where did it get stolen from?
if stolen for you place of residence...then you may be covered...

as posted above..renters insurance or home owners insurance will cover that.
i had a laptop stolen out of my car parked behind my garage and home owners insurance covered it.

Pretty much. There were some problems with the vid cards originally but hopefully that's been resolved with this new batch. Thanks to a few industrious folks on this board the 9.4 drivers are working under Vista. Vicious has a very nice guide made up for flashing the cards and installing the modded drvers.

My concern now is that you guys may be dissapointed.

The Sager is almost exactly the same as the M17X but a bigger chasis and screen.

The M17X is suffering lower overclocks than the W90, it has driver issues, lots of screen issues, and a plague of other things.

It just came out and by far I think it has more complaints and problems that we have accumulated for the W90 over a few months.

Im laughing at there max Q9000 OC of 2.4ghz and this is when bios that allows unlinking of the ram divider and fsb changes.

Im glad I didnt change over yet. If the 9850 is even close looks like by far the W90 was the best choice, and it was by far the cheapest one too :p

Give it time. Just like when the W90 came out you were only getting 15% overclocks and with more time and research now it's 35%, and before the GPUs wouldn't overclock when Crossfired, and now they can. So just give them time to sort everything out.

Yeah assuming I get a working W90 back someday, I plan to compare them side by side and keep the better machine. W90 just might win :)

Not sure what your talking about, I just stated some facts.

What I stated was factual information, I guess people were thinking other units would have no problems and not it ended up not being the case. Too many people said the W90 was a problem machine and then jumped ship, then they jumped into boiling water is what it looks like.

Thats simply what I wanted to state, but fact of the matter is this other ship cost more too and that just adds a lot of insult to injury.

I agree with what ichime said though, they need more time to work out the problems. My point is that those who were assuming there would be no problems were wrong. Nothing more, nothing less.

i stated many facts about the w90... that didn't stop those from getting mad about it...

I agree with what ichime said though, they need more time to work out the problems. <---- this line is why i never bash another computer maker. My point is that those who were assuming there would be no problems were wrong. Nothing more, nothing less.<-- your instigating conflict between the AW and w90 people...but to each their own.

also, for the record...the w90 is a great machine....my thing is the cards is all. if it came with 280m's..i would be all over that.
you have to do far to much tinkering with ati drivers. (just an opinion)

I have the W90Vp-A1. Why is my HD always running? I'm trying to set my system for longest bat use for a trip and want to stop the HD from using extra power. Today was the 1st time I used my A1 on bat and I put in a BluRay movie and it shut down after only 45 mins. And it also siad "power saving mode" on the top left of the screen (which I couldn't get off the screen). Any idea's about the HD running all the time? I turned off the Vista file indexing as well, but HD light still flickers.

    Bri...

Here the guide for Windows 7.

    1. You must have Master\Master setup!
    2. Install Windows 7
    3. Install Ati mobility 9.5 driver from setup.exe and do not use the have disk way! Drivers
    4. Reboot!
    5. After you reboot go into CCC and you will see Crossfire is an options now. Make sure its enabled. Even though it says it enable GPUID says it not, i'll get to that later.
    6. Delete the C:\ati folder.
    7. In the tools you got for flashing your gpus there was a 9.4 ati driver. Run the setup so that it extracts to c:\ati. Cancel it after it extracts the files (Dont install !!!!).
    8. Mod the drivers in the ati folder with E-Wrecks mod.
    9. Now go into device manager and use the have disk method. Point it to the ati folder that you modded.

I don't really even understand what the big deal is with the drivers to be honest... We have 9.4 going thansks to Vicious, I can play every single game out there perfectly smooth.. Who cares if we dont get a driver every single month, I'm sure we will get drivers here and there and eventually have a way to mod the desktop ones just as easily as we have in the past.. I love this machine, it is crazy powerfull and cheaper than the others.. Once ATI gets going on a regular basis we should be gtg. If not, I'll sell it off one day or move on to another machine a year or so from now.. Till then, I'm golden! :D

    Hello Vic,
I'm using the 7.1 release and at first it was very hard to get the drivers running, and the CCC shows the CROSSFIRE option in windows seven, not in vista.
I had to try different drivers but im currently on 9.6 windows seven CCC with 9.4 mod drivers and it works really fine, you saw my 16710 score on 3dmarks...
If i use the 9.6 drivers then GPU-Z says crossfire disabled eventho it says on in CCC. Like i said the only trouble is that from time to time i get a black screen and need to hard reboot...
I use the second INF. file in the mod 9.4 drivers and then the first 4870x2M...

