To me, they're one and the same. If you get an extreme chip, your best bet is to flash it with the OCZ/Asi BIOS which many have done to take advantage of their extreme chips.

As far as read/write. I would be ok with the intels faster read slower write as not often do you write files, but all the time you read them. Well I guess that could vary per person.
Intel has an ever so slightly faster seek too.
But the Vertex $307 AR right now, thats as cheap as I have seen. Not really looked around for Intel deals. -

WoW on my old M6400 with a Quadro 3700 (basically a mildly underclocked 280M), was fine for most gameplay, but it lagged in Dalaran like my Whitebook did and 25 man raids saw drops into the low 20's and like I said earlier, single digits on Sapphiron. Terrain to max in certain areas also bogged it down. I heard Ulduar is even more taxing graphically, but I haven't had time to get my Druid in there yet.
The W90 has shown much better performance so far in Dalaran and Arenas, and I'll get a chance to test it as my Druid is in group right now for Heroic Naxx (Ran my Hunter and Druid through 10 man earlier this week and that's where Sapphiron reduced my frames to single digits). if Naxx plays out like Arenas/Dalaran/Sholazar/Icecrown have on the W90 vs. the Whitebook, I will be very pleased. -

What public areas can I see that are supposed to be hard to render in WoW? I play on a private server and have not played in like a year.
I just got the latest expansion and I am lvl 70 and managed to find the sunwell town, but I am lost from there.
I totally do not know where all those dungions are -
To get to Northrend, you can either take the Zep from Org (take a right when leaving the gate) or take it from Undercity (left tower instead of right tower)
The Orgrimmar zep will take you to Borean Tundra and the UC zep will go to Howling Fjord.
To get to Dalaran, you can either get a mage to port you, lock to summon or get your way into Crystal Song to take the portal up. -
electrosoft Perpetualist Matrixist
Settings:
Everything to Ultra, Shadows to low/zero
Areas that will make your fps suffer:
Dalaran (sit outside the bank and look around)
Naxx 25 (Heroic, some areas)
Icecrown
Howling Fjord (open areas)
Sholazar Basin
Note:
If you dial down the details/resoluton and then say, "wuts yer problem?! WoW runz fine dude....lrn2plylolz!" Then you fail, because the idea is to pump everything to max and see WoW as intended.
If playability at any cost was the defining criteria, I could still be using my M-ALX with everything to medium. Heck, even an MSI 623 with 4500 integrated graphics will run WoW if you crank everything to low, but that's not the idea.
How to get to Northrend:
Alliance: Menethil Harbour or Stormwind (Boats)
Horde: Ogrimmar / UC (Zeps) -

You can port from Dalaran to just about every major city, just not to it from Shatt.
Get a mage to give you a port to Dalaran or a lock to summon you. -

Until then I'll stay away.
Its a good way to save money and stay out of trouble though, $15 a month is a lot cheaper than going out drinking or dating or something.
Im too competitive to play a game like that casually, I need to lvl fast, get the best gear etc... So I end up playing way too much, and if you want a good guild so you can actually do those things they make you play a lot too. Before you know it you have more obligations for things to do on/in WoW than you do real life.
Im glad I quit, the private server I played on is not nearly as bad as it has like a 100x XP rate and 60x item drop rate, so instead of raiding a dungeon 100 times to get your gear you get it first time through, and so PUG are actually doable for a dungeon due to people having the gear to do it.
I kinda miss FFXI a lot also, its not the same as WoW but it was great in its own ways, definitely more "hardcore" than WoW. -

