Skipping over my question for any particular reason John? Scared that there are actually quite a few competent w90 owners that just may blow your score out of the water with a mobile cpu?

So I took my W90 completely apart. I mean down to the Mobo, and unfortunately it is the mobo that is causing the power issues. It seems that when I screw it back into the frame is when it stops working correctly. If you just leave it loose it works just fine. Odd dont you think... well anyway Im tired of waiting 30 days at a time for RMA's and paying $150.00 for shipping both ways (Iraq). Im going to ask asus to give me a new mobo.

Look around for any part on the mobo or in the case itself that could be moving and causing a short/touching the motherboard. If there is you could just tape it down or use some electrical tape to insulate the part thats making contact. Would save you a lot of time waiting for a new board.

I will take you up on the offer for sure ! Maybe we can log on to skype and you can help me go step by step through it all --
In the meantime,, it's 18-50 fps on average in Northrend for me, and frustration with low frames in raids until I get a different laptop......And that's on low to medium settings on max resolution. Poo, I say.. just poo.

Thank you to everyone for advice, help, and understanding while I've been on this $2300 emotional rollercoaster ride.

A little O/T.. but I just thought I'd share that I've ordered parts for my new Core i7 desktop PC build :D

    CPU = INTEL BOX CORE I7 EXTREME 965 3.2GHZ 8M 6.4GT/S S1366

    MOBO = ASUS P6T7 WS SUPERCOMPUTER S.1366 INT X58/ICH10R ATX NVDIA NF200

CPU COOLER = Thermalright True Black 120 (rev.A)

RAM = OCZ 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-16000 Blade Series Low Voltage Triple Channel

For everything else I'll just use the components from my current build.
Should be a blast of a system

So how's everyone doing with their new W90's ??

    Just dandy sir :D

Why not drop the 965 for a 920 and drop a few ballin gpus in there >.> or does your old rig already consist of some good gpus?

I decided to treat myself with the 965... but it was a tough choice over the 920 for sure.

I've got a GTX280 right now that I'm quite happy staying with for the time being. But a 2nd 280 or something else isn't out of the question down the line.

second gtx280 you say? which one do you have now?
i was debating getting rid of this one and getting the 295, but was waiting to see what the new ati card was going to pull off.

From the lack of posts telling us its awesome and we should have stuck it out, it seems for once in my life I made the right decision. :)

    >>>I'd also like to know if issues/glitches, and screen anomalys are still popping up for people with the 'new batch'... and if people are getting the power of both gpu's on >>>their games and benchmarks. It would also increase my confidence if I heard that WoW , TF2, fear2, fallout3 , COD4, etc were all kicking with the crossfired cards >>>both working. I've been waiting for several "All Clear" 's before I would consider buying one.

    >>>btw if/when I do order it would probably be from newegg so I wouldn't have to wait, unless there was definitely stock at another good reseller.[/QUOTE]

    Hello wwoods.
These drivers were used in the Anand's review of the W90VP-A1.
So the source is very reliable. No need for messing arround the BIOS

Since they have not been "officialy" posted by AMD/ATI they are "BETA"
But...i am contempt to say...if its good enough for Anand....its good enough for me :D

PS Sorry for late reply...no lappy...since mine is in for RMA since.....Late April... :(
PPS...if you read the review with these set of drivers the FPS in some games incremented dramatically....

Someone with Master/Slave test out those drivers. I dont think they work, i tested with master/master and just the drivers, and not the CCC they came with. I used CCC from my install guide. GPUID says only one card just like normal 9.5.

I installed them and they work fine. At first reboot, the Control center wont load, but I really dont care about that though.. One of my cards had a question mark on it, but I just simply right-clicked it and uninstalled it then let the computer scan again and it installed and properly identified it as part of the X2 setup and from there on out, 3dmark and games run like they did before. no sweat!

