    What components did you use?

I'm thinking of updating my desktop PC with i7 this summer.
Though my E8500 @ 4GHz+ is doing quite well... So I haven't fully decided to make the change.

    to get my i7 920 to 3.7ghz and stable(Motheboard Asus P6T Deluxe V2)

    CPU V @ 1.29

    BCLK 185

    CPU ratio 20

    A.I Overclock to manual

    Disabled C-states

    Ram 1.65v

Memory to manual 1443mhz (is xmp and rated for 1600mhz but you need to back it down for stability when raising the BCLK)

Rest is pretty much set to Auto but this will vary from board to board

    Idle temps 36 degrees

100% load 8 threads going under BD rebuilder for 3hrs max temp is usually never higher then 73 . Whilst being at full load i can still browse the web, burn discs and do anything else i feel like.

This is on Air Coolermaster V8. Had a Thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreme but didnt have as much success as the V8.

Powersupply is a BFG 850w and does not break a sweat .

No, I was saying the Whitebook (M17) goes single digits on Saph. I mean, you can dial back details and go medium, but whenever I talk fps, it is in the context of Ultra settings, native screen resolution, shadows = off.

We did a clear earlier of Naxx 25 on my druid (already cleared on my Hunter), and I am happy to say WoW performance is easily 25% better if not more than my Whitebook across the board. Saph didn't reduce me to single digits (low 20's) for the blast and everything else has been running great.

So far, I am wickedly impressed, and I'm still running the older drivers without my GPUs flashed to boot. I'll get around to it this week, and I expect performance to pick up even more dramatically. Remember, I was running 9.4's on my Whitebook, and the W90Vp is slapping it around with 8.5X drivers.

I see nothing wrong with a guy who is not trolling (key word is not) posting on a owners thread and asking owners about their notebook or what they think of others in comparison. As to the testing itself they used an extra half a gig of cpu on the nvidia part making the whole article wasted time since both gpus appear to be somewhat cpu bound at less than 2.5ghz. Further the cpu is integral to the operation of the gpu and to make any meaningful comparison similar cpus must be used on both systems.

    So...Striker, hows about post 6960 http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=4853257#post4853257

The 20th is very fast approaching. If you have any comments, that would be cool. If you are under NDA, then that's cool too. As said before, waiting for quality hardware is considerably better than getting flawed hardware now. If you have any info, pleeeeeeease share ;-)

I actually don't think that a W90 or the D900F is enough for me and I'm pretty sure i will never be 100% satisfied with any of them but that's the life... Nothing is perfect :D .

The QX9300 is really good but his price tag is 3,6x bigger than a i7 920 (and the 920 perform much better) so...

But in my opinion the best way ATM is to wait for some D900F reviews, check if it will support CPU overclock (what i highly doubt) and wait for the mystic-top secret-magic new W90 batch and take the decision with a little more than speculations :p .

    BTW 2 days left :x .

Best just wait till after the 20th to order is your best bet . If you already have one on the way and have any issues then dont worry about it as Asus will handle it for you without issue.

I was also considering a clevo striker and I posted here and there while I was in the shopping process. I understand the issues with cross posting but there is also a need to make an informed decision. This cant be done unless you listen to and weigh the comments of owners. Because everyone has a viewpoint and that viewpoint played into their buying decision it helps to know why they did or didn't buy one laptop versus another and what factored into their decision. You cant get a balanced viewpoint without talking to those on both sides of the fence. If someone is trolling that will become evident soon enough.

I'm just wondering how much extra room is inside the Asus W90 backpack?

    Is there enough for a....

    Small USB keyboard?
    Headphones?
One of those little round gaming keyboards that only has the left side keys?
    An extra wireless card?
An extra laptop, say a EEEPC 901?
    100ft cat6 cable?
    50ft cat6 cable?
    40oz of Old English?
    Small package of cigars?
Glock Model 20 and an extra mag?

I'm just wondering if I have to carry 2 bags now.
I know you military guys have some insane kit so don't hold back, if there is a bag or case I can order from Brigade Quartermasters or Blackhawk let me know.

The backpack is HIGHLY underrated in my opinion in the terms of all teh extra little compartments (i found a new packet everyday for the first 4 days 0.o) and even the comfort. Im a student and ive always carried around a 15lbs+ bag so the weight was never an issue but its a very nice bag. Out of your list, if you weren't afraid to pack it up snug id say you could fit fit everything but the bottle of old e. Id go for a mickey of something smaller and stronger in a flask type shape :) Im serious though, i think you could fit most of that, theres a compartment behind the laptop slot that goes against your back. Actually im going to take pictures give me a few.