does the W90Vp-A1 has a working ir receiver or not?
i mean it doesnt have remote control but does it have ir receiver? i have an hp remote control from my old (before 2 years) laptop. will it work ? -
Yea 700 baby....
NICE! -
A little wow diatribe if I may since it came up...
There is the misconception in WoW that once you level to the max (60, 70, now L80) you are done leveling, and that while it took a long time it didn't take all that long to get to the max level compared to more "hardcore" rpgs.
However it is actually a lot of work, timesink, and skill getting maxxed out in WoW. While its true that you can level up to 60, 70 , or 80 questing somewhat easily -other than the large amount of time it takes --- in order to get a full set of endgame gear and stay on that edge you have to participate weekly in dungeon raids to get your guild 'currency' points high enough , called DKP. The highest DKP person gets choice to spend his DKP on the items that drop.
DKP in a nutshell........
So say you go on the dungeon raid for the 20th week in a row and the sword of decrapitation drops that you wanted. The sword costs 300 DKP , you have 1300 DKP banked with your guild, but two other people in the dungeon raid group have 1500 DKP and 2600 DKP. They would get first choice since their totals are higher. Mr 2600 DKP passes on the sword but Mr 1500 DKP decides to take it. Next time you raid the sword winner is now at 1200 dkp vs your 1300 DKP so you would get choice of items ahead of him until you spend down your points. This is a simplification of the DKP system but shows in general that you have to be a regular participant.
You also have to be willing to repeatedly die for no reward at all on new content, (in fact for a penalty since you have to repair your gear that gets damaged every time you die) - for weeks at a time until your guild starts to master the new content. In addition to all that you have to do daily quests and other quests to get your reputation up with certain races/polical groups (called factions) in order to get the rewards they give for being honored or exalted with them. You need these rewards to further enhance your power in the dungeon raids with gear and enchantments for the good of the guild, so the guild can successful go further in the dungeons and defeat new content, and get new more powerful gear.
So in summary, in WoW anyone can get to the max level number-wise (Level 80 currently), but in actuality your gear (and to an extent your reputation ratings with factions) levels you beyond that point. Every so often a new game patch comes out with a new dungeon, and that dungeon has better gear that essential puts those who obtain it at a higher 'level' than those that don't. In order to get the best gear you have to put much more effort in - studying and learning tricky boss fights, mastering your character's abilities, participating regularly to get your DKP up, doing world quests for rewards to enhance your character and your guild runs further, etc. -
AHHHH No more wow. STOP ARGarwyrawrawrawr your making me want to start again!

stop wow tell me if hp remote control works with asus w90 ir receiver. its more important
how can you live without remote control for this laptop? -
I know there's an IR receiver mounted top left of the screen, if it will work with your hp remote i have no clue.
Question to all the benchers out there, i cant get cpuid hwmonitor to detect Video card temps... any ideas? -
I don't know about the IR on this asus, but there are 3rd party usb IR devices and remotes you can use if you wanted to, especially if you have a media area set up just for the laptop where you could plug in a usb line to a usb hub and have everything kick in.
I used to have a 25' hdmi cable and a usb cable wrapped around my living room walls hidden behind bookshelf, chair and back of couch to a little laptop station where I would run media off my hp media notebook to my hdtv. The usb line was to a hub with a firefly remote, wireless keyboard, wireless mouse, and a usb optical drive, etc.
To be honest I'd rather use a wireless mouse than a remote anyway. -
Aristotelhs2060 Notebook Virtuoso
ok i just wanted to now if there is an ir receiver which finally exists. i ll test my hp remote control when i finally get asus w90. i also ordered an avermedia remote control for my tv tuner which i hope it will work too.

This is probably due to the odd design and setup of the cards, even Everest didnt pick them up.
The ATI software works though and it has temps for both cards, I dont know if it can do a temp log or something so you can go game and come back later to check the temps. -
I've got an odd problem that i've noticed since I started using the W90. My wireless internet connection intermittently hiccups (usually disconnecting my WoW session). I've resorted to pinging 2 known hosts while playing and just letting that run forever.
I know there is a known issue with Vista where for example if you click Start-->Connect To-->Right click your connection, select properties-->Connection Tab-->If "Connect to a more preferred network if available" is checked then occasionally Vista will search for other networks and will tend to hang your network for a short while. On my W90, this is unchecked so I'm kinda scratching my head.
The reason I know it's not my connection is I have my GS2-A1 sitting here, also connected wirelessly, pinging the same two hosts and when the W90 experiences an interruption, the GS2-A1 does NOT. Here's an example. This was about a 20 second interruption.
I have not attempted to update my wireless driver, I'll probably start there. I just wondered if anybody has seen anything like this.
[Edit] Trying atheros_v7.7.0.231.exe from http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=14833 So far wireless internet works at least... guess I'll continue to keep an eye on it [/Edit]
Thanks,
Mike -

