Call ASUS Notebook Support at 1-888-678-3688, and report EVERY issue you are having with your W90Vp. Request an immediate RMA as a 'DOA Replacement'! Most models built prior to the new shipments we are awaiting had bios issues, bad video cards, and some with bad screens. I am betting you will get a DOA Replacement, in which case, you can expect a new unit.... with a build date of mid to late May. If ASUS opts to repair your existing unit, I'll bet when returned, you will find a new bios, and new video cards..... and no further complaints (for now).![]()

oh this is perfect. anywhere to buy from though? -
Done...
22 may now
-
Yes send that thing back and dont hesitate , thats what the warranty is for . The people at Asus are very cool and easy to deal with and like Striker said they will most likely just ship you a brand new unit that will hopefully be issue free. They seem to know there is problems with the units that are out there now thats why your odds are youll get a new machine instead of a repair.

I would not count on it, just the mention of the June 2 date would indicate to me it will be the later. It is something I did expect as when I did order the ETA was May 22. This to me in my experience, know matter how good the company, was not a firm date. I knew this going into the purchase and I for one would rather they work out all the bugs.
Soooo sit back and hope we get are W90's by June 2, If we get them earlier than Great! -
Aristotelhs2060 Notebook Virtuoso
so ours can be one with problems? many w90s appeared to have such problems? -
I'm wondering if exist anyone with a problem free W90 lol
-
Havent had any issues at all with mine
-
Ok I have had enough. I am canceling my order. This is complete nonsense....
Wait for a $2500 laptop that may or may not have significant hardware issues?
Nope.
Keep it.
Thanks for the laughs guys. -

Mine is running rock solid w/ a QX9300 OEM inside. -
I miss the heck out of mine and i never had any issues aside from the screen was distorted on the left side which could happen to any machine you buy not just the W90. I ran the heck out of the first one i had and it was rock solid as well . I had to sell the RMA unit i got right away because i had to and not because i wanted to . The W90 is an amazing machine there is no doubt about it . -

I can assure you, the WAIT is for good reason. Many of the previously produced units had issues...... issues which ASUS has identified, and corrections have been implimented to insure the best possible W90Vp when shipments resume. Patience WILL be a virtue, in this case...... and $2500 (actually $2399) will still be a bargain for the technology and performance.
-
I couldn't agree more.
-
Aristotelhs2060 Notebook Virtuoso
ok i was thinking the same. i cannot explain this delay an other way. if its for good reasons then i can wait 1-2 days more..
just kidding. i still selecting my essentials. -
Might as well hang on to your order a little longer. There are a couple clevo's hitting soon that are likely worth a look before dumping the ching so you have a little time to kill. If I was of a like mind I would call my reseller and tell him I want him to hang onto my unit after it arrives there for long enough that I could confirm the bugs were fixed before they ship it. This is assuming it wasnt the default configuration and being drop shipped. In that case I would probably cancel. Mine has been flawless so there is hope.

I receved a call form Asus today saying my replacement lappy which I got from Gentech a month ago and returned after using it for only 1 day will be delayed for at least another two weeks
One good thing is that they are sending overnight my old one that they say they repaired! When I receve the new W90 I will send the old one back... I was thinking I could try all the great tweaks and limit breaking guides I have read in this forum. It could be my own test machine. It will be less stressful knowing I have my new W90 coming in a few weeks incase things go wrong
I am wondering if we will have to still use the modded drivers and bios etc
to get the next gen W90 running at full potential ? -
Any word on if Asus will be releasing BIOS updates to bring current W90Vp's up to spec with the newly to be released units?
(Is it even required for seemingly good working units?). -
If they dont release it publicly then someone with a new unit could back up there bios just as easy and spread the joy if it brings any fixes ie more voltage to the CPU
.
-
Aristotelhs2060 Notebook Virtuoso
new bios is something to come later after the new shipment. i am worried about all these problems...
-
Well the new bios could also bring fixes for current problems so ya just never know . Either way id be all over wanting a new bios if it meant more Voltage(if i still had one) because that is the only thing holding it back . With the cooling in this system you could run a Qx9300 all day long at 3.5ghz no problem.
-
electrosoft Perpetualist Matrixist
Yeah, the cooling system in this thing is beast and ridiculously quiet.

