Wow after all that time this is what the bios update brought ?.

    BIOS 601
Fix the problem that when you enable or disable Lan Option Rom item, the system will halt.

Maybe someone with a Qx9300 can run it and see if they added any new turbogear profiles to it .Sometimes they add things to bios updates but dont report it and hopefully that is the case , oh also check to see if they added more Voltage to the CPU by downloading CPU-Z . Hopefully Mugenski will see this and give it a whirl .

Good thing its still up on the tawian site :)

Cpuz 1.41 (only one properly reporting mobile voltages) still reports 1.138v as it did on bios 502. Good news though, this bios update FIXED my tf2 issues and hopefully it fixes my very minor issue in track mania (which may just be a bug in the game itself) but i haven't got around to test it yet. Seems that this bios update may have given the slightest ever boost in the gpu department, noticed a very tiny increase via crysis benchmark tool. Also noticed to my amazement that 4x AA gives more fps then 2x AA which really blew me away. I knew aa improved frame rate but i really though 4x aa would just kill me. Not sure if thats from the bios update or not, just happened to test it after i updated tonight. On that note i still think these cards are slightly bottlenecked at 3.0 ghz.

Bios 601 has been submitted to biosmods.com as well for investigation. Ive also found a more dedicated bios modding site that seems to actually mod the bios (not just look for hidden options like the guy on biosmods) so well see where that takes us as they usually seem to stick to desktop Mobos not laptops but who knows.

Anyway i need my sleep, i was hammering refresh on here all night trying to post up about 601 but you guys beat me to it >.< Ill try to run more benches and follow up on the bios mod stuff tomorrow and let you guys know how it goes.

    keep the faith!
it's very few that can truly mod a laptop bios... it takes a few programs..
a bios editor and a menu editor and a hex editor.

and usually the bios mod guys like to use a different chip, which is kind of hard to switch out on laptops.... we kind of been down these path's a few times....E-wrecked got quite far with the original bios writers for the gateway fx model, but when we tried everyone else...they couldn't do anything with it. which is pretty much with them all...(personal opinion)

but hey, if they do crack it...i got a 9262 bios that also needs cracking... :)

GPU have there own bios for voltage, the vbios is on the cards obviously since they are dedicated cards not embeded in the system bios.

Also i already increased the gpu voltage in my custom bios and it had bad effects for most (higher chance of artifacts with only a small amount of extra overclock room)

Go spend your time doing something productive while you wait like how to do the QX9300 pin mod for a 4ghz overclock.

Its possible thats how Klinc or what ever his name is did it.

    pin mod?
he is a asus rep, why would he need to pin mod when he can get the correct bios strait from them?

Thats good news Mugenski that it fixed your TF2 issues and thankfully your resourceful enough to check the Taiwan site :) Might want to put it up somewhere for others who may want to play around with it as well. Bummer about the lack of proper voltage though , Ahh well maybe in the next one or maybe the bios mod guys can crack it.

So I got my notebook back.. I am surprised it did not come back in pieces... they did not package it well and my notebook got a couple of scratches.. Almost as if they took a sharp knife or razor edge to the casing. They replaced my video card and CPU fan.. and it seems to be running stable. However I did notice that even though my linked adapter is enabled the second card rarely shows any activity. Its temperature always ranges from 44 - 48. Is crossfire only used for specific games.. or should it be active all the time?

Has anyone tried installing the newest 9.5 catalyst.. I am thinking of flashing my secondary card. I was searching for the step by step instructions on how to do it... do we have link or forum for this ? :D

My first machine did the same thing where the secondary adapter was always 15-20 degrees cooler then the primary , the second machine i got though had temps that were very similar to each other. Vicious's guide is in the main Asus section with links to download all the files you need and full explantions etc .

Bios will not cause a lock with the qx9300 , it installed and booted just fine. Didnt effect setfsb or anything else iive tried yet.

As for a conclusion, id say if your having an issues in games with gpus going out of sync or any of the common line issues give this bios a try, it fixed a fairly significant problem in tf2 for me so they definitely did something to the gpus bios side.

There may or may not be a few more options under the cpu section in the bios however none of them allow for voltage change.

Biosmods.com still says theres no option for a voltage bump hidden in that bios so im going to go and see if mydigitallife.info can do it. They seem to have a fairly large bios devoted section (close to 3000 page thread for mod requests) Ill be doing more benches today and trying a few other games that had issues and see if they were fixed as well.

Id say bios 601 is a go and MOST DEFINITELY upgrade if your having any sort of gpu issues.

Heres a link to the new bios

Lol no response... lets hope it went well :p blah dang 404 errors, glad it flashed well sir :)

Man im dying to oc this thing some more, so much friggen potential. This better not get to the point where im knocking on Kinc's door...

I think it may be time for me to screw around with turbogear as some say it did infact toy with the voltage where as others was a no no, personally i havent installed it as it just seemed to be a headache but it may be time...

    Just found this tidbit

"As I mentioned in the intro, I was asked for a quick turn-around on this notebook, and it was for a good reason. As it stands today, the W90 has already been EOL'ed (end-of-life), meaning, it's not being produced anymore. It is however still available for sale on a few different e-tailers, but I'll leave it up to you to search around, as they are constantly changing."

Review was from techgage and was May 15. Seems that this notebook is coming to an end, have to say im proud to be an owner of this rather rare piece of awesome technology :D Just really makes me sad to think that since its EOL'd that we probably wont get many more bios updates :(

Hmmm...not sure what to make of the EOL comment, if true I am now the proud owner of 2 laptop's that were EOL verry soon after their intro, the HP HDX Dragon and now this. REally hoping thats not accurate, would love to see updates and continued support for this.