Yes works fine in master slave setup. I did no flashing of my cards... I just used the stock driver and installed the linked one right over the old one. I ran some games, and 3dmark and I get the same scores as I did before.. Just over 15k with the Q9000 clocked up a bit. All I had to do was delete the card with the question mark on it and clicked to scan for hardware and it reinstalled and worked fine. It then configured as 4870X2. Shows up that way in 3dmark and I'll check with any other program if you like. I know they are linked, how could I get over 15.3k 3dmark06 with one card?

Ha, I was drooling over the 965 as well, right up untill 15 minutes after I ordered it when I happened on a review of the spank'n new Extreme 975 @ 3.33GHz (D0 core) for about the same price as the 965 :(
Sure enough I looked around and it's available at Newegg and in stock.

I must be out of touch... Didn't even know Intel was releasing a new Extreme i7 processor. Ah well, it's only marginally faster anyway...

    As for my GTX280,
    I have a BFG GTX280 OC

I looked at the drivers and there is no 4870X2, only 4870 a and b. If these drivers were from Asus there would be a 4870X2 in there. Spires check your driver package in ccc. Thanks.

Also can you run Vantage and tell me your score.

The catalyst control center does not work from that driver.. It just gives me an error from boot up. I dont use it anyways, but the driver is installed and working. All tools, utils, games and benches show it. I'm trying to find a way to put in the CCC from the stock driver..

Just so you know what I did exactly..

    1) download that driver from the link above...

    2) install right over stock driver with stock cards..

    3) reboot and you will get the CCC error that it has been stopped.. for some reason it just doesnt work for me.. no biggie..

    4) check the cards in your device manager, you will see two 4870X2's in there and one with a question mark saying that it has some problem. No biggie, rightclick that card and uninstall it.. then scan for new hardware from the menu above and let it do its thing with the new driver.

    5) voila, driver installed and said everything was working.. I rebooted and it was STILL working.. so there you go.

I dont know what to do about getting CCC going, I kinda need to disable catAI when I play everquest2 as it doesnt like crossfire.. My desktop 4870X2 is the same, it doesnt like it either. It lowers my frames when enabled, but all other games run perfect. Everything shows that Cat 9.5 is installed and working in crossfire.

Vantage is almost done btw.. post screenie i guess when im done.

So Im not sure how many people were following my power issues i was having but I thought I'd let everyone know what happened. I took the entire laptop apart, all the way to removing the Mobo. I couldnt quite pin point the issue but what was happening is if I'd move the NB at all when it was in a position where it powered up it would instantly lose power and require a reset. I figured their had to be somewhere it would be shorting the board out on the case since I power up the mobo all by itself and shook it around a bit and kept steady power. So I put the whole thing back together and as I did I noticed the corner by the CPU in the back, the case was touching up against some solder. So I took a piece of notebook paper and spaced it out and put all the screws back in. It is now back to working 100% :) Odd little issue huh?

Look at your driver, lol 8.55. You arent running ati 9.6 you are using asus stock driver. You have 9.5 installed, but ccc wont open because your driver is old. Your vantage score system info says everything. So those driver just messed your system up, thats it.

My W90Vp arrived to me today, vey happy! :)

Just a small question about the screen/monitor: compared to other notebooks I owned until now, the monitor of W90Vp is not as strong as to open/close or change from one position to another. I mean the open/close mechanism is not as strong as the other laptops I owned and any vibration on the table (where notebook stays) causes the monitor following these vibrations as well (monitor vibrates easily and does not stay solid as I would expect). Is this normal with this type? Does anybody experience the same? Or do I have a defect/problem with the monitor's open/close mechanism?

Thanks in advance to for your answer/experience you share!

Lol John, we've had the pll for months now :D Can thank quad for that.

Vicious, what program did you use to overclock your gpus? I tried CCC but it seems rather fail. Upping the clocks in it didn't really seem to even up them as much as it said or at all. What was your highest stable without a vcore bump?
