Also... I completely removed the foam and "void" sticker from the processor heatsink purposely to see what would happen, and they still replaced everything.

ASUS is the way to go.

I dont think there even opening the machines that have problems there just replacing them . Probably just checking for contents of the package and then they OK for replacement .

Nah. One time deal. Cant do it again.
My logic was... Its brand new, lets see how much of a hassle they will give me. I had a drop-net if something went wrong.

RMA'd my old one because of the flickering and a little distortion in the top left corner of the display, and knew they would give me a new one, just had to wait to RMA it when the replacements were available. If they gave me trouble I knew how to wiggle my way out of it.

They checked it alright... and called me to let me know that the system was tampered with and that they were sending me a BRAND NEW one. ;)

Why would they do that if they know you tampered with it ?. Or did you say it was not you who did the tampering ?.

"It seems the unit was tampered with, prior to delivery to you. Instead of repairing the unit, we will issue a Brand new Unit to you..."

I could barely understand the rest of the voicemail as it was broken english. This must have been the note the tech left about it.

So apparently, someone tampered with my W90. :D

Yeah, I specifically asked to be notified when the laptop was ready and what the cause of the issues were... I was calling almost everyday since they received it, so I guess they just wanted me to leave them alone. :D

Curios as to what was the point of removing the Sticker and sponge ? they would have replaced your unit because of the screen just like they had mine . I had distortion as well , wavy lines on the left hand side of the panel and it was causing me massive eyestrain .

It is a replacement from Asus directly, from an RMA .

In all honesty, I had a T9800 that I had put in there at first, and had no problem with removing the void sticker to get it in there. When it was time to RMA the thing, I noticed the the adhesive for the void sticker on the foam wore off. When I was removing the void sticker to put the Q9000 back, part of the sticker on the screw end broke. So I removed the whole sticker and was going to strategicly replace it, but decided, not to and just removed the foam as well to see what they would say to me. I kinda knew they werent going to make a big stink about it considering it was only a few days old and the day I got it, I was on the phone with tech support about the display issues.

Call me crazy, but I just wanted to put their customer service/loyalty to the test.

Anyway... my test was passed and I shall stick with ASUS in the future. (As if i were going anywhere else) :)

yeah, i just get concerned about that kinda stuff because i got screwed over on my last laptop. everyone talked about how great it was, and i got it home and realized the video card was ****. it could barely even play tribes, let alone tribes 2... haha. so that is why i always seem concerned with max settings... on that note, i'm hoping that i'll be able to run COD:MW2 on max settings with the w90.

i probably will upgrade to the qx9300, anyways, when i find a job.

If they decided to void my warranty, I woulda sucked it up. I take my shots. Although, my persuasion skills are pretty impressive, so I dont think it would have come down to that anyway.

lol. i'm just sayin' man, you got super lucky.. companies usually try to back out of their warranties any way they can.

haha, i remember once when i bought my DS light from best buy... i opened it and the hinge was cracked. i tried returning it to best buy and they gave me such a hard t ime about it, they even accused me of dropping it (which WOULD have voided my warranty.) luckily, a manager came around and knew about the issues with the hinges cracking and replaced it instantly.

Trust me, I know I am lucky. And I have had many similar situations as yours. But "Worst Purchase" (bestbuy) is quick to try to void a warranty... and they suck. Period.

I had bought a TV from them that wouldnt fit into my car in the box, so I took it out of the box to put it in the car only to find out that the base was cracked, and the remote was missing. They tried to say that they would not refund me because they thought I dropped it when taking it out of the box... but they didnt realize that THEIR associate did all they work and the TV never touched the ground. After two managers and 1.5 hours I was able to get my refund. Never again.

Asus is top notch... and when I put them to the test, they passed... SUMMA CUME LAUDE :D

haha. yeah, i saw best buy drop a tv when loading it into a customer's car... it was so funny, because i heard the customer's concern - "will it be ok?" and the best buy guy said "uh... yeah!" haha..

on a similar note, i have a funny story about sam's club. when i was working at wal-mart, like 3 years ago, there was a sam's club right across the street... well, during the day our store got news of a robbery in progress at sam's club. some genius reversed his pick-up truck into the entrance of sam's club, jumped out, tried to lift a plasma tv into his car (BY HIMSELF), realized he couldn't do it, ran back to his truck and tried to drive away... but guess what? his car was STUCK. haha.

I did with my last sager using my diamond (unlocked smartphone) but haven't tried it with this one since it was noticeably faster going usb. Not sure if or how it would be done with a normal phone. With the htc they have an internet sharing applet hit that, tell it to connect and thats it. On HSPDA the connection was about as fast as the DSL I used to have. On edge its best described as "works" and thats about it. I have had this one hooked up via usb when my cable went out. Worked fine doing that.

the g1 phone is an htc phone, but i haven't seen an internet sharing applet... perhaps it is on the google market, or something... but i don't think i would be using it that much, but it'd be a nice option.. ya know? i know i could do it via usb, but that is just another wire.. ugh. i hate wires.

lol. your like stewie on family guy after he watches 2 girls 1 cup. "that'd be even more gross with two guys.. do you think they have that? like, where would you even find that? i'll try typing it in." haha. i like how you suggested a room... are you living out your darkest fantasies through orion and i? i think so!!!

thanks! so i can connect for internet, but not transfer files via bluetooth?

and my comments to orion had no harsh intent, or criticism.. i was just messin' around.

so orion, when is your w90 supposed to arrive? i'm guessing if they are shipping out your unit soon, it is almost certain that there will not be a futher delay with gentech or xotic.

sorry dude, but im optimistic and i look at all sides of the story and not the 1 way vision you seem to project. nothing personal.

we under stand you input on warranty and that's find and dandy, but i have rma'd quite a bit more stuff than you have. and just because you think that way, doesn't mean the rest of the world does. end of story!.

Woo Hoo! Got the laptop back from Ken today. Qx9300 is SMOKING fast.
Blew through 3dMark Vantage and even beat my desktop score. Nice!

I also received some 4gb chips today. Has anybody installed ram themselves? A search for a W90Vp ram installation guide turned up nothing.

I did take out the battery, and removed two screws on the bottom (one just to the right of the subwoofer and the one parallel to it on the other side). Does that panel come off at this point? I didn't want to try to force it. Page 49 of the user manual isn't very useful.

Anyway I'd appreciate any tips.

    Thanks