Yes this all started with firingsquad's review which initially i thought was based on that particular model, but ended up being the whole line it seems , this was also reported yesterday by another european site as well . So from the looks of things it died before it even came to life :( . The one site indicated that Asus is no longer interested in selling notebooks that cost over 2000 euros which will be hard if there going to have any top of the line gaming notebooks IE SLI or Crossfire , but maybe since the prices of cards have come down so much they will be able to sell them for less then that much like how Clevo's prices have come down so much. Either way its a mess and im glad you guys got atleast one bios before the final nail in the coffin , though there could be more to come even if they stop selling/making the machine.

I am cureious though, this may be just refering to the EU market, since they specifically mention euros...I mean if they were EOL'ing the whole line, worldwide, why would the mention euros specifically

I asked this same Question yesterday but i dont think anyone knows if its just for Europe or Worldwide. It could be though that Asus was takin it in the rear on this model all along with the RMA's and maybe the overall amount of money they were making on it so they just decided to pull the plug on the whole line before it was to late(Speculation of course) . Clearly there is a market for this machine but maybe not enough to justify the cost issues .

I wouldnt lay any blame on the reseller honestly , they only can tell you what they are told and things can change in 24hours where one day it seems everything is hunky dory then the next its "the whole line is cancelled" and thats something no reseller would have control over. Im sure if anything theres alot of upset resellers because once this becomes known to many waiting on machines they may cancel there orders because they dont want to own something that may have no future support.

in this case they should just remove it from the list and fullfil the preorders. i dont know. if you see some posts before asus ensures that its still on sale. i dont say if this true or not. i just dont know and i dont care. asus will support it i am sure. you care if others will be able to buy or you?

anyway i received my CRYO LX today! its perfect looking and working amazing.and the usb hub with 4 free ports! i cant tell you results on w90 as i am still waiting for it but on my tiny acer d-150 it reduces the hdd temp by 9 degrees (finally 39 C) and my cpu by 10 or more degrees (now at 49C) on the low level! on higher speed level it reduces on average 2 degrees more! i dont have gpu on this tiny laptop to get a temp for it. it has graphics memory on the chipset. :p

here is the photo of the year!

    http://g.imagehost.org/view/0275/28052009017

HEY! dont laugh! i ordered it for the w90! its tiny but hard working as you can see from the cables :)

If they do decide to kill off the W90, its not like you will be missing much if you have or are waiting for one...

Whats the worst that can happen?

No driver/bios updates? - You should be used to that by now... Not like they or on par in that department.

Replacement hardware? - Its still covered under warranty for two years even if its discontinued. You should be happy if they cant replace your parts because then you will get a NEW Replacement system which is most likely a newer, better system, and start your warranty all over again.

In any event, the system is top notch right now, and will be for a little while. Its still worth the purchase while they have it. No sense crying over un-spilled milk. The sites reporting the end of days dont seem to have a chapter written in the bible yet. :D

Yeah, this is the way im looking at it atm. Last bios fix fixed any issues i had with my machine. Im not worried about support as i know asus always takes care of their customers, just disappointed because now the likely hood of an asus qx9300 machine with unlocked bios is very low :(

Guys I'm having some hard time accessing this site.

Plus I'm seriously thinking in canceling my order and getting the Clevo M980NU instead of the W90. It looks really cool too, with SLI GTX 280M I think it will kick the W90's butt ;)

gtx280 is actually like a few better 9800. 4870 is better than 9800. gtx280 doesnt support dx10.1 benchmarks using one gtx280 was at 11.250 something. how much can this be improved with sli? and what about its price?

    i think i answered.

no way i'm cancelling my w90 order for a m980... i'm sorry, that thing is just a little bit too pricey to bring it up to w90 standards. 3k+ is a little too much to spend on a lappy (at least for me)... plus it'll be another month wait, and if we are going to follow that logic of cancelling our order everytime something better comes out, we would never end up with a lappy, or any technology, for that matter.

Well, when you guys had problem with crossfire, the bechmarks worked only for one card, the numbers were pretty low too so, yeah, I think SLI might increase substantially. About dx10.1, ok, that is a minus.

Even if the M98 is 15% faster lets say the price wont outweigh the performance so the W90 is still the best bang for the buck period. Standard stuff like 6 gigs of ram and 2 4870s , the Q9000 standard( since it can be overclocked to 2.7ghz+) makes this machines price very hard to beat.

More like stab the W90 with a sewing needle in the a$$... The M980U is undoubtably faster... How much faster and how much more expensive? Not as much faster as you think, and close to double the price of the W90 configured similarly. The gtx 280m SLI, IIRC was $1100 for the cards alone. Nevermind the base price of the system with 2gb ram, 1 gtx280m and 1 320gb hdd. But its your money... I personally wouldnt shell out that much just to brag about a slightly faster setup.

and i mentioned many times before the nvidias mobile are burning. i dont think you would a so pricy laptop to die in one year.

w90 is even better on this too. look at the areas of taking air. even the lights on clevo inside the case will raise the temp.

And what about Nvidia's overheating and completely failing card issues? They have yet to release a statement about that, and dont get it twisted, this affected ALL of their mobile GPU solutions in all series after 7000 series, as opposed to only the secondary 4870 card issue limited to Asus, which seems to have been resolved. That basically means YOUR NVIDIA MOBILE CARD IS BOUND TO FAIL... but if thats what you want... go get it.

Personally, I like nvidia's card performance and driver support... im just not willing to buy from them again after giving them four chances and they failed each time.