Ok first pic shows the back part i mentioned above, 18 inch deep and 3 or so inches wide.
    pic1
Next is the laptop sleeve and front mounted 'pouchy', pouch has 2 little bags in the front, i personally put my power cold there and thats about it. The bag inside has no pockets.
    Pic2
Next is a better shot of the front mounted 'pouchy'
    pic3
This is the part i didnt find until like 2 days ago, theres a whole flap that covers that little hanging pouch. I keep my BT mouse in the pouch, you chould stash your extra mag in there to with the 100ft ecable in that front thing all zipped up.
    pic4
Didn't notice this power pouch as i call it until about 3 days into ownership, fits the power brick really nicely, i guess you could store the power cable for the brick in there to if your so wished.
    pic5
and last is the little zipper compartments for the strap flap dealios which i just found when taking the pictures LOL! They go 5.5 inches deep either side.

The bags problem is not its compartments its the capacity.

Once you put the W90 in there and close the bag up it takes up almost the entire inside of the bag, and all of those spaces share the inside of the bag space. None of them are external storage areas. So your going to be smashing your stuff, can that can lead to breaking it or just an uncomfortable fit.

I fit a TON of stuff in my old targus bag with my G50V, now I cant even dare fit 1/5 of it in the W90 back, it would get scratch up, smashed, and its harder to store due to the size/location of the pockets.

If you like the bag its great, but for me the back needs to be replaced soon as I find a better bag big enough, also I dont like the hard plastic shell, makes me feel like im supposed to be wearing armor or something, and its kinda flashy.

I prefer a bag that does not advertise I am wearing over $2000 on my back.

It it does get tighter but i still dont see him off from fitting to much of what he said, the eeepc and the gaming keyboard would push it but i think you could cram a SMALL keyboard in there with it (why though the keyboard on the machine is already fairly decent :) ). For a freebie i was much impressed.

anyways, so nobody has any info on the shipment of w90's? i only ask because RMG made a post earlier stating that he wouldn't get a replacement until the 1st of may... but it seems everybody is talking about this upcoming batch of w90's on the 20th? i hope!!! i can finally get off this crappy HP and stop playing diablo 2.

I agree. The construction is of decent quality and the lappy can safely be carried in it. Neither of which I have ever been able to say about the included freebie. I dont like it though. I had been using a Booq which is top of the line and had better laid out compartments and lots of them. It probably isnt fair to compare a freebie to a 200 dollar case but it shoud be noted that there are better carry options.

Looks are subjective but I dont like bling or flashy in any way and this thing screams out that you like to get mugged and probably have a wallet full of money and that you wouldnt mind rape. Ok, well maybe not rape but I actually had a few comments on the case at the airport and I have never had that happen with any other case.

Overall I give kudos to Asus for providing a case which can actually be used to safely transport a laptop. This is a value added and stands out when you compare it to the normal freebie which is utter garbage and cannot be used to safely carry a laptop.

There is an interesting article on SSD drives on Techreports web site.
    http://techreport.com/articles.x/16848/1
    Check it out.

The Vertex which I was leaning toward to buy didn't seem to do to well.
The Intel still is the champ. Still to darn expensive.

This is sad news as he was a valuable contributer. On the other hand its a wee bit childish, long threads of this nature go off topic from time to time, its the nature of the beast.

Yeah im very worried about taking it to South Africa in that bag, top most dangerous place in the world aside from countries at war 0.o Im thinking of making a foam insert for one of my old old old backpacks i had and then putting it inside that. its a really ratty bag now but would still hold up to someone grabbing at it. I just cant afford a nice bag after buying this beast.

Unfortunate that striker had to go and do this all over for the second time. I really did use that first post for finding all the Asus support numbers, blah. STRIKER: I hope you saved that post in notepad :) Was a wealth of information.

Exactly. This thread is close to 800 pages (stock) if people didnt delete all their messages, of course its going to go off topic at times and to be honest i don't see the problem with that, this is a discussion board and people asking and comparing Nvidia products is fine, hell i would have liked to know how my laptop stacks up against others as well. You can post in both threads and get opinions from both sides of the fence, this is what these boards are for.

That is also what I think I want, since its so big I was going to look for one of those briefcase style holders with wheels and extend able pull along handle.

I have been looking for something along those lines at local places but no joy in the required size. Probably going to have to order at least in my area. I still plan to look a little more first though, I like to get hands on with these things before I purchase.
