    or
more than 6 and less that 8 :D

can you use cpuz 1.41 so we can get a true voltage reading...i don't think it reads the right voltage on mobile cpu's... thanks

are you talking about mobile gpu's or desktop ones?
and i dont see that many 4870's beating me so it aint that much better.. now the w90 setup on the whole...is awesome...

but then who knows...if i had a pair of 4870's...i would be breaking someones records.... :)

Ok this seems to work fine in TF2, so heres a guide to get it to work. Please let me know if you have problems. I have only been running this for 30 min, so this is really not tested!!!

    1. You must have Master\Master setup!
    2. Install Windows 7
    3. Install Ati mobility 9.5 driver from setup.exe and do not use the have disk way! Drivers
    4. Reboot!
    5. After you reboot go into CCC and you will see Crossfire is an options now. Make sure its enabled. Even though it says it enable GPUID says it not, i'll get to that later.
    6. Delete the C:\ati folder.
    7. In the tools you got for flashing your gpus there was a 9.4 ati driver. Run the setup so that it extracts to c:\ati. Cancel it after it extracts the files (Dont install !!!!).
    8. Mod the drivers in the ati folder with E-Wrecks mod.
    9. Now go into device manager and use the have disk method. Point it to the ati folder that you modded.

You will end up with 9.4, which is better the stock Asus. Now fire up gpuid and you will see crossfire is good.

i can notice only that this negative posts lately especially from people that really like w90 is since they sent their w90 for rma. so i assume they feel loneliness. yes i do to even i didnt touch it yet. :)

Madhatter01 thanks for the guide but it seems complicated . did you just try update the drovers through windows update?

can you also post links with the drivers? just in case we download an other one?

So in other words you just installed the 9.5 control panel and thats what fixed it.

The 9.5 drivers wont install because they are not modded.

So if you already have the 9.4's installed via my guide, you should have to do nothing but download and install the 9.5 CCC with the custom install proceedure (when you install the .exe dont use the default install click the custom button and uncheck everything but the control panel)

However some people here have also moded the 9.5 to work now also, once we get there modified .inf files you should be able to use the 9.5's

I'll try it out when I get my unit back.

I tired to mod 9.5 and got a error 43. If you use non mod 9.5 the card will show up as a 4870 and crossfire will enable, but gpuid says no crossfire. I am still working on modding 9.5. I will work more on it this weekend.

I'll try my method when I get the unit back, it will be good if all we need to do is update my package with the 9.5 driver and have them instal the control panel.

Better yet if we manage to get the 9.5 working.

I still have ideas on how to automate the process more but I dont want to make it too easy :p

Same concept as safety's on a gun, if you make it too easy somebody may use the gun that should not be.

Thanks for satisfying my curiosity on this one, Mr. Moo! Hmmmm, with all that marketing fluff, I expected more, like the Clevo M98 chassis. Less room in that M17..... I'd be even MORE concerned with heat issues.

I love this line in the PCWorld article, "The base-level 17-inch machine will come with a host of perks that should earn a warm reception from gamers." Perhaps given history, a POOR word choice, LOL! :D

    We'll shall SEE, LOL! :D

Admittedly, in appearance, the 280m thermal design looks improved..... but in SLI, that's a 150W cooker there.

    Again, we shall see! :)

3DMark doesnt like me much... anything over 3.7ghz bluescreens on me. @3.7, i get a score of 16693, then she bluscreened after that. still workin on some things so i might still be able to test it out @4.2 or at least close to that. the funny ting is i can play games @4.2 like ETQW and Sin emergence, but crysis tanks as well as L4D and sometimes CODMW. can run these stable @ 3.9.

Cpuz 1.41 for em reports 1.050 while speedstepped to 1.6ghz and 1.138v while not speedstepped at 2.53ghz.

cpuz 1.51 reports 1.163 while speedstepped and 1.250 while not SS'd.

yes, i was laughing to my self about the bash fest starting and about to start up...lol

was over there checking it out as well..but this site is moving so damn slow...im scared to start typing.

looks like it will be giving the w90 a run for it's money....if it has over clocking.

lol. all i can say about the allpowerful lappy, is holy crap, that thing is going to be expensive...

the cost to upgrade to dual gpu, the cost to upgrade the processor, and ram... at least 1,200+ knowing AW.. + the 1,799 base price = 3k lappy = out of my price range.

haha, with my price range, i don't think i could construct a lappy that'd give the w90 a run for its money...

+ that thing looks like it should be out street racing.

so is alienware or dell going to be selling that thing? maybe it won't be that bad with some 10%-20% off coupons...

I just wrote a new 9.5 driver, i will test it when i get off work. If it works it sould work in Vista x64 and Windows 7. I think i found the issue why 9.5 was not working.

    yeah that will be interesting.

as for the m17 the price of full customization will be over 3500 $ . i am sure for that. actually it will the double price of asus w90 for me. because of currency i paid 1700 pounds (this is for 2400 $) . if i buy m17 from the european (uk ) site it will cost me 3400 (because only sli can deal with w90) or more pounds because alienware us doesnt ship to europe (due to european one i guess) so no advantage of the currency.

In case anyone wants to do some poking around of their own, here is an INF that i created for the Win7 catalyst driver package since it supported the 4870 in those drivers by default. you can easily use this inf for vista x64 by changin the catalogue file and msi package name, within the inf to the correct one for the vista drivers, and rename the actual inf to the same as the vista one (including the .inf file extension) which is in the dislay driver folder (should be C:\ATI\Support\9-4_vista64_win7_64_dd_ccc_wdm_enu\Driver\Packages\Drivers\Display\LH6A_INF) (just rename the old inf to .old from .inf so that you can compare the two later on.)

Let me know if you need some guidance.

Well I have been off the boards lately, got really busy here and of course was playing Fallout 3!! Just wanted to let anyone who was wondering know, I have not had any issues with my system once the intial bugs were worked out mysteriously. I am happily enjoying my lappy, just wish I could install CAD on this thing! I may attempt to install do the flash/driver install again soon, but lemme see how Rome Total War runs on stock drivers and 15% OC first.

Would like to report I recieved my X2 yesterday and am loving it. For those wary of buying from the Egg, mine was definitely brank spankin new: no fingerprints, warranty registration was open, serial # 95... (May 2009), new car smell.

First thing I did was bust it open and install another Seagate 320GB and a Phillips blu-ray... voila, X2 becomes an A1 :) Got my Q9000 to 2.8ghz and ran stable in prime all night. Gonna bust in the 9.4 catalysts this weekend.

i was taking my afternoon nap when he called. the number looked familiar, so i instocalled it back..

i don't remember the conversation that well, but i am pretty sure the only reason ken called me was because i asked for him to install the drivers... he said it'd take another day or two if i wanted him to install it, as he is very backed-up.. and since i am an idiot, and will probably mess it up, i told him it was fine. haha, i was expecting the 2nd anyways...

i don't know how big his shipment was, either.

so you might wanna pm him... or check your order status.
