Was looking at that cooler too. Really nice design and the 120mm should be quieter than most other coolers with smaller fans; fan placement is in the back which is perfect. I'm just not sure the W90 will fit. Take a look at this review. They show a 17" asus just fits it -- The W90 would surely be hanging off the edge of that thing, no? Width on the unit is only 16.6" while the W90 is 17.4".

Good point on the shoulder straps, but I've got to have something to bring into work at a rather conservative i-bank... Don't get me wrong, the included bag looks sweet -- it just doesn't make the best impression when riding in the elevator or traveling with your MDs

Even if it doesnt fit the size of the w90 its the best solution for me.

if you see the features on the above link it says: Support for power notebooks with 15", 17" and 19" wide screens .it actually depends on where the "foots" of the w90 are. as i can see from the pictures they are not at the edge so it should be ok.

i also saw on an other review that it is silent and on this review it says it can be heared even in the lowest speed. maybe this one had sensitive ears. finally its all subjective.

    we shall see.

No, they've had the X2 for a while now. At least one person on this thread (I think it was Hadis) claimed to have received a used replacement for his RMA (an X1). I can't believe they would be that stupid though. Probably just a fluke.

I like mine. Looks nice, solid construction, modifiable. Fan is slightly audible on high but I'm an old guy that plays with guns and other things that go boom, so my ears aren't what they used to be. :D It is rather heavy and bulky though. I don't think you'll find a cooler any bigger.

Agreed it is a beast. I also learnt recently that it will make use of a 12V DC adaptor if you can find one that will fit, bringing the fans to more than twice the original top speed of 5V. As for noise, those with power laptops shouldn't care. The whole point of using it is to shed temps not go quietly :p

I was kidding too :p but serious also, dont know how to explain it it was like strong sarcasm.

Though on that note, maybe a very low power machine like the EEE could gain some battery life with a solar panel behind the screen recycling unused light energy.

And on that note a <s>glass</s> bottle of wine sounds great right now!

Performance wise, on my Whitebook (aka M17) vs. my W90Vp:

    Whitebook (3870 Xfire):
    SM 2.0 = 5423
    SM 3.0 = 6556
    Vantage GPU = 6389

    W90Vp (4870 Xfire):
    SM 2.0 = 5312
    SM 3.0 = 7207
    Vantage GPU = 10054

This is both running 9.4, QX9300, Vista Ultimate. Stock settings.

3Dmark06 really can't differentiate between newer GPUs, and that's why Vantage GPU is a much more accurate mark.

According to 3Dmark06, they are basically equal, but in actual game play, the 4870's are noticeably faster than the 3870's. I play a lot of WoW (WAY too much WoW), and with everything to max (except those pesky shadows), the W90 is averaging 30-40% better performance in places like Dalaran, Naxx, Ulduar (especially the opening mech battle), and the real GPU killer (even desktops) = Wintergarde PvP (where the W90Vp is staying in the low teens vs. single digits like the 3870's). But Wintergarde with all the special effects and AoE spells going and mechs even punches my desktop in the no-no's.

As a perspective buyer, I'd focus on the Vantage GPU scores from now on.

Come on, its a laptop after all, A solar panel outside would maybe increased the battery life by 65% I believe. They should offer it as a option!. As a green man, I still think its a really good idea. I was just wondering, My girlfriend called me big kid, I'm 28 years old, and I luv games with great graphics, are you guys in the same age level as me? or i am really a big kid? :D :D

Ok guys the 4870x2 now work in windows 7 rc1. I have the dual master cards and the ATI 9.5 drivers work fine. It shows crossfire options now in CCC settings. So something in 9.5 fixs it.

I didnt mod the drivers. Just run the setup. Make sure you get the mobile 9.5 driver from ati's web site. I used the normal master bios. Just follow Vicious guide to flash them both masters. Do not install any other ati drivers mod or not. Just install the mobile 9.5 non mod. It will find everything.

i think this is it right? i cant find anything for vista-64bit under 4800 series.

and by the way build after rc is leaked out there. supposed to have better driver support and bugs fixes.

i think ati left back support for vista?

    works fine compared to ....what?
say you have 60 fps.... do you now have 120 fps?
is there stuttering or smooth game play.
have you tried running with and without xfired enabled to see if there is a difference?

things like that....other than it works fine.. :)

    thanks in advance.