My main concern is people being fooled by the CCC or GPU saying they have crossfire working but if you actually test it by running 3dmark09 vantage you will see your score is only one card.

So you need to have a method to actually test the results to confirm you were successful.

Use the SetFSB in the Limit Breaker package, easy peasy. You should be able to hit 2600 easy -- my two w90vp-x2s hit 2718 and 2848 stable. Any higher than that, Bluescreen.

Vicious with build 7100 my guide works fine, im using it every day. No problems. I just install 9.6 CCC over 9.5 and that works fine too.

doopeworld try installing 9.6 ccc over 9.5. Make sure you do custom and make sure drivers are not checked. Should fix your problem.

There's fairly long history of Vista and the hard drive. Google vista and hard drive activity and you'll see more than you need.

45 mins on the battery sounds fairly realistic for battery life of this. This "notebook" is built on performance first and portability last.

Amazing, Now, the thing is: I have an old game that I really like: Joint Ops, th game thing that my CPU is very slow and lock the settings on LOW :( Soi, i'm seriously thinging in overclocking the cpu a bit, would someone please appoint the the guide page? which set fsb to download etc? thank you very much. Ohh by the way, The scree, is useless out doors! horrible, the touch pad is the worst I've ever tryied on a laptop , but that's not such a big problem. I aim't moving this tank from the room anyway..

I have come to the conclusion that laptops, and high end technology dont seem to mix well. I can buy a gateway FX for 1000 dollars now use it for 1 year and buy a new fx for another 1000 which in a year will probably out do the current W90, while still saving some money in the end. This was my fist venture into the high end laptop market and I think it will be my last as well. It just dosent make sense from a financial stand point with how fast technology grows. Well unless you just have the money to blow on a new hign end lappy every year. And I mean money, not credit. I hate credit, it is a hole designed to only get deeper and never let you out. Well anyway, Im trying to sell this thing now and happily game on my fx until I get back to the states and build a desktop that will blow this thing away.

Infiniteone i understand you to a point, it can be frustrating when one has issues with something this expensive. I also came from a Gateway FX with T9500 on it and it was amazing at games but have in mind that you now have a quad oc'd @ 2.7, a second 4870, an extra 2GB of memory, a desktop designed mobo, a bigger screen, a slightly higher res. camara (lol), a free bag, a free mouse, etc so just think about it :)

I just got 2.7 out of my Q9000, run 3Dmark06 and got 15000 marks. My temps are around 36 idle, 50 loaded. I'll have some artic applied on it on the weekend to see some improvement.
After 30 min i got a BSOD so lowered it to 2.6 and it's been rock solid.

Can anyone confirm the this laptop's future?

I've been checking resellers here in Canada and they show it as either not being in stock or discontinued.

Makes me wonder as I had my sights set on this laptop.

    It is not being Discontinued!

Lot of places will show it discontinued if they have not had stock in awhile or once again asus came out with an A2 or X? model. Its Asus flagship and all the issue are video card related and not huge deal. Simple swap out. Please dont start that damn rumor again! It a new model with some issues, come on this is very complex notebook and sometimes they have problems, but Asus will take care of it. Just because a few retail places are saying that does not mean crap. They say that because of other stock issues.

Hey everybody, long time no post.. I just thought i'd post an update to what has been going on with my w90.

I have had no white screen issues, at all.. I don't know what it was, but it is not occuring at all anymore.. However, some new issues have arised: sometimes my lappy won't wake up out of sleep mode, and one time when I was transporting my lappy to school (15 min drive), I put my lappy in the bag in sleep mode, and when I got to school I literally BURNT my hand. The w90 was so frigging hot I almost dropped it. I have no clue why either of this issues have arised, but I am still planning to send it in to ASUS... but I have had schoolwork, and got my copy of COD4 again!

