No worries its always nice when you can contribute in some small way. I have to admit I was surprised by everything that could be done on these phones never having owned a ppc phone before. Now I have a pedometer going for when I walk the dog as an example. Didnt even know it could be done.

very reassuring. rep for the info! thanks.
i wonder what type of FPS you'd be getting if you did overclock higher... -
yes, all good. that new wmwifirouter 1.35 for 29.99 is super easy to use.
another great compliment to the w90..wireless internet on the go...lol
yes, the ati mobility radeon 4870 crossfire is faster than one gtx280.
as for the rest...it's pretty much up in the air since the gtx280 machines can't seem to over clock the cpu/fsb
viciousxusmc(w90-4870) holds the single fastest card record at 6800+ gpu, followed by tester(gt725-4850) at 6400+ gpu followed by quadzilla(w90-4870) at 6300 gpu followed by anothergeek(np5797-gtx280m) at 6200 gpu (vantage mark)
so as of right now...the 4870/4850's seem to be faster at benchmarking. and in the gaming area with AA. they are faster. without AA the gtx is faster.
they are starting to compile some numbers from users of different laptops here.

She has arrived.
I will not be available for some time... W90 and I will be gettin quite intimate... and I got that stamina.
I plan to caress her hard drive until all of her data blocks are distant memory.
Then I am going to massage some Vista oils over all areas of that 320gb frame of hers. Im thinkin x64 Ultimate sensation... so she can open all her resources.
Then im going to slide down to those X2s of her and Im gonna flash those babies real good... get her excited.
Next im gonna "Driver" her up the right way... 9.4 style... You like that huh?
After that its Maximum Strength time... give her my Crysis Warhead. She how she handles that.
...
Then Ill take a break and tell my homies how good it was before round two...
Ya dig! -
i would check to make sure asus didn't change anything... before flashing them cards....
they may have fixed that..who knows..(speculation of course) -
They go up almost by percentage with the overclock based on the fiddling I have done. These gpus appear to be heavily cpu bound. I have had mine up and rock stable at 2.5 some for a fairly long period. I also had it at 2.6 something or other where it was completely stable but I didnt run it long enough in as many programs as I would like to say yes this is as stable as the stock clock. Im pretty sure it is though, I ran crysis for a few hours, prime, a couple other apps. To be honest I havent found out where my cap is yet. I will probably probe the limits when I am up north where I have periods of time to kill. Going back to fallout the AA makes a huge difference. When I hit ultra and jumped in the frame rate was in the 20 to 30 range outdoor and 30 to 40 indoor. I was ok with the interior frame rate but wanted more outdoors. Dropping the AA to 2x makes it fluid everywhere. The ani had less impact.

i did too.just waiting for the asus w90 -
Another update,,, Just got a call and the ETA for the next batch of W90vp-x2's is 6/1 , not 5/25 as previously thought.
I am seriously hoping the 4870's come with different drivers in this batch!
fingers crossed! -
call from who?
and hopefully this doesn't apply to the a1's... -
Do you think they might release revised a PCB revision?

I think this guy has the record:

matter of fact, i know he doesn't.

Sorry I have been out of the benchmarking scene for a while, I think there are a bunch of synthetic benchmarks that have popped up since I was benchmarking. I thought 3DMark was still the pinnacle for gaming laptop benchmarking?
I don't care about PI and Cinabench numbers.
Maybe we can put together a test of 4 or 5 applications to grade our systems?
-
yeah, what striker said!
so as far as us who have been following that since it was made public...yes he has the 3dmark06@1280x1024 record.
everything else...is held by many members floating through these forums. -
This mystery about what is going to change is killing me

Hi guys, just join here..hope you can help me... im so confused either to choose W90 or Sager NP 9280. I'm a Gaming person but also IT Admin (use Virtual machine), sager have i7,3 bay HD w/raid option. W90 had the VGA..my god witch one

Welcome to the 1 million dollar question

does it need special tools to installed 12 GB ram or it just simple plug n play?

AFAIK, its play and play on 64 bit OS.
Striker, heck of a set up you have there; maybe you spent too much perfecting that beast lol.

