would have no reason not to put them in ...
-

The 9262 was one of the models I was interested in, and one of the ones that I think has heat issues. It was one of the few Sager that was not a total brick box. I may be getting the models confused though. -
The M98nu is a looker but at the expense of being a complete dust and slime magnet . The 280s will probably overall be abit faster but again not like people are thinking it will be over the W90.
http://portables4gamers.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/clevo-m98nu.jpg -
I know what you mean, Clevo D900x chassis is really ugly... LOL
But the M980NU design on the other hand, trying to look like Alienware, if you know what I mean
As for GTX 280M performance, its about 10-20% more powerful than 9800M GTX. No performance data for GTX 280M SLI so far...
You can check out Clevo D901F review in a german site here:

And Clevo M980NU sample review here:
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Hands-On-Clevo-M980NU-Notebook.14554.0.html -
all the sites i've seen advertising the m980nu put the stock processor as the t9550... even though the q9000 would be only a little bit more to upgrade, those little costs add up if the ram/hdd/wireless/optical drives need an upgrade, too.
i think the w90 is the best "bang for the buck," which is why i will choose it over the m980nu...
edit: plus your overclocking program makes the q9000 not as much of an issue.. i'm interested though, how does fallout3 run at 2.7 ghz on the w90 on max settings? FPS? -
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
Oh thats not too bad looking (M98), the 9262 was also glossy like that was it not?
I get so confused with the Sager/Clevo as the same unit gets like 3 names.
Besides the text on the lid and the flush touchpad I say its a good design.
It and one up's the W90 with a 3rd HDD, but not too sure who needs 3, even me as a space hog 2 is enough. -
AFAIK, Clevo D901C/D901F (Sager NP9262/NP9280) use matte finish.
-
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
The one I liked was a thinner lower speced model that had a nice gloss finish, its probably old news now as I was looking at it nearly a year ago. -
still a brick, but never had heat issues..
hard to say at this point, since no enthusiast with an over clock able cpu and a gtx280m. they are sitting around 6200 on gpu in vantage mark. sitting behind the 9800mgtx/4870/4850 in quite a few games. no sli marks yet
edit: 9262/9261/9260
also it was designed well before they had these high capacity hard drives..remember...so running 3 160 gig drives was the thing back then...
-
hey quad, did you ever play fallout 3 without overclocking? if you did, how many fps were you getting?
-
It varied alot but without Vsync on i averaged probably 50-70s id say on ultra settings but i never really played it not overclocked on the CPU end. didnt really play anything with the GPUs overclocked as i didnt see the need. Also all this was with drivers 9.4 and the flashed slave card so thats something your going to want to do Asap .
-
yeah, i'm having ken do that.. which is why i'm asking. i think vicious said he overclocked his w90 to 2.7ghz, which is about what the qx9300 runs at stock.. thus my question.
hmm, i'm guessing that it won't run that well on my w90 though on ultra settings. dangit. -
qx9300 runs 2.53 ghz
-
wonder when this chip hits the markets...
3.33GHz Bloomfield 45nm quad-core -
never......lol
-
I still like the W90. I bet if you configure it close to the W90 it'll be as least 500.00 premium.

qx9300 was overclocked to 4ghz! so 3.3 ghz is easy for it i guess. -
I wouldn't toss ultra setting out just yet, i dont have a q9000 to test withh but even at stock clocks on the qx9300 fo3 is very playable on ultra setting, mind you that you do still gget some nasty fps drops if you turn quickly and have to load new textures, i guess thats where the ddr5 MIGHT have made a difference.
Quad, any idea why when i turn vsync off im still locked at 60 fps? Other games work fine when i turn it off but fallout still doesnt like to go above 60. -
Intel originally was displaying the qx93000 clocked at 3.5 with the ability to be leveraged to 3.7... we all know that means the serious people can push 4ghz
-
You have to edit an ini file to truly disable Vsync . Even though it says its disabled in game its not . Just google it .
-
ok i will do that
-
this is a desktop chip... meaning it can be over clocked quite high, but since it would be going into a laptop with no over clocking...that 330 mhz would make quite a difference in speed without the need for over clocking the cpu(is what im thinking)

*Pats Mr. Moo gently on the head and hands him a biscuit*
Of course the M17 is going to get 4870 GDDR5's.....

You never know, AW could do to the M98NU what it did to the 840 chassis wise. -
no no no the laptop is exclusive and its a 17 inch and its refresh of a design now so to speak ... ddr montevina ATI and Nvidia ....
the "could go both ways " comment was about the new laptop from
AW -
hello Mr. Moo how is the speed today?
-
mehhh wearing off....
hey vicious looks like chaz was mad at those last 2 comments in ur thread he deleted them
-
What thread and what comment?
-
No i was speaking about the M98nu being that way not alienwares offering and hopefully if they do go with that chasis they will coat it in something other then shiny plastic
.. I know it does not bother you personally because like you said you like to actually use your machine , but for me my hands tend to get a bit grimy quite fast so that slick plastic makes me bonkers.
