Thanks John i had thought you actually showed me that score sometime ago . Ive been toying around with the idea of trying to get some cash together and ordering the barebones one(OCZ) on the EGG then just piecing it together over time , or i may end up with a Clevo 8662 barebone , i miss having a notebook but theres no way i can swing a 3k rig again period (unless i sell some sort of organ) .

    off topic

i have been working on these i7/gtx280 records lately. seems i can get in the top 20 without using LN2 OR H20...but i think im gonna buy the 295 or wait for the gt300...they just discontinued the gtx295...them cards are kind of scarce to find..same with the gtx280's...discontinued as well.

im just trying to get in at the right time with evga.
they have the 90 setup up program.. jump in with a 295 and setup up to the gt300 series...in my case i stepped down to a gtx280 from a 8800gtx..lol. price was lower for the 280.

meaning....i can go pick it up in person... try it. if i dont like it...take it back for my money back. dealing with a bunch of internet sales...you have to go through a lot of changes when something goes wrong.

and something is wrong with that list...did you check out the 9800 gx2? 595 bucks!

Nope, hate the show. Its a job, mostly boring and hard work. That is manufactured reality making drama where there is none. Outside of the outright lies they tell they also force the crews and all their close relatives to sign contracts agreeing to be interviewed if things go bad. It chaps my knowing these people are praying to catch someone dying on camera so they can interview a grieving widow with weeping children on hip. I don't need money that bad. The show is pretty much universally despised among people in the business.

Yes i am a big fan of retail myself , wish they sold more laptops at the retail level so i didnt have to make big decisions sight unseen. Some of those card prices like 9800gx2 are outta whack because there no long produced and almost become a rare commodity for a time being , so the price skyrockets + that card in particular was a serious beast and made alot of people question the 260/280gtx's for the giant price difference they wanted when they first launched , i looked at that card many times before i settled on 2x260gtxOC's.

Wow thats pretty sad, though im not surprised when it comes to reality TV and the steps they will stoop to for ratings. Only watched the show a couple times but like most reality shows they make it look a heck of lot more interesting then it really is im sure .

Anyone have an idea why CCC would have crossfire enabled, but everything else says no crossfire. Vantage only show one card.

Also i just got the new Patriot Torqx SSD drive with the 64MB buffer. All i can says is wow. Patriot let me send in my Warp 2 and pay $40 for the upgrade!

I got tired of waiting and my credit card company already bill me for something I don't even own. So I decide to call my reseller and cancel my order. I'll wait to see the new alienware or the M980NU.

yeah, i would not wait that long on any laptop period! (personal opinion) im impatient when it comes to computers.. :) at least the previous owners get a chance at getting their old machines back while they wait on the new ones....

Well, what would you do? If that's the machine you want. There is not much option. paying or not either way, there is a wait I see. because If I get something else, I'm not gonna be satisfied. So, I figured, better wait and get what I want. The sager is super ugly, so i'm passing on that one.

I didn't want to wait that long also until I see the going to be M980NU now I want to spend more to get that beast. I been waiting almost a month for the w90, now I'll wait for 1 more month to get something better and more powerful

this is were price performance ratio comes to play. how much are you willing to spend to get xxx performance increase.
the 280m sli will be faster. after seeing reviews and test and benchmarks. i am guessing 10-15% increase. this is maxed. i llyn assure you it will not be as high as people are thinking.

i ordered mine on April 15th and i am still waiting. i too have given thought tt cancelling and ordering a sager but the damn thing looks like a brick hit by an ugly brick concieved by the 2 ugliest transfestitacal bricks on th planet of ugliness.... granted the thing can hold up to 1.5Tb its just not worth the uglinessitivity.

the w90 is epic win in power and awsomnessitivity. i will just wait untill i get it. i have waited this long why not finish the waiting game. because i hate losing games.

NBR has been up and down all day for me to.

Alright so guys over at biosmod got this bios open however there is no hidden options or the like to unlock for voltage modding. Im seeing if they think it possible to get it specifically added in but its a long shot imo.

it'll cost more than the w90, but it will be slightly better. personally, i'd rather save the money that this laptop would cost in comparison to the w90 and save up for my next lapppy. its the same reason i didn't buy the qx9300, but hey, if you got money to burn, go for it. personally, the only reason i ordered the w90 was because of what you get for what price point...

and i ordered mine, and paid in full since late march... i'm not going to keep cancelling my order everytime something slightly better pops off - otherwise, i'd end up with no laptop ever!!!