Evening guys.
I got a call from Asus today, They told me that they want to replace my unit completly instead of repair it for me, and they have none in stock, ETA is the 1st week of June.
They told me they would repair my RMA'ed unit and overnight it to me so I would have a computer to use while I wait for the shipment, then pay for overnight back when the new shipment is in, and then overnight me the brand new replacement.
Id say thats pretty significant customer service offering me a compromise like that and free overnight shipping the whole way through. I turned them down though and said I would just wait. Only because its hard for me to find the time to go ship out my unit and I get all paranoid making sure all my documents are in order and everything is in the box.
This is probably because Ken has been calling to check on my RMA for me
-
Yeah the guy a few posts above yours got that same call for his machine and the same offer (also bought from gentech) , they must really be doing some major overhauls to the machine for it to take this long . Im sure its going to be worth the wait in the long run .
-
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
I just hope the pll is the same
im sure it is I think i t would be a bit much for a full mobo change.
-
Huge sigh.....
Computer has been working just fine, no problems to date. But twice today it did the grey vertical lines and the screen went off (backlight still on). Once these new machines come out, i'll put in for an RMA. This is already my 2nd laptop. Guess this one wasn't immune to problems. This is the SAME thing that happened to my first laptop and they ended up replacing it. Same EXACT problem. (well the first one had a bright red pixel too)
Will keep an eye on it for now..... damn shame.
I'm not worried because Asus service is so freakin sweet. One guy there I dealt with (Fred) is the KING. -

