A little late, but here are some FC2 benches. Resolution at 1920x1080, DX10 , 2x AA everything Ultra/highest settings.
Run 1 avg.
Average Framerate: 38.24
Max. Framerate: 57.33
Min. Framerate: 27.48
This is on stock 8.6 drivers.
On another topic, I just sold the pristine w90vp I got open box newegg for $1850. Someone got a nice deal.
-
heh, that's basically a single card run. Catalyst 8.6 doesn't have a Crossfire profile for Far Cry 2. I reckon a driver update (maybe to 9.4) would maybe double that score or at least increase it significantly. But you already sold it, so maybe someone else could
-

if its single card scores rename the exe to a game w/ a profile and see if it goes up.

Ok guys, i have installed a new SSD on my laptop (ocz summit) and installed 12gb of ram, reinstalled windows vista and went from 5.9 in windows vista score to 5.7 score lol!!! weird.... the lowest score was from virtual memory...
Anyway, VIC, i will reinstall your mod drivers and see if i can get my score breaking the 17K on 3dmark06...
Best regards, Doope. -
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
If you want to break 17k you just need a high cpu speed, 3dmark06 = cpu mhz test
if you want a real test of drivers or gpu power 3dmark09 vantage is the one to run.
also note I just about finished my website, when the forums search is down or if you want to see my other stuff you can find it fast via the categorizes in my site now. -
AWESOME VIC, your a genius lol, let us know the addy when its up!! yes im gonna run the 3dmark06 with QX9300 at 3.15Ghz and i'll see..
Could you tell me what is the average score i should get at vantage?? to have an idea please? and also any thoughts why i lost 0.2 at windows score with twice the RAM and a SSD instead of normal HDD?
Thanks , DOOPE.
P.S: can you teach me the basics how to mod the INF. files , since i have plenty of free time i could work on it as well to give my contribution tot he forum??? -
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
stock gpu score in vantage performance is about 10400 overclocked to 615/950 I get about 11,000
this is for the gpu score, your total score will be the average of your cpu + gpu tests.
Oh link - its in my sig.
Sites called ViciousXSMC's Technology Database and the url is simply ViciousComputers.com

Vic what is the maximum speed that a QX9300 can go one a asus w90 ? (spable) dos the memory on the laptop mater ? (if you need to rise the fsb i think it will mater)... bguards m8's
-
I know you are working on your english so Im just trying to help you out. Your signature says "Test it like a men" this is incorrect. It should say "Test it like a MAN". Again just trying to help.

ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
I think so far the highest was about 3.4 but most people are in the 3.2ghz range. Not too many QX9300 owners for the W90.
Unless your looking for absolute max performance or just want to spend a lot I would use the stock Q9000 and OC to ~2.7ghz -
@ Infiniteone : thanks m8
@ Vicious : 3.4 ? that is really high.. i think the maximum in alienware until now is 3.33.... but i still dont know the way kinc hit 20.000 3dmark 2006... how did he make that score, cpu OC? ok its posible but how mutch oc did he make to get that score ? how did he do it , i still dont understand -
Hi Vic,
Well i tried vantage for first time and with everything stock (gpu and cpu), i get only 10048 points!!!! I was so upset, since i changed my RAM and HD to SSD my laptop is acting weird anyway...
Will try it again later with CPU at 3.1GHZ and GPU at 620/960... -
Nice web site Vicious. You got some skills!
-
Sorry, didn't read the whole thread but I'm guessing only a small portion of you are suffering from issues related to 2d applications? Or does everyone who own the notebook suffering from such issues?
The W90 is good deal and I'm seriously considering it once the issues have been ironed out.
Can I also ask the reseller to test the notebook prior to shipping it out to me?
Lastly, I read that resellers test their machines prior to shipping. I'm wondering why they would ship notebooks with such issues? -
Hey dissembled59, I went ahead and purchased a W90 a couple weeks ago despite the list of problems on the forums. I received it a week ago Monday, used it for a couple of days, absolutely loved how powerful it was, nice big screen as well. It was a recent build as well.
Anyways, after having it and using it for a week I RMA'd it because I had the following issues;
1. The screen on it was absolutely awful. Blacks were displayed as greys, when you tilted the screen back to try to help it, the middle of the screen looked really good, the top started to wash out and the bottom still had a ridiculous amount of light bleed. I talked to the tech centre today and they told me they were replacing the screen and it should be sending back out today. Hopefully I get a decent screen as the reviews and users talk about how nice of a screen it has.
2. I've had a couple of 2d glitches;
a) I had it freeze one time while surfing the internet, it displayed a bunch of black and gray vertical bars.
b) While watching a movie on one half of the screen and doing some multi-tasking I had some glitchy looking vertical lines appear and then go away.
Looking forward to getting it back though. I'll be happy with it if my new screen is better. Regarding the 2d issues, there are workarounds as I think Vic discussed in the past using winamp and some display mode to keep the cards in 3d, I might try that if I have any other issues.
As far as gaming and multi-tasking are concerned, the system performs great. The 6 gigs of ram really help Vista to run well too.
The lack of drivers are annoying however as you will notice Vic, and Ken from Gentech, as well as others have really done an awesome job modifying drivers, vidcard stuff, etc.
I did a lot of research looking at different systems and basically the W90 was and is such a good value that to me it's worth trying to sort through some issues as even the more expensive AW units and Sagers don't seem to be perfect either. A fairly similar equipped AW would run me about $1,000 more and only have a 17" screen. Just my $0.02. -
Thanks for that RPM MX. I think I'll wait and see if Asus will solve the 2d issues in the future. Cheaper than other gaming rigs yes, but $2500+ is still a lot of money.
-
Ive had an Asus W90VP-X2 from newegg and have had absolutely no problems whatsoever with it. I overclock the crap out of it daily when I play eq2 or surf and it runs flawlessly. I wiped the drive and installed a fresh copy of Vista64 though. I do not use the all that ASus software that came with it.
-
I have not had any problems with my W90 graphically or otherwise. I still did master/master gpu bios flash and installed modded 9.4 drivers and I have no problems now nor did I before. My W90 was manufactured in May so either I got lucky or they are getting the machines kinks worked out.
I believe if you order from gentechpc there is a free option where they test it before sending it to you. Even if they dont have the option listed Im sure you can ask. I hear their customer service is top notch and their prices are hard to beat too. -