Well thats good news they atleast got it open , i figured they couldnt open that one on the Asus site because it was still the corrupted file they posted months ago and have yet to even fix the thing ,which is pretty darn sad. Strange though that there were no options to adjust voltages in there.

    Isn't TurboGear limiting & adjusting CPU voltage when it OC's? Why else 17% with a T9600, 15% with a Q9000, and only 5% with a QX9300 (like the Q9000, also a 45W processor)? Am I missing something here?

    :)

Nope turbogear does nothing to effect the voltages , when you run it at stock or OC'd the voltage remains the same. Remember i had tried all those different versions of Turbogear awhile back and none of them did anything different as far as options went , so that means everything is handled within the bios and not the software end. Oh and the one thing that still boggles my mind to this day is why the Dualcores received more voltage then the Quadcores, 1.265(dualcore) 1.25(Quadcore) . Hopefully Mugenski will get somewhere with the Biosmod guys because at this rate that may be the only hope of ever seeing an updated bios of any sort, Asus has not done squat interms of new drivers or bios updates since the machines inception and this has been many months, so im beginning to get a bit concerned .Though never say never and maybe they will.

Hmmmm, ok...... then if voltage is different between C2D and Quads, would this not indicate they are bios identified, and voltage adjusted as such. There has to be something there in the bios code..... you'ld think? So, I guess KINC had a special bios then..... ? I wonder if the guy at biosmods.com didn't miss something?

What is TurboGear doing..... how does it OC, if not by adjusting voltage? I am just wondering if TurboGear is not somehow key here, since nothing was found in the bios.... ???

    :)

TurboGear did raise the voltage for me Quad remember?

I think the voltage it sends out may have to do with the cpu's VID also.

Also wow checked out that link to the M98 on the other page... I hope that site is overpriced... $3000 for the under speced base price, by the time you add the 280 SLI and configure it similar to the W90 its like $5000.....

My voltage never moved when i ran both the Dual or Quadcore but i think i remember yours going below 1.25 then never going higher then that ?. So ya it maybe the VID deciding what it needs but 1.25 is not high enough for a Qx9300 atleast if you want to overclock it that is. For a stock machine it was more then enough but i just dont think Asus had the Qx in mind for the machines so they didnt bother to do anything special for it.

    or...yes there is an or...
he ran that test using disabl post processing....

remember...his voltage showing was 1.26...and that's still no where near enough to get past 3.6 ghz.... look at all the whitebooks... they are iffy at 1.35 volts..

now of course the flip side...the voltage dropped and the clocks dropped before he took the snap shot of the screen...voltage could have been as high as 1.4 something...to amass a 1.5 ghz over clock...(speculation of course) and since no one else has remotely even came close to getting 17.5k in 3dmark, let alone a stable over clock of 3.5 ghz (1 ghz over clock)...gonna have to say they fabricated all that stuff for sales...

now i would love to be wrong!!!...but it's been 3 months now and nothing has changed......and remember...he had one from the first batch....with (speculation) no problematic gpus or flashing of both cards to master......(more speculations)

    all without using setfsb.....

Agreed, and would this not indicate a voltage limiting factor/parameter in bios..... and perhaps TurboGear, as well? Perhaps a coder needs to look at TurboGear too...... maybe a clue there, ya reckon?

If i tried 5 different versions of turbo gear and they all gave the same results i would think this would indicate everything was being handled within the bios . Some of the turbo gears i used were from pre Quad laptops so to me its all bios related . The real proof its all handled within the bios is by looking at the release notes from some of the other bios released for the other W90's on Asus site , in the notes they indicate adding new turbogear profiles for Quads and the Q9300 so again its all handled within the bios. So its pretty simple really , someone needs to crack that bios proper or Asus hopefully releases a new one when they start shipping these new machines ( which i think they might and its why we havent seen any new updates on the W90 from there site) .

I think it doesnt work "right" with the QX9300 but for the included Q9000 my voltage very clearly went up every time I enabled overclock mode by .1v or so.

Also unlike many others I never turned off any of the cpu features in the bios for my overclock, so I still have speedstep and all that stuff enabled.

If you could get that kind of voltage to the CPU on the W90 that machine would be all set for some hefty OC's . Im very excited for you guys to get the new machines and a hopefully new bios along with them , could be exciting times ahead if that is the case.