My tech support rep at Asus where my w90 is now -- waiting for a replacement unit.
The second call today was the update they received by email from Taiwan.
It applies to the x2-s and they use the same gpu as the A1, so I don't know. -

Here are some pics of my W90VP side by side with my OCZ Whitebook
Kinda shocking, but the W90 is not as big as I envisioned. It feels like a mildly thicker HDX18T
Then again, I was thinking HDX9000.....
Clean Vista Install.
Pulled the Q9000 (put it in my daughter's 1722 to keep it warm. Moved the T9600 to my Whitebook which will be going up for sale most likely in the next week or so)
Vantage with stock ASUS drivers = P9842 w/ QX9300 OEM (Stock, no OC)
Vantage GPU = 9765
Vantage CPU = 10082
BIOS = 0502
Just finished playing WoW for an hour. Ran flawlessly.
Flawless screen
Performing as expected.
One pleasant surprise that isn't conveyed in a lot of the pictures is the larger keys on the keyboard. For my big neanderthal mitts, that rocks.
I'll probably flash the GPUs in the next week or so depending on if I need 9.X drivers.
*Very* quiet when gaming.Attached Files:

Aristotelhs2060 Notebook Virtuoso
guys is the sound quality of w90 good or crap as i have read on some reviews?
-
I had occasion to pull out the ol clevo a few times since I got this one and I can say with some conviction that I will not go back to 17" without some fairly compelling reason. I would use the word never but I don't want to jinx myself.
-
Aristotelhs2060 Notebook Virtuoso
someone please answer my question. is the sound the downside of w90? some of the reviews were confusing telling that the middle speaker only sounds different or the frequencies are not reproduced well doing a buzz and generally that it has not as good sound as other laptops. please your comments will be appreciated

It is hard to go back to smaller screens. I used a M-ALX last year and when I went back to a 17" for awhile, i felt the pain. Then I used a HDX9000 (20.1") for a few months for a scraped "man room," and that screen was just gorgeous. If it had a heartier GPU subsystem, I would have probably kept it even with the older chipset. Alas, WoW put a whuppin' on it ALI style. -
I don't think that you really can expect good quality from onboard speakers in a notebook
-
electrosoft Perpetualist Matrixist
The best sounding subsystem I, personally, experienced in a notebook was the HDX9000. Great sound from that beastie.
Worst was the Dell M6400/M4400. But they are workstations first and foremost, so I understand.
With that being said, I just tried out a Blu-Ray disc, and the sound quality is pretty decent, but as always the best is via a dedicated external system or headphones. -
Laptop sound is like dog turds. One is pretty much the same as the next and aint none of them pretty. I dont have any buzzing and the sound is similar to the clevo it replaced or my wifes acer. The sound volume is up to the task of being heard in a crowded room. Bout all that can be said for it.
-
Well I don't consider any laptop to sound all that great with their internal speakers. The W90 is arguably slightly above average in this regard, with movies and games sounding decent enough. Music seems a bit lacking though.
You're better off hooking the W90 up to a nice stereo/surround system or plugging in a decent set of headphones for a much improved sound experience. -
BRAKES!!!
do me one favor...
try the 4870 in the whitebook. see if it will even boot up.
glad to see you finally got your system!
i want to know if the whitebook, running a 4870 will out perform the w90...since everyone is dieing to know... AW/whitebook/nagamaki
and if it does work....which one is better....
i wouldn't be so quick to shake the whitebook just yet...
-
Just use headphones, you can get a pair of Grado's for $60-80 and call it a day or you can always attach external speakers.
-
i guess we'll know for sure in 6 days! but i remember someone saying that xotic was getting an a1 shipment in on the 18th?

dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
eletrosoft, i have a few questions to ask you.
comparing 1920*1200 or 1920*1080, can you see the difference? which do you like better?
how are the temps compared to each?
how is the weight between them?
is the 18.4 vs the 17.1 noticable?
how is the temps?
the quality of the key board between them?
the sound quality, is it big or small. do you hear the bass nicely?
how is the mouse pad?
how much features do you like between them?
what made you think about the asus?
do you think you will miss the backlit light if you used them?
which one do you prefer bios overclock or software overclock?
omg i have been thinking about my whitebook or the asus for a sometime. it is the speakers and the gpu's and the x16 when crossfire is active that i want. otherwise i love my whitebook. i just need to hear it from someone else who has both systems side by side in there hands.
also can you run some benchmarks and see how big is it? -
well..you know this thing has been floating for ever now...time to see if ocz was telling stories or not.
and looking at the heat sinks of both, back when this idea first surfaced.. i said that heat sink wouldn't work for the 4870's. and a bunch of people had something to say about that then......probably still holds true today. and AW could be making a new heat sink for them to run theirs. (speculation of course)
whitebook
w90
a gtx heat sink and fan or m980nu
yeah striker...i still don't think it's gonna work..but worth a try while a competent laptop owner has both machines in his hands....
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
well the current fan can't even control the 3870's.
we are making a cooling mod in the ocz forums for it. we just started and we have ideas it is just to put it into practice.
the one fan wasn't a great idea from the start i should say. even when crossfire is disabled, one will hit 81 and the other will hit 65. and the idle is around 50.
here is a warm day
so i can see why it was delayed. i re applied paste to it. but haven't tested it much because i have been very busy.
i notice that the 4870's in the asus is a mxm 4 but is in mxm 3 slots??????????? and it works?????????? mmmmm.
i think if they where in mxm 4 slot it would provide alot better performance and alot better overclock. there is links saying that the extra piece is for power.
so maybe one 4870 in the whitebook (because of the the one mxm-4 slot and one mxm-3 slot) will yield better performance and alot better overclock then the asus with one mxm-3 slot. -
the whitebook would only be able to run one 4870 at the moment..that's even if it works...because they don't make a crossfire cable for it.(speculation of course)(and im seriously guessing at this point)
side note:
to get rid of double posting...
1: copy all info from second post then delete second post.
2: edit 1st post and then paste all info there.

dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
bam done. Lol. well i think the crossfire slots on the cards is the same. and if it isn't then it won't work. i tried to force crossfire on my notebook without the cord and it was hopeless.