Mkinasz, any updates to when they should be shipping out your W90? I think I might wait to send mine in until I get word that yours is coming back (permitting it is before July 15th)...

From what I've read around the board, it seems like SAGER and AW are having some issues. Not to sound like a jerk, but boy, am I happy I didn't invest 600-1k more for maybe a 10% performance increase (if even that).

I have a question about overclocking with the W90. What tools are you using? I am stable at 2.6ghz on the q9000 using only Setfsb and 585/915 on both GPUs using AMD GPU Tool. I am not using Turbo Gear or CCC at all. Are you all doing the same? If im using only Setfsb and AMD GPU Tool can I uninstall Turbo Gear and CCC? And one more question, my temps seem to be fine CPU = 55C under 100% load and GPU = 78C under load, will adding Arctic Silver 5 give me any real performance boost, stability or overclockability? Im just asking cause heat doesn't seem to be whats stopping me from OCing higher on my proc. My guess is the Ram is what makes me bsod at anything past 2.75ghz. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Looking forward to getting my W90 back, I RMA'd it a couple days ago, my screen was really bad, a tremendous amount of light leakage, games and movies looked really washed out. Hopefully it doesn't take too long to repair. I'll let you guys know how it works out. Everything I've read about the machine talks about the great screen so I'm guessing they changed suppliers or mine was defective.

Anyways, other than that I absolutely love the machine and would not hesitate if I had to decide all over again. As other people have mentioned, AW m17x's have not been without their share of problems, just read the forums. It's just such a good value with a tremendous amount of gpu and cpu power.

I noticed that there appears to be an IR label in the top left of the screen. Is this an IR sensor for a remote? Has anyone configured a remote to work with this and if so how?

This sounds like an issue I'm having. Sometimes my laptop won't come out of sleep, and when I go to restart it, my BIOS sometimes resets itself.

I'm learning to live with it though. ASUS won't have me as another customer after this laptop dies. This is my 3rd replacement with almost the exact same issues as the other 2. They're literally avoiding me now because I call so much trying to get them to fix this one. Finally, I just gave up.

Really sad. I held on to this laptop for so long because I literally loved how it was built and how it ran (When it was actually running and/or when ASUS didn't hold it for weeks at a time for RMA.)

And just to top off my rant (Kinda cynical at the moment, forgive! :) ), my primary GPU fan is already starting to give out. The bearing must be wearing thin because I hear a constant grinding sound now. I asked ASUS if I could just get the part and send back the other. They want me to send the entire laptop back.

    For a fan.

    Ridiculous.

You correct and your guess is exactly in line with mine.

Unfortuantly with a bios that does not allow us to change the ram:fsb divider or the ram timings not much you can do.

However pulling 2.7gh+ on a 2ghz chip is amazing, esp for the price of the Asus.

Currently the M17X owners are having issues getting to 2.4ghz on the same chip.

Thanks for the quick reply Vicious. Do you use Turbo Gear or CCC for anything? Anytime I have made changes in CCC whether it be forced vsync or overdrive it doesnt change anything in game or on benchmarks. And Setfsb seems to do a great job in replacing Turbo Gear so that shouldn't be needed. I was just wondering cause there is Turbo Gear and Turbo Gear VGA Driver or something like that on the w90 driver disc and Im not sure what the VGA one does.

Oh and thanks for your limit breaker guide. I get much better performance using master/master and the 9.4 modified drivers.

P.S. How do you check what bios your cards are using and if they are both in master?

Hey all. I will be selling my W90VP-X1 which I bought around 2 months ago from newegg. It works perfectly and has been updated and is running CCC 9.4 I am selling only because I am getting divorced and deploying (yeah a sweet combo). I am asking $1,900 shipped in the original boxes with all the original equipment, packaging, cords, CDs and backpack. This is the Intel C2D 2.8 model which overclocks to 3.2 using the pre-installed asus program. All interested parties let me know via PM.

I've had the bios reset once after not coming out of sleep and had a few times where I had to reboot because it wouldn't come out of sleep. The not coming out of sleep is no biggie for me, I was used to my Inspiron 9400 doing the exact same thing on XP. I just figured it was a Windows based problem and not hardware. The BIOS part is different, and hopefully it doesn't happen again.
