blahhh.. the wait is killing me... haha, i'm already making payments on it starting june 1st (before i even get it) haha.
hmm, how does the screen deal with glare when outside? i'm wondering if i should buy one of those screen adapter things that block glare... -

Looking forward to getting this monster and ditching my desktop/floor heater. -
So, How in the world does NewEgg have this in stock? Im thinking on canceling my order already, its beeing a month of wait.
-
Ok. I think im not cancelling my at this point. Anyway, why do you guys only talk about intel SSD because ive seen much cheaper SSD on New Egg.
-
Here are some comparisons

It's ridiculous, I know --and I feel bad for everyone who's been waiting on their order. I remember having an 8800 GTX (desktop) card on early order with EVGA only to see people get theirs a week before me from NewEgg... man, F that noise. I'm still floored I actually got it. I was sure I'd be waiting for months to get one and had given up hope. I'm totally chuffed now.
I was waiting on an XPS m1730 order to come through, but saw the w90 was in stock by chance. Canceled my XPS order and ordered the w90. -

For right now the good ones are:
Intel X25, OCZ Vertex, Corsair P256, GSKILL Falcon, Kingston M Now and I think I am missing one other. There is no "best" out of the list as one of them is good in one trait but beaten by another in a different trait.
The intel is unique for its slow continious write speed but very fast uncached random write speed, and it seems to load a lot of things (games) faster than other SSD's even if they have faster speed ratings. Also the intel shows the least amount of speed loss from the SSD getting full/used, so over time it stays at almost its original speed while many other SSD do lose quite a bit of speed.
Win7 & Trim may fix that though, but you need Win 7 RC and a SSD that supports it. -
Aristotelhs2060 Notebook Virtuoso
i would say that ocz vertex is better not only because the write/read speed is the best but also because of the firmware update function. recently trim support which lacks from many others was added so as to be used on vista (w90 operating system) and not waiting for win 7

Same controller, same cache, same storage type/amount, and it supports firmware updates.
As for the Intel, its so efficient it doesnt even need trim. -

hey another note, there is a 20 buck rebate on gentechpc's site for the w90... does that apply to preorders? i sound super cheap, but 20 bucks is half of a game. haha. -

Just a tip.. The temperature benchmarks people use in reviews and forums usually leave out a very important factor - the ambient temperature of the area the notebook or pc is running in. It makes a difference if you are flowing 68 degree air or 80F+ - 90F+ degree air into a case's intakes.
If you are planning to use a gaming notebook outdoors you should be mindful of the temperature outside, and direct sunlight on a dark surface makes things even hotter to the point of warping/melting. When its in the 80F 's or higher I would be wary of stressing a crossfire + misc pc pcb sandwich outside. I'm not saying you can't but you might be asking for trouble. I would definitely use a heavy duty cooler at the very least, and use it only in the shade.
I know some military people mentioned being stationed in the desert with one of these units so perhaps they could give more insight into heat and glare from their actual experience with this DTR. -
Anyone tried changing Core 2 Duo with Core 2 Quad in W90? My friend installed QX9300 in place of T9400 and it is working only when plugged on. On battery comupter is shutting down
btw. he has version with GF9800M GS -
I had a Qx9300 in mine and it would run fine on battery unless i was overclocked at which point if i unplugged it then it would just hardlock .
-
Unlikely NewEgg or Asus would swap out some of the hardware so they could sell returns as new... Fully intend to go over it with a fine-toothed comb when it arrives nonetheless -

Hardlock upon switching from DC to AC pretty much defeats the purpose of the UPS (battery); I mean if there was a power cut...
At least that doesn't happen when you dont OC. -
-
The battery probably can't put out the juice needed or exceeds the safety draw (all li-ions and li-pos can only discharge up to a certain rate safely or else you risk KABOOM) built in and then the processor doesn't get the power it needs and locks.
Biosmods.com They seem to be able to mod quite a few different bios' so im going to put a request up for us and see what can be done. Voltage and pci-e bus speeds seem to be popular requests. -

I installed my spare 5350 card, and the good news is the 5300 (WiFi) works fine, but the WiMax isn't recognized which means the USB line of the Mini-PCI slot is non compliant and/or wired incorrectly. With the current 5350 cards, it really is hit or miss in regards to current mini-PCI slots being ready for the current batch of 5350's.
I popped it in my (now sold) Whitebook since it already had one I installed and was recognize and picked up by the Intel WiMax software and it works fine as expected in there. It also worked fine in my daughter's 1722 and was recognized by the Intel WiMax drivers/software like the OCZ Whitebook (What WON'T those things support, lol), so it's definitely the W90Vp's mini-pci slot.
Not that it is the end of the world, and I am sure future revisions will most likely work, just not the current OEM crop.
I put it back in because it was getting 4-5 bars at max range vs. the 2-3 with the stock card in my cribbo. -

question what are your temps idle for everything. and full load.
also eletrosoft, which wifi card gave you the best results in your w90. -
I think the W90 should have come with a solar panel on the back of the LCD

Oh BTW I think Asus called me again today, I had a voicemail on my phone with the same thing as before offering to send back my laptop for me to compensate for the wait till the new units are in, they said 1 or 2 weeks but made it sound like 2 weeks is the most probable.
So looking like June 2nd is the D-Day for the big shipment. -
it's going to be the middle of june for the w90...(personal opinion)
-
hummm i wonder what the issue was with the laptop ...... had to be big
only thing i have heard of is the screen flicker -

they we're sure it was the 20th of this month as well..remember...
im sure it's some back order part is all.... from what i can gather. -

The 2nd of next month though sounds pretty solid. We shall see!
Also anybody looking at the W90 for media and not gaming, I just found out about the new N90SV series, its like a super glossed up, thinner/lighter/cheaper version of the W90 with the gpu's ripped out.
Would be probably the best media machine you can buy. $1700 for 1TB of storage space, a decent gpu (GTX 130M) and all the other W90 fixings with a new quick access section on the left side that looks better than the W90's. -
Anyone ever come up with a workable solution for a laaptop bag for this beast....something besides the backpack.
-
your right vicious, ken said the ETA was the 20th... however, it does sound like the 2nd is a very solid date - as ken and justin have both said JUNE 2ND... and, i don't get why ASUS, or any company for that matter, wouldn't take care of their RMA's first before shipping out new units?
-
While on the topic of accessories, anyone have any good suggestions for a laptop cooler for this beast? I've seen some recommendations for the Antec, but I really don't like the design (even though you would hardly see it). My biggest concern is finding one that is large enough and has fans placed towards the back of the tray to cover the CPU and GPUs.
Liking this, but not sure about fan placement. -

as for the bag i prefer the asus one for many reasons like its better to have it on both arms than holding on one arm. with 5 kilos and more including the accesories it may create problems to your skeleton. and i really believe this bag was a very good movement from asus