I just applied arctic silver 5 to my cpu and gpus and I was wondering does removing the cpu heatsink really void your warranty? Is it something asus enforces? Does anyone have any first hand experience with this? Thanks.
Soup -
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
Yes it voids your warranty, however they seem to be very lax on it. If you had to send it back under warranty and you told them you replaced the TIM on your CPU and you knew what you were doing they probably wont give you any grief.
But just for liability I cant say they will accept it, as they do have the right to say you invalidated your warranty. -
Yeah, i hope they dont worry about it incase something does happen. Its not like I swapped out the cpu or anything. Ohh well i guess if I need to send it in for some reason I can just take a blow dryer and some tweezers to the the one on the battery and put it where cpu one was
-
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
I change the TIM on my cpu without breaking the sticker when I took it off, but my hands were so worn out from squeezing the ICD24 tube that they were fatigued and I broke the sticker accidentally with my screwdriver when putting it back on... lol
As for the one on the battery, if they were really going to check the stickers at all I am sure they will check for that one too. -
Yeah I guess they would but I dunno if they'd give as much fuss about the one on the battery vs the one on the proc but who knows really. Thats the thing with asus, they seem to be pretty cool about most things.
Oh what was your MOS in the Marines if you dont mind me askin.

Got like a 140 on my asvab, I could get any job I wanted but the 2844 was including a bonus and the training is so long/hard you get college credit for it.
The bad thing is the training is in 29 Palms and you have to sign up for an extra year on your enlistment to make up for the long school time. -
Yeah I was a 0352 TOW gunner. I got near perfect on my asvab as well but for some reason I wanted to be infantry
It wasn't that bad though besides being stationed in 29 palms which sucked to say the least
-
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
Yep I was in 29 palms for a long long time.
I kinda miss it though, on liberty I would always head out to Phoenix or something and have a good time.
Did lake havisu one year too when it was college spring break time, that was interesting. -
Yeah Arizona is a fun place. When I got out I moved to Tucson for school and lived in Pheonix for awhile too.
-
29 Palms is quite the place. All the trg there is centered on Afghanistan now and the setup there is pretty impressive.

