Hi , welcome to the forums and congrats for your new laptop. Please don't double post though -- I deleted your identical post on the review thread.

First vantage run was just a crapshoot and im aiming much higher
Ill try to get them up tonight, but i have a house call to make in a bit.

no problem.
thanks for the effort! -

What was Mugenski's score in Vantage ? for some reason i cant see it in the link even logged into Futuremark .

EQII is such a quirky engine. Single threaded, Equally if not more CPU dependent than GPU dependent, and it didn't like SLI either on my old M-ALX with 7950GTX SLI.
Basically, load up on the best CPU and best single GPU for best performance.....because you know, 2004 is here to stay..... -

Are you saying the hinges are weak/loose and that movement causes the screen to move up/down?
Or are you saying vibrations cause the screen to jiggle and picture distortion? -
^ I think the user means the former judging by the description.

Ive been able to up my mem core since then though however the core is giving me issues and im hesitant of a vcore bump considering it peaks 84-86 underload.
What do you guys think, voltage bump safe if i can keep the temps under 90 or 95? -
For benching those temps should be fine , would i be running them everyday, nope
.
-
What did you pull on vantage quad? I remember you threw a couple scores up i think, just dont want to go clicking back for 3 years.
Edit: Also i cant find any options to disable one card in CCC. Is that bios only? -
Think my highest vantage score was 10,800ish . There should a disable crossfire option in those 9.4s i had loaded on there unless you changed drivers ? . If you disable the card in the bios you may have issues getting it working again after you do , it will show up in the device manager but your performance will remain the same as a single card or atleast it did for me till i ran my acronis backup. So just make an image prior to doing single card runs and youll be fine.
-
I had to reformat since then, i reinstalled ewreckeds drivers and am running the 9.4 catalyst but theres no option from what i can tell. Ugh i have already disabled the card >.< oh well, nothing more then just games on here and there all on my local network on my torrenting rig so no worries there. Im going to try to go re-enable the card now *crosses fingers*
-
the 9.4 for Win7 that ati released for mobility cards has the control panel you need . i dont have the link anymore but if you just install E-wreckeds drivers then install those win7 drivers it will only install the control panel of the driver for you.

hummm, seems it saved to my profile...hold on...ill unlock it.
mugenski new vantage world record.

quad...sold the gigabyte motherboard and bought the evga x58 clssified in it's place...getting reading to install it in a bit. -
Well if anyone wants to help, try GPUTool, which can be downloaded here. I was troubleshooting the program with Mugenski and we know that at least it is able to overclock the cards in crossfire since ATi overdrive doesn't seem to able to, hence the scores he got. But after the run, he was experiencing some artifacts. We want to see if other W90 owners could overclock using GPUtool with no issues.
-
what kind of artifacting?
is is system wide or only while running benchmarks or games?
running business apps or web browsers.... -
Its artifacting within the gputools render app. And whats that John, about world record?
I seem to have fixed my drivers even after disabling the card via bios. Would someone running ewreckeds drive rpack mind doing me a favour (the master/master setup) and checking in device manager what it says under driver version. Im now at 8.600.0.0 from date march 16 2009 and i think i was running 8.55 something before. just want to see. Im going to bench with this different driver now regardless but id like to know regardless.
EDIT: Looking at my orb thingy john reposted the driver version is 8.551.2.0 so im not running the same drivers but im running something that seems to be working with both cards atleast, about to run vantage to see if its improved or worsened my score -
Ok well i just ran vantage again and im at 11463 with the 8.6 'whatever drivers' but even when i submit the score its not giving me a linkable url so Im just going to screenshot it and then everyone can take my word for it or make me post the screenshot
funny part is i didnt even disable background services that runhad msn and steam and a bunch of other junk all running in the background, ha!
-
have you registered or paid for the software yet?
and yes..that is a world record as far as we all know... -
Havent registered or paid for the software yet as all my funds are getting directed at a trip im leaving for in 2 weeks. -
then that's why you cant save or keep them posted...
there was a site giving away keys if you registered in their contest...not sure if they are still doing that sort of thing.
could be some time before the 280m's catch up the the 4870's at this rate....it took almost 4 months before the true 4870's started showing what they are really capable of doing...so tack that on to them as well....you'll be up there for a bit im thinking. -
Hmm alright, well the cards i have don't even seem to be that great of overclockers like vicious cards pulling 950 mem and clear over a 600 core so i suspect well see some better scores from the 4870s when we get a voltage bump for our cpus and find someone with some lucky cards -
I urge all w90vp owners to submit a tech report here requesting a vga and bios update (mention voltage moddable if you can
)
This is likely the only way we will receive updates for this laptop, it doesn't take long to submit a report guys so please lets get the ball rolling on this -
the screen does seem flimsy, but is a big screen... i don't see any problems with it, my k27 vaio hinges were so tight it squeeked... and eventually one of the hinges cracked.. and i rarely take my laptop anywhere, and i always take good care of my things...
but on another note, it seems that 9.5 is working now...? any improvements in benchmarking? if not, i'mm not going to mess with it. ken had installed ewrecked's mod drivers, and i'm very happy with it...
also, where can i find my card temps? i checked ccc, but couldn't find anything??? is it a 3rd party program? -