I'll keep poking around... maybe the newer driver will pan out. -
Off Topic: Anybody got a wow character on Dragonblight (pve)?
-
I'd suspect the wireless devices. Try the drivers first but see if you can find a firmware update for it. I'd also see if you can find a firmware update for your wireless router. Whether you find one or not you should probably save your router config, then set it to default settings (or hardware reset it) and reboot it. Some models/brands router and wifi card don't seem to play nice together either for some reason. Make sure there is no interference going on too. If you can try a different wireless device from the same location. There are more things you can do on the router end but the fw updates and resets might do the trick.
I would use a wired connection for gaming whenever possible though. -

Wireless is a deep subject I had a issue long long ago that is Vista related that effected my WoW game I had to turn off Vistas "Auto Tuning" as it didnt seem to work well on my network.

You could always replace the Wireless nic too. It is right under the CPU heatsink. I'm thinking of swapping in this extra Intel OEM 5350 I have sitting around.

my personal opinion...Sager np 9280 its good for future use...although the look its magnificent ugly...and for gaming performance i know asus is unbeat for now..but hey...at least sager will play games (good way) for present game n future (again...my personal opinion)

If I would have to purchase the extended warranty, how long can I wait until the day I buy my laptop? I'm planning just to buy it and wait couple of day to see if the laptop not acting weird. If everything okay, I would purchase the extended warranty.
I'm kinda scare it will broke after 2 years -
Hello.
I am having a pretty serious problem, and I would like to know if any of you have ran into this or if you would know how to fix it.
When I run Steam games, such as Left 4 Dead and Day of Defeat Source, or programs such as Photoshop or Maya, All of a sudden everything turns to some type of Japanese writing and it lags really bad.
An example of this is when I am in game, my computer will start lagging, I will bring up my console to find that letters in Japanese are being typed, and all my language is in Japanese.
When I run Photoshop or Maya, I get a little thing on my screen that says "Finalizing String" and it is all in Japanese.
Also, When I try to save documents, it wont let me type and/or it will trry to save it in some Japanese file name.
It has done this ever since I got it, and I am wondering what the hell the problem is. Attached is a photo of what I am talking about.

Looks like Chinese to me
Id uninstall and reinstall steam to see if that helps -
-
It isn't just Steam. It happens with Photoshop and Maya when I try to save files, as well. It doesn't happen all the time.
I checked my regional settings and those are set correctly.
It is kind of as if when I am in game I am typing in console at the same time when I am pushing buttons to move and whatnot.. Also, when I type into in-game chat is does it, as well.
When I try to save files, it does the same thing. -
Aristotelhs2060 Notebook Virtuoso

When you first set up the system you may have forgot to change the system language as i think it defaults to chinese . It was the first option when you turned on the machine for the first time. -
I remember setting that to English.
When I first start a game or program I can type everything in English. But sometimes it starts out of no where. Then my game starts lagging. If it was just language it would do that the whole time and it wouldn't cause my computer to start lagging.
When it happens, it isn't like I am just typing in Chinese. It highlights all my text and won't let me actually submit any information.
Also, I have noticed that if I am playing Call of Duty 4, sometimes when I am crouch and moving and playing, my guy stays crouch and I lose control of my keyboard and only my mouse works.. Then I start pushing random buttons near my control button, which is my crouch button, and it all works again. -
he can do a windows system recovery to the time before the install or before the problems started....
-
Well if you dont have to much stuff installed already on your OS i would say try a system restore from F9 upon reboot and go from there . Something may just be messed up with the factory install and i would say try that first then if its still screwed up give Asus a ring on the phone.

ok, i think im finally starting to understand it. got my memory running at 2100 mhz at the moment.
time for me to get some pointers from hyperthreadedzilla! lol -
My guild runs 25 man Ulduar... I am hoping that when my w90vp-x2 comes back from Asus, that it can run it better than my G1s does currently with its overheating issues and all ...
I never drop below 16fps in 25 Naxx on the G1s, so I would think the w90 should be blowing through frames like a breeze... -- You say the w90vp goes single digit frames on Saph?
please say it isn't so...