I am still trying to iron out some issues with my W90. Im having a slight stutter in a couple of games when crossfire is enabled, regardless of graphics settings. The stutter is like a random pause every 5-10 seconds that hangs for about half a second. The main game I am experiencing this in is Burnout Paradise. Has anyone experienced this with any games?
I have tried making custom bios with all clocks set the same. I know its not a memory issue since it happens at low settings as well. Ive tried diabling powerplay. Ive tried pre rendering frames with ATT. It seems odd to me and want to confirm if its just a crossfire incompatability with this game or if Ive got bum cards. -
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
Since that studder is a known issue with crossfire and sli in some games I dont think your cards are bad, just that you happen to like one of the games it is an issue with.
If you find you have that issue in a game that other owners has running fine, then I would be concerned.
The only game I have played on my W90 so far other than benchmarking is TF2, and it runs fine for me. -
Hi vic, i just had a convo witj ken from gentech and he gave me some clues..
First of all, with you have 10+ G of ram then your vista score drops to 5.7-5.6 for some unknown reason and second if you turn the TURBOGEAR ON in the bios then ASUS made a step in the bios to run your memory at 667Mhz instead of 800 like it should...
And to finish i have read OCZ made SO-DIMM 1066Mhz DDR3 available for the W90....PC-8500 running 6-6-6-16 and 1.6v.... in case you wanna look it up???? ( 2Gb stick)...
http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/memory/ocz_pc3_8500_ddr3_intel_extreme_edition_sodimm -
hey guys - just have seen that ATI has neew Mobility Drivers for 4000series for Windows 7 - Version 9.6
Anyone tried them with Win7 - do they work or is second card disabled again? -
They dont work with the 4870x2. Tried when they came out.
-
I received my W90 today back from service. There's hope for anyone with a sub-par screen! I RMA shipped it in on Monday due to a bad screen and 2d issues. They replaced the graphics cards and the screen. This screen is absolutely beautiful now!!!!!! Blacks are very black, very minimal light bleed if any. The screen difference is night and day basically. Before the screen would not show blacks, everything was somewhat washed out grey, etc. This new screen is 100 times better.
Well, gotta load up all my personal settings again now since I got rid of that stuff when I sent it in.
FYI, if anyone wants to check what screen they have, do the following;
Control Panel
System
Device Manager
Right click generic pnp monitor under 'monitors'
Details tab
on the drop down menu click 'hardware id'
read below the monitor id.
FYI, mine is great, it is a 'SEC304A' Samsung Electronics Corp. It's a nicer screen than my previous favourite Sharp on my Dell Inspiron.
I did not check the old screen to see if its a different mfr., I wish I would have out of interest. -
Wow, I didn't know they could put different pieces on different units of the same model!!! Mine says : MONITOR/CMO1804
This is my very first gloss screen, it is completely unusefull outdoors for me. I will never get anything gloss again. -
Well guys Ive officially sold my W90. Got tired of driver issues and crossfire. Its been fun and Good luck on getting the 9.6 working.
-
Gloss Screens imo
I like gloss screens usually, though I own both types. I dislike using either type laptop screen in direct sunlight. I also hate fluorescent tube / office /warehouse lights in general, even when reading things on paper. Anyway if I can't find a tree, awning, umbrella , or other shade at a table for my *D*TR I prob wouldn't want to be using such a large, power hungry machine in that location outside.
Anti-glare vs. gloss.. tradeoff.
Glare type screens can give a sense of deeper/richer color and blacks via the glass effect. Some anti-glare screens are quite decent but others are grainy, and many appear grainy or textured unless there is direct light hitting them. These types are in a way opposite the glare-type screens ... the screen surface looks textured *unless* its being hit by direct light, while the glare screen glares *if* its hit by direct light. So it can depend on where you plan on using your screen most.
LCD flaws, tips..
Then there is the fact that LCD tech can't produce deep blacks, and if you make the blacks too dark you lose a lot of detail in shadows/blacks. An uncalibrated LCD usually can benefit alot from some tweaking of both the hardware OSD controls and the gpu driver settings. I'm not a proponent of professional calibration but settings benefit from and in most cases are in great need of being adjusted from how they are shipped from the factory.
Out of the box most LCD's are insanely over bright. Turning the brightness and/or blacklight down can minimize and often make negligible the extreme brightness bleeding over the edges, unless it is a severe backlight bleed flaw from a factory defect.
I'm coming from nvidia cards lately so I'm not sure what the settings are on ati cards currently. However, I find that adjusting the OSD controls first, and then later changing your video playback color(incl brightness, contrast etc) settings separately from your desktop color(+ brightness and contrast) settings works out nicely on nvidia cards. Thus your desktop color/cont/bright for reading web pages, documents, chat, etc can differ greatly from the color/contr./brightness you want to see on a movie.
Screen Lotteries
What I suggested can improve the appearance of a screen a lot, but it won't make an inferior screen as good as a superior one. Its really unfair that you can't chose your screen model on a notebook. There is a lot of b.s. they get away with notebooks, especially high end very expensive notebooks... like the most notable b.s. one in this thread... the lack of driver updates like desktop cards. -
Can someone please give me a quick explanation of how to OC the quadcore chip using setFSB2.2.123.90? What should or shouldn't I do to ramp up the chip?
I've been using my computer for a few hours now after getting it back from the RMA, the screen is great, I have not had any 2d issues either with weird horizontal glitchy lines or anything. So far so good! -
First disable Turbo Gear if you have it enabled. If you have the q9000 open Setfsb and select the PLL Code ICS9LPRS929AKLF. Then hit Get Fsb. Move the slider just a little bit to the right and hit SetFsb and it should set it higher. Do that a couple times in small increments to start (only a 10 clicks or so) then you should probably be able to go up to at least 2599 ghz stable (it shows you your ghz in the bottom right corner after you hit SetFsb). This is what I run at and Ive found it to be rock solid. I can go up to about 2.75 ghz but I prefer to leave it at 2.6 ghz. After you set it you can close Setfsb and your computer will stay at that speed. I recommend running wprime (long test) after you have it set and see if you pass the test without any errors and thats about it. Your computer will stay at that speed until you shut it off. You just have to run Setfsb when you turn it back on but remember to do the small increments first. I know if I turn it on and set it straight to 2.6 ghz it will freeze instantly but if I do a couple small increments first it will go there just fine. Hope that helps.