Im working on 9.5 stuff right now for the new limit breaker guide.
I have a good grasp on the new flashing tools/methods, but I want to have a update to the drivers also.
I used mobility modder on the 9.5s and it does install via have disk but I have a few issues.
First my cursor is super super slow and laggy at boot, after everything loads it just goes to normal all of a sudden.
2nd the 9.5 CCC installed and it shows me with a linked adapter, no crossfire toggle option. My first Vantage run gave me a GPU score of like 6800ish so looks like only a single card is working. But I installed the 4870X2 driver, I figure I should have actually installed the 4870 driver as thats what these cards are. So running Vantage now again after changing the driver.
If I get a single gpu score again I guess I will have to install the original Asus CCC and see if that fixes it as I think the dual cards working or not has much more to do with the CCC and not the card drives.
I dont think these modified 9.5's are quite right the lag of the cursor at boot is the first thing I saw but also the fps/frame/time numbers in vantage are not there... bench runs fine, and the overlay for them is present but the numbers themselves are just not there.
Edit: Uninstalled the 9.5 CCC and @ reboot no cursor lag but both of the new 9.5 drivers were in place so it means the mobility moded 9.5's work fine it was the 9.5 control center causing the issues. I just installed the original Asus CCC and running Vantage again with the 9.5 drivers in place. I expect it to work and give me a dual card score.
I wonder why the 9.4 CCC is supposed to work but the 9.5 one did not, if anybody has the link for the 9.4 CCC that works and gives working crossfire I would appreciate it. -
Vic, what is device manager saying under driver details for you with the 9.5s or the 9.4s?
-
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
Ati Blah Blah its the official ATI stuff.
Vantage if finishing in like 30 seconds so I can say if it was the CCC or not causing the 9.5 drivers to not give me crossfire.
Edit: Nope still only single card scores, tell you something interesting though and think I possibly made a discovery.
In both cases when installing the 9.5 drivers, I tried more than one 4870X2 .inf and I tried the 4870 .inf I had to update both cards drivers separately.
However just now when placing the modified 9.4 drivers back onto the card when updating the main card it automatically installed the driver on the 2nd card at the same time.
I think this is possibly an indication that the cards are "linked" as they are supposed to and a good way to tell that its working.
Now having the modified 9.4 back on and the original CCC back vantage is running with numbers againbut its also artifacting super insane. I may need to reboot and see if it fixes it.
-
Once again my 9.5 ccc and 9.4 driver trick should work for Vista and Windows 7.
-
I tried to edit 9.5 and its a no go trust me. There is something changed in the dll's. Re-posting my guide for anyone just jumping in.
1. You must have Master\Master setup!
2. Install Windows 7
3. Install Ati mobility 9.5 driver from setup.exe and do not use the have disk way! Drivers
4. Reboot!
5. After you reboot go into CCC and you will see Crossfire is an options now. Make sure its enabled. Even though it says it enable GPUID says it not, i'll get to that later.
6. Delete the C:\ati folder.
7. In the tools you got for flashing your gpus there was a 9.4 ati driver. Run the setup so that it extracts to c:\ati. Cancel it after it extracts the files (Dont install !!!!).
8. Mod the drivers in the ati folder with E-Wrecks mod.
9. Now go into device manager and use the have disk method. Point it to the ati folder that you modded. -

I tried your guide, it wont work on 1201 build, thats why for now I am not going to do any more Win 7 work, its all beta/trial right now.
What may work for one person on one build wont work for another, and no matter what if we find a solution its going to blow up in a few months when the beta is over.
I will be deep into Win 7 when the retail version is out, but for now I want to do more with Vista.
Build 1201 has a few issues I think, it just happened to be the latest build when I went to go download 7 so thats what I used it. -
Windows automatically reinstalled the card for me as well after disabling from bios however it wasnt the correct driver as i still got single card scores.
I managed to reinstall them but now i have 8.6.00.0 drivers instead of the 8.5.55 or whatever it was before. I have no clue where these drivers came from but they seem slightly faster. -
@viciousXUSMC

