I doubt it, they will cut something else to make it slower as GTS is below GTX in nvidias lineup.

    Cpu 2.8ghz (Q9000)

    GPU's 620/960

    Thats my max.

I just tried to flash bios onto the cards with a higher voltage to see if I could raise the bar, but the cards dont like the higher voltage and actually artifact sooner.

So just flashed back to my regular modified overclock bios.

Atleast I confirmed 100% that the new flash type uses the same bios as the older cards. I have the exact same master bios on both cards even though they use different flash types.

So now I can write the new limit breaker guide. Ken made us the nice cd .iso and I will upload the files and instructions on how to do it with a usb flash drive.

I just wish we could find somebody to help with the 9.6 drivers. Then it would be a very worthy update to the old limit breaker guide.

I may be able to get it on my own, but I really dont have the time on my hands to sit down and stare at those .inf files all day.

Looks like the only hope I have for a higher Vantage score now is to overclock the cards seperate and see if one of the goes higher, you do not have to run both cards at the same speed, though its usually best.

I could also remove some ram and see if I can get a higher cpu OC as if one of my ram sticks is holding me back, but both are a bit extreme so I am gonna sit with it where it is at.

I'll stick to 615/950 clocks on the cards for my 24/7 settings and 2.7ghz for the cpu.

Is anyone using ATI tray tools? I heard that by using it you can set your comp to pre render frames kinda like NVIDIA control panel. Has anyone tried this?

Question, but some background first... I now have two fully functional, pristine w90s X2s in my possession. While I do enjoy lining them up and pretending to be fighting the Matrix, I'm going to sell my original w90 to a friend (at a best-friend price). The problem is all of my games, data etc. is sitting on a RAID 0 array (I added another 320gb) on the w90 I'm selling.

Can I swap the 2x 320gb HD array and the single 320gb in the laptops and have it be all roses? e.g. will the HDs still boot ok with their current data once swaped?

Your going to need to make sure you enable raid through the bios before ever trying to put the raid on, otherwise it will be destroyed. I have never tried it so I cannot guarantee but I dont think you would have any issues.

Wow, this thread is still going strong. :p

Anyways... A few friends and I are going on a roadtrip to Minnesota tonight (it will be something like an 18 hour drive sitting in the back of a van) and I was wondering what I could do about a car adapter for my monster W90. Anything that I would be able to pick up at a Radio Shack/ Best Buy or somesuchplace that would power this beast (or at least trickle charge it so I can use it an hour at a time :p )?

Would love to be able to watch BluRays and play real games on the way there (have the PSP charging just in case >.< ).

There are plenty of power inverters out there for under 30 bucks that do 150 watts no problem. So as long as your power supply isnt drawing more than 150 you'll be fine with one of those. And Radio Shack or BestBuy should have them. Id go to Walmart or Kmart though, you could probably get one for under 20 there.

I'd be careful with plugging this beast into any car adapter for an extended period. A standard alternator will put out around 500W usable. Other systems in the car (panels, AC, Stereo etc.) can draw around 200W leaving you with 300W. At load, I think the W90 PSU draws around 250W cutting it pretty close. It would probably work, but you're running the risk of stalling, or worse, blowing your alternator/frying your wiring.

Hey Infiniteone, your post about the hard-drive Raid 0 thing got my attention. I have a second hard-drive I haven't installed yet in my W90 and don't want to screw anything up. Can you please let me know how to install it safely, when do I enable raid 0 and how, etc? Thanks.

Hey Harmattan, congrats on your awesome buy. That's great.

The 615/950 I used was clost, I used the AMD tool to run furmark and it tested for errors at regular intervals.

My core got its first error at 640 and my memory got its first error at 975, so 630/960 seems like a good bench setting.

Furmark puts the cards at a 100% load too, also I did alt+enter to fullscreen the test. In my experience any test that is windowed will ONLY load the primary card, but if its full screen it will load both cards. Same for games too I think.

Now that I know my OC settings I can make myself a custom bios so my cards are always at those clocks with no need to use that OC tool.

Hey guys, I downloaded and installed the new Realtek 2.26 driver here.

The volume increased and the quality of sound is much better than the stock drivers. The installation was simple (site 2 was fastest download for me) Just run setup which will uninstall the current driver, reboot, run setup again to install the driver and reboot once more.

    Enjoy!

This is precisely what I did on my X2: I bought an additional Seagate Momentus 7200.3 320GB and RAID 0'ed it with the existing HD. I think you can use any 320gb, but to be safe, I chose the same model that was included.

    It's pretty simple.

    1. Unscrew the two screws that hold the HD cover in place and slide off the cover.
    2. Slide out the HD bay.
    3. Insert the additional HD into the bay (mine slid in perfectly)
NOTE: Make sure to screw the new HD into the bay, otherwise it will get pushed out of place and not make the SATA connection
    4. Slide the HD bay back in place making sure both HDs are connecting (you should be able to feel them connect)
    5. Replace the plastic HD case cover.

    1. Boot up
    2. After the Asus splash screen, hit CTRL+F7 at the boot screen and follow the instructions to set up your RAID array
    3. Save and exit
    4. Hit F2 at the Asus splash screen and enter into BIOS (press F2)
    5. Change your storage configuration to RAID
    6. Insert your Asus OS recover disk
    7. Save and exit BIOS
    8. Windows recover will start and you will be able to select your new 640gb array to install Windows.