I like 1920@1080 @ 18.4 better than 1920x1200 @ 17. The LCD panel quality is better on the W90 IMHO. The difference is noticeable, but partially may be a glossy factor. Size wise, it is almost the same difference between a 15.4" and a 17" (1.6" vs. 1.4").
The Whitebook definitely feels lighter by a few pounds. Chassis wise, the W90 is built like a tank like other owners have said. Both Power Supplies are behemoths and the dismal battery life from both was to be expected.
Temps wise, no comparison. Not only is the W90Vp running much cooler on the QX9300 (the Heatsink is a beast), but under load it is very quiet. I didn't realize how loud the Whitebook was, but the family sure did. Even the 4870s run very quiet under load, but those fans push some nice hot air out the back. The reports of the W90Vp running very quiet are accurate. The bigger chassis, better Heatsinks really shine.
Keyboard wise, I prefer the W90Vp because the keys are bigger than a standard notebook keyboard. For reference, my favorite laptop keyboards of all time are the Thinkpads (circa 2000) and for recent models, the Gateway 78XX series. The Whitebook does have a softer, longer travel though. The W90Vp key presses feel very similar to the new Macbook keyboards.
Sound quality wise, no comparison. The W90Vp crushes the Whitebook (in the context of laptop sound systems), and it does spacing very nicely. I was rather surprised by the nice sound output in WoW earlier and the panning. Decent little bit of base, but I use a Klipsch on my desktop so I'm jaded.
Mousepad is nice, but the buttons are a little stiff, IMHO. I use an external mouse with laptops 90% of the time though. The buttons on the Whitebook are better. Whitebook keyboard and trackpad buttons are softer with much better and expected travel IMHO. I'll take the trade off with the W90 and the larger keys.
Outside of the smaller form factor, I am hard pressed to find an advantage of the Whitebook over the W90Vp at this moment. Everything is in the W90Vp's favor except the size (if that is a criteria) and the stiff trackpad buttons. I do not like the volume/media controls to the left of the W90Vp's keyboard and those were disabled immediately and the initial install and ~19 utilities available for the W90Vp are a lot of crapware.
I left the W90Vp running WoW on a flat surface with no rear elevation and it ran fine and whisper quiet. If I were to do that with the Whitebook, temps would be 10-15 higher and it would be huffing and puffing. IMHO, the W90Vp is of a much higher quality level than the Whitebook. The cooling system reminds me of the M6400's cooling when I had one with a QX9300 and I was comparing it to my HDX18T with a QX9300 and it showed what a really quality cooling system (and ~.5-.75 thicker chassis) can do with the same chip.
Performance wise, with stock drivers, their 3Dmark06 scores with a QX9300 OEM were basically identical (~14.5), but Vantage GPU showed a ~3.5-4k gain over the Whitebook with both running Xfire. The W90Vp and the 9800GTX/280 are in a different league with next gen benchmarks and gaming IMHO than the 3870's. I had said earlier I was starting to look towards Vantage GPU as my new benchmark criteria instead of 3Dmark06.
As for what made me think about it, the M98 is delayed beyond my window of need (I'll be traveling a lot starting in a few weeks) and when it does land I honestly don't think the 280M's in SLI are going to be heads and tails above the 4870's (well......4850++'s
) in the W90Vp and the 130W i7 in the D900F and the 17" screen only offering WUXGA+ and a single GPU were a major concern (Let's face it......WoW is my primary concern heh).
Many trips will be with the ball and chain and with the look she was giving me along with my daughter with light usage due to the noise in the living room with the TV on, I knew the Whitebook was a no go (I wouldn't be able to sit up late in the hotel room(s) / condos and game while they slept). Last year, we were stuck in the condo when Fay hit and all I did was play EQII for 4 days (went from level 20->40 on my Priest (all rested) if that gives you an idea).
The final nail was raiding in WoW on the Whitebook this last week and some Arenas. That's where things got a little chunky. For example, Sapphiron on heroic Naxx. Everything dropped to single digits after his frost blast. That was with 9.4's installed. I could dial back the details, but my objective is to run WoW with everything to max (except shadows), and for most parts I do get 60fps maxxed out, but raiding is what I do primarily.
I wasn't going to pull the trigger, but in case you're wondering who snatched up that $1900 BIN eBay model that was discussed earlier, it was me.
I had just finished a 5v5 and it was very chunky and I realized I needed something with a little more punch. System arrived in great shape with a April 2009 build date. It included an extra 320GB HD, a slot loading BR Drive / DVD/CD burner and Vista Ultimate OEM installed. It was a great deal, especially considering Newegg charges me sales tax in NJ, so the actual price for me would have been $2450 +$150 tax = $2600 + $250 for the extras (Vista Ultimate OEM, 320GB WD 7200rpm 16mb cache, Slot loading BR) and the seller was very knowledgeable and nice. Like many find out, the system is too big for them. After doing a custom install, I realized I should have just kept his install (heh) he did such a nice job with it. I will probably end up getting a X25-M 80GB as my primary and move the 320GB to secondary.
I think the Backpack is very underrated. I was rather happy with the construction, build and look of it.
I will definitely miss the backlight of the Whitebook. Like with the M6400, I grew rather fond of it, but it isn't a deal maker or breaker.
I definitely prefer BIOS overclock. I prefer to keep it as low level as possible and not have to rely on software/OS. I like being able to mix and match FSB and multiplier OC'ing. But in the end, it's no different than using memset to optimize your memory. Also, the Asus BIOS can only get better (in theory
).
I will continue to compare them side by side and run tests, as both are running at 2.53ghz right now. If I truly want to equalize the playing field, I will need to flash the W90Vp's cards so both can run 9.4. But like I said, outside of the key/mouse button travel (and size if that is a concern), I can't really find an advantage of the Whitebook atm over the W90Vp. I am really impressed with how cool and quiet the W90Vp runs with all this hardware under the hood. -

It was one of those timing things. I had literally just finished wanting to chuck my laptop after laggy performance and coming off of the single digit frames raiding some hours before and the only real, viable upgrade in the now from the OCZ Whitebook (because it is still a very capable rig) was the W90Vp or a NP9262, and I saw it, hesitated, said, "ah well, that's what credit card protection is for," and pulled the trigger.
Here it is:
