Fairly dramatic outcome from a trivial situation. Striker has been very forthcoming of help on this thread.

The Targus XXL is big enough to fit the dam world in, I had one for my Sager 9750 and you could fit 3 of these W90's in there with accesories and stillf ahve room for a 6 pack
If you need a military type back, get one of those bugout bags from the PX and put the asus bag inside it, you protect your lappy and still have expandable room for whatever you need

This the one you guys talking about?

Looks ok for the actual looks but its a regular carring bag so its gonna be heavy to carry that around with one hand, and it does have a shoulder strap but thats not going to be a whole lot better letting that hang and jolt around on you.

I want something like that with the wheels and handle, maybe instead of looking for "notebook cases" I should be looking at travel luggage. Probably cheaper too, since often times you find the same or similar items at way different prices just because of what they are marketed as.

This one says up to 17" but I think some 17" stuff would fit the W90.

Intel X25-M Eh? Man you lucky dog. Im gonna have SSD envy for atleast a year before I can afford one. Id probably gotten the 120GB vertex for more space, but also now Corsair & Kingston both have players in the same league as the Intel & OCZ units.

SSD is good on Vista and should get even better on Win 7 (Win 7 has some special features specifically for SSD in the works to keep the wear and tear down so they run full speed longer, as SSD slow down when pages start to get used though the intel suffers the least from this)

I am really hard pressed to see a need for 12GB personally. I had 8GB in my Whitebook (Before selling them) at one time and 4GB would have worked more than nicely.

Eh thats up to you if it was worth it or not, the Intel has slower write than many others but faster random write. Im not sure yet wich happens more often.

Be sure to give me feedback in a few weeks after you have used it to tell me if you feel you boot faster or games load faster.

I was looking at some real life SSD tests last night and it seems that these things are not doing so great on SSD, its more or less application load time and stuff that they are doing great in.

I also hate to strip two perfectly good 320gb 7200rpm drives out of the W90 to replace them. I would feel better about replacing cheap components or building bare bones.

I guess toss them in external enclosures so you can use them as storage and also have them on hand for RMA if needed.

XXL is a great bag and can hold a lot of weight.

I use one for doing weighted diamond and normal pushups, and I've had 100+ lbs in there and it held it rock solid (2x 40lb DBs, 1x30lb DB and aux weights).

It fit my old HDX18T with room to spare, so I'm sure it can handle the W90Vp.

Yeah but those people in need of 12gb are also probably running dual cpu's and have workstation graphics cards. You tailor the entire system for that kind of work, not just grab a gaming laptop and slap 12gigs in it.

Not really... Taking me as example i don't really need a SMP system (it will be great but i can survive with a quad core :D ) and a trident 3mb is more than enough for my work.

But when u need to deal with 3 virtual machines + 100gig++ databases you really need ram  :D .

I cant see the need for 3 virtual machines, but have at it.

Video rendering uses all my ram, more ram = longer preview but I can work with 6gb easy, 12gb would not be worth the cost at all in my case.

that sucks that striker deleted all his posts. I should have archived some of the info. I always mean to 'just in case' on valuable info and pics in threads but unfortunately I don't always.

I'm still waiting it out on buying one of these but have found a lot of good info in this thread, and responses to questions I had that I'd like to thank everyone for.

I don't know if you noticed, but all that info is available elsewhere, all the flashing and stuff is pointless now because hopefully Asus fixed whatever issues they had with the graphics chip set.

Of course I would just return a laptop I paid $2500 for with issues out of the box. You can buy a killer laptop for $1500 these days. The extra cash is just for the speed crown (for a little while at least) :) :)

I also hope Striker comes back. His information was valuable, and I really liked post #1 containing all those useful links.

When i'm not working, the 12gb is a total waste but for work it's really made a big difference.

Ted Striker: My orders came through. My squadron ships out tomorrow. We're bombing the storage depots at Daiquiri at 1800 hours. We're coming in from the north, below their radar.
Elaine Dickinson: When will you be back?
Ted Striker: I can't tell you that. It's classified.

If I get it working I will package it all up and update the limit breaker stuff with it.

Well, to be totally honest, I have almost no clue about modding drivers and all for this stuff....so..I can wait, if this was UNIX, I would be all over it though. I figued I would give the 9.5 a shot and if dident work, oh well.

Just got a call from Asus about my w90vp-x2... Shipment delayed and they wanted to send me my old system back ( they worried I didn't have any internet access) and then reship the replacement one when they arrive ...and once again have me send my old one back. Phew... too much,,,

I said I would wait it out,, expecting the first week of June is what Georgina(sp) told me..
They were very nice with the offer, but I prefer to see the unit at its peak performance since I am already disenchanted somewhat with my experience thus far.

Newegg updated the ETA of new ones also,, Wishful thinking for the 23rd :)

I've been having problems ever since I bought my unit from newegg close to about 2 months now.
I would like to get an estimate on how many people has done an RMA on there unit already.
Its a great laptop, but its no use to me if its always in a shop to get it repaired especially when it came out the box with problems already.

I'm pretty stoked about the unit I bought. It has been running flawlessly. Then again, so does my Whitebook. I just needed the extra oomph for full details WoW. Perfect screens, performances on both. If I had a compelling reason to keep my Whitebook, I would, but it is redundant atm. I offered it to my daughter (because power wise it decimates her 1722), but all she is worried about is video encoding/decoding and Sims2 and 3, heh. So off to eBay it goes. Once it sells, I'm going to order a Intel X-25M 80GB or Vertex 120GB. Still crunching the numbers.

I'm sure the laws of averages will catch up to me and I got a hum dinger of a lemon in my future.

yes to be honest this is my first choice for now. but a friend above says the dimensions of w90 are above this... is there really anything applying to 18.4 inches? maybe it doesnt affect cooling though