Sorry about my silly question, I am an overclocking novice :) Is there a utility that I need to use to overclock the video card and the processor. I know there is a utility that came with a laptop where you can press one button and it overclocks the CPU but maybe there is something more transparent. There is also an ability to overclock through ATI panel but it seems to not work for me when I try to autoset the highest frequencies.

Once again sorry for the noob question.

Found a 150W inverter that plugs into an accessory outlet (cig lighter), do you guys think that will work?

Would it make a difference if I run in power saving mode or does the brick pull the same regardless of how much power the W90 needs?

Thanks Harmattan. I actually opted not to raid the drives since I have a ton of stuff already installed. Just figured out how to format the new drive (since it doesn't just show up in the computer area).

Here's my quick how to install a 2nd harddrive and format/partition it in Vista, no raid array or anything like that, just more storage (for dummies, myself included).
    1. Install new harddrive in empty bay.
    2. Reinstall harddrives in and tighten screws.
    3. Load into vista.
    4. Right click on 'computer' and click 'manage'.
    5. Click storage on the left, and then disk management which shows up below it.
    6. The new drive will show up in the list.
    7. Right click the drive then click 'initialize', I think it was.
    8. Right click the drive after initialized and then click 'new simple volume.
    9. Go through the menus to set the size of the volume and label if you want as well as directory letter.
    10. Repeat new simple volume for more partitions if you want.

I'm sure some people have done this but it was the first time for me so I hacked through it looking up forums. Hope this helps someone, just want to contribute to this great forum.

Also noticed that the brick describes itself as an AC/DC adapter, does this mean that I can get an accessory cable to replace the power cord for car use?

Either way I won't have one in time for the trip today (I assume it would be an Asus specific accessory as none of the computer shops in town were very helpful), but maybe for future trips...

You should be able to do web browsing, watching a movie is pushing it, and gaming is a definite no-go. Again, the w90 can draw up to 250w at load. In my estimation, you'd be asking to strand you and your friends in the boonies... Maybe the tow-truck that carts you to the service station will have better alternator and inverter :D

How about if I use it just for charging with the W90 off? Would that work to build a charge back up?
I think I can get an hour of BluRay watchin' in unplugged in power save mode. :p

I think we just passed the point when things get ridiculous. You're going camping and are going to be gaming? That's determination :p Awesome.

Yep, you're right 150w will work for charging. However, I don't think you'll get very good gaming performance or battery life while unplugged.

Funny you should ask about the screen. I'm not too pleased with mine, it is very sensitive to the viewing angle, blacks are gray if the screen isn't tilted far enough back. The screen has to really be fine tuned to the right angle. If it's tilted slightly forwards the screen washes out. I saw on notebookforums that somone rma'd because of the screen and got a much better one. I'm thinking about that as well. How about other experiences? My Dell Inspiron 9400 has a better screen. The viewing angles on this one remind me of a friends cheap $700 toshiba. I notice it most in games and movies.

Just wondering what everyone's screens are like actually. My screen won't seem to display a good dark black like my old Dell does. There seems to be a tremendous amount of washout from the light. When my screen is dark, it is not nearly black, only a greyish brown. I'm not very pleased with the display. Do others have better screens? If I tilt it fairly far back it helps but then the top starts to wash out as well.

Okay, just had a random graphics freeze while browsing the internet, I got a screen full of grey and black lines. My screen is pretty bad, it doesn't reproduce colours accurately due to the crazy viewing angle and amazing amount of light leakage. I've submitted and RMA as I think there is something defective with it.

Both kimdoocheol and I have that problem. I'm awaiting my RMA (Asus says they're replacing my VGA boards), kimdoocheol is about to send his off. My first laptop was RMAed for the same reason and was DOA replaced.

From what we can tell it'll only happen while using 2D graphics engine. 3D gaming won't trigger it.

Well those clocks already put you in desktop 4850 territory, which is pretty sweet. But I'm curious about the memory. Oddly enough, the 4850s in the MSi GT725 can go well over 1000mhz, even hitting 1100. I'm guessing Asus used cheaper or older GDDR3 modules compared to the MSi systems.

For those of you with screen quality issues you may try uninstalling the Asus spelendid program.

I always take it off, my screen is great. No angle issues, and good contrast & blacks.

Just very minor bleed can be seen at the right angle near the bottom on an all black screen and that is pretty normal.

    Big News!

For those of you needing to update your drivers or want all the limit breaker tools I have finished compling it all together and wrote the new guide!

    Its located HERE

Now using ATI Flash its very safe, fast, and easy to flash your gpu bios to use the 9.4 drivers.

I am uploading the actual package right now and that will take a while but the guide is ready for viewing.

Edit - Upload done, file link posted in guide.

    Hey guys

    I am from germany aand also bought a W90vp - I do have a q9900.

Yesterday I installed SetFSB and tested around - I got a stable FSB of 360 (2700 Mhz) - I tested it many hours with Prime - worked perfectly.

Today I would like to set the FSB again to the same level - PC Freezes immediately.

    HELP ME !!! :)

Yep, smaller steps. I usually bump it up one mhz, set it, then im free to crank it all the way up without it freezing
