The diamond is windows mobile. I hear you on the cord but it isn't much of an issue for me since it shares duty as the cord for the charger and Im packing it anyways if I am far enough away from home to have the laptop with me. The extra speed online makes it worth digging out. I read the other post where the fellow said it is not possible and he is probably right. Or not. There are plenty of things happening with the G1 that Tmo is clueless about. If I wanted to know what was possible with the G1 they would be the last people I went to for information.

Thanks for the suggestions... Yeah I have an ESD wristband which I use for stuff like this. I also highly recommend their use.

I picked up 3 of the Patriot PSD24G8002S (2 from Frys and 1 from your MemoryC suggestion). Anyway so I figured out if you remove the 4 screws labeled "C", the bottom panel easily slides away. W90Vp is very happy with the 12gb, posted fine and Vista recognizes it all.

Last upgrade is I have a 120gb vertex on the way. I probably won't make it my OS drive, I'll probably use it for games and mostly static content. I had one of the OCX cores and though I applied recommended tweaks, it was not the best experience. Intermittent stuttering and what's worse is let's say I was copying a big file to the SSD, if I tried to do any other simultaneous copying to the SSD, only part of the original file would make it. Crazy stuff.

Guess it's time to update my sig. :)

can you use your htc as a wireless modem??
i have that phone and have been trying that for some time with no luck. i had to buy a data card from sprint. i could do it with my ppc6700, but right when i switched phones...sprint said they we're kicking the wireless phone modem to the side and just running data cards....

and you could have used bluethooth...i think it still works....haven't done any of that stuff in a long time.

i love my vertex, but it was a bit further away from the intel drive till ocz came out with that firmware update. that pretty much stabilized it. as long as it's not a jmcron controller...all is well.... or did they improve it now?

Mine is unlocked and the ungelded software from htc includes an applet to use the phone as a modem. No extra cost for tethering either. I have no idea what might be doable with the sprint version of the phone. To be sure the phone can do it, its just a matter of software. A quick trip over to xda will tell you more than you ever wanted to know if you wish to bone up on it.

ah yes...the xda site...spent many a long nights skimming through there... :)

im going to check it out and see...sprint is kind of funny...if your phone starts doing more data than the phones bandwidth...i think they try to charge you for it when your bill comes. we shall see though.....

You dont have to worry about doing more data than your phone bandwidth because the phone is your modem and it is the limit of your bandwidth. The reason your phone doesnt do tethering with the oem software is that the carriers all want to try and charge you extra for it. Another way to skin one of the humps so as to keep the champagne flowing on the corporate jet. This is the beauty of unlocked phones, they have no idea what I am doing or what software is on my phone. Just how it should be...

i think i explained that part wrong...

a laptop pulls way more information than a phone does. and over time sprint got a bit smarter. they set up flags...
the easiest way to tell is by the browser it self...

but im going to test it out though. no since in paying an extra 55 bucks a month if i don't have to. and considering i was using the ppc6700 for like a year and a half on the usb modem. it was all to the good.

say, do you have a 5 gig cap on your data transfer or are you out of that loop as well?

I wouldn't know, my data needs are small as far as the cell phone goes. I just need to get email, surf, with a file download here and there. No tube, heavy file transfers, etc. Realistically with at&t as long as you don't use a lot of data and have an unlocked phone you will never be called to the carpet. I have done so for many years and so does everyone I work with, all of us being people who fly to work. I have never seen nor heard of anyone or known anyone who knew anyone who has had a problem with this. Now days kids download in the gigs on their dumbphones hauling down utube and the like. We aren't worth worrying about.

tis is true krabman, but they we're plotting on cutting all that out a few months ago. and came with this 5 gig cap. sprint was the first carrier to fall in line....i was seriously think of shaking them, but they said the other carriers we're about to follow suit. so no news on this as of yet huh? then that might b a good thing.

me, im doing remote desktop to multiple servers and work stations along with trouble shooting client machines. doing updates and moving files around from the mobile station to the computer in question. i still haven't came anywhere near the limit of 5 gb, so im good there. i also can download at about 2.3 mb per second in a good area.... these cell data carriers have came along way from 128kb...lol

oops, looks like att does have a 5 gb limit.

I use this app... I usually tether my ppc-phone to my netbook when using the app, but it can also broadcast like a wireless router. It supports 64 bit and 128 bit encryption and can be set to 'keep alive' to keep your connection from shutting off. Unlimited plan should mean unlimited ;)

I have the Mogul (ppc6800)from sprint which is an HTC and I have the internet sharing app on it. basically just needs activesync/mobile device center to work. (and the service activated from sprint.)

I too had the ppc6700 with the wireless modem feature with unlimited internet service for $15. I replaced that phone under insurance, but they had no more ppc6700's so they gave me the Mogul. Came to a harsh reality when I found out this used the new network and the charge for "phone as modem" was $15 on top of a $30 internet charge, monthly. Got them down to $30 for the total package since they never warned me prior to switching phones... but if you were to use your phone as a modem, you would be a bit slower than your aircard, and would only save ~$10 a month.

Total bandwidth caps are another story. I thought you were asking what I was using specifically. AT&T has been letting people go for some time who used excessive bandwidth. The only thing that has changed is they have recently put a number on what constitutes excessive. Hit that and you will be asked to put your nose in the corner.

Dont have any software installed that will give me that info (overseas and it takes days, literally, to download anything large). How big of a file is FRAPS? and where would I download it (if it is less than 25MB) and I will gladly run it to let you know.

Quick update on my W90vp-x2 multiple RMA's since 4/30 --

I got a call this morning and they are replacing the unit. A bad graphics card and they are waiting for the next shipment to come stateside which I was told has an estimated ETA of 5/25 --
I'm good with this, if it means I am getting 4870's that have the issues worked out and possibly better stock drivers. We'll see and maybe I won't sell it after all.

Now I have a G1s that goes back RMA after the w90 arrives :)

Yep. You are in the same boat as the rest of us. I am just glad they are fixing the issue instead of trying to spin doctor out of the responsibility of fixing the cards.

It really says a lot about a company like Asus.

I run in ultra but change AA to 2x and ani to 8. If I recall right it defaults to 4 and 15. As reported by fraps mine stays in the 50s mostly with some dips into the 40s and sometimes locked on 60. Being fallout3 however I occasionally get a glitch where the frame rate drops down into the teens or even single digits usually when going into a vendor window or npc chat window. Sometimes I can enter a building or fast travel and its back to normal, othertimes I have to restart the game. I never did find a solution for this and in searching it appeared to me that this was a fairly common problem.

This is the 2ghz piece at 2.28 with the 15% clock on the stock utility. I have seldom clocked it higher since I play everything with fluid frame rate at high or maxed settings anyways.