Ok just ran Vantage and it did not like the second card. I need to test some more, ati says the cards are linked. Vantage may not work right due to windows 7. Is there another way i can test this card?
TF2 everything on high works great no stuttering.

Yeah, the W90Vp definitely thumps the Whitebook. I'm a big proponent of stock speed runs for comparisons or everyday condition(s) run, since OC's can be all over the map and under special circumstances (Case open, fans blowing on it directly, etc...). I like to know where my systems run rock solid, portable, as is and no special conditions....

    ......THEN I OC. ;)

IMPORTANT REMINDER ABOUT BETA EXPIRATION DATE

Thanks again for your help in testing the Windows 7 Beta.

We’re sending this mail to remind you that Windows 7 Release candidate is available and to make sure you plan ahead for when the Beta expires on August 1, 2009. On June 1, 2009, the PC you’re using to test the Beta will begin shutting down every two hours. Windows will send you a notice a couple of weeks in advance, and that’d be the ideal time to rebuild your test PC with a non-expired version of Windows, such as the RC or Windows Vista. This will be a clean installation, so be ready to reinstall your programs and data. (Learn more about installing Windows.)

So, if you haven’t already done so, we highly recommend that you download and install the RC from one of the following sites today:

    - Developers http://co1piltwb.partners.extranet....21229&s1=0d15bbc3-8b9b-2f55-9245-488a73a7a74d
    - IT Pros/Microsoft Partners http://co1piltwb.partners.extranet....21230&s1=0d15bbc3-8b9b-2f55-9245-488a73a7a74d
    - Tech Enthusiasts/Consumers http://co1piltwb.partners.extranet....21231&s1=0d15bbc3-8b9b-2f55-9245-488a73a7a74d

IMPORTANT: If you are running Windows 7 Beta you’ll need to back up your data (preferably on an external device) and then do a clean install of the Windows 7 Release Candidate. After installing Windows 7, you will need to reinstall applications and restore your files. If you need help with the installation process, please see the Installation Instructions.

If you have questions or need help installing the RC, you can get help with your Windows 7 questions at http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/category/w7itpro/

There’s another expiration date you need to keep in mind: Windows 7 RC will expire on June 1, 2010, and you’ll need to either upgrade to the final release of Windows 7 or a prior version of Windows before then. (We‘ll send you another reminder as this date approaches.)

Thanks again for your interest in Windows 7 and for your help in finishing this product!

    :)

Ya those 8600 scores in that link are the overall score and not the GPU score which was only like 7600(scroll to the bottom of that link after clicking compare) , which while still better is very far and away from the W90s.

    Version 9.5 Release Notes:

    https://a248.e.akamai.net/f/674/9206/0/www2.ati.com/drivers/Catalyst_95_release_notes.pdf

I am curious here...... since the 9.5 drivers & CCC installed in the WIN 7 environment (without modded INF's), did you try to install, PRIOR to flashing the slave as another master? I wonder if the drivers & CCC will install, seeing the two cards as a single 4870 X2 card..... ??? Could you flash the secondary card back to slave, and give it a try again?

    :)

VERY NICE INDEED mkinasz! Did you flash both GPU's as Master, or was this the stock bios config? (Are you still running as a single 4870 X2 card, or did you flash to two 4870 cards?)

LOL, never full o' crap, Bro..... take your time. :)

I am just trying to determine if the 9.5 (& CCC) drivers will now install with the W90Vp in stock config, or if it's still necessary to flash the GPU's. If so..... in Vista.... WIN7, or both?

Yup, I did that while following instructions by Vicious for installing the modded 9.4. Setting back to the slave bios didn't help, i'm back to both cards being master. 9.4 drivers are still ok (still getting expected numbers in Vantage). :D