Im still going to call defective GPU's but question is, are the GPU's defective from ATI or is it something Asus is doing to them that is breaking them.
-
Ya i dont think they would change the whole motherboard design when most of the issues stem from the Cards, but never say never i always say.
-
Yeah Asus customer service FTW
.
-
-=$tR|k3r=- Notebook Virtuoso
Hmmmm..... significant customer service, indeed! Quite an offer!
Appears to me that ASUS anticipates possible delays, beyond the 'first-week-in-June'. -
Aristotelhs2060 Notebook Virtuoso
what ? you also have problems?
Quadzilla it seems you are the only one who didnt have any problems and this may be due to the few days you used it?
even if Asus has good service the whole procedure of sending and taking a new one is a pain on the neck. for me replacement is a proof of their guiltiness and not much more.
and i am not in America!there is worldwide support and warranty right? -
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
yep gpu issues on mine, didnt break the laptop just kept it from being the way it should be so I sent it back.
-
Hey MK, I was having the exact same problem when I first received mine, but it just stopped happening and everything is running fine now. I have no idea what fixed it though, so I cant be of any help.
-
Aristotelhs2060 Notebook Virtuoso
let me summarize then: gpu problems with blank screen or lines on screen on 95% of the w90s. nice percentage.
i really hope a bios update will fix it. actually i hope that it is not due to burned gpus but due to bios malfunctions.
my previous hp had also the same problem (blank screen) without entering even bios, lights on) and so i changed the whole motherboard as the gpu was onboard.after changing motherboard the problem reappeared and so i decided not to fix it again. nvidia 8600 on board.
in the case of w90 gpus are not on board so can be changed easily but i hope its not a motherboard issue. -
I used my Unit for a little over a month without any major problems aside from the screen. I never had GPU issues on the first one and the second one i never got to use long enough to find out if there were any . Yes there is Worldwide warranty so dont sweat it as they will take care of you . I have an itching feeling much like striker that Asus is expecting delays beyond june 1 but for your guys sake who are waiting i would hope not .
-
Aristotelhs2060 Notebook Virtuoso
the repeated delay tells me that they still didnt fix the problem and still testing anyway.
-
I doubt 95% of he laptops are having these issues, and if you read my post, the problem was prevelant for about 4 days on mine and hasnt happened since. So I simcerely doubt it is a bad gpu. I didnt update the bios, but I flashed my second gpu to the upgrade vbios, couldnt install 9.4 drivers and reflashed back to the original vbios and reset the drivers to original. That was the first day and I was ready to RMA as soon as I returned to a larger base, but after 4 days it stopped with the screen going crazy and blank (backlight on) issue.
-
well, if they keep delaying it i might have to cancel my order and go with another lappy. these problems should've arised with testing before the unit was released... i mean, if it is that prevalent of a problem, it should've been noticed...
as stated earlier, i find it funny that the people who rma'd their lappy are getting messages from asus saying not until june will their lappy be fixed... but then pre-orders for resellers they give an earlier date, but then keep pushing the date back. -
Aristotelhs2060 Notebook Virtuoso
this doesnt mean that it didnt have problem at all as it appeared once and fixed without knowing how. -
I want to say I am sorry for adding fuel to the fire when I posted about my tech support experiences and 2 x RMA's on the w90vp-x2 from NewEgg.... Probably posted it during a pms moment anyway. ( hey, I'm honest)
Yes, I thought of selling it - Yes, I was so disappointed in getting a machine that had inherent issues in and I wanted to plug and play.
Yes, Asus tech support was and may still not be up to par for this model. -- I believe Asus is in process of fixing that now.
All that said -- The w90 wil be an amazing machine once all the issues are weeded out and fixed - Hopefully in this next batch will be the proof ---
For Asus to offer to mail us our notebooks back in the meantime until they can replace our units is a major customer service feat. Kudos to them .. I also found an excellent tech rep named Paul - ext, 5053 is an exceptional representative. He was the one to DOA/RMA my unit appropriately when the others just added insult to injury
Asus has also responded to my original review at Newegg.
I got this for $2249, so I will tough it out,, It's a lot of machine for the price. -
FYI
Newegg has the w90vp-x2 in stock for $2249 right now. -
Most likely. Im using his old machine now and i get quite a few 'out of sync' type line issues in TF2. Funny thing is that if i can play though them for about 15-20 minutes they tend to just up and go away... Odd i know. I've been holding off on RMAing because the rest of the notebook seems rock solid and plus im scared of not getting my notebook back in time before i head out of country for a month. Hopefully when i get back in july everything will be all sorted
So has anyone given mobility modder and the 9.5 drivers a shot yet? Im thinking about doing it if no one else has yet
-
Aristotelhs2060 Notebook Virtuoso
Oh thats reallly in stock?
Ken do something!
even if it is i am too much worried for the issues that i may believe this is not fixed yet. -
how is that even possible? lol. gee, these stock issues with asus need some addressing by asus..
-
electrosoft Perpetualist Matrixist
Personally, I think Newegg is rehashing some older/fixed units.
So one of the problems is the screen goes dead/vertical lines? What are the other problems exactly? -
Do we know if the X2's in stock at newegg have the know issues?
-
Your probably right that they are just getting the refurbs from Asus , Unless someone absolutely had to have one i would not go with the Newegg model simply because if Asus cant get units to there other suppliers but can to the Egg then something is fishy and those machines are just refurbs .
-
It is illegal to sell "previously owned" or "factory refurbished" items as NEW.
I have had 3 RMAs W90s so far and I have worked the ASUS TECH and CS departments over the coals regarding all aspects of what is done with the machines througout the entire process be they repaired or declared DOA. -
Yes it is illegal ,but theres been already a few cases where people are getting machines with fingerprints and books that have been used etc so clearly someone is repacking some of these machines and selling them as new.
-
from newegg? i've seen lappys on their site that say refurbished, and they also run a lot cheaper...