Hey Soup, thanks, that's a huge help. Just a couple more questions. To disable turbogear do I just uninstall it as a program? Also, do I have to manually run setfsb every single time I turn the computer on otherwise it defaults back to 2.0 ghz? Does setfsb save my setting or do I have to work my way up every time I turn the computer on? Thanks.
-
You can either uninstall turbo gear and turbo gear vga thing or you can use a program like ccleaner (which in my opinion everyone should have anyway) and disable turbo gear and turbo gear vga from ever starting up when you turn on windows then you still have them installed if you need them again for some reason all you have to do is re enable them and restart your comp. And yes you have to run setfsb every time you turn on your computer which is a good thing! That way if you set it to an unstable clock and you are unable to change it back you just have to power down your comp and you are back to default. I believe it will save your clock settings if you just do restart not a full shut down. As for working your way back up it only takes a few seconds. I usually just go from 2 ghz to 2.1 and hit set fsb then from 2.1 to 2.2 then hit set fsb and then 2.2 to 2.6. The hole process takes about 30 seconds and my computer stays on 2 days at a time so its no hassle really. Hope that answered your questions.
-
Thanks Soup, that was a huge help, I appreciate you explaining it out in detail.

Not a problem sir. Hey has anyone played ArmA II on their w90 yet?
-
W90 gone 3 weeks, online status still says Repairing()
RPM_MX which repair center did you send to? -
Ohhh, I got it. Thank you very much for the info. How is it better then turbo gear? Whe I set turbo gear for 15% I can play all my super HD videos. Do you know howmuch does turbo gear OC my CPU and where I can check its current speed? I tryied DXDIAG but it doesn't show anything.

That's really good news, i do look forward to those DDR3 memories, and a SSD drive. My PC came showing 4 stupid partition instead of 2. I'm trying to merge the hard drive where windows is with the other 139GB partition without errazing everything. don't know if its possible, and I don't feels like buying magic partition. Did you noticed performance increase with SSD ? thanks.
-
Well actually for me the difference comes when you open an application, it just starts right away, windows boots up way faster as well, actually its faster in everyway!!!!!! i did hesitate between the ocz vertex, intel x-25, but i went for the ocz summit because it has 128Mo instead of 64Mo... Anyway im truly happy with it, just wondering if 6Gb of DDR3 would be better than my 12GB DDR2???
-
Hey mkinasz, I'm located in Ontario, Canada, I sent the unit into Markham, Ontario, which is about 1.5 hours from where I live. They picked it up on Monday, repaired it on Thursday (I called the repair centre direct to check on repair status since they sent me a shipping box and had their direct # on it), and I received it Friday of the same week. Sorry to hear about your difficulties, where did you send yours to? Good luck with it. The model I have is the X2 from newegg, Core 2 Quad, etc.
I read my repair slip and it said;
Replaced Parts: MA4870/HTDI/512M/A(B493P) (M)
Error Location: VGA Card
Notice: Replaced LCD module and vga card. Unit tested ok.
I'm very pleased with the great service, friendly tech support, quick turnaround, they fixed my computer and it's working great now. It was a bad experience to start out with since I started with a bad screen and 2d glitches however I'm now very pleased as they fixed it without any issues quickly. -
Hey martins2012, basically turbogear bumps up the speed up to 15% (of the original 2.0ghz). Therefore it only goes up to 2.3ghz (2.0 x 15%), whereas the chip can be pushed to 2.6 quite safely as you can see others have done on the forum. benjaminsoup laid it out quite nicely how you can do this if you want more performance.