Hmm I got that wallpaper from a HD Wallpapers Torrent a long time ago, that post was when I had my C90S, that was two laptops ago
Though I think I have that wallpaper still, currently I use this awesome starcraft II wallpaper as its nice and dark and looks good without making icons hard to see: http://www.starcraft2.com/images/wallpapers/wall3/wall3-1920x1200.jpg -

I just did more testing tonight.
2.7ghz ~10100 gpu
2.8ghz ~ 10300 gpu
GPU overclock score didnt move.
If I got 200 points from 100mhz that means at 3.3ghz I would get ~11300ish.
All this time I still see and find evidence of a cpu bottleneck in Vantage.
Obviously the QX9300 FSB is way different than my Q9000 yet the scores are in sync at the same clock speeds. -
Use gputool to overclock, CCC doesnt actually work haha
Sitting at over 3ghz still nets me a 10.3k until i OC with gputool.
my score is a little over 11.4k now -
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
Am I correct?
I think some people just do not know how to apply the new clocks, you dont just slide the sliders and be done, you have to "test" the clocks and hit apply & ok first.
Got a link for gputool? I'll gladly test though and see what happens, despite what I saw you could be correct, maybe the clocks are not increasing correctly or only certain clocks.
edit: nvm found link trying now, its different than the AMD tool I had before.
First Run - 615/950 11079 GPU so its working. This has to mean that the CCC Overdrive is only overclocking one part of the card or something.
So whats your max stable GPU overclock setings so far, and what are you monitoring your temps with? Only thing I know that works is the CCC and it has no log function that I know of to check what the temps are during the benchmark.
I tried a Crysis Bench and crashed with higer settings but I think it was due to 2.8ghz thats a bit unstable probably and I need to stay near 2.7ghz.
I did another vantage 640/960 and it did the whole run but at the very end when my desktop should have come up and my score, it just started to cycle through some screen tests (all red, all blue, all green, gradient, screens) I could not exit this mode and had to do a hard power down. -
-
Ok I havent had much experience with ATI cards. Seeing how user unfriendly they are compared to Nvidia makes me sad. Anyway, if you disable the A.I. from CCC that turns of crossfire? Also what is the difference between advanced and standard. Do some games run better on one or the other? I heard AA could improve performance or rather utilize crossfire better in some situations. Is this ture? I tried Crysis Warhead out last night on the M/M setup Q9000 @ 2.7Ghz and had 10-18 FPS in maxed graphics no AA or Vsync. Is there some options in crossfire that can make this run better? Also i heard that running in window mode only uses 1 GPU, true? Finally are there games that wont use the 2nd GPU at all? it seems when I run FC2 my 2nd card idles at 48 C but in 3dmark06 and Vantage my second card gets up into the high 50's low 60's. So I assume that there are some games that just dont scale. Am i right? Thank you for any info. Oh one more thing, what dose "without CCC" mean? Dose closing it out completely do something?
-
I had a hard lock like you described with the cycling of colours to, not sure what caused it exactly.
I have to monitor temps with CCC, i find that i seem to get better clocks with CCC closed however. My best run right now is only 560/915 or so. 565 artifacts and is no good. Not sure if i have bum card or what but even after disabling one card i still cant get above 560.
I used the render tool to find my hopefully max temps as im in the same predicament as you, no tool to log temps to file. -

i just started playing bioshock.. it is a great game, but i am a bit confused... at certain parts of the game, the screen slightly flickers, and i can see thick shadow scanlines... but then i look into a different part of the screen (e.g. not into the fog) and the graphics appear normal..
i was just wondering, is this apart of the game? or is it my video cards...? it is hard to tell with bioshock, because of all the flickering electricity... and this is my first actual play through bioshock, so i don't know what is normal and what is not...
could someone explain what problems they were having with screen flickering?? is it predominant? i've read some reviews online saying their screen was flickering at ALL times... but my screen is pretty much normal for everything, and i just don't know with bioshock... i know this is a bad example, but in roller coaster tycoon 3, i don't see any flickering at all... my gf has logged over 6+ hours on that game, and she hasn't seen anything either...
edit: oh yeah, GTA SA has no screen flicker problems, either.. -
I got the same thing your describing with flickering lines in the start of the game. It was much like the graphics glitches i was getting in TF2. It goes away after a while for me if i keep playing
-
i'm pretty positive that it isn't the cards, mostly because every other game i have played, plays seemlessly.. granted they were older games, but that is why i am asking...
RTC3, Diablo2, GTA SA, Fable, and a few other games work perfect... so i was assuming (hoping) that it was the game..
also, the download speeds on this lappy is amazing... before my dl was capped around 300kb/s, but now i'm getting speeds up to 2mb/s...
